hey all

woke up to gorgeous thick blanket of snow here, weird, especially as Friday i was bowling about without jumper or coat it was warm and lovely.

Both DS1 and Ollie terribly snotty and i think Ollie might have a bit of glue eye as one eye a bit weepy, still cheerful with it, but Friday night was a bit of a sleepless one [baggy eye emoticon]

Took DS1 and Ollie toddler bowling on Fri morning, DS1 seemed to like it, i had Ollie in baby carrier strapped to my front, i even managed to BF him sitting besides the bowling lane without any faff and so discreetly even i didn't know i was doing it, he did later however throw it all up, i think perhaps due to me joggling him about too much in carrier poor little ollie

RG - loads of peeps mix BF and FF without any hassles, how long are you planning on BF for ?

LOM - we got a high chair from Ikea for DS1 and will re-use it for Ollie, its brilliant, the legs come off really easily for transport, and its dead easy to clean and it only cost around £15, wld recommend

Haven't heard from This charming mum recently, could it be the mysterious Febes ?

oh by the way - we got the glasto tix after mad scamble this am, apparently however they are still up for sale this eve, oh well couldn't of missed the excitment of getting them first thing

bon nuit mon petit pois

Hi all haven't been on for a while. Busy week. I'm soo tired. I was explaing at one of my groups how ds has been on 2 hour night feeds and 1/2 hourly/hourly evening feeds for 4 weeks. He shows an interest in food (trys to nick my dinner off the plate!) And the H/V suggested I should start weaning as he's showing interest and not showing any signs of slowing down.

I explained how i wanted to go ahead with BLW, no mush or baby rice and they said to start now and see how it goes. So we Brought the Chicco high chair. I would reconmend it RG, Its ment from 6mths up. But Coby is nearly 18lb! He's happy sitting in it as he's a good sitter.
On Friday we tried boiled carrot stick- went down so-so he picked them up and sucked and dropped most of them thats all, no real eating. Saturday we tried carrots again, brocoli and roast pepper. Still not really up for the carrot or brocolli but he ate all the pepper!
Today I got him some apricot rusks and he couldn't get enough of them! Today he really knew the difference between food and a toy saw it and it went straight in the mouth! He dropped it at one point and he got really upset we had to give him another one quick!

I'm really happy he's enjoying the food and feeding himself! His hand to mouth co-ordination has improved so much in just three days of him trying the food! So i'm sure his ready or he wouldn't eat it!

Now just hoping the night feeds start to improve over the next few weeks as he start to eat more!

SparklyGothKat · 06/04/2008 20:48

we have the Chicco polly highchair, I love it! Callum sits beautifully in it and eats with us at the table. Tonight he had a roast dinner lol, we haven't actually started with BLW, he has to have it mushed down, but he was ready, at 6 1/2 months

Febes · 06/04/2008 20:51

Highchairs- My mum has had replicas made beautiful hgh chair my nana has for me and my sister. You have to strap them in or push up to the table but it lovely. I'll get mum to email a picture of it. Thats in NZ though while we are still here we have a freebie DH got from a job its sloid with straps and tray and quite nice might keep it when we go back home.

Have you worked out who I am yet??

Evening all! It's been busy on here tonight! Very much like the old days!

Lizzie - well done on BF whilst bowling! Shame he threw up tho, poor thing! I intend to BF until DD is 6 months so by the time i go back to work at the end of July, she'll be almost 7 months anyway. I reckon that if she's on formula at 6 months, i would at least have reached my personal goal of BF til 6 months so i really shouldn't worry! Well done on gettingh Glasto tickets! Such a buzz trying to get them isn't it!

Where IS Choudru/Charming Mum??

LMB - that's really interesting about DS doing BLW. I quite often wonder if DD is ready for food too because she's still feeding mostly every 3 hours, with the biggest break of about 5 hours through the night and whenever we eat or drink anything she watches what we're doing like a HAWK, and mostly kicks up because of the fact that we're eating and she isn't! Do you think i should try her on BLW too?

