Thanx LMB, thanx Sarah. Glad i'm not the only one guilty of "The Poo That Time Forgot"!!

Sarah - oh yes, changing rooms! You could even just go to any old shop and use their disabled changing room as they normally have enough room for your pram too. My local Evans has a good sized disabled changing room and if you just pick up something from the rack and just check that you're ok to use the disabled changing room, i'm sure they'll be fine. I used one with Ellie when i went clothes shopping and they were absolutely fine about it.

How can a flourescent light deter drug users???

OP posts:
sarahloumadam · 19/03/2008 22:27

RG - I googled it and apparently it makes it hard for addicts to locate their veins! Were you up front about feeding Ellie then or did you take some clothes as decoys?

RGPargy · 19/03/2008 22:32

Clothes as decoys are always good in case they get shirty (arf arf!) with you. They dont tend to take any notice of how long you are in their changing rooms! If they did come and ask if you were ok, you could just call out that "yes you were fine but the baby started kicking off so you're giving him a quick feed, hope you dont mind!" kind of thing.

sarahloumadam · 19/03/2008 22:35

What a bloody revelation and why didn't I think of doing this?! What a wally I am!

RGPargy · 19/03/2008 22:36

When you're nervous about public feeding like us, we have to think of other ways to get the job done, whilst still being discreet! Good luck and go shopping soon to try it out!

Have been mentally planning my route around town . Still have to deal with pram aversion tho . Think he will be better once in a pushchair because he is so flaming nosey.

Adam has his first proper cold at the mo so keeps doing little croaky coos. Hasn't stopped him talking or feeding tho!

Now how often should I be washing his soft toys do you think? Have been v.slovenly so far but since he keeps gnawing on everything will have to start being better mom.

jetgirl · 20/03/2008 09:19

sarah - I have never washed any of DD's toys, unless they've been chucked down the loo or something! It's never occured to me! I do sterilise teething rings though.

sarah and rg - I have found if you ask at changing rooms they will let you feed regardless of whether you are trying something on - it helps if baby is screaming with hunger as many people just cannot stand the noise and want it to stop asap! Find a nice coffee shop with sofas where you can sit with your back to people when you are feeling brave enough to 'go public' and have a go there. it also means you HAVE to eat a nice cake too, to keep up blood sugar levels while you're feeding

rg - I couldn't tell you the number of times I've suddenly realised the nappy's been on a while. it's usually when I've been catching up with friends or something. William's poos are very, erm, fragrant so you just can't ignore them though DH doesn't seem to notice though!

LMB - I think I make even more of an effort now that I have 2 children to entertain and I don't want DD feeling ignored. I do love doing things like baking - mainly because you can eat the end result, and gardening, Painting is less fun because there's usually so much mess to clear up, but it's better than having cbeebies on all day which DD would love, but would send me insane!

William only woke up once last night so I feel a bit more human today. Am off to get him weighed in a bit, and buy Easter eggs. Have a good day all.

we are going away for a few days and I had to buy disp. nappies today, I was looking at the packs like I had to ask another mum what size I needed lol!! She must have thought I was a right weirdo, not knowing what size I needed for my 6 month old baby..

Loopy - keep meaning to take the LO swimming, bet it is fab. Waiting for his cold to clear up first. Have got a chicco physio-comfort carrier (front carrier) or something like that. Not a great selection to choose from so chose the one that looked the sturdiest for my enormous baby! DH had him in it on Sunday and he loved it. Back carrier will be better eventually I think as he is going to squash my boobs!

sarahloumadam · 20/03/2008 14:56

BTW had to use a changing room in Sainsbury's clothing section today - emergency feed required! I was just upfront about it as Adam was screaming his head off and they were lovely. So glad we chatted about this or else I might have been forced to abandon my shopping and trek out in the rain to the car! x

LittleMissBliss · 20/03/2008 15:42

sarahlou- Glad the changing room idea helped and you managed to put it into action today!
I think i'm lucky because my local mothercare is great it has big comfy chairs, a water dipenser, bottle warmers, 3 changing areas and a high chairs to feed your baby!

SGK- Are you off to visit family for Easter?
Or just a little break away?

Loopy- i really want to take ds swimming i brought him some shorts and a blow up chair about a month ago and still haven't used them! I don't really want to go on my own. I'm trying to encourage dp to come with me but he's not much of a fan. I think i might ask some of the other mums as we could help each other out when it came to changing.

I've just been to one of my baby groups today and decided to walk, much safer with the current state of my driving.

Lots of mums and babies there today which was great and the little ones made me really broody.
And we were all given Easter eggs which was lovely. So i think i might go and make myself a steamy cup of tea and dip bits of shell in it... mmmmmmm!

