My mum said that I was doing well, but when was I going to give up? I said that I fought tooth and nail to feed him and I am going to continue as long as I want, but I defo. want to get to 1 year..

Pixiefish · 02/04/2008 08:15

A few week ago it looked like my milk was drying up adn I was desperate to get to 6 months but it looks like that is no longer the case. I really want to get to 12 months now as well. I'm hoping to stop the formula once I start weaning her in 4 weeks or so. She's 22 weeks now and i'm planning on doing the BLW with her

jetgirl · 02/04/2008 12:15

Sparkly and Pixie - you are both inspirational! Your persistence is amazing Callum is gorgeous, sparkly.

The weather has been lovely so I took the kids on a nice long walk yesterday and we went to feed the ducks. DD loved it, and William was fascinated by the ducks and pigeons. I walked miles and I can feel the effects of it today! I've also been doing my davina workout dvd, which DD tries to join in with which is very funny. William just thinks we're mad!

LittleMissBliss · 02/04/2008 15:55

jet- I have the Davina work out dvd, but i've only ever done it once. I really need to invest in a sports bra. I'm not used to having such big breasts, before ds i was only a b cup and never needed to bother. I think its a really good work out but davina is a bit too Davinaish and she did annoy me a tad!

Fiona- congrats on your first day back hope it continues to go well. I really admire teachers, My dad's one and can't see why anyone would want to teach. Only because kids are so naughty and rude these days (no respect)! But i'm sure there are the lovely ones that make it all worth it (that's what my dad says any way + the holidays!) What age group do you teach?

Sparkly- well done! I'm going to try and bf till 12 months too. Before i did my course i was thinking of stopping at 6 months (thought that's what eveyone did). But i'm still enjoying it and as its going well don't really see a reason to stop now.

Well i've been super healthy, after my moan about by cascading belly over my jeans i thought i might as well do something about it. And so far so good! (i normally cave in to cakes, chocolates etc. after 3 days!)

I made sure i did the ASDA shop last week and got loads of veggies, fresh soup, brown bread, musli, lots of fruit and yoghurts. I'm also walking every day. Except today as i've done a top to bottom house clean and i think that counts!
Well so far in 6 days i've lost 3 1/2 lb so i'm getting there. only another 18 to got...
But i'm so focused now and much happier.

Hi all,
I've finished work for the week thank goodness. It was an ok week back at work. I'm doing 3 days per week mon-wed and now its holidays so I don't go back for 2 weeks. Anabel was a treasure for DH and he loved being in charge. He cooked dinner, did washing and looked after me so it was a treat all round. She has started giggling now which is so lovely and we do the craziest things to get her to do it.

My expressing is going really well its much easier now. I get 140mls (5 ozs) at each pump and I pump twice while at work. Anabel has about this much for each feed so its worked out perfectly. I have a room at school to express in but it also is a resource room and today a teaching assistant was in there when I went in and didn't get the hint to leave and so I started expressing and she was chatting away and I was so I couldn't get much out so left and had to come back at my next break when my boobs were ready to burst. Never mind.

fiona76 · 02/04/2008 19:52

LMB- I teach Y6 mainly but now I am going all round the school which is great I was in nursery the other day and loved it. My school is great the kids are all lovely and I love the job.

littleoldme · 02/04/2008 20:49

Just a quick hello as it's time for me to go to bed- didn't sleep well last night as I lay awake thinking about childminders...

T starts swimming lessons next week which of course means I'll have to wear a swimming costume Not entirely sure that an unsuspecting public in ready for the sight of me in swimmers.

Sleep well xx

We've got a nice quiet day planned today so thought I'd have a proper catch up. T has found getting up and dressed so stressfull that he has gone back to sleep. The last few weeks he seems to want to spend most of his time snoozing.

Well I've just written my letter to confirm that I'm going to back to work for the last week of term in July. It means I get to dip my toe at a nice time of the year and i don't have it hanging over me all Summer.

I've decided not to send T to nursery and have have a lovely childminder that I feel much happier with. I'm so relieved. I work in an unpleasant part of Bradford ( not that Bradford is overfolwing with pleasnat areas) so my choices were quite limited.

Fiona - I'm so pleased that going back to work is going ok for you. Your school sounds lovely. I really admire you doing primary. I did primary supply for while but stopped as I kept making them cry

LMB - Great that you are feeling happier about life. That flobby feeling is just awful. I've got got horrible baggy bit over my section scar and I hate it.

