I was tempted to write the subject with reference to NM .

OP posts:

bethoo sorry to hear about that

dd3 is teething like mad - everything is fair game - tonight - the hinges on the tv cabinet. We had to take the doors off as the dds were swinging on them - so I come into the lounge to see dd3 with her head in the cabinet gnawing on the metal hinge!

kittywise · 21/02/2008 12:10

Sorry to hear that bethoo, you must be so shocked

Callieco · 21/02/2008 13:25

Bethoo - big big hugs, sweetheart, I am so sorry for you. As you know, we lost our cat just last week - it's such a horrible feeling, and that must have been such a shock for him to go like that. I really hope your other dog will be ok for the foreseeable future.

Callieco · 21/02/2008 13:28

Piffle and Kitty - the paed suggested differential vision as a possible reason Jordi may turn his head. He's been examined by the hospital optician and opthalmologist and his vision is ok at the moment, although he is astigmatic in the right eye like me, but I have to take him back in six months for another check, so at least it is being monitored.

fitfox · 21/02/2008 18:48

[hugs] Bethooo

muppetisacat · 21/02/2008 21:39

oh man i'm so sorry bethoo - that's so shocking and tragic. How has your other dog coped? lots of [hugs]

staying at my mum's for a few days so haven't posted but just briefly skimmed thread.

kitty - photos I've seen of Ron make him look as far from a freak as you can get. Can you invite the HV back and put something into her tea?

good news here is that my sis had an early scan today and was told she IS 8 weeks pg and the little heart was beating away like a goodun! She is taking the aspirin daily still and will continue to do so until told otherwise - she has her referral to St Mary's soon. I am cautiously optimistic

Best of british to you Jay! Dear god you could be in labour right now for all we know!!

muppetisacat · 21/02/2008 21:46

piff - have been laughing to myself at Fin's various exploits as they sound exactly like Samuel's

emptying my knickers from their drawer and scattering them round the house for the builders to see

putting his toothbrush down the loo (promise i won't let him use it again!)

picking up the post and ripping it to bits all over the floor.

hooking a used tea bag from the bin and biting it open - eating the tea leaves and smearing them all over the floor and himself.

bethoo · 21/02/2008 22:12

muppet - tbh he is not coping well, he has been lying on the sofa all day and only got up to go for a wee. bit concerned really as he is very lonely. not the right time to get a puppy what with the house and hopefully a successful pregnancy. he just seems uninterested in everything and i have tried but no response. he slept on my bed last night bless him.

bethoo · 21/02/2008 22:34

well i am off to bed now to cry some more. draggin thor with me if he will move off the sofa.
i have added some more pics to my profile, there is even a cat in there as Hayden adores her and she is getting used to him pulling her tail. she just moves around so he cant reach it!!

Piffle · 22/02/2008 12:26

aww bethoo he sounds like such a sad pup. Bless him he must be very lonely.
Yourpics are fab. Hayden is dead cute and such a cheeky smile. Beautiful dogs. Are they boxers? DP is really keen on boxers.

bethoo · 22/02/2008 14:48

Piffle - yes they are boxers, only 7 years and 7 months so still quite young though they tend ot have max life span of 11 years if bad hearts do not take them sooner sadly. i could go on all day about what a good breed they are and how Zeus may have had issues wiht other dogs he was a great big friendly oaf who loved cuddles and hoovering what food was dropped on the floor. the way he would rest his chin on the end of the bed/sofa with his eyebrows up and his big eyes pleading!!! he usually always got his way. he still thought he was small as enjoyed sitting on laps all 5 stone of him.

Piffle · 22/02/2008 18:13

bethoo we looked at getting one a few years ago but the vet and insurance folks said they were prone to alldirts of odd ailments including depression!!! So we decided no. But when the time is rightvfor a dog again we'll most likely opt for a boxer!

bethoo · 22/02/2008 21:01

Piffle -if you do decide to get a boxer make sure the parents are heart tested and hip scored. i was so desperate to get a boxer and they were hard ot get hold of like a three month waiting list and i am impatient as it is, like ''i want one NOW''. anyway we got the pups that were results of two family pets and they had not been heart or hip tested. i have learnt the hard way sadly about what happens with unscrupulous breeding! if you have to wait then wait and get good quality. boxers are prome tp heart murmers but some are so mild they do not affect the lifespan. sadly boxers are prone ot developing heart disease and just dropping dead suddenly. so best get insured. apart from that they are great characters, known as the clown of dogs. boy that was long!

ReverseThePolarity · 22/02/2008 22:22

Sorry everyone, been very busy, work stuff, dh stuff, bf support stuff and then my Gran died too (on my Dad's side) so had to organise flowers etc as I couldn't go (dh can't drive atm, and I couldn't exactly catch a lift with my parents would have been far too awkward on an important day for my Dad iyswim) and it got me down a bit as it put me in mind of some happy memories, which were sadly few & far between when I was growing up... which made me sad... you know. So I haven't been around so much, sorry!

Oh Bethoo, I'm so sorry about Zeus. I know it is early days but will you get another dog to keep Thor company? It's hard when a pet has died - the decision whether or not to get another. You want to stay true to their memory... but at the same time, nothing heals the pain like a new pet running around... you have my sympathy.

Kitty... Bertie weighs about 17lbs. And he is very skinny. And has a huge head. He's only just in 6-9 month clothes and tbh most of his 3-6 would fit him if he wasn't in huge cloth nappies. But he's doing well... cruising and crawling around now like a mad thing. I'm sure Ronnie's weight is just fine too... and he'll be happier once his bones have healed.

