Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RGPargy · 25/03/2008 13:08

Afternoon ladies.

I'm feeling really really fed up today. For the second night in a row Ellie's sleeping pattern has just gone up the spout and i'm feeling knackered and tearful! Last night i put her to bed at 8pm and we dummy issues for the next two hours. After that she woke up at 3.10am so i fed her and she decided to finally go back to sleep again at 4.20am, after much dummy re-inserting and me sitting on the edge of my bed just waiting for her to kick off again. It was particularly horrible because i'd just changed the bed clothes and they are my super cozy covers so it was like insult to injury that i didn't actually get to sleep in them hardly! She's been quite grizzly today so far too and i've had to just leave her crying in her chair a couple of times just so that i can actually make a cup of tea!!! I was seriously thinking about sticking her on formula last night in the midst of my sleepiness, just so that i can sleep through the night for the first time in over a year!! Chances are tho, it might not actually work and we'll be back to where we started and then i'll regret giving up BF etc etc etc.

Anyway, sorry, rant over.

With regard to teh sofa thing - Ellie sleeps on her back without cushions etc and the sofa is leather so she wont get overheated on it. I think when she is able to move from back to front etc then i'll probably stick her up in her cot to sleep but for now, whenever she's asleep at one end of the sofa, i'm normally at the other end or at the very least pottering around nearby and constantly checking her.

Bumbos - aren't you worried that they'll lean forward in them and topple out? Particularly if they are on the kitchen work top? I'd be petrified! I dont know how stable they are as i dont have one and haven't seen one in the flesh or anything.

Fiona - hope DD manages to get her body clock back in sync!

Lizzie - What a nightmare doing show rounds over Easter when all you want to do is chill out! The braids are out already because they only last between 4 and 6 weeks, after which time they start to look scruffy etc. Ellie didn't really pull them or anything as i made sure they were out of reach as much as possible! They were really irritating me this time around so i thought i'd take the opportunity of a long weekend to take them out and let my scalp recover a bit as i have an appointment for a cut and colour on Thursday! Yay!! Haven't had my hair cut since i was pg so it's been a very long while!

Jet - enjoy your hairdresser's appointment next Tuesday!! I have to make sure i have enough of mummy's best expressed for my appointment or i wont be going at all but at the moment i'm too stressed to even think about expressing! Hope you find a nice outfit for the christening.

Right, i'm going to try and chill out for a bit. Catch you later ladies

Rg - No, you are right t, their bums don't stay fluffy. If you are thinking of investing try looking at usednappies.co.uk.It's an auction site dedicated to second real nappies, it was set up when ebay stop allowing their sale. It isn't that well known yet so it's easy to get bargains.
I do tend to put Ds in next size up bottoms to get over the nappies. I find dungarees work well.
Have you looked at Motheresae airflow wraps? They are fab and have cute designs on them.

Lizzie - glad you had a good night with Ollie. what a star.

Pixie - Yeah , there's tonnes of exceptions as with every other rule in English. Must be a nightmare to learn as a foreign language,

Fiona- Glad you enjoyed NZ. Whreabouts are you planning on living?

LittleMissBliss · 25/03/2008 14:34

We have a bumbo too, a friend lent it to us i'd never really seen one before. Coby looks really sweet sitting in it, like an old man in an armchair! I think he enjoys sitting in there as it makes a change from his mat. Rg- i don't think it's possible to topple them the way they are designed.

Easter was ok didn't see much of dp as he's always working. I was a little annoyed as i was looking forward to the long weekend with him. But he's now promised we'll do something nice as a family on Saturday.

I think the teeth are def coming through now as i've got a very grizzly, clingy baby. He's also sleeping allot.

Thankyou for confirming the 'weird' thing for me!

RG- hope your having a restful day today i really do know how it feels. I've had some really sucky tired days recently. Poor DP i'm such a stressy cow!