RGPargy · 20/03/2008 16:45

Jetgirl - Phew! They should put a warning sign on nappies... "WARNING! Social lives can cause nappy rash!".

Loopy - I cant take credit for the changing room idea, it was LMB who mentioned M&S changing rooms! Hope DD's bum is not as sore any more.

Sarah - yay!!! How did you find the changing room for feeding? Well done for braving it and i bet you were really glad you didn't have to go home again!

Oh I forgot to tell you!!! I HAVE SOME REAL NAPPIES!!! A friend of mine lent me her pack of five Totsbots in size 1 to use until they dont fit anymore and then she will lend me her size 2! I haven't used them yet as she is going to give me a nappy bucket and some liners so when i get them next Wednesday it'll be all systems go!!!

ChocolateHobnob · 20/03/2008 18:29

Changing room as feeding room!! I never thought of that; how dim am I. I confess I tend to hit the nearest cafe and order myself drink plus suitably calorific cake - I need the calories for feeding (not) - unless I am on my own and in a hurry when I go to John Lewis's lovely room with water cooler. Mothercare near us has a lovely feeding room too with glider chairs and footstools.

What are you all up to over the weekend? We're not doing much... DD and DH bonding time I reckon...

ChocolateHobnob · 20/03/2008 18:33

Am I the only naughty one left using disposables???

RGPargy · 20/03/2008 18:50

Choc - no you're not! I'll still be using them over night or if i get lazy and dont get them washed and dried in time for the next day! I think had i had to buy them, i wouldn't have bothered but as they are being lent to me and have cost me zero, i'm very willing to give them a go.

Not up to much this weekend - too skint! DD and DP bonding time here too.

Changing room as feeding room worked out really well RG although DS insisted on his favourite left boob even though the other one was nearly exploding grrrr! I shall be plaguing changing rooms everywhere now!

Chocolate (whispers) I am still using disposables but don't tell anyone .

We were meant to be going away for the weekend but we never got around to booking anything and we are skint anyway.

RGPargy · 20/03/2008 21:09

Loopy - Yes, you got me, but only coz they were FREE!!!

lol @ the WHY phase! I remember it well!

Sarah - Glad it worked out OK for you. I think if i was nervous about feeding somewhere unfamiliar I would always start with the more comfy and favoured boob anyway because Ellie would fuss less and i'd be less flustered.

Ooooh something else i forgot to tell you!! I FED IN PUBLIC the other day!! I met Chris in the pub after he finished work and it was about half an hour til feed time. We made sure we sat in a discreet nook of the pub and in the end i fed her there. I kept asking Chris if anyone was looking etc as i had my back to the pub, but he assured me that no one had even noticed!! So it can be done girls!!

Our thread is funny some weeks it really quiet and then we have days like today and it's like gossiping arround the water cooler!

I have to confess i'm still using disposables [shhhhhh...] i have considered using re-usables but haven't invested yet. MIL keeps buying me massive multy packs of nappies so i haven't had to buy any in over 2 months! I think i'm set for another 2 aswell!

But i might eventually... we'll see.

RG- PMSL too i rember your strong protests. But your a girl after my own heart with the free bees! (that's such a weird saying, especially typed)

Also with weird- is it spelt weird or wierd? I'm sure i came accross a thread saying that it's actually wierd but is often miss spelt. Can anyone shed light on this please. My spelling is dire at the best of times. I wish mumsnet had a spell checker.

RGPargy · 20/03/2008 22:44

LMB - I think the only reason i objected so much was the thought of clearing up a pooey nappy etc but as Ellie only poos once a week, i think i can handle that and will possibly stick her in disposables on "Poo Day" so i can just chuck it in the bin!

Oh and it's weird. I did a check on dictionary.com and the word "wierd" doesn't exist!

Soooo tired..... The little cowbag has had me up since 4.30 and REFUSES to go back to sleep so after spending an hour and a half trying to get her back to sleep, i gave up and came downstairs.

OP posts:
sarahloumadam · 21/03/2008 08:06

I'm with you RG had a crap night due to Adam having a cold/cough poor thing, have been wary about using Medised cos heard it is meant to really knock them out but didn't work on Adam! Think he keeps waking himself up because every time he coughs he farts! So today have massive bags under my eyes and just planning on napping whenever he naps. Hope you can get some naptime too. Well done on the public feeding breakthru! I do breastfeed in public when absolutely necessary but I get all hot and bothered and stressed. I have yet to find a cosy cafe with big sofas facing the wall where I can hide away and eat cake!

Must go, Adam has just done one of his TWICE DAILY poos and is grinning at me(once a week?! you lucky thing!).
