Ahh Silk I know just what you mean I keep falling more and more in love with Adam, he is just so scrummy. And I still have to work for smiles RG (apart from mornings like you!) but I get lots of cooing and chatting when we are on our own (I'm sure no-one believes me because he goes quiet for strangers).

Re weight loss, I have heard some people say they didn't lose their weight until they finished breast-feeding. And we have had xmas. And January is such a crap month that we need lots of comfort food .

RGPargy · 27/01/2008 10:22

Glad i'm not the only one who has to work for any signs of a smile!!

You are right, Sarah. We've had lots to stop us dieting. So far we've had: Christmas, New Year, finishing off Christmas stuff throughout January, my birthday, feeling depressed coz it's miserable etc etc. Yes, you are right. Lots of comfort food.

Well observed RG - I had a mozzer moment - harking back to the times when I used to walk into uni listening to the Smiths.

I have to say Sara smiles a lot - maybe that's what is using up all her calories and stopping her gaining weight! She smiles mostly for DS. She can't get enough of him - it's so cute.

About weight - I have also heard that breastfeeding women retain a bit of pregnancy weight to ensure there are enough calorie reserves for baby.

DJarm - Hats off to you returning to work already. And you silk - only a week away! I have done a couple of henna bookings this week and last, but it's just meant leaving Sara for 4 hours each time in the evening. Once with my mum and once with DH. The idea of leaving her for a full day at a 'proper' job makes me slightly nervous because I have been a SAHM since DS was born 2.5 years ago. I have looked at a nursery though and will be looking at another in a week, so I am trying to prepare myself.

I'm sure it will be a lot worse for me than it will be for Sara!

Having said all this - I don't actually have a job to go to yet - should do my CV asap really.

P.S. Mint clubs are obviously the only variety worth mentioning.

fiona76 · 27/01/2008 19:26

Hi everyone hope you had a lovely weekend!

It was stunning in london got out and about walking in the sunshine.

DD is having a hard time going to sleep tonight seems to be a pattern emerging. She was excellent until a few nights ago and for the last 3 nights she has cried and wanted to be held. Once she goes to sleep she is fine and she even slept from midnight until 7am last night.

There she goes again must dash......

ChocolateHobnob · 27/01/2008 21:00

Hi all

someone on the Oct thread said a doctor had told her that bf triggers sugar-cravings... which is my excuse anyway....
but if it comes to Clubs, orange are best!!!

DD is very overtired tonight after too much handling today and too much excitement. Bet tonight's not a good night's sleep.

She is still bottle-refusing, and I've tried several types now. It's so souldestroying to express and see her scream when DH tries to feed her (I hide, but I can hear her!).

Silk, how's Megan this weekend?

Everyone else - hello! and RG, your doctor sounds like a mare. Mine didnt weigh me... luckily...

RGPargy · 27/01/2008 21:36

Charm - ah the good ol' Smiffs. Gotta love 'em! I think that i am one of those women who retains pg weight. It has nothing to do with double choc chip muffins and clubs. Honest.

Fiona - glad you enjoyed London. After years and years of working in London, i find it as appealing as having teeth pulled, but that's just my opinion lol. Hope you get a half decent night's sleep tonight!

Choc - That doc must be spot on then. I have nothing but sugar cravings! It cant help that i've started my periods again too - double-whammy sugar cravings! Try not to get too disheartened by DD not taking to bottles. She'll get the idea eventually - hang in there. Hope you also get a good night's sleep.

I wish Ellie would give me more than 3 hours sleep at night! Hopefully tonight will be the start of things changing as she has gone 4 hourly between feeds all day and has spent practically the entire day asleep (and a bit grumpy with it). Let's hope she gives me a bit of respite tonight and allows me a few extra minutes sleep.

SparklyGothKat · 27/01/2008 22:52

hi all, Callum has been in bed since 9pm tonight, hasn't woken yet. He did down 150ml of formula after a breastfeed though lol. We are going to move him from his moses basket this week as he is getting a bit big for it. I have a crib which is downstairs, so that will be taken upstairs. I still have him in my room with me.

DH said he will sort out Callum's room (its become a bit of of a dumping ground) this week so its ready for when I am ready to let Callum go into his own room

Callum has started to giggle midfeed and it makes me laugh which in turn makes him give a huge grin and doesn't go back on easy lol.

RGPargy · 27/01/2008 22:59

Sounds like he's coming on in leaps and bounds Sparkly. Bless him and his giggling! I cant wait for Ellie to start laughing and giggling!