LizzieO · 25/03/2008 15:15

Hi again

wow look at me posting twice in the same day....Ollie has gone down for second nap today, he was quite grizzly i think all the visitors yesterdayt knackered him

RG - sorry you had such a crappy night, its horrible isn't it , the lack of sleep is like some kind of torture and then they have the cheek to just drop off all serenly during the day when your absolutley knackered but can't grab a sleep. I was wondering if there was some kind of thing you could do when you haven't had a proper rest, but i guess just sitting down and chilling is the next best thing, those 5 o'clcok starts with Ollie killed me last week, and i ended up rowing with DH on the Sunday cos i told him it was his turn with the baby, (mind this was at 6.30 and i had already been up BF, so it could of been worse) anyway he was all grumpy about it so i told him to F** off twice....oh dear

re: Bumbos there aint no way they're toppling out of those they are like big rubber armchairs, i am going to post a pic up of Ollie in his looking cute but very worried

Ollie has been dribbling and gnawing his hands and had red cheeks for a couple of weeks but still no teeth, though they are looking like they are closer to the surface

jetgirl · 25/03/2008 16:27

Well, the freezer repair man has told me I need a new fridge freeze so I've had to buy another one, at lest it arrives tomorrow! Very annoyed as it was only 4 years old. When it broke I had to throw out a few things, wasn't that bothered except for the breastmilk which felt like such a waste.
Am also annoyed as I thought I'd found a lovely outfit for the christening, but it turns out it's petite, which I ain't!

RG - William was the same a fortnight ago, I sympathise with you. I fully understand why sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture now I've had children!

LOM and Pixie - as another teacher I actually teach English as if it's a foreign language, but that's maybe because I also teach Latin!

RGPargy · 25/03/2008 21:04

LOM - Thanx for the link and the tips. I'll look into them! Dont think i'll invest just yet tho because i've been lent some so i'll use them for now and see how i get on. I'll report back in a couple of days!

DP likes the look of the bumbo chair so watch this space for that too. I think Ellie will quite like sitting up like that because she really does get bored laying down all the time!

LMB - My day hasn't been restful unfortunately lol. Ellie has been grizzly and clingy all day and i'm exhausted!

Lizzie - Sorry you had a crap week too last week and i hope you made it up to DH! Where's the pic of Ollie then?? Ellie also has been chewing and dribbling for a good couple of weeks but no teeth yet!

Jet - bummer re your freezer, but what a great excuse to get something new!

I'm going to be very sad and go to bed very soon just to hopefully catch up on some sleep. I've got my Wednesday lunch with the girls tomorrow so i dont want to be a grump for the day!

Have a nice evening everyone!

Night! x

we havea bumbo too, a kind mnetter sent me it when I was first pregnant. Callum has a tiny tooth popping up now, I can just feel it coming up.
Callum is now sleeping from 10-8!!! clever boy.

sarahloumadam · 26/03/2008 07:58

Sparkly!

RG - I really sympathise, I have had a crap couple of days feeling really tired because I have a cold that I just can't shake. Adam now goes to sleep around 7 (dream feed around 11) but when he wakes at 3 for a feed he is wiiide awake and ready to play! And it takes me at least an hour to persuade him to go back to sleep. And tiredness affects everything else too (sorry for starting sentences with "and" all you English teachers!) so I feel less able to cope when he starts wittering during the day or when we are out and about. I hope you had a better night last night and have a lovely lunch with your girlfriends today.

Googled bumbos and they look great! Might invest. Makes a change from the chair-rug-gym rotation! He was sitting up by himself on my lap last night but think he was aided by my breast-feeding cushion.

LizzieO and LMB - think all the DHs/DPs are copping for it at the mo.Had v.dramatic row with DH when my parents were here (not in their earshot). My mum and dad had messed up something DH was recording on Skyplus (oh my god the sky is falling in!) and I told DH to deal with it and he said f* you!! He apologised straight away and we had to laugh. DH also bought a nintendo wii and now spends all his time moaning that I won't play on it but the last thing I feel like doing when I have just got the LO settled is leaping about the living room playing virtual tennis!

Right, on a mission this morning to get into town for around 10 and buy Adam some new clothes. 6-9 months! Ridiculous.

ChocolateHobnob · 26/03/2008 09:11

Sarah, yoga isn't for me, but for lo! I think it's different from what you're describing - we sing little songs like in massage, and do lots of swings and wiggles of the los legs and arms, and it's very congenial and then we all have coffee and Kitkats! Not very slimline but much fun and it tires the los out so they sleep a bit after!

I'm with all the sleep deprived posters... no better here, either.

Oh and I'm now worrying about my pram, which is about to become too small in pram mode, ie in carrycot facing me, but in pushchair mode lo will face out and I don't like that idea! what are you all doing about that? or do you have reversible pushchairs?

