Aw thanks guys for all the kind words & advice....

Just to add to my wicked, crap mothering skills, DD got a temp of 39.4 tonight and I've panicked big time. NHS direct were fab though and gave loads of advice. Temp now 37.5 and she's laying in her cot in just a nappy having had calpol...am off to bed as I'm in for a long night of worrying, taking temperatures and feeling guilty cos she obviously felt like shit....

Night all x

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 21/02/2008 22:31

aw, norty, don't beat yourself up about it. you weren't to know her temp would spike like that.

hugs to ou, and i hope she is better in the morning

I've just sorted out my nappies.

16 small including stuffables, shaped and bumhuggers

19 med/btp including shaped, bumhuggers, microfibre

plus six terry squares, 20 fleece liners, 5 microfibre and 1 hemp booster and 5 kushies ultra

plus 10 wraps of various sizes

and that doesn't include the toddler sized fuzzis and associated boosters that annobal kindly sent.

Lord I have a serious addiction

and I'm very that I can't use any of them.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 21/02/2008 22:34

Oh norty, you weren't to know she was feeling unwell. The amount of times I've gotten stressed at DD crying only to discover she has a stinking nappy, or something like that...I hope she feels better and doesn't cause you too much bother. Don't beat yourself up

Night all x

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 08:34

The clocks didn't go forward or anything did they? Coz it's 8.30 and dd is still asleep! Normally she is a 7am like clockwork girl. I must admit that I had a massive panic when I woke up and realised it was 8.20. I ran into her her room, but she is snoring away!

Funnily enough I told DH last night I was sick of waking up to crying (sometimes she wakes up just chatting but sometimes she wakes up with a cry) and he told me to put my alarm on to just before she wakes up, so I did, but I got up to go to the loo at 5am and turned it off for some reason, thank goodness I did because I've had a delicious whole extra hour in bed, till I got woken up by the bottle recycling van

milkyJammy · 22/02/2008 08:48

Norty, sorry to hear about DD being unwell. Hope her temperature is down this morning and that she - and you - are feeling much better.

Bumper - hope you're feeling refreshed after your lie in C has slept later most mornings this week. Previously I'd always been up with her at about 6, but this week it's been mostly 7, 7.30 and this morning I didn't hear her until 7.45 I'd been awake for a while by then, so would have heard if she'd been noisy before then. When I went through she was on her tummy, chatting to her bear (And I'd only had one feed to do in the night, at 5am)

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 22/02/2008 08:53

Pah daisy! That's nothing! I have a whole bin bag FULL of nappies for the NCT sale. I still have 15 Bambineos, 4 Happy Heinys, a Fluffle, a Bumble, a Little Lambs, a MEOS and a wonderful Wonderoo! Not to mention all the wraps and boosters and bzillion terry squares!

The saddest thing is I can actually remember exactly what I've got!

I'm a bit with ds actually! I tried the Wonderoo on him yesterday (it fits really well, I'm cuffed to bits) and he farking pooed in it! As I was only trying it on him I didn't put a liner in and now there is poo in my lovely new nappy . I nearly cried! Dp looked at me like I was losing the plot!

Daisy, have you got and more BTP pockets or AIOs you could sell me? I am very taken with the Wonderoo.

Glad you got some extra sleep bumper, I love it when that happens! Though it happens very rarely in this house!

LittleMissNorty · 22/02/2008 09:09

Morning....sounds like DD has turned a corner Jammy

Bumper...odd isn't it how we panic when they don't stick to their routine - I'm exactly the same....extra sleep sounds great to me

Well, I've been up most of the night....calpol was doing quite a good job keeping her temp down but she's now reached the max dose so spoke to GP (wouldn't see her ) who said neurofen and alternate the two. Don't know if I'm being very thick or very tired but can't work that one out .

I've got patients waiting for results at work as well, so I'm on the morning shift at home and DH the afternoon...

Oh well, not wearing any clothes cuts down on the washing I spose

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 09:14

Well I know as adults you can take both neurofen and paracetamol. I did for about a week after giving birth . But I'm not sure about for the LOs. I don't know that I would be very comfortable with that. Surely the sensible thing would be for your GP to check to see if there is anything wrong with her first? You can get calpol in neurofen and paracetamol forms I think.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 22/02/2008 09:18

What a wanker your dr is norty! Poor dd, hope she is ok. You can give paracetamol and ibuprofen based medicines together, I do for me when my knee plays up, but I wouldn't for a baby. I think it's a bit too much. I guess he means give a dose of one, then the next dose give the other. I can't really see what difference that would make though. Or am I being a bit thick?

LittleMissNorty · 22/02/2008 09:18

It is odd isn't it Bumper giving what seems to be huge amounts of painkillers....but I asked the question here and plenty of people do it.....I do need to keep her temperature down though.

LittleMissNorty · 22/02/2008 09:21

From what I can gather Holly, it just means that cos Calpol can only be given 4 times a day, it doesn't cover 24 hours and alternating the two does.

Yes I agree the doctor is a wanker, but there is fuck all I can do which really gets up my nose as the GP arrangements where I live are shit - all single practice places which open when they want and provide a service that suits them not the patients - even babies it would seem.

