Sorry you had a pants night too Sarah. Hope little AJ feels better soon. I'm the same as you re BF in public. I get all hot and bothered and go bright red too lol.

Well done RG on the bf and washables! very of one poo a week. William is 2 or 3 a day, but the nappies wash very easily so it's really no bother, honestly!

Loopy - have a lovely day on Sunday, please post a piccy if you can!

We're off for the weekend so William is in disposables - a washing free weekend, hooray! Have a chocolate filled Easter everyone xx

Just realised that I only gave Adam 0.5ml of Medised instead of 5mls! No wonder it didn't have any effect!

RGPargy · 21/03/2008 14:43

PMSL Sarah!!!

sarahloumadam · 21/03/2008 19:55

At least it wasn't an over-dose! It was 3 o'clock in the morning. Just gone straight down little angel (and that is without Medised).

RGPargy · 21/03/2008 21:40

awww bless him. Ellie has finally gone off after much face raking and pinning down of arms lol.

ChocolateHobnob · 22/03/2008 07:52

RG, does Ellie fuss with her arms too then?!

Sarah, in reply to a question you asked a while ago, DD does go down awake at night. That is mainly because she never, ever goes to sleep while feeding, or at least if she does she wakes up when transferred to bed. I accept she may be odd! Anyway it was hard work when we set up the routine but honestly it worked fast: we have nappy off time and play, then bath, then sleepsuit on, then feed, then we cuddle her and then lay her awake in her bed and play her dreamshow, and she goes to sleep. We have to be there, stroking her and ssshing her, but she does go off. Sometimes it only takes a minute, sometimes up to 30 mins, but she does go to sleep alone.
Sadly she doesnt STAY asleep, so here endeth my lesson in sleep training!!!

Feeding in public: I'm shameless now tbh. What helps IMO is the following: easy access clothes (loose vest under cardi works well), a pram plonked sort of in the way so most people cant even see properly, and a noisy coffee shop. But the pram plonked in the way works when you first try it...

Hope you all had better nights sleep than me - mine was crap, thanks to a certain girlie...

RGPargy · 22/03/2008 11:57

Choc - Yeah she does fuss with her arms, but only mainly at night in her cot when it's bedtime lol. Her left hand rubs her eyes and her right hand rubs her mouth - hence knocking out the dummy all the time. So now i've devised a plan whereby if i put her down awake or semi-awake i have to stand over the cot and literally pin her right hand down (gently of course!!) so that she doesn't rake at her face. When i've done this, her left hand just goes to the back of her head and she plays with her hair, bless her!!

I also forgot to answer Sarah's question. Yes, Ellie does go into her cot awake most nights and does go off to sleep. Sometimes she'll need arm pinning, other times she wont (but she mostly DOES).

Good for you for being shameless in public Choc!! I wish i were as brave!

What are you all up to today? Not up to much today, might go to the pub later.

Have a good day all!

Have just put a pic of dd2 on my profile today.

Dd1 is poorly so can't stay on here

SparklyGothKat · 22/03/2008 18:41

Hi, all!! We are back from vistiting family in manchester. Callum had his first taste of food while away. He had rice pudding and yogert (sp?) He loved it and made little noises the whole time he was eating it

RGPargy · 22/03/2008 20:09

Pixie - What an absolutely gorgeous girl!

Sparkly - awww how exciting!!

fiona76 · 23/03/2008 10:39

Hi everyone happy easter!!
We arrived back last night so feeling very sluggish. DD woke at 2.30am and then slept for 2 hours from 5 till 7 I just got her back off to sleep again. Poor thing she has been to the other side of the world and back so she is coping well considering. Its so cold here!!! Whats going on? Everything looks grim and grey- Ahhh the holiday hang over. We have decided that we will finish up here this year sell up and work out my maternity leave and then we will go back for good. I can't wait its so nice being close to family and everything is so clean and beautiful.

Speaking of BFIP I had to let go of discretion on the plane as DD needed lots of feeding and its very difficult getting out the G cups in those cramped seats. Had to just get over it though.

fiona76 · 23/03/2008 10:41

BTW has anyone used calpol night time. DD hates it and I had a taste and its horrid. How do you get it down there throats?? Hers always goes all over her face and clothes- sticky

sarahloumadam · 23/03/2008 14:17

Fiona - I use a squirty pipette thing and gently squirt it in his mouth, he still manages to spit some out but not as much as when using a spoon! I haven't tasted Calpol but tasted Medised and it is really bitter, no wonder he pulls funny faces. If you can time it for when they are hungry too it usually works better . Wow you must be soooo excited about moving to NZ!

