Don't know yet Charming, waiting for results of post-mortem. She went into labour naturally but when she got to the hospital there was no heart-beat. So upset for her.

ThisCharmingMum · 07/03/2008 12:32

wave manically at Loopy

Hi honey! It's lovely to have you back on. I hope Sara deals with her 3rd jabs as well as your experience.

You all seem to have very big bouncing babies compared to Sara. I haven't had her weighed for about 2 weeks but I would be surprised if she were anywhere near 12lb yet. She's a petite little thing and defintiely more interesetd in sleeping than she is in eating. She won't be forced to feed either - just starts screaming and kicking so I jsut let her drink as much as she wants.

RG - your social life sounds like it's taken off. I must admit, mine has gone in the opposite direction this week. I've been lazy

Ladies - I have been having dangerous thoughts. I have been thinking of possibly maybe starting to contemplate having another baby!!!

This is the woman who absolutely hates being pregnant and swore she would stop at 2. I know a couple of you have chatted about TTC around Dec. I'm thinking maybe TTC when Sara is 18 months

It's just that I always saw myself having 3 kids before I discovered what miserable pregnancies I was to have.

Someone please talk some sense into me now before I mention this hairbrained plan to DH (he has never hidden the fact that he would like 3 kids but said he was happy with 2 as well).

ThisCharmingMum · 07/03/2008 12:35

Sarah - she must be beside herself. My SIL gave birth to a stillborn baby at 9 months as well. She is always very nervous when anyone is ready to give birth.

She spent the night praying when I was in labour with Sara.

jetgirl · 07/03/2008 13:27

sarah - how awful

IMO it's much harder to get baby off a bottle than a cup, I'm surprised the HV was so keen to promote bottle over a cup.

charming - I know what you mean about thinking about another baby. I am definitely not having any more (we can't afford a big enough house for a start!) but now that William is out of the newborn phase i want another LO! At least I have a cousin who is expecting in september, and a friend whose baby is due at the end of the month, so I can get my fix!

RG - my DD weighed 10lbs 12oz at 11 weeks, so you've nothing to worry about. I have fed William in exactly the same way and he feels like a bit of a monster in comparison! Anyway, the clothes last way longer if they're petite so it's great financially! DD is having a growth spurt at the mo, I've no idea how much she weighs, but she's 83cm tall and has grown 3 cm since the start of the year. This means that at 2 1/2 she's just wearing clothes labelled 18-24 months.

I'm pleased to say William is totally back to normal now. I've never had a poorly baby before so it really freaked me out. The doctor said it was viral - they always say that IME if they can't give a firm diagnosis.

I had my return to work interview this morning, which was really good. It was the first time in months I dressed professionally, and felt really good (although my blouse wouldn't do up properly over my big boobs so I had to find a sweater!) Boss is sorting out facilities for me to express in comfort and privacy.

Got to hit Sainsbury's this afternoon, we've friends coming to stay and nothing in the house to eat or drink (except a few bottles of frozen EBM, not sure they'd want that in a cup of tea!

sarahloumadam · 07/03/2008 14:17

Well I'm flipping furious! I had planned to go out to a Jack in the Box play session and there was a bloody great crane parked in the middle of the road so I couldn't get out. They could have knocked on a couple of doors and warned us and given us a chance to get out! I was really looking forward to it cos I hadn't planned on doing anything else today. Grrr.

Charming - how awful for your SIL, no wonder she gets anxious.Does she have any more children? Ikwym re thinking of having more children. I wish I could re-live that first couple of weeks again because it has gone so quickly and I have loved every minute of it. I always thought I would love having a toddler but wasn't sure if I would enjoy the baby stage but babies are dangerously addictive!

LOL Loopy re your mischievous breast-feeding escapade .

SparklyGothKat · 07/03/2008 23:24

HI all, Callum now weighes 12lb 2oz at 24 weeks (adjusted age of 17 weeks) so weighes less than some of the younger babies on here, but he is now following the line, and hasn't the formula for a week and hasn't has any top ups of EBM for 2 days

He is teething badly atm, we are giving him calpol once a day in the evening because he just isn't settling.

I went to BF clinic today and there was a lady there with her 7 day old baby. He weighed 7lb something and looked so small. I am able to give her some advice about BF and getting her supply going, which was lovely to do.

littleoldme · 08/03/2008 09:53

Hello everyone. I haven't caught up for ages so thought it was about time.

To all the closet archers fans on this thread - did you hear it last night? I was in floods.

