@FTEngineerM very teary here too. On day 2 I broke down and cried a lot. Today is day 7 and feeling a lot better but I did cry at Australian MasterChef yesterday so it's still there. I just feel incredibly lucky and grateful.

Kirky658 · 26/09/2021 08:41

Hi all. God I know about the being teary. Started my medication now so hoping I will start to feel better soon... Good to read about the formula tips as I bit the bullet and got some formula yesterday, and am trying to cut out some expressing sessions. It broke my heart but I know it is better for my mental health to move to formula. I asked my health visitor and she said I could get a flask, boil the kettle, let it cool to the right temp and then pop it in the Flask so it's ready for making up bottles rather than waiting for the kettle to cool. Xx

Kirky658 · 26/09/2021 08:42

Also @jary6 congratulations!

unicornpower · 26/09/2021 11:12

Yipppeeeee! Thanks for posting this link! I couldn’t find it

MrsMcNtobe · 26/09/2021 20:12

Hi ladies, just swinging by for some advice if anyone can help. Niamh will sleep ALLLL day in her Moses basket but is a bit of a nightmare at nighttime just sitting awake chilling all night, last night OH was up from 1am - 6pm when she fell asleep. I’m just not sure if there’s anything more I can do to help her sleep at night and I’m also starting to wonder if it’s her next to me crib that’s the problem. I’m going to try her blanket from her Moses basket in there tonight but wondering if anyone else has any tips/advice or if this is just part of the newborn journey

SillyBry · 26/09/2021 20:35

@MrsMcNtobe I know the feeling!! Amazing how they can fall asleep in seconds during the day and you can spend hours get them to sleep at night!
I would say mine were/are both more colicky in the evening/night, which is mostly what stops them settling. I am currently in the habit of letting Rosie fall asleep on my shoulder/upright for 20 mins after feeding before putting her in the crib. It’s not ideal, but it does help. I’m not sure if infacol helps or not but I’m getting in the habit of giving it at the bedtime feed!

FTEngineerM · 26/09/2021 20:38

Congratulations @Jary6

@MrsTD88 roll on day 7😂

@Kirky658 fab news, pleased you’ve got a plan in place. Me and DP crying again today, I think we’re overwhelmed, having two is just absolutely nuts.

@MrsMcNtobe we sold our N2M before DS2 even arrived, I could never get DS1 to sleep in it I was heart broken 😂🙈. Just ended up co sleeping.

Hi everyone I hope you are all doing well. Our little girl is 1 week old today and is a dream.. I can't believe how quick it's flying in already

unicornpower · 27/09/2021 05:48

@MrsMcNtobe I do the same as @sillybry I must confess I’ve broken safe sleeping guidelines and have put Billies sleepyhead into her next to me crib and she’s much happier with that. I think the crib is quite big and spacious and it scared her. I mean, she’s currently asleep on my shoulder so its not foolproof! The witching hour starts in our house about 9pm and her alter ego takes over and she starts screaming randomly until 11ish (sometimes 1) but I just try and feed her near the time so she’s a bit drowsier. I think it’s a newborn right of passage though to be honest! Sleep is for sissies haha

Squibble84 · 27/09/2021 11:27

@unicornpower your little one sounds very similar to mine! Leo cries, is very cranky and frantically feeds from around 9-midnight. We co-sleep most of the night and I just push the duvet down to the bottom of the bed. Although the other night, I was feeding him sat up in bed and fell asleep with him on my chest, I find it so hard feeding during the night to stay awake!

MrsMcNtobe · 27/09/2021 12:21

@SillyBry @FTEngineerM @unicornpower last night wasn’t much different for us, Niamh isn’t even whinging or crying she’s just wide eyed and looking to have a chat. She woke around 1am and fed and then sat wide awake until just before 4. I found I was quite frustrated because I just have no idea what she wants 😂 I think she’s happy just having a cuddle but when I’m half dozing it’s not the best time

crobo87 · 27/09/2021 13:23

@MrsMcNtobe Oscar was the same last night, he was wide awake 3am-6am. Not fussing or crying just wide awake 🙈
There was no point me going back to sleep once he did because I need to be up at 7 anyway.
Normally he has an awake period after his late evening feed normally around 9-10pm but not last night! Needless to say I'm tired today 😴😴

MrsMcNtobe · 27/09/2021 13:25

@crobo87 I’m sitting wondering whether to join Niamh for a nap (she can sleep easily 4-5 hours at a time during the day) or whether I should leave her til she’s hit 2 hours and then try to wake her and keep her awake for a bit 😕

Scotti84 · 27/09/2021 14:01

@MrsMcNtobe through the day i wake Lilly every 3 hrs or so to change her nappy and feed her, we make sure the rooms not dark and there's tv or Radio noise so she thinks something interesting is going on, then at night i let her sleep longer and make sure theres a difference in light and sound so it's boring for her. I have no idea if any of that has an influence on her but if she has no gas or needs something then she sleeps 4-5 hrs at night and it helps me and DH at least feel like nights are still nights and days are days. The first two weeks we just went with what she needed but we were completely knackered.