Sparkly- Callum sounds fab. can we have some more pics please.

RG - Yay - please the DVDS arrived safe and sound.

Sam - Nice to have you back chuck.

Has anyone heard from JARM. She hasn't been on for ages ?

SparklyGothKat · 03/04/2008 11:08

LizzieO · 03/04/2008 14:54

Hey everyone

hope your all good !!!

Ollie is doing well, his two bottom teeth are coming through...ooowwwwwwwwwww, boy does it hurt when he has a chew, have also started to put blanket over window to darken further, and i don't want to jinx things buttt..... he has being going through from dream feed to 5.30 / 6.30ish ans then going back till 08.30 i am giving him bigger meals 3 times a day and he seems to be taking less breast milk, still won't take forumla from cup but i am using formula in his porridge and rice,

Congrats Choc - also have house on market had been on for 3 weeks and have had lots of viewings and been looking at other houses, but each day its all doom and gloom on the news, so it may be that if it doesn't sell we take it off the market and build an extension to tide us other till the market picks up again.

SGK - isn't Callum gorgeous and wasn't he such a tiny little thing !!! i bet you can't remember him being so little, DS1 is such a big strong boy now you would never have imagined he was such a tiny little skinny thing when he came 8 weeks early !!!

Fiona - well done on your week back at work, i have just this morning accepted redundo from work which feels a bit strange. so things are going to get a bit tight here, was due to go back in Nov anyway bu, i do intend on going back prob when Ollie starts nursery but need to think about retraining and new career

Little old me - it feels so much better when you have sorted out childcare doesn't it, are you planning on more kids do you think ?

RG - are you going back full or part time and do you know what you will do with Ellie

LMB - well done on being all healthy like, i did actually go for swim and gym class last night, but then have eaten golden nuggets for brekki and had door step sandwich with lots of cheese and pickle with crisps for lunch, and have just stuffed my face with biscuits, hhhmmmmm the time is coming when i will no longer be able to blame the extra two stone on breastfeeding

Glastonbury tix go on sale on Sunday so please all send me your postive luck vibes

Lx

SparklyGothKat · 03/04/2008 15:23

I can't remember him being tiny, no, its shocking how quickly they grow. He is still small for 6 months, and wears 0-3 clothes. But he is huge compared to what he was.

sarahloumadam · 03/04/2008 16:33

HI all
SGK - he has still got those gorgeous big eyes!

Iris - hello, long time no hear! I sometimes just take a peek at what is going on because I don't have much to add.

LOM - glad you got your childcare sorted, big relief. We were originally going for 2 days with MIL and 1 day at childminders (much to DH's horror as he has subsidised nursery at his work!) but want to chat to MIL and check she is really, really ok with 2 days - a lot to ask I think. IKWYM re section scar - didn't think mine was too bad but saw myself naked full frontal the other day and got a fright - scar looked like a big smile! Am back to normal weight but baggier all over .

Good luck to all you house buyers/sellers. Was only thinking about our stressful move the other day (2 weeks before Adam's EDD!) but it was worth it in the end, we are very happy here.

Fiona - glad your first week at work went ok. Went to meet some of my work colleagues for lunch today and the prospect of going back didn't seem so horrendous as it did initially. In another life I would have been a happy SAHM though! But not in this one, bill to pay .

Adam seems to be a good bedtime routine for the time being, has even slept from 7 - 7 last two nights! Funnily enough though I still feel knackered, need to get some early nights and take advantage of this good spell. Have a good evening everyone. x

SparklyGothKat · 03/04/2008 16:35

I have just receieved a call, from GOSH saying that they are going to operate on Ds1 on the 20th May! I don;t know if they will allow me to take Callum with me.. I can't give up BF now...

RGPargy · 03/04/2008 22:16

Evening everyone sniff

I've got my first cold in over a year and a bit and it's horrible!! Poor little Ellie is suffering too, but she's quite chirpy with it, bless her.

Jet - well done on doing Davina! I actually managed to do some of my step video on Monday, but only got to do 20 mins before Ellie woke up and wouldn't go back to sleep again! Oh well, more maticulous timing is needed i think.

LMB - well done on the healthy shopping! You go girl!