Jay omg you could even be in labour now as I type! How exciting! That seems to have gone so quickly... although I bet it hasn't for you.

Everyone else, hello, sorry to keep this so brief but wee man is waking!!

bethoo · 23/02/2008 08:35

Polar - sorry about the loss of your gran.
i would love to get another puppy but i know the hassle o would get from my parents as they saw my dogs as an inconvieniece what with being a tie (just like children can be???!!!! ) but what with a possible successful pregnancy it would be too much especially walking two dogs with a double buggy! and there is house training and still at work. i will always have dogs and when Thor goes i will defo get another, but something small and fluffy for the kid(s) and then when they are older i will go back to my big mastiff breed (bar certain ones incl rotties. did anyone watch Turner and Hooch with Tom Hnaks? i walways wanted one of those, french matiff/godue de bordeaux. but so far i am trying ot get Thor meeting other dogs so he is not so bored and lonely.

Divastrop · 23/02/2008 16:09

mossy-sorry to hear about your gran.it must be difficult not being able to go to the funeral as well.

bethoo-arent small fluffy dogs usually nippy, yappy things?

hope everyone is ok.things are pretty quiet here(hope thats not famous last words).dh cottened on to the fact i was getting a bit pissed off and is being ok atm.Elsie's teeth are finally coming through, she is starting to go on all 4's and try crawling properly.dd2 is defo in line for the asbo throne.she loves Elsie and is really gentle with her,but she thinks its hilarious to wind ds2 up all the time.

bethoo · 23/02/2008 18:43

diva - usually more the terrier types like westies, jack russells, i was thinking of maybe a cavalier king charles spaniel as i had one when i was a teen.

Piffle · 23/02/2008 21:06

mossy sorry about your gran. We lost dps gran on Monday too and we were all very close. We are devastated too. Many sympathies x x x

Bethoo don't get jack russells if Thor is sensitive. They are devious horrid things we had two and they are so clever. The minute your back is turned. Bam they eat your kids your cat and your car bumper. Ridgebacks are awesome dogs.
Oh cannot wait to hear from jay!!

bethoo · 23/02/2008 21:35

Piffle - i am not a big fan of jack russels so no worries there. i like big dogs but what with another baby on the way (fingers crossed) i will stick wiht Thor and consider another dog when the babies are bigger.

Divastrop · 23/02/2008 21:40

pmsl@what JR's eat.my mum had a JR cross when i was a kid and we came home one day to find he'd eaten half the arm of the sofa(which was about 2 weeks old).

ReverseThePolarity · 24/02/2008 08:15

Piffle sorry about your dp's gran .

Bethoo / Diva - I'm not a huge fan of Jack Russells or indeed most small yappy type dogs. Then again, after two incidents with boxers I wasn't a huge fan of those either... but I have since met some adorable big bouncy boxers that have totally changed my mind. I think I was unlucky in that the first two I met had poor owners.

I love Border Collies best though. Trouble is you do need to be able to provide them with tonnes of stimulation. We used to be able to with Merlin but since Bertie came along I do sometimes feel guilty that he doesn't get the stimulation he used to. He gets lots of long walks, but not the same amount of play.

Arthur requires no more stimulation than a good daily walk and the occasional bark at the postie.

Ah Piffle Ridgebacks are gorgeous aren't they? One of my Aunties had one.

Diva I'm glad things are a bit better with you & your dh.

Well..... the peer supporter stuff is starting to feel like we're having to battle with the children's centre and with the existing peer supporter (who is RUBBISH - I'm not being bitchy, she is absolutely RUBBISH - she even left a double breast pump, loads of help sheets on breastfeeding, videos on positioning etc. and other stuff in a cupboard for the LAST FOUR YEARS gathering dust for example) who seems to want to do sweet FA and get all the credit... and the CC wants us to talk about the "benefits of breastfeeding" god help me....

Go see my thread in bf/ff if you fancy it.

evenhope · 24/02/2008 10:25

Mossy and Piffle sorry to hear about your grans

We have a jack russell x. Nasty yappy thing it is too and bites. We recently had our Ridgeback rehomed after she scratched the baby. She was DH's dog and he just didn't have time for her so we thought it was fairer to let her go to someone who did.

Callieco · 24/02/2008 13:57

Polar and Piffle, very sorry about your/DP's grandmothers.

I've found I have been thinking about my grandma (my dad's mum) lots since DS was born. I was very close to her - she died in 2000 aged 86 - and my dad was her only child, and I guess I wonder if I will be sort of paralleling her life in some ways if I don't have any more children. My dad died five years before her, and although I knew it was a terrible thing for him to die first, which she repeatedly said, I think the emotional impact is only really, really clear to me now I have Jordi. Empathy rather than sympathy I suppose. Funnily enough I dreamt about her last night, which was nice.

Divastrop · 24/02/2008 16:24

piffle-i'm sorry i somehow missed the first line of your post.sympathies to you and your dp

mossy-sounds like you have your work cut out with the peer supposrter thing.'benefits of bf' is about as useful to mothers who want to ff,as 'dangers of smoking' is to somebody who doesnt want to quit smoking(somebody kindly pointed out that smoking is bad for me on another thread, how very useful.not.)

muppetisacat · 24/02/2008 19:58

Gosh - sympathies to piff and mossy
