HellHathNoFury · 21/02/2008 10:57

does it not?! how very bizarre

milkyJammy · 21/02/2008 11:03

It does where my sister lives, but not here

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 21/02/2008 11:52

morning.....

easter hols here are the two weeks after the easter weekend.

It's because easter is reaaaally early this year.

tried to go to rhyme and sign this morning, couldn't find a vehicle entrance to the centre, there was no parking in the streets around it, and the presence of several derelict properties and what looked like a vandalised car where I could park kind of put me off. I was 20 mins late by that point so I just gave up.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 21/02/2008 11:59

Oh daisy, that sucks. I'm like that, if I'm late for something I get really flustered and don't bother going. Hopefully you can make it next time.

milkyJammy · 21/02/2008 12:26

Actually Daisy I think that's what my sister's got - the first day of the holiday is Good Friday and then the 2 weeks after Easter.

Just had really scary moment in the kitchen. We have a pull out larder cupboard, and sometimes it opens itself a bit, but has been OK for a while. Only yesterday I had a big order from Sainsburys (we're trying to do an online grocery shop once a month and then DH just has to pick up fresh stuff weekly), and it was obviously too much because just as I was making our lunches the cupboard launched itslef open at such a rate that it pulled its fitting out of the cupboard and fell over into the kitchen, throwing tins and packets everywhere ! The noise was shocking in itself and then when I thought that C sometimes sits and plays on the kitchen floor Thankfully she wasn't today, but if she had been I think she would have been seriously injured (or worse! ) by being squashed by this falling cupboard. I've picked up all the tins and got the cupboard upright so you can move in the kitchen again (loads of rice, pasta etc to sweep up though still) and am not a bit chaken thinking about what might have happened

milkyJammy · 21/02/2008 12:27

That should have read "now a bit shaken" rather than "not a bit chaken"

milkyJammy · 21/02/2008 13:14

Why is there never anyone around when you need them??

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 21/02/2008 13:28

bloody hell jammy are you allright?

how new is the kitchen? can you complain to the manufacturer?

LittleMissNorty · 21/02/2008 13:31

Blimey Jammy - puts your heart in your mouth.....have you told DH? Glad all is ok....

milkyJammy · 21/02/2008 13:38

Kitchen is a few years old. Prob too late to complain. Rang DH as soon as i could - was trapped in one half of kitchen for a bit until I could move cupboard. Not sure what we'll do about cupboard, but kitchen will be OK once I've swept up. But we're off out for the afternoon 1st

Sputnik · 21/02/2008 13:39

That sounds awful Jammy, hope you're feeling a bit better now.

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 21/02/2008 13:42

I'd still have a go at them jammy; that sort of thing shouldn't happen imo, no matter how old the kitchen is, and I doubt very much that you would be able to overload it with tins past the load it has been tested as safe for.

IME the actual load a thing can take is usually much, much higher than the safe woking load, if that makes sense.

have a good afternoon out and I hope you've stopped shaking now

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 21/02/2008 13:48

DD is playing quietly under the computer chair.

I've just realised she is foaming at the mouth with mud after eating some dried soil off which has come off the bottom of my shoes.......eeeeeewwwwwww, and

Case in point for not wearing shoes around the house I think.

BadZelda · 21/02/2008 13:54

Hi everyone

hope you're all well - off now for a catchup though you're two threads on since i was last around so that might take a while! Jammy just saw your message about the cupboard: how scary! No wonder you were totally freaked out...the potential consequences don't bear thinking about

I'm pretty well - been back at work six weeks and they have tempted me to become permanent...which will happen on the 1st March. I haven't had a job since 1999 so it's a bit freaky, but they'll pay enough for me to work 3 days a week whilst DH stays home and looks after the kids. I'm loving the work and he's loving not having to go to work, so all is good.

LittleMissNorty · 21/02/2008 13:55

At the risk of sounding like a terrible mother, DD is sending me fucking mad.

Why is it she crys and whinges at every given opportunity....friend turns up for lunch and she's butter wouldn't melt in my mouth gorgeous, and now she's fucking crying and whinging again.....but only for attention.