Pixie - just gorgeous!

RG & Choc - thanks for answering my question re going to sleep. Adam always falls asleep when feeding without fail so hard to put him down awake unless I wake him up again which seems counter-productive iyswim. I might start putting him down awake during the day when he is ready for a nap as I think he is getting a bit too reliant on mummy cuddles for sleep and he is not getting any lighter!

Well I am knackered, had SIL and her husband down last night and didn't go to bed until 2 and then Adam woke at 4 and 7 for a feed! Own fault. Looking forward to my lamb dinner and easter egg later yum yum .

littleoldme · 24/03/2008 20:37

Hello all. Thought it was about time I caught up. All is well in the LOM household. DS summitted his first lakeland fell yesterday - . It was only a little hill but an adventure nontheless.

LMB > the rule to remember is ; i before e execpt after c and execpt in weird which is weird.

RG - well done on the nappies. I love my babybeehinds - I'm a complete convert and they look sooo cute with their little fluffy bums. And good o yer for bfip. Hope the sleep improves.

Fiona - I put his dummy in, take it out again, quickly squirt the calpol in with a syringe and hastily stuff the dummy back in. That way he swallows it as he sucks the dummy. Works with norks when Bf as well.

Sarah - hope you enjoyed dins

I've updated my pics for anyone whos intrested

littleoldme · 24/03/2008 20:39

Also, it's important to remember to spell except properly x a trillion

RGPargy · 24/03/2008 22:12

Fiona - Hope you are feeling more alert now. What a come down having to come back to the UK!! Haven't used Calpol night time i'm afraid but Ellie loves her ordinary Calpol which she takes from a brilliant little syringe i found in my local chemist that has a teat on the end so she just sucks it out herself. I use it for her gripe water too - very handy!

Sarah - I'm paranoid about Ellie getting reliant on me for mummacuds too for sleepage so i try and put her down when she's not quite asleep but very dozy, just so that she knows where she is and that it's bedtime etc. I do the same when she has her daytime nap on the sofa, except that she's more awake when i put her down then. BTW, is it bad for her to sleep on the sofa?? The sofa is leather and i lay her on her blanket first but i'm sure i read somewhere (probably here!) that it was not a good thing to do?? Not sure if i can be bothered with running up and down the stairs to her bedroom for the duration of her nap to deal with dummy issues!! Hope you enjoyed your dinner and egg!

LOM - DS is GORGEOUS!! He looks very cosy in the carrier!! You'll make a rambler out of him yet! One thing i wanted to know re cloth nappies - do you have to buy next size up clothes to compensate for the bulkiness of them?? Also, how can they be fluffy if you have to put those plastic pant things over the top? Shame about that isn't it, but obviously it's necessary!

Right well i best be off. I'm off to bed for a reasonably early night in the hope that DD will sleep through (pah!!). Last night she slept from 10pm til 5.50am, but i was up til 2am taking my braids out () so i didn't benefit at all! I think she can only manage to go about six hours in total before she wakes up demanding attention.

Incidentally, does anyone know if colic and bad wind etc discontinue once you start weaning? I'm not plannign on weaning her yet, obv, but just wanted to know that there is an end to all these tummy aches once she starts getting some food inside her! She doesn't suffer as bad as she did, but if i dont infacol or gripe her, she'll get pains!

Right, i'm really off this time. N'night all!

RG- I think it clears up at about this age.

LOM- there are also other exceptions to the i before e rule- Eight being one- I can't remember the ditty now but there's soemthing about an eight foot man.

I have got dd2 a Bumbo- its lovely and very handy for propping her up in particularly as I can't have her on the floor like I did with dd1

ChocolateHobnob · 25/03/2008 09:33

Pixie, we've got a Bumbo too - my mum thinks it looks like a pink potty!!! It's v useful though...

We went swimming again yesterday. The pool is new (opened last year) and clean, which makes it nicer. R didnt quite know what to make of it to start with then she liked it!

Off to baby yoga today, which I recommend if anyone has chance to go to it...

RG, the sofa isnt recommended I think in case the baby falls off or suffocates in stuffed cushions... but if you're watching Ellie then it's fine, I'm sure.

Fiona bet it's weird being back in winter wonderland England!

hope you're all okay...

fiona76 · 25/03/2008 09:54

Morning!! We're all starting to feel more normal and less zombie now but still waking at 2am ready to start the day. DD is tired she just poked herself in the eye while I was feeding her and then screamed blue murder. Last night we were trying to keep her awake till 7ish so she readjusts her body clock and she fell asleep under her play gym while I wa cooking tea. Poor darling.