LittleMissBliss · 28/01/2008 09:10

Good morning all, Charming has inpsired a name change!

Nothing to report hope everyone has a lovely day.

fiona76 · 28/01/2008 09:25

Hi Bliss who were you?

fiona76 · 28/01/2008 09:35

DD Went to sleep after 9pm and then only woke once at 2.30am so not too bad. Don't know why she is all of a sudden not going to sleep at 7pm she is always sleepy at the 'last' feed and has a nice relaxing bath before that. Maybe its a growth spurt but then why would she sleep so well afterwards. Maybe I've just been very lucky up until now?

We have our whole street ripped up putting in new pipes for thames water and its loud and messy. They have been doing it for a week already. Wish they would hurry up- Grumpy moan over.

RG- Don't mean actually london haven't been up to town for almost a year I live in SWLondon and just wondered around the high street in the sun yesterday. I can't stand the tube so avoid it at all costs.

sarahloumadam · 28/01/2008 10:11

HI Chocolate - I am exeriencing problems getting DS to take bottles too and it is horrible hearing him cry while my poor DH tries to cajole him . I have tried Avent and Tommy Tippee and I am going to buy a MAM teat today cos I have seen them recommended on here. My HV also said you could use a feeding cup but I'm not sure which type because I thought the flow would be a bit too fast? Let me know if you find anything that works.

ThisCharmingMum · 28/01/2008 10:22

Fiona - who knows what drives our babies to change their habits all the time? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it most of the time. Well done to DD for sleeping so well though. I am trying to bring Sara's bedtime closer to 10:30/11pm as well. She was in a routine of sleeping at 12.30 but now I've got her to around 11:45pm.

I have to disagree with you and RG. I adore London town! I lived in SE London for 3.5 years and miss it loads. I do love it up here in Leeds and love having family close by - but I did love living down south. Having said that - I could never have afforded to go back to work because putting 2 kids in childcare for 3 days a week would have cost me about £1,500pm. Plus we'd never be able to afford the sort of house we can afford up here.

Maybe I am looking at it through rose tinted glasses because of fond newlywed memories. sigh

Littlemissbliss - reveal yourself.

Taking little DS to his first football class today - so exciting!

silkcushion · 28/01/2008 10:28

Morning all - not a great night here a very squirmy grizzly baby all night. When I stripped her off at 6.30 her skin on her back had flared up again - red and inflamed. Also ahd a bit of a scare on saturday - blood in her poo. Out of hours doctor said it was probably nothing to worry about but has asked us to see our gp today - just waiting for an appointment.

Might have to whisper this but I have lost 11lbs in 2 weeks with weight watchers and that is not on a very restrictive diet (although no clubs).

ChocolateHobnob · 28/01/2008 10:28

Sarah - I tried Avent and Tommy Tippee. Rebecca used to take Avent right up till she was 8 weeks (sigh) and since has been refusing. It is really distressing to see her cry. I guess I might try MAM, too.

Littlemiss bliss - Silk?? DJARM???

ThisCharmingMum · 28/01/2008 10:29

Choc and Sarahlou - good luck with the bottles. WHen I first tried Sara with it, she took it fine. But then for no reason started refusing it for about 2 weeks. I stopped and gave it to her again every few days and she eventually decided to be gracious enough to take it again.

Do either of your babies take dummies? Sara gets very very angry if she doesn't get fed immediately and gets in such a state that she won't feed from me or bottle. So I sometimes have to give her a dummy to calm her down, get boob/bottle ready, and then whip dummy out and whip nipple/teat into her mouth AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE so she just continues sucking and ends up feeding. If this process takes longer than 0.3milliseconds, she screams the place down and I have to start again!

Maybe it would work if your babies take dummies but not bottles?

RGPargy · 28/01/2008 10:41

I reckon LittleMissBliss is BerryBliss?

Fiona - that's a good night's sleep from DD! I've tried putting Ellie to sleep early - sometimes she's wide awake and nowhere near ready for a long sleep and other times she conks out so there's no rule for her either!

Last night Ellie went to bed at around 11pm and then we were up and down the stairs for an hour as usual. Her last feed at been at 10pm and she didn't wake up til 3.30am so i was impressed with that. Then she woke up at 7.30am for breakfast so not bad at all! Unbelievably, she slept through DP's alarm going off a few times too. Yay!

