NL - I only eat with the dc cos I'm too lazy to cook twice!!

MJ - hope you have fun with Runny

SOL - no work emergencies come up yet then?? Does the car look like it might break down right next to a pub on the way home?? Any friends having a crisis that can only be dealt with by you??

Maveta · 10/01/2008 14:28

N has 3 meals; cereal for brekkie, main with dessert (fruit or petit filous) at lunch and same at dinner. And cereal before bed! He is only on 2 breastfeeds a day now though.

My period came back last month which coincided with me dropping his daytime feeds. Really liked not having it, was a bit put out to get it back!

SPB- from that book.. um.. on the whole I was disappointed with the book - I expected it would have a little bit more but it seemed like little bulked out with a lot of extra fluff. I liked the sandwich ideas, haven´t really tried sandwiches with him yet but now I think I might. And things like breadsticks..and..um.. cant remember anything else right now but yeah, was a bit disappointed. Might invest in that Dinner Lady one next.. or maybe I´ll just adapt my current cookbook recipes instead of spending more money?? that would be a good idea too.

Went to the dentist this morning and came out ?130 lighter just for clean and x-rays. Teeth look great though and she said they were in good nick which is fab. although apparently I need all my wisdom teeth out .. yay!

mammyjo · 10/01/2008 14:41

Bad news about the wisdom teeth maveta. I hate the dentist, the only good thing is that it is free at the moment!!
I have the dinner lady book, although I dont know if it is the one you are talking about! The one I have is pretty good, lots of things in it that ds will eat.

I am ENRAGED by my children's school

Fortunately it's on;y over one thing and nothing critical to their education but I am still furious.

Basically we are going away up to Scotland to stay with all the family for fil's 60th. This is not just our usual Edinburgh jaunt but quite a bit further north so I want to take the girls out of school at lunchtime. By the time lunch is done they will be missing 2 hours of school. The only time we have taken them out of school before was bil's wedding, also in Scotland - in 2006. Anyway I put the form in for leave from the headmaster - because I'm law-abiding and it has come back refused! This happened with the wedding too so I was prepared but I'm still spitting chips! I know it's because school's attendance is an area Ofsted focus on (lots of parents take children out of school for hols) but I'm so cross he hasn't looked at my children - both of whom have excellent attendance and are making great progress. 1/2 a day!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Ok - feel bit better now

NorthernLurker · 10/01/2008 16:15

oh and I will of course still be collecting them at lunchtime

cazboldy · 10/01/2008 16:32

my ds1's school did this once. he had qualified at a local agricultural show to lead his calf at a larger national one....i argued that it could be seen as vocational, and even said he could write a report about it but they still said no - and he still went! NL you are not alone x

NorthernLurker · 10/01/2008 16:37

That's awful Caz - it's so annoying isn't it!

StealthPolarBear · 10/01/2008 16:47

NL
What can you do now?

NorthernLurker · 10/01/2008 16:50

Oh and can still go and get them. School can put them down as an unauthorised absence but I doubt I'll be dragged into court for 1/2 day! It's just really annoying though - especially as it would really suit us best to keep them off the whole day - and Monday too but because I have too much respect for their education I won't do that.

Bramshott · 10/01/2008 17:00

Grrr NL - must admit that's one I haven't broached with our school yet. Seems mad that they take that attitude, although I guess in some ways it's forced on them by Ofsted / League tables.

Caz - how awful for your sister (and for the horses).

Popping off again now - trying to be v organised this week as N has her party on Sat (5 - my baby, how? how?!) and I have to make a cake shaped like Ariel (Disney's Little Mermaid for those who may be living in a parallel universe of boys films!). I'm thinking large flat cake, cut into the right shape, and readymade icing dyed the right colours. I've bought a tin, but not sure how much sponge cake mixture to fill it, and ideed whether I need to do one or two cakes and sandwich them together. Bollocks. Any ideas? The tin is traybake sized - d'you think a 4 egg sponge cake mixture would fill it, or do I need 6 eggs?

