Hi RG, LOM and everyone wave manically

I cannot believe I've not been on here for so long. Life has been mega hectic with bits of work and the kids and family and the normal highs and lows of life.

I really need to sit down and catch up with the thread - will put my feet up sometime this week to read through and catch up on all your news.

Sara is great - still a tiny mini baby but she's really developing. Rolls over, tries to sit up and kind of says 'Abu' (dad) when I ask her to. Well, she probably doesn't really say it but I'm her mother so I'm allowed to exagerrate he he.

Not weaned her yet - will do next week. Got friends coming Sat-Tue so will do after that.

Got to dash - just wanted to let you know I was still thinking of you all. xxx

ThisCharmingMum · 14/04/2008 14:28

Oops - just realised I might have sounded sumg and irritating about the rolling and sitting development.

Please remember Sara is one of the oldest babies on the thread!

I probably sound even more smug now.

I think I'll just shut up.

Febes · 14/04/2008 15:00

Hi Charming we missed you!!! Well done sara for the rolling and sitting. Please don't apoligise for crowing as we'll be doing the same when our LOs start moving

RGPargy · 14/04/2008 16:01

Hello Charming! About time you showed your face!!

Hope you and your family are all well!

Can I join? DD born 7-11 Question, what keeps your lo's entertained? Isla loves her play mat for about 20mins at a time, but can stay awake for hours, and i often find myself thinking what next?

RGPargy · 14/04/2008 16:22

Hi Islamum and welcome!

Glad i'm not the only one wondering how to keep DD entertained!! If i'm really really stuck and DD is getting very bored, i try and get out of the house.

We walk every day, she just loves being in pushchair, I dread rainy days! We end up feeding alot which i'm sure isn't great, and after initially loving solids she now cries when i try to give her anything other than booby

guess what Callum is doing right now??!!!

He has grabbed his bottle (of formula, still on a nursing strike) and has put it in his mouth and is feeding himself!!!!!!!!!!!

Febes · 14/04/2008 19:51

Thanks Loopy I think that sounds like the way forward. I shall call it finger / puree diet to avoid being slated

I have pics of course, will download them later

LMB - I know what you mean, soggy manky food is not worth saving! And rusks just turn into concrete don't they/ My DD loves weetabix but I am always finding solidified bits stuck to the floor which are a nightmare to clean.

sarah - William has the same giraffe, it was his first toy! Your boy is sooo cute.

LOM - your head doesn't sound very helpful, great idea about the prawns . I go back to work in one week!! I have nearly the smae timetable, I have a little less teaching though and more QTS which is basically supporting other teachers with more difficult classes. it's good fun, and no marking!!

Hi charming - good to see you again! I bet Sara is saying Abu - all our babies are geniuses

Looopy - We used to go to Castle Drogo every year as we always holidayed in Otterton. I have such fond memories of going there. My grandad was born in Lympstone.

Sparkly - Callum clearly knows his own mind!

Febes - I did mostly purees with my DD, and she gave herself the usual like rusks, bits of banana etc. Now at the age of 2 1/2 she can sort of use a knife and fork, and hates to be fed, so I don't necessarily think BLW is any better in terms of babies learning to feed themselves. Each baby will do things in their own time.

welcome Islamum!

RG - he's really toned down the PS3 since my meltdown, and been more useful generally. I think it's sunk in how much hard work it is especially when William isn't the world's best sleeper! When I told him he would need to take July 7th of work to look after the kids as nursery is closed his face was a picture, he couldn't quite believe he would have to look after them for a whole day!!

William had his first session at nursery today - he slept for most of it! He's got 2 more before I start work next Monday. On Friday I shall 2 whole hours to myself as DD will be at nursery, so will William and DH will be at work! I won't know what to do with myself!

Pixiefish · 15/04/2008 07:36

I'm starting to think of weaning dd2 now. I really want to do the BLW. My mother did that thing with her eyes when I told her- lovely to get support.

