Sparkly- re your bf peer supporter training. Contact the ABM (Association of Breastfeeding Mothers) they do peer supporter courses

jetgirl · 11/03/2008 12:21

I am shortly off to seek advice from elsewhere on here, just wanted to saying hi for the day. William has not stopped feeding for the last day. He wants a little bit every hour for about 10 minutes and it's driving me crazy. needless to say last night was not good at all. In addition he fed for and hour and a half yesterday evening, then another half an hour at bedtime!!

Anyway, have added another pic of my growing boy.

SparklyGothKat · 11/03/2008 12:21

have emailed ABM abput peer support

Pixiefish · 11/03/2008 12:23

I know a few who have done the course- in Wales (which I am but I know you're not) there's funding for us to do the courses. I don't think I'll do it as I don't really have time

Hi all,

RG: Yes its my friend's 1st and she is so excited, I guess like I was when I had my 1st. I have bags and bags of stuff that he has left behind but I still wanted to buy new stuff for Tyler. ( unlucky for me there was no-one around me who had baby clothes to give away anyway).

Also RG, Sorry I have no tips on expressing, but I must say I am quite anxious about that too. I tried once and I did not get much out. I am just comforted by the fact that when I go back to work, Tyler will be on solids and not that dependant on BF

I am planning to do a car boot sale for every thing up to six months once Tyler has outgrown it, e.g the swing- its still as good as new, he's not too keen to sit for too long!

Does anyone experience the dryness around the nipples, my skin is peeling and I have had a cut before. Am just wondering what is causing it. I will appreciate some advice.

Gotta run, DS needs picking up from school.

LK2boyzma · 11/03/2008 15:01

RG; Just read the post I sent yesterday, sorry for the mis-typing , You know what its like when you are racing around the clock; in my case, trying to get through the typing before Tyler needs my attention

Pixiefish · 11/03/2008 15:18

Loopy- still the same- very slow to gain but at least not losing.

I need to arrange her baptism but was waiting till she'd fit into dd1's Christening gown

OH gosh what a lot to catch up on! The laptop broke on friday so no mumsnet for 5 days... I had shakes, cold sweats the lot!. I am trully an addict. Well i can sympathyse(sp?) With all the mums with non-sleeping, constantly-feeding babies.

As soon as Coby hit 4months, its as if a switch came on and he became this ravenous baby. Very fussy in the evenings i'd feed him and he'd be fussing 30 minutes later i was convinced he couldn't be hungry. But no he was and is all the time! So tiring, especially at night. Hopefully It'll only last a week or so. Today i started to fall asleep on the sofa at about 2. So took Coby up to bed with me and he slept and fed from 2-5 and we only got up because dp came home!

I was a little worried because of his long nap he may not sleep tonight, but he's sleeping as normal!

I have a little bruiser 16lb 9 1/2 oz last Wednesday!

I have to also admit i am not enjoying the constant feeding at the moment. But i'm sticking with it because i know it'll get better! Just having to look ahead.

jetgirl · 12/03/2008 22:52

I haven't slept for more than 2 hours at a time for the past few nights, I look like a walking corpse and by 7am this morning was sobbing in bed as just couldn't face any more feeding. To top it off William had his last lot of jabs today and I had my smear test! What a fun day!

Anyway, DD and I baked biscuits this afternoon and they are proving a bit of a tonic, so feel a bit brighter now. Don't know how I'll feel if I have another night of feeding though.

Feeling much better today. William just wouldn't settle in the cot but the minute he was near me he just went to sleep! Every time we put him in the cot he screamed, and carried on if DH picked him up, but with me he fell asleep, so he ended up in bed with me instead and slept for 5 hours - woohoo! I kept waking up paranoid I would squash him, but still had a better night's sleep than I have been having.

DD is currently painting, and has decided the brushes need painting too so is very messy, but at least she's happy and hasn't even mentioned cbeebies yet today so i am keeping quite sane today!