Charm - I think London is like Marmite. You either love it or you hate it! To me it's only ever meant work and as for going out socially, it is good fun but a complete PITA to get home from. There are no trains or buses from London to Kent after about 11.45pm so just as London hots up for the night, us Kentinians (that's a made up word by the way) have to bid farewell to everyone else who are on their way to getting ratted. It's pants!!

Good luck with DS's footie class!!

Silk - Talk to the hand!!

Poor Megan - hope you get an appointment ASAP and she feels better soon.

LizzieO · 28/01/2008 12:52

Hieveryone,

just managed to write long post and then delete it s**t, have had a quick catch up, i say quick but it has actually taken bloody ages, what with the note taking and everything

Ollie, DS and DH full of snot at the mo. burt despite the mountains of snot Ollie is still managing to eat, sleep and smile his way thru it, at the mo he is going to bed at 7pm (a la GF) then waking at 10 for a feed, and then he either seems to wake at 3 and then 6.30 or 2.30 and then 5.30, so either way still a bit of a killer, he is nearly 12 weeks so methinks he should be starting to sleep thru admittedly we have just started the 7.00pm regime, and he does have a cold , and he could be going thru a growth spurt..etc etc etc, but once he his over his cold and still waking,

i might introduce a bottle of formula at his 10 feed to see is that does the trick
Anyone else doing this ??? i shouldn't be impatient but DS1 was def sleeping thru at this stage, altho' he was FF and not BF

Choc - i had been expressing a bottle and letting DH try to give it to him, and i do mean try but more often then not i would end up BF and the bottle wld end up down the sink, i should try and get him used to a bottle again tho, as i want to have some kind of social life again, and it means someone else can feed him.

RG - i've had a period too ! i though the BF might fend them off for a while but no ! i also need to get myself down to the family planning clinic and sort out some kind of contraception. I have also hear that BF women retain weight, tho i know with some women it does the opposite either way absolutely no point in dieting whilst BF

Silk - poor little Megan hope you find out what is happening with her soon,
(good luck with the weight loss btw)

right i wonder if i can have a quick bath before ollie wakes..zooooom

LittleMissBliss · 28/01/2008 13:23

RG- your on the ball! I felt like change but nothing too radical! The lady who gave the talk about teeth last Tuesday, said dummies are better than thumbs because you can take them away at a year. Coby has never had a dummy but suck on his fist sometimes.

I think London is lovely to visit but wouldn't want to live there.

Silk- well done on the weight loss!I'm also v. and i hope megan gets well soon.

I had my first night out on Sat and Dp really didn't cope well. I was only gone for 5 hours. Cobys def a mummies boy he's good as gold for me.

ara · 28/01/2008 13:33

Happy Monday everyone -

RG and LizzieO... commiserations - i got my period back at 6weeks, sob - just as my post-baby bleed was stopping. Nice.

Sarahlou and Chocolate - I think Sparkly recommended a bottle called TUK or something a while ago which was supposed to encourage them to use their mouths in similar way as they do on the breast. Sorry I can't remember any more details!

Phoebe slept for nearly ELEVEN HOURS last night !!!!!!! I woke her at 9am as was getting a bit and she has been as happy as larry all day - she was 7 weeks old yesterday and weighed 12lbs10oz at the weigh in this morning. She was lying next to a lovely little girl of 6 months old and was almost the same size as her!

ThisCharmingMum · 28/01/2008 16:29

I was just thinking last night whether periods would reappear while I was bfeeding. You guys must have read my mind!

Just got back from socatots. I would highly recommend it. DS had so much fun. They incorporate allsorts into the class as well as football skills. Colours, numbers, parts of the body, left and right. If I hadn't spent the whole of last summer miserably pregnant, I would have taken him a long time ago.

Shame there weren't any little girls there though. I can't wait till Sara is old enough to go along

Lovely to hear from you LIzzie Ollie sounds like a cheerful soul. Don't know what to suggest regarding night waking. How are you getting on with GF? I use her book as a reference but must admit I am totally rubbish at following her routines.

Ara - and at Phoebe's weight! Sara is barely 10lb at 11 weeks old! What are you feeding her and can I have some?!

ThisCharmingMum · 28/01/2008 16:32

RG - I see what you mean about London. I used to have good transport links from where I lived so wasn't too mithered about train times etc.

Of course, if I lived in London life would be a lot different to what I remember. It's not exactly easy getting around London with a baby and a toddler in tow!

ThisCharmingMum · 28/01/2008 16:33

When do you think we can stop thinking of our babies as 'newborn'?

I think at 12 weeks, I will upgrade Sara to 'baby' from 'newborn baby'.

Baby sounds less demanding!
