Heehee thought I'd start the new thread. there seemed to be a recurring theme from everyone's recent posts - hence the title.

Hope everyone's well and that you found us without too much trouble

Ginge - you are not having too much fun, what with your literally 'shitty' day and then poor edwards accident. Yes, it always happens when dh at work - i know!!

Rumpel, thanks for the link, I'll have to invest in some new fresh makeup. I dunno what colours suit me though. I usually just wear foundation (to cover spots) and mascara - I am very unadventurous.
Movicol is only for chronic constipation i think, it is a powdery stuff you put in their drink. Looks like you won't need it though. Glad about that.

Babyducky - kai eats plenty!! Owen won't touch milk (in a cup) anymore. I give him weetabix with loads of milk in and he likes yogurts too, so I don't worry about calcium.

Princess, hope it happens soon

Words - Owen has been saying cat for months but not much interested in anything else! sometimes says quack quack and roars at tigers and lions and sort of says his sisters name. Says dada but not necessarily to dada!

Dada, had a nice day yesterday driving a ferrari and a lambourgini (a 40th birthday pressie from last yr), while we stood about in the freezing wind. He enjoyed it but said by the time he'd got used to the cars his 3 laps were up and he didn't get to g0 really fast. I said he'd have to wait for his 50th for another go!

Edward doesnt seem any worse for his accident today thougu I have noticed he also grazed his nose too. Thought it was funny when I got him up this morning to find the plaster stuck to the side of his head
Got a few funny looks at Clown Town this afternoon though especialy when he kept trying to go head first down everything. Didnt learn from his accident then. Silly boy.

JingleyJen · 09/03/2008 20:54

Evening all,
please can I join you although I am an imposter (nothing to do with COD) I have 2 DS's DS2 was born at the end of September 06 but that month seems to be under represented on MN (have tried a couple of times)
I have a few worries / concerns about stuff and have no one to chat to about it as all my RL friends have older children.

Am happy for you to kick me back to active conversations just thought for want of a week (he was born on the 23rd September) I could join you??

gingeme · 09/03/2008 21:46

Hi JingleyJen yes ofcourse you can jon s though there aren't nearly as many of us as there were this time Oct 06. What seems to be troubling you ?

JingleyJen · 09/03/2008 22:29

thanks..
His weight is what is troubling me..
he was a FAT 6 month old weighing in at 21lb..
he put on a couple of pounds but then had an ear infection and then a reaction to antibiotics which caused him to have bleeding intestines (lots of nappies filled with blood!)
However.
he lost 3lb's through being poorly.
I went to have him weighed on his first birthday , first weigh in for 6 months. He weighed 20lb's. Didn't have his book with me and HV didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with the look of him.. he was walking and gibbering on didn't look skinny. I just knew if she had seen his book she would have made a fuss about the weight so in the end I was pleased not to have the book with me..

Anyway I digress.

He eats well, sleeps well, we now have 8 teeth with 4 more coming in the next couple of days. But I have weighed him at home and he now only weighs 23lb.. this is only 2lb more than a year ago.

I am trying to look at him without the books or the charts and see that he is well and happy and developing as one would expect but there is this niggling thing in my head about the lack of weight gain.

Do any of you ladies get your little ones weighed and has the weight gain tailed off since they have become mobile... Blah blah .. you know what I am trying to ask..

I guess I am just after some reassurance that he is probably ok.

Thnaks for getting this far if you are still reading!

princessllama · 09/03/2008 22:47

hi jinglyjen, you're welcome to join us. no idea what Hope weighs but i'll try her on the scales with me tomorrow and get back to you, she's in size 4 nappies. the key criteria are is he failing to thrive in any way-does he have recurrent infections? does he get v irritable for no obvious reason-apart from being a toddler? the best would be to plot his weight over a few weeks on his red book and see if he manages to stick to a centile or is he dropping down on the chart. -i'm a paediatric osteopath so that's what i'd be thinking from a work point of view. also, if his gut was that irritated by the antibiotics, it may help to give him a really good probiotic supplement for babies as all the good bacteria that absorb stuff in the gut for you may have been wiped out by the upset-solgar i know do one-not the yoghurty drinks as they don't really work, i mean the powder or capsules that need to be kept in the fridge.
my friend had a similar problem with her daughter not putting on weight and after lots of dr talk, she found out for herself that the best way to get her lo heavier was to feed her a croissant every day!

JingleyJen · 10/03/2008 08:13

Thanks for that..

he is now sticking to a centile I guess because he was up there at the top of the chart at 6 months it is a heck of a shock for him to be muddling along at the 9th..

I will have a look at the solgar powder and haven't held back if he has wanted a biscuit or third bowl of porridge.. Maybe I will break open the criossant!!

Thanks

gingeme · 10/03/2008 09:48

Morning Jingleyjen.
The last time I had Edward weighed was 28 Jan and he weighed 28lb. He doesnt eat a great deal but does finnish every meal we give him. What you have to remember is all babies are different. Same as adults. Plus the charts in the red books are base on American babies who are generaly larger than British babies anyway.
Im sure he will be fine.Did you breast feed? Breast fed children are a little smaller than formula fed too.
Try the stuff princessllama told you about and all the best.

JingleyJen · 10/03/2008 10:22

he was exclusively breastfed.
I suppose I should just re set my standards to the lower end of the centiles.. I just keep waiting for him to bounce back up and he isn't.

Aside from this little wibble, how are all your little ones getting on with talking? DS2 is getting a few words and is such a mischief.. I am enjoying him more and more as the weeks go on

gingeme · 10/03/2008 15:16

Oh yes lots of miscief going on here In fact he has just walked in with our front door mat! Good job I hoovered it yesterday. He has a taste for the tele too. I mean literaly. He loves to lick it I wipe it down every day with a wet piece of kitchen towel but it always seems to be covered in lick or finger marks. Someone suggested maybe its giving off little charges and hes enjoying them. Wouldnt suprise me .....

JingleyJen · 10/03/2008 15:21

kissing the tv seems to be the trick of the week here.. I am sure a psychologist would have a field day with that one!

He has just stopped having a morning nap so we are getting to spend more time with each other whilst DS1 is at nursery school.. probably going to sign up for a singing group on a Tuesday morning.

What activities do you do with your little ones?

gingeme · 10/03/2008 19:29

We go to playgroup Tuesday and Friday mornings plus we go out to a soft play places with all the ds's. He loves swimming too his favourite thing at the moment though is climbing which is how he cut his face on Saturday

JingleyJen · 10/03/2008 19:41

I saw your posting.. how is he doing? Did he keep the plaster on?
How many DS's have you got?

gingeme · 10/03/2008 21:30

Yeah hes doing fine thanks. He kept the plaster on but in the morning it was on the side of his head. Obviously moved in the night. Had to try to get it out of his hair. Poor little love.
I have five ds's though my two older ones are from a previous relationship. They've lived with their Dad about two years now in Scotland. I see them in the school hols. In fact their coming to stay at the beginning of April

EffiePerine · 11/03/2008 09:14

Still no news from Princessllama?

Re talking, DS says the odd word (SOCKS is the current favourite) but otherwise babbles, though he does try and repeat words we say to him with mixed success! He has a bit of a lisp which I am trying to chill out about (I lisp myelf and worry I am passing on bad habits) but is pretty clear otherwise.

samsmam · 11/03/2008 14:40
