Hmm
LittleMissNorty · 08/02/2008 17:22

Poor DS Fairy - just been looking at your pics - lovely! He is growing so fast ....we've got to take the bassinet out of the travel cot / playpen as DD pulls herself up against the side. Sods law says the first time she stands it would be in there and topples out

DD hasn't had any solids since lunchtime....but think I'll leave it now until tomorrow. She's had a lot of fluid / milk this afternoon and will get a bottle at 7pm.

milkyJammy · 08/02/2008 18:01

for you and your poorly LOs, Fairy and Norty. Hope everything is better soon.

LardyMardyDaisy · 08/02/2008 18:14

sorry for all the pukey dcs. fingers crossed we don't getit here, although ds is complaining of bellyache and i saw his tummy spasm earlier when he was getting changed.

got a snotty letter from school this afternoon, attached to the half term attendance report. It said that DS had an attendance of less than 85% and although they had written to me previously things hadn't improved. The accompanying report noted that it was all authorised absence, for when we were off up to Scotland visiting mum and for her funeral.

I assumed that authorised absence didn't really count as absence , but more to the point, he was off due to bereavement, which they knew about. I've certainly never seen any previous letter either, but they will definately be getting a letter from me

Went to M&S Food this afternoon for some treats for me and the DCs and came home so frazzled....I've never seen it so busy, four and five deep at the checkouts, and it's only a little store. then on the way home I got caught on the nastiest roundabout in Leeds, where in the evening rush, the through traffic thinks it has a god given right to ignore the fecking highway code. I was on the roundabout, indicating to come off at the next exit, and this guy just edged his way out in front of me. Steam was coming out of my ears, as well as a few choice expletives out of my less than delicate gob

ooooh, sorry for the rant. That was over an hour ago and I'm still not calm

oops, DD was very quiet in her usual place under the desk (she's like a puppy, LOL), then started to whinge. I looked down and she had dropped a wine gum that she had found on the floor. It must have fallen earlier

She is now not very happy that I've taken it away, but she is enjoying clenching and opening her sticky mitts

hi mhc, nice to have you back wiht us

I always think the microlites look like a tight squeeze, especially for an older toddler.

Sorry for the poorly DCs - luckily we have had no pukiness despite loads of it around - just loads of snotty colds...

LOL Daisy - that should keep her occupied for at least 10 minutes. DS had his first rice cake today and was most perturbed when I tried to feed him. Sorry about the letter Daisy, sounds like a very insensitive oversight on the part of the school.

Hi mhc. Lentils are good - DCs love them!

Izzybel · 08/02/2008 19:14

Hi good evening! DP has taken DD to her Nanna's, so it's lovely and quiet here at the moment, although they should be back soon.
Sorry for all of you with ill los. Fairyfay and LMN, hope they get better soon.
Fury, what a relief that your DS is a little better, bless him. I bet that was so scary. Poor little thing.
Hope everyone else is ok.
Daisy, your DD sounds so cute with her lost winegum. DP was giving me a Revel the other day, DD thought it was for her, reached for it and started crying when I took it. for you re that school letter, they must not have remembered why he was absent otherwise, surely they wouldn't have been so insensitive. sorry to hear about your mum.

DD is a bit snotty today so hopefully she isn't starting with another cold! She's becoming a bit more of a madam each day. The other day she climbed out of her rocker chair and I only just caught her before she ended up on the floor!
Ugh, I'm making cottage pie for DP's tea so should have started peeling spuds ages ago but I cannot be arsed! I've got a banging headache, not that being on the computer makes it better .

FairyFay · 08/02/2008 19:29

teehee at the winegum daisy. They really are developing little personalities aren't they? DS has a right strop if he doesn't get the toy he wants and threw a huge wobbler earlier in the week when DD wouldn't share her flapjack with him. Something tells me theirs is not going to be an always harmonius relationship.

Sorry to hear you're still poorly MHC, it does sound as if you've had more than your fair share, but well done on solo picnics.