I use NHS direct and MN all the time....much more helpful!

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 22/02/2008 09:31

Oh I see!! I was being thick! Doh!

GPs are pretty shite round here too. My mum had a blood test the other day becuase the dr thought she was anaemic. She is and the dr left a prescription at the reception for her to collect. When she went to collect it the receptionist told her the dr wants to speak to her about the blood test, but can't see her for two weeks! Now my poor mum is left stewing for two weeks wondering what the hell is wrong with her! I think that is pretty bollocks.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 09:35

My surgery is the same. have to wait 2weeks for an appointment. but my actual dr is lovely and usually calls me about my blood tests. now i've moved i only stay for my lovely dr.

LittleMissNorty · 22/02/2008 09:41

and they earn well over £100K....

don't get me started

Off to cuddle my poorly DD......she's very dopey this morning

milkyJammy · 22/02/2008 09:42

Well DD just crashed out on my lap for forty minutes. Obviously a sleep in just wasn't enough for her And yes, we are hoping she's turned a corner sleep wise.

I think you're right in that the alternating nurofen & paracetamol is to allow pain relief around the clock, while one drug on its own can't be given often enough to do that.

A new food for C at breakfast this morning, she had Shreddies (well Sainsbury's own brand version) and loved them! She needs something to fuel her rolling activities. Still no closer to crawlng, but why bother when she managed to roll the full length of the play mats at baby group yesterday afternoon?

milkyJammy · 22/02/2008 09:43

Anyway, time to get ready for some stories and singing down at the local library. Back later.

foxythesnowman · 22/02/2008 10:14

Morning.

Norty, yes, you can do Calpol and nurofen - each one every 4 hours (so effectively they get a dose each 2 hours). You probably will only have to give one of each. I think Nurofen is far more effective than calpol. Calpol is just a bigger brand name. Let her sleep and keep her hydrated. Oh, and change GPs!

And lastly stop beating yourself up ! You are a fab, caring mum doing a tough job - AND going back to work makes it harder! That Guilt Button has been firmly pressed, huh? Get yourself a really, really nice bottle of wine for tonight. When your day is over, chill out and enjoy. You deserve a treat.

foxythesnowman · 22/02/2008 10:17

Holly, that's a terrible way to treat your mum. Hope she is OK. Why don't you give them a call and tell them you and she are worried and its not good enough? Or, ring every day for a cancellation. Or go and sit in the bloody waiting room until they see her. Preferably with a toddler and baby - bet they find a space in their schedules then!

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 22/02/2008 10:27

ROFL foxy! I think my mum would have done that today, but it is her bf's mum's funeral . Then she is back at work next week. It is so rubbish. My gp is brillo. I can phone at 8 in the morning and get an appt the same day, even if it's not an emergency.

I was watching the news the other day and nearly fainted when they said how much gps earn! Sure they have stressful jobs, but so do other people and they don't earn that much! I'm sure nurses and midwives work much harder than gps for about a quarter of their pay.

I am waiting for BG to come and see if my boiler can be fixed (fingers crossed). I have just spent the past 2 hours tidying so he doesn't think I'm a complete tramp! The other day when he came there was washing up piled high in the kitchen, bits all over the floor and nappies drying on every available surface!

LittleMissNorty · 22/02/2008 10:31

Hope they can mend it Holly.

I'm bloody freezing as well....but can't turn the heating on Dd has her own little internal radiator atm....The ibuprofen has bought her temp down to 38.7...

Thanks for the kind words and advice Foxy...The guilt button is a dreadful thing....and I 've got 2 patients who can't start treatment until I get my arse into work and report their tests....so am getting guilt all round today!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 10:32

Jammy did you give her them dry or with milk. DD has started having dry cereals like cheerios and shreddies, which she loves but I feel bad as they have so much sugar in them. She didn't like the "nothing added" shredded wheat quite so much

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 22/02/2008 10:38

Bumper, maybe you could add some sugar yourself to the plain cereal, then it would taste nicer, but still wouldn't be as sugary as Cheerios etc. Or add some fruit. Dd likes plain Ready Brek with raisins in. The raisins just sweeten it enough for her.

Clarabumps · 22/02/2008 10:40

can i just check how much is everyones baby eating? my ds seems to be wanting to eat the entire contents of the fridge...he's started nursery this week to as i'm back at work and he had things like baked beans for lunch..?is there somewhere that can tell you what is okay for them to eat?even just normal food instead of annabel karmel "sauteed chicken breast with steamed pumpkin puree"? not that i want my child to fall into the chicken nugget catagory but the last thing you want to do is spend an hour in the kitchen making dinner while my son falls asleep at his high chair!!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 10:52

Clara you want Fury, her DS is an eating machine! As for what they should be eating I think you just use your instinct and avoid overly processed food and honey. This website and the forums attached to it have some good recipe ideas. There was also a lovely thread recently about a mother who was asking what she should give her baby, were chicken nuggets, chips, sausages etc ok, and istead of jumping on her in usual mnet style loads of people offered her some good easy/cheap meal ideas. I will have a look for it...
