Hello ladies!

Well here is the new thread so I can link it before the old one runs out... Hope you all find it!

ejt-your kids are gorgeous! have put more on mine, took one of l0 naked a min ago so you can all see what a porker she is!

mrsF- Ben's a piggy! Shannon only has 3x 7oz bottles and 1x 8oz bottle a day, every 4 hrs then goes 8pm-8am through the night, i haven't even moved her onto the second milk for hungrier babies yet, lucky me
are you all already weaning then? i was under the impression that its reccomended to wait till 6 months and absolutely not to be done before 17 weeks. don't want to sound condecending(sp) and can understand the need to do it like when bf every hour(sorry can't remember who it was) but does anyone feel like they're doing it just because they should? i'm resisting the urge because i know she doesn't need/isn't ready yet.

oh my tooth is killing, going to drug myself up on painkillers and go to bed soon.

xx

Hi all

Knackered so just a brief one and not wanting to miss anyone out so hugs all round - Mine, LES, anyone else feeling crap.

So glad SS went well J20!

Congrats Miss Bumpy!

Alice- is your mobile the Tiny Love one? I was inspecting that one today in Tesco and it has 15 mins of music. Tossing up between that and the Fisherprice rainforest one...

My inlaws were proposing to come in 2 weeks time - I wasnt that happy cos it coincides with DD's 12 week jabs - however they suddenly decided to book for next Friday instead clashing with Berwick meet up and of course since they'll be here three days with York. I am however coming to the meetups anyway since they singularly failed to consult. How rude!!!

Rebecca slept brilliantly on Tues night - from 10-2.30, then from 3.30-6. Brilliantly for her, you understand. She was okay last night but not so brilliant...

Hugs to all...

MrsFish · 24/01/2008 21:11

J20 - I have done two days of baby rice but he wasn't keen so I am going to leave it for another week or so and try again

TheLadyEvenStar · 24/01/2008 21:13

MF, Zachary hated baby rice....go and buy 1 jar of apple and banana swirl......... seems to be a favourite lol

MrsFish · 24/01/2008 21:15

Seeing as his sleep has settled down again I am going to leave it another week or so and then try again. I have bought in some purees to start with until he gets the taste and then I'll make my own

Dalrymps · 24/01/2008 22:21

Just a quick note to say inzi, I know exactly how you feel about your dog, we love our Tess like a child, she also used to sleep in our bed until dylan came along, hope the vet can help and he gets better (((hugs))).
Also can't remember who was asking about when people are starting weaning but i've read a bit about weaning the last few days and am now even stronger in my resolve to wait till the 6 month mark if I can Was weakening a bit and fancying doing it earlier than that but I think thats just cause I wanted to make all the tasty looking purees out of my Annabel Karmel book . Anyway I thought i'd better know the reasons for and against before jumping in with both feet and now feel i've made an informed decision. Apparently the 6 month thing is to do with how mature their gut is and also linked to getting allergies if they are in the family (me and dh have between us excema, asthma and hay feever).Just have to see if ds lasts that long!
Anyway off to feed ds, after speaking with my bf counsellor she sugested to feed him as i have been but try fit in some more bf's into the day rather than more ff, also said to not top him up with formula after a bf and to just bf him again if still hungry - i spoke to her cause wanted to bf more but didn't want to affect his weight gain, so hope i'm up to the challenge, we'll see, who knows, one day i might get back to exclusive bf, probably just as he's about to wean at this rate!
Anyway hello to everyone, sorry for the mainly me me me post, be back soon

Mine · 24/01/2008 22:24

i too thought it would be too early to get ds on things other than milk, but he seems to love it and is not suffering as yet.

Am only giving it for one feed a day followed by milk/water.
He just seems so hungry of late... i think its just a growth spurt of some kind.

I daren't tell the hv as she'll tell me its too early, but after their crap advice over colic, i decided long ago to trust my own instincts and listen to ds too. Poor thing suffered so much as their expense in the early weeks, i'm not doing that again.

I found this lovely puree called Ella's Organic Kitchen in tesco's which you can give from 4 months.. as ds in almost 3 1/2 i though it was close enough!!