RG - SORRY I haven't forgotten about those DVDs I'm just being crap at getting round it. I'll sort it this week I promise.
I hope we can still arrange a meet up sometime. I can't wait to give Ellie a cuddle.

Hi Loopy - You'll be pleased with us. I'm a total convert to real nappies. My friend loaned me some to try and I love them. I've got some bamboo birth to potty ones, it works out cheaper and they are sooooo soft.Really Glad to hear that DD is doing so well.

Charming - I'm suprised at you!!!! I vividly remember the never again conversation we had when you were about to have Sara. Mind you - I felt the same and am now beginning to have 'well maybe feelings'. Glad you had such a good weekend in London.

Sara - awful news about your friend. i can't even begin to imagine.

Jet - Glad to hear that your work are looking after you so well. when do you go back?

SGK - Amazing new about Callum. You've done a fab job with him. After everything you've been through you must be well chuffed.

Well it's been an up and down couple of weeks at chez LOM. We've been having building done. Very exciting but quite disruptive at times, particularly when t decides it's time for a nap and the builder decides it's time knock a wall down.

DH managed to end up in casualty after landing on his head whilst playing football. He's ok but it was the final straw for me. I'd been feeling quite low and ended up in floods of tears on the health visitor the next day. Felt fine after a decent kip though.

THEN ( yes there's more ) woke in the early hours of Thurs with the most diabolical digestive discomfort. My mum came to the rescue and looked after T - I was terrified of passing it on to him or fainting when holding him. We used all the expressed milk then tried him on formula but he wasn't having any of it. Poor thing, he was getting quite upset as I didn't have much milk because I was so dehydrated. Anyway all is well now and It does mean that I've lost half a stone in two days.

On a positive note I went out and bought some new clothes and feel lots better for it

I want to do BF peer support training, not sure completely how to do it though.

RGPargy · 08/03/2008 18:33

Afternoon all!

Sarah - at your news. How awful for her.

Loopy - wow that's some weight!!!! LOL @ you freaking out your work mate. Naughty naughty

Charming - I'm with you on the dangerous thoughts front! Even tho i am peeling my eye lids open as we speak, I'd still have another! (i think!)

Jet - Glad i'm not the only one with a small baby. ;) Glad William is feeling better. What a relief!

Sparkly - well done for doing so well with Callum! I'm also thinking about giving Ellie some calpol before bed because she's been dribbling and knawing her hands for weeks now but the last few nights she's just not settling at all and i'm starting to flag due to lack of sleep.

LOM - No worries re the DVDs. Like i said, no hurry for them, whenever you're passing a post office just chuck 'em in the post.

Poor you with your digestive discomfort and poor DH with his bump on the head!!!

Had Ellie weighed yesterday and she's now 11lb 9.5oz. Still small but i think she makes up for it in length.

Ellie has decided it would be a good idea to keep mummy up for two nights on the trot from 2am onwards. Last night, for example, she slept from 7.45pm until 2.30am. I fed her and got back into bed at 3am. Then she woke at 3.10, 3.20, 3.40 and 4.30. I then decided to feed her again and i finally got back into bed again at 5.10. She fussed some more until 6.30 so i brought her into bed with me (DP was working away) and finally got more than 20 minutes sleep - I woke up before her at 9.30am! I am absolutely shattered now though and i dont know why she's suddenly taken to waking up erratically like that. Not sure if it had anything to do with DP being away for the last two days. That's the only thing that's been any different!

I have to admit that i'm not enjoying BFing very much at the moment either. I feel a bit trapped by it and when i DO feed her, she's always fussing and whinging! Her latch is fine and everything like that, but she just whinges when she comes to the end of one side and when she's being winded and it just makes me feel like she's not enjoying it. For the two times she's had a bottle of EBM, she didn't whinge like that at all!! It's getting me down, i have to admit. I feel under such pressure from DP and MIL to carry on BF until at least six months that i suppose i'll just have to persevere. It's probably blown out of proportion because i'm knackered and need a full night's sleep. I can only DREAM (no pun intended!) of going through the night sleep-wise as i've not slept through the night for over a year now!!

Anyway, less moaning. Best try and get dinner prepped in a dark kitchen. DP has taken the light fitting down because the cables were arcing and as he's an electrician, he had to find out why because it's dangerous!

We should have been going to a house warming party tonight but DP wasn't up for it, which is a shame because Ellie could have been babysat by MIL! It would have been nice to go out and just be me, i have to admit, but oh well. Maybe some other time.

