Hello everyone

Sorry to gatecrash, my DD was born 11th Feb 06 and we're having her party on Sunday.

I didn't realise there were antenatal/postnatal threads back then.

My DS is 6 wks old and I've got awful pregnancy brain still so please can you give me some food advice for her party? They'll be adults and toddlers, looking for easy to prepare things. I've got an online tesco order coming tomorrow but they're party food was crap, hardly anything available.

Thanks for any ideas

Chloe55 · 08/02/2008 18:26

Oh dear friz - I hope she is ok.

Hi Loucee, I'm having ds's party on sunday and I have decided to do a vat of chilli and a thai green curry for the adults. Mum is making sarnies/carrot sticks/buns/bread sticks/mini sausages/cheese/cold pizza etc for the kids (they are welcome to the adult stuff but not sure if it might be too spicey) - I'm baking a cake (unless I chicken out!) and mum has bought a tirimasu. Other stuff you could do is jelly/fruit/strawberries dipped in chocolate hmmmmmm/bolognese/lasagne etc. I'm a great believer in kids being able to have a choice of the naughty and nice stuff on their birthday

meridian · 08/02/2008 19:42

last time I thread crash.. Frizbe's DD1 is ok no broken bones just very poorly elbow... I'm sure she will tell you all about it in a little while.

Phoenix · 08/02/2008 19:52

Oh no broken bones is good news

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/02/2008 20:15

Poor dd Friz, but hurrah for no broken bones. How is she feeling?

Loucee - I had dd's birthday tea today. We were only feeding the children (with the odd nibble by mums!), but did:
Beetroot fingers, cucumber fingers, sticks of cheese, raw sugar snap peas, organix crisps, cherry tomatoes, boiled eggs, ham, chicken pieces, cocktail sausages, bread (Sainsbury's do some fresh bread sticks which are ideal for dipping), hummous, cheese dip, various choccy nibbley things, blueberries, grapes, raisins, birthday cake. Was all very easy to prepare.

Tomorrow we are focussing more on nibbles for adults, and we have a load of stuff arriving in the morning from Waitrose Entertaining, plus doing some blini with philly and smoked salmon.

mustrunmore · 08/02/2008 20:15

Hmm...Chloe, I read that as 'strawbeeries dipped in chocolate or bolognese'

Big sigh of relief for no broken bones, and a big hurray that Friz has Meridian so close to cover the shop

Flamesparrow · 08/02/2008 20:30

Ooh very healthy!

yay for no broken bones Friz says she'll be on once the kids are in bed.

Did the birthday tea go well CSWS?

Can we all think very positive thoughts please? I cocked up and forgot to book the MOT, and then the only appointment I could get was for 10.30am next Friday - sooooooooooo, it either needs to pass first time, or be fixed by the end of Friday, otherwise the trip to you is screwed I have never had an MOT where it has taken longer than the end of the day to be fixed, but I am thinking that seeing as I have plans, this is the time it will happen.

Frizbe · 08/02/2008 21:00

Big pass the MOT thoughts for your car then Flame send me your address again on email woman! (demanding voice)

CSWS for your lovely party day, hope dd got loads of lovely presents.
I want to come and eat your food tomorrow mind you Chloes feast on Sunday is sounding good too, Meridian did me a lovely thai green curry the other week and I'm back onto wanting to eat it lots again

So, yes eventful afternoon just as dh gets to York, had literally phone 10 mins before had.....then nursery phone 'sorry to disturb you at work, but you'd better come and get dd1, argh!!!!!' I've done a full blather on my mumsnet blog! but HUGE thanks to poor Meridian, who is not only sitting my kids all day tomorrow for her sins, but ended up looking after the shop, when she only popped by to bring me a coffee (and half a very yummy cream scone). Plus she also got her dh to pick up dd2 from nursery for me, and then looked after her till I got back. Chocs and Flowers were provided Couldn't ask for a better friend .

Both dd's are now asleep, but I'm not expecting a full nights sleep as dd1 has kinda internal brusing thing, you can see blood all around the lower bone joint on the xray thing, usual calpol/ibruprofen mix and a sling have been perscribed. Tho my friend whose a Dr, reckons not to count out a fracture yet, as elbows are notoriously hard to diagnose apparently Looked ok to me on the X-Ray though, so time will tell. Did discover that the hospital have all dd1's xrays on the computer though, so she got to see her hip from birth when it was dislocated! and is now fascintated by photos of her insides

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/02/2008 21:35

Yes thank you flame. All enjoyed soft play (none of them had been to this one before) and then were surprisingly civilised eating their tea! 11 children (and the odd adult munch) managed to consume 58 cocktail sausages, so these should definitely feature as part of any party!!!

Dd blew out her candles without any help, and then she and another friend attempted (and largely succeeded) to dismember Upsy Daisy and Iggle Piggle .

Am totally wiped out now though, and have to be on top form for tomorrow too. We know so far of at least 10 adults and 8 children who are coming, though don't know exactly when, plus there are a few who haven't said whether they are coming or not.

Good car vibes being sent flame. There's nothing that seems dodgy on it is there?

mustrunmore · 08/02/2008 21:53

Dont forget though csws, that the boys ate 60 cocktail sausages on the the way back frm Brent cross between them [shock

I'm glad we're onyt doing a birthday tea for granny and birth partner only

Friz, I'm dreading the first time I get a call like that from nursery.school. Poor you. Glad all is well though. you're so lucky having people to really round!
Flame at car, you muppet.