Loopy - so sorry you have been ill again. Hope you get some adequate rest to build up your immune system again. You are lucky not to have to think about going back to work. I really dont want to go but we seriously need the money so i dont really have a choice Thankfully i have most of the summer left tho and dont have to think about work until end of July.

Sam - I suppose 2 1/2 oz is ok but i really want more!! Good luck with your driving test! When is it, exactly?

Sparkly - think i will probably go for a chicco as they look really nice and practical.

Febes - well done on the new name.

Right, i'm off to bed. Was meant to be going at 9.30 but we got waylayed. Oh well!!

N'night everyone!

Rg, I noticed that Asda had the happy snack chicco for sale, I think it was about £40. I have the Polly version which is better because you can adjust the height and the seat reclines too, I got mine on ebay for £30.

RGPargy · 07/04/2008 08:39

Thanx Sparkly.

I've been watching the news about Shannon Matthews mum being arrested now. That poor girl it sounds like a twisted story.

RGPargy · 07/04/2008 09:15

Shocking isn't it. the poor girl.

OP posts:
sarahloumadam · 07/04/2008 10:08

Mmm I wondered what was up when she didn't go straight back home. Hope she is ok, poor girl.

Glad we have started talking about weaning again because I have been looking into BLW and it seems to make perfect sense but I am interested how it works in practice. Don't think Adam is going to be a fussy eater LOL. He still feeds every 2/3 hours during the day but sometimes only for 5 mins. He regularly goes for 8 hours over night now (not that I really benefit because I still go to bed late!). Will try BLW at 6 months and see how we get on.

RG - ikwym re expressing although I think 2.5ozs sounds ok! Anyway, I never really took to it but gave up completely since Adam would never deign to take a bottle and I ended up chucking it away anyway. Going to try him on a cup soon so will have to dust the old pump off!

Febes - I know who you are !

Lizzie - I hate it when they chuck it back up - seems like such a waste! I have had several unpleasant down the cleavage experiences recently, he has got it timed to perfection and never sicks up on his muslin. Bet he was fascinated with the bowling tho?

Sam - my brain is long gone, don't worry you are not the only one. Good luck with the driving test!

SGK - he is looking positively chunky these days, you are v.good at growing babies!

LittleMissBliss · 07/04/2008 10:24

RG- If you want to go ahead with BLW don't see why you can't try now! Because it's the baby that's doing the feeding they'll let you know when they're ready! It also takes a few days for them to get the hang of it, and allot of it ends up on the floor!

What i've learnt so far is, not to try too soon after a feed, or too close to feed being needed. And when ds is allert. Also the temptation to feed them is huge, but you have to let them do it themselves. I do put the food in ds hand to start with (like i would with a rattle) and if he drops it he has to pick a new one from his tray!

Boiled veg doen't seem to be going down well (i'm not much of a fan eaither so can see why!) Roast veg is a hit, i think beacuse its sweeter and very soft. I'm going to roast some carrots today for him. They're delicous!

Hope you have a lovely day today!

RGPargy · 07/04/2008 11:40

lol i just tried Ellie with a bit of steamed carrot and broccolli. She wasn't too impressed with either!

Good Morning -well afternoon!!
It's our 5 year anniversary tomorrow and I'm planning an italian feast as we both love italian food and wine. I'm going to raid a posh italian deli for antipasto and cook something yummy so need to start thinking easy things any ideas?? I might post on food thread as well.

RG - as fiona says you'll be fine expressing, I try to do a bit each day, which has been difficult as William has been having a lot of night feeds recently, but it means I have a stash in the freezer so that he's got some when I go back to work, and then I'll have enough to express at work. Having said that, when I went back to work after DD was born I expressed for 3 months then put her on formula for nursery days when she was 8 months, but still breastfed at home, it was just so much easier, and she was on solids then too so I figured her digestive system was able to cope with it. She was fine with it.