That's really insensitive Daisy - how dare they send you such a letter, it;s not as if you took him out of school, unauthorised, for a 2 week jolly to Benidorm!

andiemustlosehalfastonemore · 08/02/2008 19:33

hi everyone ds2 in bed ds1 on wii with dh

norty what a nightmare hope she feels better soon

fairy same for your ds

mhc we love lentils in this house too although the nappies are a bit

annobal have you stopped selling yet? if fury doesn't want the tripp trapp I'm interested

foxy to answer finally re calpol there is a body of evidence that suggests fever in children is overtreated as it is the body's way of fighting the infection so if you give calpol etc and lower the temp then does the infection last longer. There was a paper about it a little while ago which showed that children given regular paracetamol had symptoms for longer than children who weren't given it so I always err on the side of caution and only give when fever above 38.5 and give the lowest dose tbh I by choice give nurofen as it has a slightly enhanced effect ie lasts longer lowers temp more but only slightly
the counter argument is that whilst the calpol/nurofen might not have a great effect it relieves the childs distress so you should give it e mail me if you want more info

i feel left out re all the pram talk I am so boring one mamas and papas big pram I had for ds1 so is now nearly 8 years old and one maclaren

andiemustlosehalfastonemore · 08/02/2008 19:34

sorry daisy meant to say how awful about the letter he is only in yr 2 ffs for you

milkyJammy · 08/02/2008 19:43

Andiem - the doc we saw last Sunday said that unless it is really high (over 40) there is no particular need to bring a temperature down. She said this country was too obsessed by temperatures. But I agree there is something to be said for easy the LO's distress by giving Calpol (and the doc did say to give it if they seemed to be in pain), particularly in the middle of the night when they're keeping the whole house awake (can you guess what we were doing at some ridiculous hour last night?)

milkyJammy · 08/02/2008 19:49

And yes Daisy, that letter was very insensitive. I'm generally rather about pulling children from school willy-nilly, whatever year they are in (and don't get DH started on the subject!) but not only was this approved it was for a bloody good reason! I am on your behalf!! If it was me I'd be having words.

LardyMardyDaisy · 08/02/2008 20:12

I think a carefully worded letter will be getting posted next week!

still, it's the holidays, so I'm trying to organise lots of fun things rather than just mooching around the house.

We are off to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park on Sunday and will probably do the coast (Ria...do you fancy meeting up?????) and Bolton Abbey through the week, with the Armouries Museum and York Railway Museum for rainy days.

OP posts:
LardyMardyDaisy · 08/02/2008 20:15

Jammy, up until things with mum he had a 100% attendance (well one day off when he split his head open in their bloody playground). I'm also a bit draconian about him going in unless he's been hospitalised!

OP posts:
annobal · 08/02/2008 20:16

Andie, that's really interesting. It's such a minefield. I tend not to give it either as I like to try a homeopathic remedy first. I did give DS3 Medised the other night as he was so stuffed up that he couldn't sleep and really needed to. He woke up much brighter.

LardyMardyDaisy · 08/02/2008 20:20

lolling at lentilly nappies.....babyboo had some raisins for her morning snack at 11 yesterday, and they revisited us at 7pm looking like sultanas...all lovely and plump and juicy looking

OP posts:
annobal · 08/02/2008 20:25

LOL Daisy - I won't be showing DS2 those...

LardyMardyDaisy · 08/02/2008 20:27

Am i being slightly neurotic in worrying that I haven't brushed her two tiny (about 2mm above her gumline) front teeth after having half a winegum?

OP posts:
milkyJammy · 08/02/2008 20:31

Sultana scones then chez Daisy this weekend?

I used to work with a woman who was always taking her DD out of school. She got a letter saying that the school was very concerned and instructing her not to take the DD out any more (she's had about 5 weeks off between Sept and Easter for family holidays in term time). She was showing me the letter but concluded the conversation with "but we saw a holiday offer last night that we can't turn down, 2 weeks in wherever, so DH is booking it today ..." Now that's the sort of person Daisy's letter should have been sent to!

LardyMardyDaisy · 08/02/2008 20:45