Off to meet a friend for the day - have fun, all...

LizzieO · 26/03/2008 09:11

hey all

a quick post whilst i can get it in, have been awake since 5.30am so feel like i have already have been up half the day
sigghhhhhhhh........Ollie was up for feed at 2.30am so was therefore up again at 5.30, i'm going to get a black out curtain today to see if it makes the slightest bit of difference, i fear not.....i feel ok now but i know i am going to be a tired moody cow in a couple of hours

RG - I hope you had a better night last night and that you have a lovely lunch,

Saralou - yep your right, unfortunately the DP/DH do get it in the neck, but i must say that DH is very supportive

SGK - well done now you are getting some well deserved rest after all the weeks of night feeding etc

Loopy - i forgot to mention DS is now going thru his second intensive why stage, it almost becomes a competition to see how many consecutive whys u can answer before being totally stumped, oh yes and he now also has a obsession with people dying and will suddenly and randomly say, I don;t wnat you to die, I don't want Grandma to die, and he is also obsessed with holes in the body and blood

nice !

SparklyGothKat · 26/03/2008 09:23

Callum is 6 months old now so I defo. deserve sleeeeeeeppp!! I put him down at 10pm last night and he is still asleep!!! I was scared to go into his room

fiona76 · 26/03/2008 10:32

Morning!!

Lizzie I've been up since 5.30 too and DD feed at 2.30 so I feel your pain. Although I'm way more awake today mornings are best its the evenings when I'm dead on my feet.

Choc- I have just started putting DD in the push chair part of my buggy so is now out facing and I miss being able to see her as we walk along. Wish I'd got a reverisble but the ones I liked were really expensive so I'll just have to get over it.

I'm off to meet up with my antenatal girls this morning so looking forward to seeing how the Los have grown. I've started expressing ready for work next week. I got 120mls yesterday and 100mls so far today. I'm going to try to get 150mls each day- does that sound ok LMB? I'm not sure how much she will want at each feed but thought that 150ml could be a good start. I hope the expressing will get easier as its a real faff so far but I really want to keep exclusively BFing so I'll have to just keep at it. I need to talk to work about a place to express as well.

jetgirl · 26/03/2008 13:22

fiona - sounds like a good amount of milk. You will get loads when you're at work too, I never worried that i wasn't going to be able to give DD enough to take to nursery with her. Work are legally obliged to provide you with facilities to express and store milk. The facilities should be clean - not toilets - and private. My boss is organising facilities for when I return too. How do you feel about going back?

sparkly - yes, you definitely deserve sleep, well done Callum!

Lizzie - I am still waiting for DD to hit the why stage, at the moment it's always 'What's he doing? What are you doing?' etc

My new fridge-freezer arrives in a couple of hours so I can start restocking the breastmilk!

LittleMissBliss · 26/03/2008 15:23

Fiona- Hope you had a lovely time with your antenatal girls! Here's a good link that's worth a read, regarding how much expressed milk a baby will need in a day Kellymom is like my breastfeeding bible!

Sparkly i oh so can't wait till Coby is sleeping through 10-8 sounds like pure bliss. But i must not complain. I'm in awe at all you mums with more than one, how you manage to stay sane is beyond me!

Choc- I chose my travel system because it's reversible, which is great because i get to have chats with ds now. But when he gets older and grows bored of seeing his mummy he can face the other way!

A lovely friends and her dp came to visit today and i think i made her all broody. her dp was so lovely with ds. sighhhhh....

fiona76 · 26/03/2008 16:22

LMB- Thanks so much for that link. What a great web site!! I feel much more confident about it all now. i was worried I wasn't pumping enough but it sounds like I'm pretty normal. I'll try to encourage her to reverse cycle and wait for me. I should be home at 4.15 on 2 of the days and 5 on 1 of the days so not too long.
Jet- I'm feeling ok about it. Its not for ever I go back for next term and then its 6 week summer holiday and then the first half of autumn term and then we are moving to NZ so I'll be a full time mum again and hopefully preggie with number 2 . So there is light at the end of the tunnel and DH is daddy day care so he is really looking forward to that. I love my job too so I'm sure it will all work out well.