LMB - sounds like the BLW is going well for you. I hadn't really heard of it when I had DD and went down the baby rice, mashed veg route, which seemed to work well for her. She loves her veg - in particular broccoli! We steam instead of boil as the food retains more flavour - like it does when you roast it. Annabel karmel has some yummy recipes, her scrambled egg with cheese and tomato is one of my faves!! William isn't sitting brilliantly yet so we're holding off introducing food to him for a bit.

William's christening was lovely yesterday. he looked gorgeous in the family gown - it's over 70 years old, and my dad did a lovely service. Despite the snow everyone made it, my brother drove from Plymouth for the day and my uncle from Liverpool. I'll try and add a pic to my profile in a bit.

jetgirl · 07/04/2008 13:32

pic added

sarahloumadam · 07/04/2008 15:23

What a beautiful gown Jetgirl (and a beautiful boy!). Glad you had a good day, hope you didn't freeze too much in your summery outfit?

Loopy - sorry didn't mean to gloat, he goes down between 7 and 8 and usually wakes up around 3/4 for a feed although he sometimes wakes up when we go to bed as DH is so flaming noisy . But unless I went to bed at the same time as DS I don't really get benefit iyswim but I do get some of the evening to myself which is fab. Just re-read your entry - that was a crap night, do you get any sleep during the day? Probably not with 3 children?! I'll shut right up now!

Right, at risk of sounding v.thick - when I return to work in August could I put Adam on bottles/cups of formula Mon, Tues, Wed when in child care and bfeed at all other times? Is this what is meant by mixed feeding? How will my milk supply stay steady? Expressing at work?Don't fancy that, they will probably stick me in a dusty cupboard somewhere!

Bought Adam a bouncy door thing today and he doesn't "get" it. He just twirled around very slowly on one toe!! Lazy boy!

LOL RG - Ellie would probably prefer a Club biscuit and a nice cup of tea .

RGPargy · 07/04/2008 16:11

Febes - happy anniversary for tomorrow! No ideas tho i'm afraid!

Jet - lovely pic! He looks so sweet!

Sarah - yes, i dont doubt it! lol. I'm going to be buying Ellie a bouncy door thing soon too. I bet she will be the same coz i think they take a while for it to click into place.

Think i might give up BF soon. I've made a post in breast/bottle feeding forum. Please let me know your opinions, my head is such a mess!

Febes · 07/04/2008 16:48

Well I've been shopping and I got antipasto stuff meat, stuffed peppers and sundried tomatoes with ciabatta, then chicken parmesan with salad and tiramasu for pud. I've never made them before so hopefully they will be ok. I even got italian sparking wine so that should get us in the zone.

Jet - Gorgeous christening gown we had Anabel christened in NZ with her great grannys gown made by her great great granny in 1923. Its nice to have things like that isn't it.

Loopy- Being home for your girls is better than holidays I'm definately not going back to work after DC2 when ever he or she comes along. We will just have to miss out on new cars and fancy hols not a bad compromise IMO.

littleoldme · 07/04/2008 18:30

Choc- I'm with you on the happy mum, happy baby thing.

Febes - Have a top night. can I come too, sounds tasty. BTW when we were in Nz we had some fizzy drink that I think began P and I think was in a yellow tin. You can only get it in NZ and I can't remember the name. Do you know what i am talking about or am i going bonkers!

Loopy - being ill and having bad nights ! poor you. I'm sending all of your dds sleepy vibes.

RG - Charming is fine, she's just having a bit of a rough week.

Sarah - T hasn't quite got the hang of his bouncer yet either. He just sort of flops in it.

Jet - What a gorgeous gown. It must be lovely to have a heirloom like that.

V IMPORTANT !!! A good friend of mine had a fire on Saturday. They had left their daughters highchair tray on the hob which hadn't been switched off properly. Fortunately the smoke alarms woke them up and they are all safe.

If you call your local fire station they will come round and do a fire saftey assessment, fit smoke alarms in the right places and talk you through an evacuation procedure. It's free as well. Here endeth the lesson.