RG -I'm sure its fine to sleep her on the sofa during the day as long as you are close by when she starts wriggling. I wish Anabel would sleep down stairs but she needs to be in a quiet place or on the move to sleep. I get a bit of a work out going up and down the stairs.

Choc- Sounds like you are having an active week. I took DD swimming in NZ and she wasn't sure what was going on but she liked it I think. We were outdoors so she had a rash suit and sun hat and looked so cute. Must take her again.

LOM- I've used that method with the calpol and it makes my boob all sticky we are getting better at it though. She has her second set of jabs on friday so will need some ready for then.

sarahloumadam · 25/03/2008 10:16

Morning all!

Chocolate - I am thinking about going to baby yoga and I know I sound v.dim but what exactly does it involve - how is the baby involved?! Heard that you use the baby as a weight in which case I will get a very good workout! There is a session on this Thursday so if we are both over our cold I might go.

RG - don't even know why I said that about sleep during the day because he often falls asleep in his bouncy chair or I put him in his cot and he goes to sleep! Brain = mush still . Seems that it is only at night time that he is reliant on my bosom. We sometimes put Adam on sofa to sleep if we are having our tea, think it is fine so long as you are around.

LOM - great photos of your gorgeous little man, and your baby is cute too .

LizzieO · 25/03/2008 11:02

Hey all

hope you all had good easters !!!! ours was great but v busy, looking at new houses as well as having viewings at ours so having to keep the house tidy (though this often entails throwing things into cupboards and hiding things behind sofa LOL)

DS had Easter egg hunt at MIL his little face was a picture a he went round collecting them all, he ended up with a bucket full of choc, so will be eating eggs from now until Xmas

Ollie doing well, will get him weighed this pm, still BF him, and he has 3 little meals a day, still not going through the night, and had been waking at 5.30ish and then i would have to take him downstairs so he wouldn't wake DS (anyones elses baby really noisy ) anyhoo last night i dream fed him at 10.0, then he woke for usual for his 4 am feed and then slept till nearly 7 whoo hoo !!!!!

Saralou - we have always put Ollie down awake, at first we were putting him down to late at 8.30 and he would fret for ages and it was awful , and then we started putting him down at 7.00 and that seemed to do the trick, he usually goes down without a murmur, i put his little musical thing on and leave him to it,

Oh BTW he has started to roll front to back, he did it in his cot and then started crying as i think it freaked him out !!! god he'll be crawling next LOL hes always standing up when you hold him and looking round all the time, i have a feeling he will be a 'on the go' boy, not like DS who didn't crawl till 15 months

Pixie - we have a bumbo, they are great, if i'm in the kitchen i can just pop it on the worktop and sit Ollie in it whilst i pootle about ,

RG - braids out already, did Ellie pull them ? Ollie is always geting hold of my hair, he also strokes my face and stuff as well when hes feeding , but a couple of times hes almost pulled out my nose stud

Fiona76 - welcome back to cold grey and snowy England, bet you missed it....not

LOM - we have a had a couple of very sticky incidents with Calpol, keep on meaning to use the pipette thingy, don't think Ollie likes the taste, or maybe its too sticky and sweet

Have tried Ollie with avent cup with soft spout to feed him water and he drinks from it no problem , so guess i will be bypassing bottles all together, still need to get him onto formula tho' haven't tried for ages but will maybe put some in cup,

oh and has anyone heard of a Doo Doo bear, one of the mums at nursery was talking about it, apparently when baby wakes up crying, the crying makes it emit womb noises, her little boy kept waking up crying and apparently this totally sorted her out

Lxxxxxx

jetgirl · 25/03/2008 12:16

Hi all, hope you've had a good weekend. we had a nice time with the in-laws. DD received a ridiculous amount of chocolate, I don't think we'll need to buy any for months!

William must have given up sleeping at night for Lent as he slept really well on Sunday night and last night, so fingers crossed this continues.

RG - I think the sofa things applies more to people who fall asleep on the sofa with their babies, it's a SIDs risk. Why have you have to lose your braids?

Welcome back fiona! I bet it was shock to arrive back to this cold weather.

sparkly - glad Callum's enjoying his food

I'm v. excited as I have a hairdresser's appointment next tuesday, I haven't been for 9 months and can't wait. My mum's going to babysit so I can have some real me time. It's just in time for William's christening, all I have to do is find the perfect outfit now...