Fiona - well done on your first week at work. LOL @ the teaching assistant not getting the hint!

LOM - Swimming, eh? I wanted to do that when pg but never got round to it. One of my Wednesday lunch girls has given me a swimsuit for 18-24 months and some swimmers swim pants too. I dont think i'm quite ready to unleash my body on the world just yet. I'd empty the pool!! Glad you've got your child care sorted out. Takes a huge weight of your shoulders doesn't it.

Loopy - how did the jabs go? Hope she wasn't too upset, poor thing. Ellie has hers on Tuesday and i am NOT looking forward to it at all!!

Lizzie - wowsers re Ollie's sleeping! Fingers crossed he stays that way, although Ellie didn't last longer than 3 nights in her sleeping pattern of 8-4-8!! Good luck tho! Good luck for Glasto tickets!

Talking of work, i got my letter through today from the office telling me what's left of my ML allowance. I think i've got about 14/15 weeks left of leave with SMP, after that i get 13 weeks unpaid. They want me to let them know when i'm going back and i have to give them 8 weeks' notice of when i'm going back, so not long to tell them really! I want to go back 2 days a week so hopefully they will be able to accommodate me. Well, i dont actually want to go back to work at all, but we're struggling financially so i have to.

Sarah - great news on Adam's 7-7 routine! Why cant i be that lucky?!!

Loopy - I'm afraid to say i'm back on the disposables. I found the reusables were alot of faffing around and i was so worried that the wetness would go back onto Ellie's skin and cause a rash. Plus none of her little trousers would fit over them!! I'm glad i have switched back tho because Ellie now seems to be having a poo every day - funnily enough ever since we stopped the Infacol!

Hope you are all well, nothing new to add now really.

Might get Ellie weighed tomorrow, she's starting to feel really heavy!

Hi all,

I've been taking advantage of this lovely weather and getting out a bit - I can't believe that it's going to snow this weekend, I'd bought a lovely summery outfit for William's christening on Sunday and now I'll freeze!

LMB - I know what you mean about Davina being a bit too davinaish, but I like the fact you can do a 30 min workout, and switch her off! Have done another workout today so I'm feeling really good. I got my race number through for the BHF race in Southampton in May and I'm number 30 which suggests there aren't many people doing it so I have to not finish last!!!

RG - 2 days a week is a nice amount to work - it gives you a bit of time with grown-ups but lots of time with your little one too. I went back 2 days a week after DD and am doing the same in just over 2 weeks.

sparkly - how long are you likely to have be at the hospital for? can you stock up on expressed milk beforehand? hope everything goes well for ds1

DD had an accident at nursery yesterday and fell off a toy truck in the garden. She has a very fat lip, a grazed chin and bruised nose. The staff said she suffered a little bleeding in her mouth but she happily ate her food, including apple so she doesn't seem bothered by it all. I nearly cried when I saw her. She told me she had had a lovely day!! Kids really can shake these things off can't they?! Nusery have got rid of the truck too, they decided it wasn't safe, though I think accidents happen, and if the same had happened at home I probably would have kept it! At least they are being cautious.

Better get dinner on the go - all this exercise has made me hungry!!

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2008 16:26

4-5 days!! If the hospital can't accomdate me I will have to book into a hotel, I don;t know how I will afford it though.. [head hurts at the thought]

RGPargy · 04/04/2008 22:43

Jet - poor DD!!! It's horrible seeing them battered and bruised isn't it!

Yeah 2 days is a nice amount i think, but i'm very worried that i wont be able to express enough milk during the week for two whole day's worth of feeds. It normally takes me 2 days just to get 3 or 4 oz! When i say "days" i mean expressing for 10 mins before the first two feeds of the day. Trying to express any other time just proves fruitless for me. I'm thinking that i'll have to go down the formula route. MIL wants to have DD regularly from now so that DD gets used to being with MIL so i guess i'll have to either get expressing like crazy or give her formula for the day. Does anyone know if this sort of mixed feeding is ok??

OP posts:
fiona76 · 05/04/2008 09:02

RG- I think you will be fine expressing. I was worried about not expressing enough but after 4 days of expressing only 3 ozs per day in the week before I started work I was able to express 5 ozs at each pumping (so 10ozs) when I was at work because it was when I was normally feeding. This was more than enough for Anabel. You will find she won't feed as much as she will wait for you and feed lots in the evening. Its much easier than I thought.

littleoldme · 05/04/2008 09:33

Sparkly - Can't believe how big Casllum is now. you've done an amazing job with him. Hope the hosp mange to sort out some accommadation for you; it's the last thing you need to be thinking about on top of everything else.