Loopy i'm also going to miss Coby when he moves out of our bed. I think were going to wait to 6 months still or to when he's nearly sleeping through, so it may be a little longer. I will miss his little snuffles but can't wait to be able to stretch out in bed again!

ChocolateHobnob · 13/03/2008 18:13

Hi all

I guess the babies getting greedier around now is par for the course - this is when people used to start solids, isnt it? I'm holding out cos lo doesnt seem to need them, and thus far is still going 12 hours overnight without food so doesnt seem too hungry. if only she slept for those 12 hours - it's a nightmare. We have a cosleeper but she often ends up tucked in with me anyway...

Loopy hope DD3 is okay!

We took lo swimming today for the first time - it was fun! Have you tried it yet, anyone? I can also recommend baby yoga..

Time to check on tonight's chilli! Hugs all.

loopy - brave, or perhaps mad! When I'd logged off I discovered DD had painted her hand purple! Fortunately she couldn't reach anything except the table which had a plastic tablecloth on so no damage done. I prefer paint to glue - the minute Dd sees glue she wants glitter too, then I end up in a sparkly wonderland. William still has one speck of glitter on his head from weeks ago which i just can't remove!
When's DD3's baptism?

RG - what a cutie indeed! Amazing hair too.

choc - the WHO recommend babies are exclusively breastfed until 26 weeks, so you shouldn't need to start on solids yet, I think their digestive systems aren't ready yet, though I may be misinformed.

Someone wants another feed, gotta go

xx

ChocolateHobnob · 13/03/2008 20:30

Hi Jet

No I wasnt going to start solids yet! I was just commenting that 4 months was when people used to start babies on solids. I like bf and my DD feeds like a bottle feeder, i.e. very regularly, even though I feed her on demand in principle. I know I'm lucky! Even if she suddenly gets hungrier though I won't start solids until much later - her sleep couldnt get worse anyway, but she isnt at all hungry, so I'm not going to be someone who weans early to help her sleep!...

BTW, Cow and Gate were harrassing mothers in Tesco today offering freebie foods and so on. I said DD was too young for food, they said 'how old?' and then 'you can give them food at 4 months you know', so I said politely 'I do know, but I am going to wait', and they said 'most babies start solids at 4 months though' as though questioning me. Grr.

RGPargy · 13/03/2008 21:29

Talking of weaning, Ellie does seem to want more from her feeds - i'm not sure whether to give her babyrice at bedtime once she's four months or whether that will make me a bad mummy!! I had initially said i was going to go for BLW but lately when i eat in front of her she goes bananas, as if she wants some too!

ELB1 · 14/03/2008 07:58

Hi all

I have only been lurking around here since Jessica was born last November as I am a bit of a rubbish poster - hope some of you might remember me.
Anyway - I thought I'd drop in and let you know I've joined the "Due in November 2008" thread am having another one!!

Bit quick I know, and am not thinking too much about how it will be (EDD is 11 days after Jessica's 1st birthday - and she was two weeks early)! Nevertheless, I am thrilled and excited and am getting past the nerves by telling myslef I am getting the hard stuff all over with in quick succession and soon enough they will play with eachother and keep themselves occupied (I hope)!

Jessica is a darling, so hopefully I get another one like that. She is such a happy little thing - always smiling and chuckling, and goes to her own bed like a dream at 7pm each night - no exception. We dream feed her at 10.30pm and then she either sleeps til about 6.30am-ish or if she hasn't had enough milk in the day (she is not a big eater) then she may wake at around 4am, but I'm back in my bed within 15-20 minutes. She doesn't do daytime sleep mind you (20- 30 mins at a time when she feels like it), so is full on to keep her occupied - I feel I do "circuit training" between playmat, babygym and bouncy chair! . Will post a pic.

Your babies all sound gorgeous and each one seems to have their own little ways and personalities - isn't it fab!
