I am neither alpha mummy nor domestic goddess.

Stupidly (no "" to be had this time, I mean it) I invited BF & new partner & kids round - in a fit of guilt tht she pissed me off - for play and a meal on Saturday. I am the most inhospitable person in the world and I wish I hadn't. I am secretly hoping for mild illness that can be played up(me) or work (DH) so we can cancel. DH hasn't worked out what he's cooking yet, but I think it should be something simple but impressive (BF is very DG/nigella) that we can eat with salald, he is thinking full-blown meal type hassle.

My big sis used to llive in Adelaide (so did middle sis).

Is it half price listing today?

milkyJammy · 24/01/2008 21:07

Hi Ria. I think your plan for the weekend sounds much better

NattyThomasandEllen · 24/01/2008 21:37

sorry putting kids to bed, then made dinner.. then was transfixed by jamie oliver drools
what i miss?

thisisRialifebaby · 24/01/2008 21:40

I'm quite keen on the one where I exaggerate a mild headache too

Should be trawling recipe books with DH but we're going to watch My Big Fat Greeek Wedding.

thisisRialifebaby · 24/01/2008 22:07

so, so far we're having homemade ginger icecream with stem ginger and ginger wine in it, with ...?

no starter (we're not posh enough), nibbles and dips (and lots of drink to make me more sociable)

annobal · 24/01/2008 22:21

I'd come for the icecream Ria - sounds gorgeous. I also love My Big Fat Greek Wedding (love the lead guy can't remember his name but he was Aden in Sex and the City and the dj in Northern Exposure). How long were your sis' in Adelaide for? Small world - usually people have to confirm where it is...

annobal · 24/01/2008 22:21

Am really going to bed now. n'night.

thisisRialifebaby · 24/01/2008 22:57

middle sis was in Adelaide for about 18 months, she worked in an antique shop/tea rooms which somehow had links with the Anthony Nolan Trust (don't know if he was their son?), big sis lived in Modbury North and Lewiston and was there about 13 years. BIL worked in the prison and she was at the hospital. I visited them when I was about 11, to go there from a tiny farm in a small minded community was weird. (where did I end up? same small minded community!)#

He is quite tasty that bloke. The film makes me think of my mid-sis who married into a really Polish family, for no obvious reason I must add, I suppose it's just different cultures etc. Funny the culture divide between me and DHs family - I'm from north yorks and they're from west yorks

Suppose I should go, DH is leaning towards pork fillet in cream with leeks and tarragon, or poached chicken stuffed with salmon mousse. What's wrong with takeaway pizza and kebab?!

night all. Rx

HellHathNoFury · 25/01/2008 08:34

Morning all!

Morning all

Ria pork fillet with cream etc sounds scrummy....any chance of the recipe? Is it easy?

milkyJammy · 25/01/2008 09:36

Morning

Well I got that 1st line typed about an hour ago, but somehow forgot to press "post" (D'oh!)

Since then have put nappies on to wash, empied and reloaded the dishwasher, had C in hysterics by piling up bricks for her to knock over and got ready for our trip out this morning. Can't believe this high productivity level can last though.

SputnikEnRegalia · 25/01/2008 10:22

It must be hard when you're a chef and everyone that comes to your house expects a slap-up meal

I am happy this morning having limped to the pharmacy yesterday with my bad toe looking for some stronger cream, as I didn't want to wait til monday for the chiropodist. They advised hot compresses with salty water and it has worked miracles; I could hardly walk yesterday and today it almost feels normal! They also gave me a different anti-biotic but I don't think it can have worked that quickly. I am a new woman

Well the pharmacist was a darned sight more useful than the bloody doctor.

I used to find my FIL strange, he would ask questions like "what's the weather like in London". I later realised that he just didn't have a clue what to say to me and was simply attempting to make conversation. I'm not great a small talk.

thisisRialifebaby · 25/01/2008 11:23

soft blocks mhc?

MIL & FIL have difficulty with a) DH has turned into decent person since he married me instead of pining for XW, b)we don't have a tv in every room, main tv size of wall and watch non-stop soaps on it very loudly c)DS1, then aged 8, couldn't play pool like a mini hustler. Weird.

Am so unmotivated again today.

I will ask DH for the recipe norty, but there's only so far I'll go to get it

I hope daisy is ok and isn't flooded.

milkyJammy · 25/01/2008 11:42

Hello again. Glad you like the block idea MHC. We use soft blocks for knocking over. It's only a set of 4 but she gets so much fun out of them, playing with each one individually on her own or piling 'em up/knocking 'em down with me. I'm so glad I spent that £2 getting them from a 2nd hand sale for her Xmas present

It is cool MHC, she takes SUCH pleasure in some of the simplest of things - like me saying "ponk" repeatedly in a silly voice, or moving my head from one side of the pile of bricks to the other. We went to the library this morning for Rhyme Time, and everyone said how happy she looked. She didn't pay any attention to the stories or songs, was just grinning madly at all the other babies and toddlers