Have tried giving dd2 some bits of carrot but she doens't seem interested, neither is she sitting up so I guess we just leave it for now. I've ordered a highchair so she can sit in it in the kitchen rather than be in the wrap- at least then I can start doing some more cooking

sarahloumadam · 15/04/2008 07:56

Hi all
Jetgirl - Adam's first toy too, he loves his giraffe!

Pixie - LOL I told my mum about BLW on the phone and she said "really?" when I got to the bit about skipping purees. She didn't sound convinced! I'm not telling anyone else, I'm just going to get on with it . Although I think I'll probably do a bit of mush too so I won't be doing BLW in the purist sense.

Hi Charming, clever Sara! How old is she now? Adam has suddenly worked out he can grab things and he was bullying his Dad the other day, grabbed his glasses, pulled his hair and scratched his face! Mind you the DH is so soft on DS that he just sat there like a big wally.

Wow Sparkly! What a star.

Hi Islamum - I also do a circuit type thing with DS like Loopy does. He hates being in his pram/pushchair so my idea of being on mat leave and going for loads of lovely walks has not materialised. Have you tried blowing bubbles? DS loves that apart from the time I got one in his eye . I am also going to put together one of these treasure baskets soon cos he just loves exploring with his hands at the mo.

Well my skin and hair is really greasy at the mo (nice!) and my hair is also falling out at an alarming rate so I have definately lost any nice glowy hormones that I had when preggers. Anyone else notice changes like this? TMI alert - I am going to get the coil fitted today. DH said why bother not like we need it ! MIL is coming to watch DS for an hour so fingers crossed it goes ok because he normally howls when he sees her.

Have a good day everyone x

SparklyGothKat · 15/04/2008 10:01

Callum can now grab food and put it in his mouth, so we are ready for BLW

Febes · 15/04/2008 12:38

Hi!!
Jet- Yeah I think all babies get the eating thing when they are ready regardless of what we do. I'll deffo being doing a bit of mash and a bit of finger food.
Pixie/ Sarah- My mum was also like "Really???" when I was explaining BLW so I think just keeping quiet and getting on with it is the way forward.
Sarah- I noticed a few weeks ago that my hair was falling out. I was surprised the nice shiny thick hair lasted so long after I had DD. Does that mean I might get my period soon. . We actually had relations on the weekend after quite a daught and I'm not on the mini pill or anything so am wondering if I could get pregnant. We aren't properly TTC but just letting nature take it course while hoping it will happen soonish. How will I know I'm pregnant if I haven't had my period? Am I mad?

Sparkly- Exciting news with the drinking and eating Callum is so good.

Welcome Islamum !!!

RGPargy · 15/04/2008 13:41

Afternoon everyone.

I now have something i can actually do a circuit WITH!! We bought a door bouncer last night and so i tried DD out in it for the first time today. She wasn't too sure about what she was actually supposed to DO in it, but she was ok for about 10-15 minutes before she started to whinge. It's a start!! Next i'm going to buy an inflatable ring thing i think so that she can sit in that too and not get quite so bored. Considering he absolutely dotes on her, DP is surprisingly tight when it comes to buying DD new toys. Think i might have to put my foot down a bit and demand he gives her some slack and remind him how boring it must be to sit in the same chair and play with the same toys all day every day!!

Ooooo i've had to stop using my swaddling sheet!!!! Yesterday I went into DD's room after she'd woken me and found that she had done a complete 180 degree turn in her cot, had got her arms free of the swaddler and subsequently it was wrapped AROUND HER NECK!!! Thankfully it wasn't tight or anything but there's no way i can use it now that she is so active in the space of about 10 minutes from when she wakes up to when she shouts for me!!

Loopy - the mixed feeding sounds like a good balance to me. I sometimes wonder if MN can make you worry too much on certain things. For instance, if you'd never have discovered MN, what would you have done? Does that makes sense??

Sparkly - Yay Callum!