Anyway, have a nice evening all!

sarahloumadam · 09/03/2008 09:13

RG - I had a week or so of crap feeds due I think to teething pains, same kind of thing that you are experiencing, lots of fussing and pulling away and tears and general stress. Makes the whole thing v.unpleasant and difficult but all of a sudden it stopped it was business as usual. Now he seems to be having a growth spurt (god help me, he is huge ). Anyway, just trying to say that, as wonderful as breast-feeding can be, it also sucks sometimes (no pun intended!), I feel your pain.

RGPargy · 09/03/2008 10:48

Thanx Sarah - glad i'm not the only one (although i know i'm not, but you know what i mean!).

Last night DP gave her a bottle of EBM after her bath (3oz) and she guzzled it all down and then came to me for "dessert" too for about 10 minutes. Best of all tho, she didn't fuss at all! The fussing seems to be easing - i'm hoping it will stop!

Oh more good news - I didn't give Ellie any Infacol at all yesterday AND i had a curry with garlic and onions and guess what? She was completely fine. Brought her wind up nicely and didn't have any belly aches at all! I really hope this is the end to the colic episode, especially now she is moving around more (albeit by thrashing her arms and legs around) which helps the wind to travel through the body.

Going to be trawling to the Autotrader online today for a half decent car and then hopefully we'll be looking at a couple today too. Wish me luck! My car goes to the garage in the sky tomorrow. I'm truly truly sad!! Silly, i know lol.

Have a good day all!

Morning ladies!

Quiet on here isn't it?!!

What about this awful weather?!! Yuk!! Thankfully no flooding for us here in Kent, but it's bloomin' windy as fook and we've got to go out in it!

We found a car yesterday! DP and his mate, who's a mechanic, went and had a look at an Astra (old shape) in a lovely bright blue colour. It was in such good condition and well looked after, as well as being within our budget so DP decided to get it. It's not my dream car or anything, but it's a good clean car and a diesel too so very economical and let's face it - beggars cant be choosers!! Here's the autotrader link to it HERE I've decided he looks a bit like an "Alan" My last car was a "Victor" (he was a Vectra). Do you see the theme here? lol

Anyway, must dash - got to get ready to brave the elements in the van for one last time!

Have a good day all!

Sparkly - that's great news about callum. You should definitely look into being a peer supporter, you would be perfect for it. It's something I would love to do to so I'm looking about for courses in my area. A good friend is expecting a baby this month, and I would love to be able to support her, without sounding pushy IYKWIM, as I know she's really keen to bf.

LOM - I go back to work on April 21st - 6 weeks today! I'm looking forward to it, but will miss William heaps. Having said that I've been happy to send DD to nursery while I've been on leave as I know she loves it so much and it gives me time with William and to do the housework (and go on mumsnet too!) Sounds 'fun' at your house! Glad the clothes shopping helped

sarah and RG - William has also been fussy recently, and i've had a few dreadful nights. i think it's the teething and growing generally and I'm looking forward to him settling back into his routine. I can feel one of his teeth pushing through when he bites my knuckle. I think he's coming down with another cold too, so he's snuffly as well which doesn't help feeding, and he gets quite frustrated sometimes.

RG - congrats on finding a car. DH always goes for diesel, even though the fuel is getting so expensive, it's definitely more economical in the long run.

We've had a really nice weekend with friends visiting, and I've even had a couple of glasses of wine!!! I managed to get a bit of gardening done yesterday, just tidying the borders really, but it looks much nicer just for a bit of weeding. I'm in the process of planning DH's birthday pressie, he's 30 next month, so I'm putting together a This is your life style photo album for him. I've emailed friends and relatives to help so I hope i can pull it off. My 30th is 5 days after his, so he'll have a few days to think of something brilliant for me!!

Hope you survive the storms unscathed. It's just wet and horrible here, nothing too dramatic, but there's no way I am even thinking of leaving the house today!

SparklyGothKat · 10/03/2008 11:54

I am so proud of myself and Callum! It would have been easy to give up before xmas with all the pressure I was under. Yesterday we had a bit of a bad day, Callum was grazing all day and kept pulling off the breast and refused to feed. I had to give him a bottle of formula because he just wasn't feeding, but he seems to be back to track today.

This is the longest I have actually BF for, normally give up at about 5 months, so am very chuffed that despite all the troubles I am still at it. And plan to continue BF for as long as possible.

LK2boyzma · 10/03/2008 15:48

Hello to all, weather is diabolic here! I thought twice about takng DS to school this morning

Finally, I have managed to catch up! Everytime I try to, Tyler demands attention and before I know it its time to cook or do a school run!!! etc.