Good to hear most of us have had a better day.
choc - shame about the ILs coming to stay... i too say stick with your plans, they'll understand. I'm sure they'll find something to occupy their time whilst you have some mummy/baby time!
J20 - i know how you feel. Had the same thing during 3rd trimester in pregnancy. Bloomin docs wouldn;t give me anything, so i feel your pain .

DS is now asleep, am off to watch ER and read mag with a cup of tea...... hhhmmmm bliss!

MrsFish · 25/01/2008 07:38

Mine - I have bought some of those purees too, they come in handy little pouches and last for 48 hrs whereas the jars only last 24

FloriaTosca · 25/01/2008 09:44

hi
sorry no capitals...one handed typing.
i have tried alex on baby rice for the past 2 nights, just for the last feed of the day, 8pm, in the hope that it would give me a few hours more sleep but if anything he has slept worse .12.30, 3.30,5.30,6.00 and 7.30 and even worse he needed a nappy change at 5.30;i tried feeding but he wasnt that interested yet didnt want to go back to sleep, idiot mummy only then realised that he had a dirty nappy [which he hates] when for over a month now we have only had wet nappies overnight and used the potty in the morning...it seems to me that 17wks is probably just too soon for him to start taking anything more substantial ...so I'll just have to bite the bullet and keep going for another week or two before giving it another try.

off to baby bounce and rhyme at the library this morning....at the community link centre baby massage yesterday they were talking about starting baby yoga and mother and baby aqua-aerobics...i hope they get them going before alex is too old to join in.

Stefka · 25/01/2008 11:19

Hey Dalry - where were you reading up about weaning? I feel I ought to do some research

TheLadyEvenStar · 25/01/2008 11:30

FT, something i have always stuck to is to not give a fed of "solids" after 5pm. this seems to have prevented a dirty nappy in the night. but does give plenty of them during the day lol.

Dalrymps · 25/01/2008 12:20

Stefka - I was mainly reading up about it on mumsnet! just typed 'weaning' in to the search for messages bit and there's discussions on it, also info in my annabel karmen book but i'm sure if you googled it lots would come up

Dalrymps · 25/01/2008 12:32

Stefka - lulumama said some interesting stuff on this one there are a few other too with some good points if you read through them

Stefka · 25/01/2008 13:00

Thanks for the links - I will start reading!

I am trying to decide whether to take Dareh to this thing for babies at the library. It's only on once a month which makes me want to go but it's vile outside plus he is asleep right now. He had is nap time disturbed yesterday and I am not keen to do it again. Maybe I will just wait and see if he wakes up or not.

I got a place on the course btw - I am excited about learning something new.

Dalrymps · 25/01/2008 13:03

cool, what course you doing?

ejt1764 · 25/01/2008 13:13

j20, dal, stefka and others - I'm one of those intending to leave weaning to as close to 6 months as possible - Rhydian started having solids at 17 weeks - but he was both starving, and they hadn't changed the advice to 6 months then!
I'll start giving Mairwen solids when she seems ready for it - she's patently not at the moment ... and it can make her reflux worse, so I'm staying away ... and, as I've said before, I suffer with horredous allergies, asthma and exzema (still can't spell it!) as well, so even more reason for me to wait!

Well, we had filming with the choir last night - our "Captain", Gareth Edwards, had set us the challenge to go to Celtic Manor and learn to play golf - was a bit , but had a wonderful time - we sang in the foyer of the hotel afterwards, and were filmed doing that from various angles! It was a very late night - I went out at 6pm, and didn't get back until after 11! Luckily, I had a lift ... and Mairwen behaved for dh!

DH officially wins the brownie points from me this week - he's started working from home in the mornings until I'm up and about - this morning, Mairwen was being very puky at 630am, so he took her downstairs so I could go back to bed - and brought me a cup of tea in bed at 1020am! Mairwen had gone to sleep in the pram at about 8am, and had stayed asleep ... fab!

I've just done some yoga - I've got a postnatal yoga dvd, and it's wonderful - Mairwen thinks it's hilarious!

Right, off to have some lunch! Have a good weekend all ....

love and hugs to everybody!

Stefka · 25/01/2008 13:18

I am going to try and leave it as long as possible too. 6 months hopefully but I have learned you can never be sure of anything in this parent game!