LizzieO · 26/03/2008 17:27

LMB - thats a very useful link, when i express i often only express around 90ml which is about 3 oz, and worried about how much Ollie was getting when feeding, because formula fed babies have a lot more don't they,

From other comments on here it would seem that around 3 oz is the norm though wouldn't it

fiona - how do you express, i have an avent hand pump which is great, although having said that i haven't expressed for a while because Ollie was refusing the bottle, i now have sipper cup for him which he will take water from so may try giving it to him in that, but TBH i am still BF around 8 times in 24 hours so i need to drop one of these if i am expecting to wean him off the breast

LittleMissBliss · 26/03/2008 18:04

Formula fed babies take allot more, Coby will only take around 3oz too. I find it funny when i see mums giving their babies 6 or 7 oz bottles just can't see how it all fits in their little tummies!

I use a hand pump too but haven't for ages because i'm lazy! I really should because Coby can become a bottle sherker if he hasn't had a EBM for a while.

LittleMissBliss · 26/03/2008 18:08

Just wondering if anybody elses baby is sudenly getting a big regrowth of hair?

After lots of hair rubbing off hair it seems that the hair on his bold patches as well as on the top of his head is growing before my eyes. Each morning i can really notice a big difference. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a full head in a week or so!

grrrrrrrrrrr my computer keeps double posting. Its so annoying. I do appologise.

fiona76 · 26/03/2008 18:47

Lizzie- I use the advent isis hand pump as well and it seems to work ok. I hadan electric one boots own brand which didn't work for me at all so i bought this one on ebay and it is much better.

LMB- I did notice a few weeks ago that DDs hair was almost growing before my eyes but it hasn't grown again in a while so maybe it also has growth spurts.

RGPargy · 26/03/2008 22:26

Evening ladies.

Had a slightly better night last night. I was in bed by just gone 9pm and Ellie had two dummy issues between 9 and 10pm, which DP dealt with. She then didn't wake up til 3.50am but then proceeded to take 1.5 hours to go back to sleep again! I ended up swaddling her, which she hasn't responded to before, but this time it actually worked - i dont know why i didn't think of it sooner! It certainly stopped her scratching and raking at her face and keeping her awake! She then went back to sleep from 5.20 til 7am, so not too bad.

I had a lovely day with the girls - they are a real tonic, i tell you!

Today i received a letter through the post from someone who worked at the centre where my old baby massage group was. One of the girls who i'd given my number to had contacted the centre and asked them to pass on her number to me as she'd lost mine. And there was me thinking that she'd only taken my number to be polite! I was very touched that she'd make such an effort to get in touch! Brilliant! Hopefully we'll meet up soon and it'll be great to catch up.

Sparkly - What a good boy Callum is!

Sarah - I put Ellie down at about 8pm-ish but i dont bother to dream feed her because most nights (famous last words!) she sleeps through til 3am anyway, with or without a dream feed so not much point in doing one really! But i agree that sleep deprivation can really take it out of you and totally change how you react to other things in the day. It's great that Adam is sort of sitting up by himself already! Ellie is still very floppy and just kinda doubles over if you try and get her to sit on her own lol.

Choc - Sorry you are also sleep deprived! I have a forward facing pushchair too. I really wanted a reversible one but as Fiona said, they are soooo expensive!! Thankfully, the hood of my pushchair has a little clear plastic window on the top so i can keen an eye on her. The only time i can have her facing towards me is if she's in the car seat on the pushchair with the attachment, but that makes it alot more bulky and heavier to handle! I would love to just watch Ellie as i pushed her but mummy's jiggling and wobbly body isn't much of an interesting view really is it?! Hope you had a good day with you friend.

Lizzie and Fiona - I feel your pain!! All us sleep deprivees should create a Matchstick Club!

Fiona - Are you getting 120mls in one sitting of expressing or is that over a few times? Whenever i express it sometimes takes me at least two days to get just over 3oz!! It all depends on the time of day i express tho. I also have an Avent Isis manual and it's fine for my occasional pumping. Hope you enjoyed your meet! Wednesday sounds like a meet day for everyone!

Jet - How is the fridge freezer?

LMB - Yes, Ellie's hair has just started to regrow on her bald bits. Cant wait for it all to grow back coz she lost it in the early days and i dont think i can remember what she looks like with a full head of hair! I'm also finding hair on her sheets in the morning.

Off to bed soon. Have a nice evening ladies!

Have a good day everyone x