Jet At your DD's tumble. I bet you were more traumatised than her.

RG- Sorry the washables didn't work out for you. What's your DS up to these days?

Sarah - Know what you mean about being knackered. When T has a good sleep I wake up anyway, usually in a puddle of milk.

Well I got T weighed yesterday and he's only put on 3 oz in 3 weeks. Before that he managed a pound in a month. Not great. the only reason I'm a bit concerned is c'os he's still got really bad reflux and he's very sleepy. I can't give him Gaviscon c'os he won't take a bottle and it's just too traumatic to give it in a syringe.

I'm ready to start winding down BF so if I can start giving him formula [ LOM waits to be shot at dawn by the breastapo ] he can be be prescribed some stay down stuff that should help.

I got some NUK bottles yesterday and he'll suck on the teat like a dummy but he's not keen on having EBM from it. I've got his number !

Have a gorgeous weekend everyone.

ChocolateHobnob · 05/04/2008 18:40

Hi all

LOM, I bf but am certainly not nazi about it - to each her own, I say, happy mummy happy baby, and specially so when baby has reflux and isn't gaining weight as you'd like. Good luck with introducing the bottle!

Jetgirl, hope DD is okay!

RG, again, up to you, but I have loads of friends who have successfully mixed fed. I know bf councillors tell people not to, but most of my RL friends mix feed and it works fine. Having said that, you might as well try expressing and see how it works...

Anyone bought a highchair yet? any recommendations? I can't decide. DD is 20 weeks and am aiming to wait till she's 26 weeks for solids (she doesnt seem that hungry, so it should be fine, and if she does I'll just bf her more) and I'd like to try baby led weaning possibly.. oh and we're moving probably in June... so after weaning starts... any thoughts anyone has had on highchairs?

Bad night looming for us as DD hasnt slept for 6 hours and is in serious grump mode. We gave her every opportunity (carseat, swing, in daddy's arms) and she rejected every one and kept hurling her dummy across the room. Heigh-ho, fun tonight methinks. Having said that last night was pretty good - she only woke 4 times between 7 30 and 4 am. After 4 she came in with me cos she was just refusing sleep, so not much sleep after that as she gets up at 6 anyway and was dummy throwing before that, but at least before 4 she wasnt up every 45 mins as she has been doing so much!

Hugs to everyone!

SparklyGothKat · 05/04/2008 21:04

had to show you another pic. He looks so chubby!!

Febes · 06/04/2008 16:01

Hi all a new name for me I was getting well bored of the other. Quiet on here today...

RGPargy · 06/04/2008 16:52

Fiona - 5oz at each pumping? Wow!!

I think i might be panicking a bit because by the time i go back to work, Ellie will be almost 7 months so will have started on solids and taking less milk from me anyway (i think!)....

LOM - DS is STILL job hunting, although a lot more actively since we threatened to stop his food!!! Sorry that T is having reflux probs. Are you going to take him to the docs or is there nothing more they can do? I think i kinda know how you feel re breastfeeding. Sometimes i feel ready to give it up too. This morning when i gave Ellie her first feed, however, she decided to give me gorgeous milky grins and coo at me in between mouthfuls which made me think that BF was worth it for that!! However, she does normally just whinge when she comes off until my boob is replaced with a dummy, which is what makes me feel disheartened that she isn't enjoying it! Silly i know.

I expressed this morning (only once) and got 2 1/2 oz in one go, so that's not tooooo bad i spose. I DO think i'm worrying myself into a stupor tho lol.

Choc - Hope you had a good night - how was it?

Haven't bought a highchair yet but have been eyeing them up in Toys R Us. I dont have any recommendations, although i did see a couple of nice Chicco ones. I think the main thing i am looking for is that the tray has smooth lines for ease of cleaning (i.e. no tiny corners or ridges for food to get stuck in), and that it folds up and the seat covers are wipeable too. The Chicco ones i saw were good because they had little storage baskets underneath them. A good idea the highchair is left up all the time.

Febes - Who WERE you?!!