The course is a counseling one - it's just level one (there are four altogether) but I think it will be interesting and useful.

I need to get to the gym asap - I am not loosing any weight at all

Dalrymps · 25/01/2008 13:46

oh counselling, that sounds like a good course, often fancied something like that myself, hope you enjoy it

Stefka · 25/01/2008 14:08

It doesn't start until March so a bit of time to go yet.

I didn't go to the library thing. He was asleep and I felt bad about waking him up and it's awful outside anyway. I do feel a bit low when I don't go out though.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone next Friday! I just hope I will be ok on the train. I will have to leave early to get there so the trains will be busy and I will have my pram.

FloriaTosca · 25/01/2008 14:09

Interesting links about exclusive bf to 6 months....it has made me realise that DH and my mum are the ones who have been urging me to try babyrice because he wont take a bottle of ebm anymore so they can't help me with feeding...I know it is because they worry that I dont get enough sleep feeding through the night as often as I have to...but those threads made me realise (again )how short this stage is...I'm not going to be doing this again, so why am I rushing it? I think the best thing to do is express again and let DH attempt to do a feed again rather than bulking up his tum to get him to sleep another hour or so. He is 4 months exactly tomorrow (17wks 3 days).. only another 60 days to go ...nothing really

...I wonder how long I will last it out?

WinnieThePooh · 25/01/2008 16:20

Hi allm

Who said bf babies only poo every couple of days. With Shula is is after ewvery othe nappy change. This morning I had just changed her and about to get her dressed when she filled her nappy. I have done 4 or 5 changes today and at least 3 have been dirty as well as wet.

Thanks for inviting me to the Ledbury meet, but it is a bit too far for mee on the trains. It would take about 3 hours each way..

Ispoke to the HV on Wednesday about weaning as Shula is watching us when we eat, but she said that as she is still gaining weight nicely to hold off for the moment. If possible I want to get to 6 months before weaning her..

Sorry I cant remeber what everyone has said.

I hope you all have a good weekend.

J2O · 25/01/2008 16:32

hi all, well i've had a shitty day, in Asda Shannon puked all over me, i ate a mouldy cake that i'd just bought, the coffee was only half full and the lotto woman got nasty with me as my ticket was creased plus my phone hasn't been repaired yet after 3 weeks at carphone warehouse, couldn't fins a bra to fit me and my tooth is still infected and hurting after the dentist drilled another hole in it to drain it but it dopesn't seem to be working, i think its blocked, and i'm really tired and can't have a nap cos dd1 keeps talking to me and lo will need feeding in a min.

sorry, just needed to tell someone, will be back later after i've fed everyone and possibly poured a bottle of wine down my neck since i can't eat anything!

Stefka · 25/01/2008 16:39

Ugh what a horrible day J20 - get that wine down you. I already have the glasses polished and ready to go when DH gets home.

Dareh is very unsettled today and will not take a nap. It makes me feel very tired when he does that.

muppetgirl · 25/01/2008 17:21

Hi all

Had a busy day of it today. Dh took Ollie to school as he was working from home today as there was a landslide on the railway. (Hurrah! he said ) Henry and I had a lie in and snuggle after his morning feed which was lovely.

Dh came back home and asked me if I'd left the garages open but I hadn't and on closer insepction it turned out that some little bard has beem in our garage (and 3 others of our friends on the street) and nicked the christamas presents that I still hadn't posted to Canada. They had opened thwm all and only taken the ones they wanted. -Cheeky shts! Then I had a shower and felt an itch on my back and it turned out one of my moles was red and itchy so ended up at the drs this afternoon being booked in to have it removed and another one that was worrying me. So not the best day but Oliver was good at school (he co operated!) so he got his magazine and picnic tea. (Although going in his room this morning I had found the stool from the toilet with his beanbag on top with his rocking chair on that as he had used them all to get stuff off his shelves that boy's brain will do him a nasty injury!!

Speak later
x

muppetgirl · 25/01/2008 17:27

oh btw dh made Henry laugh and laugh doing peekaboo -it was the first time he'd actualy laughed rather than chuckled.
It was great