NorthernLurker · 10/01/2008 17:39

I would use 6 eggs and one cake - good luck - we made Bagpuss once!

oooggs · 10/01/2008 19:57

evening all

no news here

hope you had a good day mj & runny

sol - hope you are bearing up!

We all eat together at meal times well those of us who are here. I always eat with children, 8am, midday and about 4.30-4.45pm. DH is either here for lunch or tea or both depending on shift. Only here for breakfast at weekends. Even before dc's dh and I would have tea 4.30-4.45pm so it is no different. On a dayshift dh has lunch at 11.30am so when he gets home at 4.20pm he is starving

caz

NorthernLurker · 10/01/2008 20:01

Oooggs - you are good - if I had my tea at 4.30 I would be having second tea at 8pm. Off to do mine now [smile}

geordiemacminx · 10/01/2008 20:03

Hey ladies;

Just popping in - Had a text from Bumble this afternoon, she is back from Aus, had a lovely time but unfortunatley got home to discover that there flat had been flooded, so they are having to stay with her inlaws at the moment, with no internet access.

Sexonlegs · 10/01/2008 20:18

Helloo!!!

Well, it was all fine. I have to say that when I got home, I just wanted to stay in the car but, as I say all was fine - phew!

Poor Bumble having her flat flooded - not a nice welcome home.

Runny/MJ, hope you had a lovely tea together.

How is everyone tonight??

oooggs · 10/01/2008 20:23

glad you survived sol

so sorry to hear that Bumble and hope this gets sorted soon - hope you had a fab time with your family

Idreamofchocolate · 10/01/2008 20:24

Awww poor Bumble, what a hideous thing to come back to.

Bramshott - you are brave, I always buy cakes! Good old Waitrose, they do great girlie ones [lazy mummy].

Well have been back at work for 3 days now and am really unimpressed about being there. When I had Em I was so delighted and relieved to be back at work (undisturbed PC time, hot tea, adult company...), but this time...... Am really questioning if I want to be there. Am really missing being with S, am a bit bored and wondering if this really is the best use of my time (probably guilty mummy vibes that one). I get paid very well for what I do, I have a pretty cushy number truth be told, close to home, flexible hours, lots of benefits. Someone please tell me my feelings will settle don and I will get into the swing of it all again and I won't sit there thinking about my children all day long.

Sorry, bit self-absorbed, but am just questioning my life ATM.....

Idreamofchocolate · 10/01/2008 20:25

SOL, glad the PILs were OK!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 10/01/2008 20:29

give it time IDOC, it may not be right for you, but it's too early to tell just yet

OP posts:
Sexonlegs · 10/01/2008 20:29

IDOC, I could have written that post.

I was desperate to get back to work after B was born and used to dread collecting her from nursery, in case she was in a shit mood.

With K, I feel totally different. I so enjoy being with her, and hate leaving her at nursery. I also questioned what I was doing being back etc etc. which was so unlike me.

However, after being back a month, work is picking up and becoming more interesting, we need the money, and I know K benefits from being away from me and mixing with other adults and children.

So, it does get better - at least that is what I have found. xx

oooggs · 10/01/2008 20:29

IDOC - can't help as haven't made the giant leap back to work yet

I bought two (obviously!!) great nursery bags and they have arrived today - I am so impressed (easily done I know) will try and photograph them

PillockOfTheCommunity · 10/01/2008 20:30

we need a new thread - ideas?????

glad it went better than expected SOL

Caz - I saw your post on the 'how many' thread

oooggs · 10/01/2008 20:37

I have just eaten a box of chocolate fingers and din't even notice - I have noone else to blame as I am here on my own

off to find those bags

Idreamofchocolate · 10/01/2008 20:39

Thanks SOL and Pillock. Glad it's not just me feeling like that . I know I need to give it time to get back into the swing of things. I guess it's partly to do with the fact that S will be my last baby and I don't want to miss a second of her, just watching her grow and develop is so wonderful. She's suddenly decided it's time to get mobile and she's such a determined little soul and so pleased with herself as she manoeuvres around the place in her funny little way. So gorgeous!