Charming: hello, its been a while! Wow you are thinking of another LO! Like they say, you worry about discomfort, pains etc of being pregnant whilst preg, but once that is over, it so easily forgotten

Its a definate no no in my household. DH would run a mile.I restrain myself from buying too many clothes for Tyler because I would hate to see so many of them go to waste when he out grows then. I am the youngest in the family and all my sister have had their children, so I would not have anyone to give them to!
My friend is expecting in June but she is not very keen on hand-me-downs either!

Loopy: I could not have my children close together because I could not afford it financially, but I do agree with you, having them close together DOES pay off in future!

LOM: Hello to you I am with you on the poorly hubby front. Mine feel off the stairs, he slipped and hurt his back. He is off sick at the moment.

Because of that, I have had to do the school run all by my self. ( not bad though because I leave Tyler aat home and he is usually asleep at that time of the morning) DS seems to prefer that because I do not 'waste too much time of loading the buggy', which makes him late.

RE: If I had the energy, I too would go for cloth nappies because our food shopping bill has doubled since Tyler's arrival (with disposable nappies and breastpads!

RG: Sorry you are feeling down re: BF abd sleep. I have had those days before and I do eel your pain. Your car looks lovely, here's hoping that will cheer you up a bit

I have had mine for 8yrs now and am so attached to it, but Tyler's pram is too long and am having trouble fitting it into the boot, so I am sure I will be looking around soon!

Tyler had his second jabs on friday and it better than I expected. He is now 14lbs too, so I have to update his wardrobe.

SGK: well done you re: BF

Fiona: You seem to be having a ball in NZ, Am of all of you who have MIL to babysit, mine would not know where to start.

Good day to you all

Morning everyone

Jet - I wonder if the fussing is a teething/growth spurt thing? I can only imagine that that's what it is. Glad you enjoyed the vino. I tend to have one or two glasses every night these days, although that will soon be stopping because it's not very good for my [ever expanding] waistline! The birthday pressie for your DH sounds fab!! How very thoughtful!

Sparkly - Congrats on the BF milestone!

LK - why isn't your friend keen on hand-me-downs? Is this her first LO??

Loopy - well done on getting some sleep! Sorry DD is a grumpy pants tho.

I'm feeling alot better now, mood-wise. I think i was just a bit over tired and everything seemed all doom and gloom. I am happy to continue BFing (although still not in public!), but i would love to know how i can get more out when i'm expressing! The only time i had a "good" amount was when i expressed first thing in the morning before feeding Ellie (much to her displeasure!). I got almost 3oz but i'd like to get that every time so that i have an ample supply for DP's bedtime feeds. Any tips would be most welcome!

So we picked up "Alan" last night. He drives really well and is surprisingly clean for his year. He's basically a smaller version of Victor (my old Vectra). Alan is a nice little motor!

Right, better dash, little miss is stirring from her morning nap.

Have a good day all!

lost you all for a bit- off to catch up

LizzieO · 11/03/2008 11:37

Hello everyone

has just taken me 30 mins to catch up and now i haven't much time to type !!!....

....TBH nothing much to report here, Ollie doing fine, DS doing fine, one at nursery and one having a kip at the mo !

I know what some of you mean about having another, i def thought i wanted to stop at 2, TBH i was happy with just the one ! but now i'm like , wow it might be nice to have another, but TBH i think i will stop at 2, being a older mum or GILF at a yonger mate referred to me the other day i don't know if i have the energy for another pregnancy and then those first few intensive weeks of looking after a newborn, i def prefer it when they start smiling and interacting with you, in fact i think the age my DS1 is now (3) is so cute, tho soemtime the relentless chattering sometimes becoome a bit much but the stuff he comes out with is just priceless,

RG and LOM - i was sorry to here of your low days and hope you are back to your old selves again,i know what you mean too about BFeeding. I haven't tried Ollie on Formula again yet, tho i am supposed to be trying once a day, he absolutely loves his baby porridge and banana and guzzles it down ! i was startinhg to feel restricted by the BF thing, but it is an amazing thing to do, and as Ollie seems to have settled down, tho he is still waking once thru the night, i will try and keep on BF till 6 months I guess

Jetgirl - good luck on your return to work i bet the last few months seem like a blur don't they,

i was going to take the full year off from my work, tho' I have now expressed an interest in taking redundo ! i will be going back to work at some point tho' but need to re-think my whole career and maybe retrain, perhaps something in education ?!?!?

take care all
Lxxxxxx