There are times when I'm glad I work, but I dodn't go part-time to wish I wasn't fucking here but at the lab.

sorry. I do love her really

BadZelda · 21/02/2008 14:07

Hey don't apologise Norty! In some ways it's almost harder when you've just got them part time as then you get triple guilt if you have any negative thoughts about them at all.

It's also a hard age as they're starting to get more mobile and want to be doing a lot more than they're capable of, so get really frustrated...Lots of playgroups have been the way forward for me. Guess it's pretty lucky that where I live there are at least 2 playgroups on every day of the week, so I never run out of places to escape to when the kids are feeling knarly.

Other things to do to amuse small babies:

  • mystery bag (puts lots of toys in a bag and let them pull them out one by one)
  • obstacle course (cover the living room floor with cushions and in between put little plates of snacks and things that they want to get hold of)
  • playdates (get a little friend or two around - then you can hang out with the mum and put the world to rights while the babies do their level best to eat each other)
Sputnik · 21/02/2008 14:16

Would you have preferred it if she cried through lunch too ?
That wasn't much help, was it? She'll get over it eventually. Have a cuddle.

LittleMissNorty · 21/02/2008 14:17

Thanks BZ - cuddle with DD and a cry and I feel a bit better....some good ideas there as well.

She didn't have a great nap after lunch either so that may have contributed - a bottle and a sleep may help (me as well as her )

How are DCs BZ? Job sounds good

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 21/02/2008 14:17

I HEART DAISY!!!

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 21/02/2008 14:18

Hey BZ, good to see you again, and good news on the job front
I was just thinking about you te other day as I tried to make sense of my nappy collection and realised I never sent you those boosters....sorry!

norty....we all get days like that, when motherhood seems like such a thankless task. This is a particularly trying time as well, as they know what they want to do but don't have the physical capabilities, or they want to get hold of something, but it's removed as it's too dangerous etc. It does get better when they start to master words and being able to express themselves better.

I like your baby bag and obstacle corse ideas BZ, I'll be trying those later; my house already looks like an assualt course from all the small child detritus, now all i need are the stategically placed snacks

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 21/02/2008 14:18

lol holly ...you like???

Sputnik · 21/02/2008 14:20

Hiya BadZ, congratulations on sorting your work out. LOL at the babies eating each other. Reminds me of this lunchtime, I was trying to feed the baby and get my own lunch ready at the same time so he was just getting randomly-spaced spoonfuls. When I finally sat down he grabbed my arm with both hands as if to stay "You stay here and feed me". It looked like he wanted to eat it.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 21/02/2008 14:24

Het BZ, long time no speak! Glad things are well and work sounds good.

Jammy, how scary! Hope you are ok. I would phone the kitchen co and give them an earfull, even if they are not oblidged to do anything it'll make you feel better!

Norty, I feel like that about 50% of the time! Don't feel bad. There is not a switch in your head that makes a baby's scream less annoying when you become a mum! It is still an awful sound and can make even the sanest person go a bit mental.

Daisy sent me a lovely aqua Wonderoo!! I'm soooo pleased! You are such a lovely lady! We shall use it tomorrow as I'm going out with some RL friends (HOORAH) and dp can't get his head round 2 parters! Thanks soooo much!

LittleMissNorty · 21/02/2008 14:45

thanks ladies

I feel better now....don't know about DD tho ....perhaps she prefers nursery....I can feel a guilt trip coming on....

BadZelda · 21/02/2008 14:47

Don't worry about the boosters Daisy - it was a hard time for you with much more important things to worry about. I picked some up online as well as some really cute wraps. Now what shall I do with the half dozen size 1 wraps that DD2's grown out of?

Kids are really good - Ella's loving pre-school, and seems to have settled in well (though getting her there for 9am and being on time to work are a bit of a challenge.) Matilda's happy as larry and just cutting her 4th(!) tooth as well as creeping around all over the place. They both seem to be coping v. well with Daddy looking after them, and he keeps the house lovely too....though he did decide to treat himself to a 600 quid camera the other day...think he's taken to the whole 'kept man' thing like a duck to water...

And bit of a leap, but I have to hire a couple of people to help me out with my new job. Don't suppose anyone knows a good information architect that's looking for work?