Jet - I dont think they DO realise how much hard work a baby can be, especially when they are not sleeping through! Glad he's eased of COD4 tho. I knew i was playing it too much because when i closed my eyes at night all i could see was bullet fire and soldiers lol

Pixie/Sarah/Febes - isn't it funny how alot of mums just raise their eyebrows and say "oh right" when you mention it to them?!! Its like they cant see past how they did things "back in the day" lol. I still cant get over how my mum got the hump when i told her i was massaging DD. I said it was a bonding thing and she snapped that in her day she just cuddled her babies and laid with them on the sofa to bond. Erm, hello mother!! This is 2008 and things change!!

Sarah - those treasure baskets look lovely! Bit pricey tho! Deffo best off doing your own.

I haven't noticed any difference in my hair, but then i probably wouldn't as it's so short. My nails are still growing at an alarming rate tho! Good luck for later Sarah. I hate having that fitted and always end up with a period-type tummy ache after.

Febes - you're lucky for not having had a period yet! Mine came back a month after i stopped the post-natal bleeding and have been regular as clockwork ever since, despite still breastfeeding!

I keep thinking about the bottle of EBM i fed DD on Sunday and about how much i enjoyed it. I'd thawed out another bottle too so didn't want to waste it and went to give that to her too but she only had a couple of ounces from it but still wanted to feed from me so it makes me wonder if she is ok to have one bottle but isn't keen on more than one.....

Just waiting for DD to wake up and then i'm over to MILs to drop her off for some Nanna bonding time. I'm going to pop to my friend's place round the corner for a cuppa for a couple of hours so that MIL can get used to dealing with DD, warts and all!

Have a nice afternoon everyone.

RG- I borrowed a bumbo for dd2- it seems to work although she can get out of it as her thighs are so skinny- that's only when she twists a certain way when she's screaming though so I just get to her when she starts screaming.

She's moving around quite a lot on the mat at the momnent although she won't stay on it for very long.

littleoldme · 15/04/2008 18:42

Welcome Isla mum.

Loopy - Your baby activity sounds mega organised. T usually end up on his gym or under his mobile. Most of the time though I just coo at him c'os he's so lovely.

jet- Glad you've got a good timetable. Sounds like your boss could teach mine a thing or two.

Sarah - My hair is falling out hugely and I've got ahuge zit. you are not alone.

Must dash - pasta is ready

ChocolateHobnob · 15/04/2008 18:55

Febes - my SIL got pregnant while bf without having had a period and there is a 14 month gap between her two. There would be between yours if you were pregnant now! Scary!!! But exciting.

Hi Islasmum!

I am amused by the intensity of the weaning and bf sections of this forum. Some people have very strong opinions! My mum liked the idea of BLW, actually. I was weaned late, it would seem, whereas my brother was weaned at 4 months. I was bf for longer, too.

In terms of entertainment, DD goes from: the playmat, to tummy time, to her swing, to her jumperoo, to doing baby yoga with mummy on the bed, to her bumbo, to sleep! Yep she's a spoilt first born... I have more time to fill than most cos she barely sleeps (exhausted emoticon time). She isnt doing more than 45 mins sleep at any one time at night... not cos she's hungry, she just wants to play. Mummy doesnt.

Got to go as she's coming out of the bath! (DH baths her then she's mine for clothes on, feed and bed!!)

Pixiefish · 15/04/2008 21:23

a friend of mine has got pg when her child was 6 weeks old- this has happened about 5 times (she has 7 kids)

Islamum · 15/04/2008 22:06

The play circit sounds like a great idea, I have brought a jumper thing from ebay which is currently being held hostage at the post office depot, we did lots of hanging out washing today as it was sunny and I was feeling rough yesterday so did no housework at all (how does it pile up so quickly) Also failed to get round to making purees last week so brought some from shops, dd loved them after really fussing over mine, dh says not just him who doesn't like my cooking! I think she must like the stronger flavours, have to rethink her menu for next week.
My hair is also falling out, seem to be constantly picking them off dd! I hadn't thought about periods, what a horrid thought.
RGP my dd is very active in cot to, she can pull down her mobile, unhook the mirror from it and twist herself 180 all in under 10 mins!
Isn't it funny how people have such strong views on weaning, I was discussing it with my mum and she said well you and your brother can both now feed yourselves and sleep through the night (we're 28 and 25). Guess in the end we all get there somehow right!