So. Orange have charged me £5 odd for internet browsing that I never did, and sent the stop text straight away (had 30 days free that I never used at all anyway). No sorry, just 'oh yes, we'll take that off next months bill'. And they had my password spelt wrong ??!! He asked what it was after I did he first 2 letters, and said someone had entered it spelt differently. Do you think thats ok? Or is that now a security risk because I told him? Or am I worrying over nothing? I did think twice about relling him. but then thought, what can he actually do wih it? But there's bound to be something, isnt there?

Just did a slow but steady 7km And ma and dh are gonig running TOGETHER in the morinig Friend babysitting

Flamesparrow · 08/02/2008 21:54

Apart from the fact that the driver's window won't shut if you open it, no. And as far as I know, they don't test opening windows do they?

Frizbe · 08/02/2008 22:43

Ok, its going to be a very long night, have just forced ibruprofen down dd1 20mins ago but she's still screaming place down and refusing to take calpol dh has called and asked if he should come home, I said not yet, but I'm not ruling it out....

CSWS sounds like a lovely day

right back of to dd1, just thought I'd share the joy

Flamesparrow · 08/02/2008 22:54

Got any chocolate in? We are currently bribing DS to take medicine with chocolate. It worked the first time, the second we had to lay him on his back and hold his nose, then give him the choc to stop him crying DD (who hates the medicine) on the other hand, lined up for meds she didn't need so that she could get chocolate Hence me wondering if it would work for your DD1

Flamesparrow · 08/02/2008 22:54

I forgot to say yay for good party. DS should do his candles well too - he is very good at blowing on hot food

Frizbe · 08/02/2008 23:08

I'll try that in a bit, have just managed to get her to drop off for a bit, so I'm off to try and sleep for a sec or 2 myself....not feeling tired though....argh! poor mite, she can't move her arm it hurts so much, so she can't get comfy, is stuck in one spot on her back, with her arm on a pillow

Phoenix · 09/02/2008 09:39

Can anyone offer any clues here please.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/02/2008 09:54

Happy Birthday Lewis!

Frizbe · 09/02/2008 10:27

Happy Birthday Lewis
Will take a look Phoenix.
Have fun today CSWS.

Oh what a night here, dd1 awake and screaming at 22:00-23:30, 01:30-02:30, and then 05:30 onwards, sigh poor mite, 'Mummy it hurts, sob, sob, sob' lots of calpol and nurofen wrestled in, tried the chocolate idea flame, dd1 'I don't like chocolate, sob, scream' sigh ....ooddles of half cuddles. Seemed to cheer up once I fixed her sling properly this am though and has trotted into Meridians ok and is ok so far.

Flamesparrow · 09/02/2008 10:37

Aww Frizbe

Happy Birthday Lewis

I spent the night in DS's bed again - deep joy Thankfully period pains seem to have gone, and cold is on its way out again

DontDreamItBeIt · 09/02/2008 10:50

Glad no bones are broken Frizbe, but still not nice for your poor dd (Or you!)

Happy birthday Lewis

Just a quick post to show you dd1's new room and the rest of dd1's new room

Note that she is now on book 4 of LS, csws

mustrunmore · 09/02/2008 11:32

Oh my god; how much is ds1 going to want that duvet cover??!! (and how much do I want the snicket set !)

Room looks great, although it prob looks more dramatic in the flesh, when you see all the changes together IYSWIM. (subtle hint for an invite when all done!)

Eeek at the poorly people. No idea on the heels. Initial thought was overuse, but I doubt it in a 2yr old!

Me and dh had a run totgeher this morninig I was shit. Far worse than him, an he never runs I need to do more outdoor ones, now the weather is improving and its not pitch black by 3pm!

Frizbe · 09/02/2008 11:40

Oh don't bet on the no broken bones yet, Astro on the march thread was just telling me it took ages for them to spot her's and someone else has mentioned its really hard to diagonse as well will see if she's still bad on Monday, back to A&E.....

Just had to throw some lovely boys out the store for trying to start a fight, sigh they didn't cause enough of a distraction for them to get away with nicking owt as I threw them straight out!

dd2 just got a phone call invite to another party next weekend I didn't realise she was this popular as she spends most of her time away from me these days

Frizbe · 09/02/2008 13:49

MRM it's amazing how much outdoor running gets you better quicker isn't it, in comparision to the treadmill

Jas that room looks great, our mob would all love that duvet set too

EachPeachPearMum · 09/02/2008 15:10

mrm- I first thought 'ma and dh' meant your mum and dh....now it makes sense!

Jas- room looks fab! Looks very grown up though...how old is dd1? Am envying book set too!

Friz- eek for dd1, poor thing, and poor you for horrid scare and bad night.

Phoenix- Happy Birthday Lewis! but for the foot situation- had he been drumming them in the night? Dd always does this, and I do wonder how it doesn't hurt! Lumps sound like an allergy though...fresh bedding yesterday? or socks washed in different powder? I would have expected a chlorine reaction to have shown yesterday tbh.

csws- erm.. beetroot sticks. And toddlers....? are they fresh or pickled beetroot? how do you keep purple hands off beige sofas?

Loucee- Hi, and Happy Birthday dd!

Chloe- a vat of chilli sounds so yummmmmmm!

DontDreamItBeIt · 09/02/2008 15:20

She is 8, but is a books and computer game child, and rarely plays with toys. Everything she wanted to take from the shared room is in there, and two drawers under the bed are still empty

Duvet sets are from Argos (but too expensive for me, so they got them for Christmas)