MrsMcNtobe · 27/09/2021 15:01

@Scotti84 I definitely think I’m going to start that. Niamh woke up about 35 mins ago for a feed and is now dozing again so I’m going to just try my best to keep her occupied for at least another half hour/40 minutes and keep trying to increase her awake window.. it’s really tricky when they’re so small isn’t it

unicornpower · 27/09/2021 15:30

Has anyone got any experience of baby gaviscon? The doctor has just prescribed it as she brings up her evening feeds quite regularly and we have to start the whole thing again and then she’s starving and really distressed 😫

@Squibble84 it’s so strange isn’t it! You can literally count down until 9pm and her eyes are really alert and wide and nothing you do is what she wants haha I was bouncing her around at 10pm last night as it was the only thing that kept the volume down 😂 I fell asleep this morning with her on my chest too, it’s so flipping scary isn’t it! I prodded just husband then to take over so I could have some sleep! I swear last night she was just actually shouting at me for no reason lol

@Scotti84 how do you keep her awake? I’m trying to keep her occupied in the day but it’s quite literally sleep, moan for food, eat and then sleep again, she sometimes sleeps through nappy changes too! I’ve tried some stimulation stuff, dancing round with her, talking to her but she just zonks out Hmm

Scotti84 · 27/09/2021 16:33

@MrsMcNtobe @unicornpower

Its a challenge, because what can you really do with them! But I just do the same as you really, talk to (at) her, read to her, dance around with her, show her out the window (I know she can't really see but we get sun in through her nursery window so it's quite bright), bathing her wakes her up, and if it's warm enough I take her onesie off so she's just in a nappy and body, when her legs are free she is more easy to keep awake somehow. If she does sleep anyway Iet her, but not for more than a coupla hours. She probably already thinks I'm really annoying 😅

Squibble84 · 28/09/2021 07:34

@unicornpower I tried gaviscon with DD1 as she had bad reflux but it just constipated her. We also tried carobel which is a food based thickener x

Hopefulmummie · 28/09/2021 10:00

Morning. Does anyone know what the correct/easiest way to make up formula bottles when out of the house?
I've read so much conflicting info

Kirky658 · 28/09/2021 11:07

@unicornpower @squibble84 Alice is on carobel thickener. Seems to work a lot better, brings up a bit but nowhere near as badly. But it constipates her!

@hopefulmummie my HV told me to boil the kettle, let it cool for 30 mins, put into a flask and then make up on the go. Of you can't get a cup of cold water on the go to cool down take another Flask with cold xx

bewitchingnight · 28/09/2021 15:07

I'm stuck with sleep, Clementine does two hour sleeps, sometimes 3 hours which is fine, I usually wake her to feed if she sleeps any longer. But she only sleeps on me or DH! I sporadically try putting her in the next to me but she wakes up after about ten minutes. I know this part won't last forever but I'm completely clueless... do you just keep trying to put them down until eventually they sleep?!

Scotti84 · 28/09/2021 15:07

So ladies, opinions please as I've read conflicting things, what do you have in babys room, or where baby sleeps? Window open or closed, fan or no fab, humidifier or not? Midwifes said our room is a bit dry so trying to combat that but we dont have enough sockets for everything. I read fans aren't good to have but then on the other side they reduce sids by 72 per cent? Would be interested to know what you all have. And yes I am absolutely overthinking again 🤦‍♀️

crobo87 · 28/09/2021 16:45

@Scotti84 I always have my window open, even just a bit if it's colder.
I've also had the fan on a couple of times and Oscar has been fine.

I'm not sure what's best though. I have a temp monitor in there so know roughly how warm/cook it is

Sophieandtiger · 28/09/2021 18:47

Hi all ! I had been following this and the pregnancy thread closely and delighted to join you all! Congratulations on all the lovely babies!

My LO was born on 20th Sept by c section, we were team yellow and had a little girl!

We are finding our feet as a family of 4, LO is very calm and not crying much at all which has been lovely while I recovered from the surgery. However just like you @bewitchingnight she won't go near her crib and I just logged in to ask about this (how old is Clementine? We are on day 8) I have had her in bed with me the first few days which was lovely so I could get the sleep I desperately needed. We both sleep pretty well like this (2 and 3 hour stints), but I know I don't want to co sleep long term so need to persist! Any tips?

I know this is pretty normal, DS1 only napped in my arms for the first 6 months but he was always happy in the crib at night so this bit is new to me. Shall I just give her more time and hope it resolves itself?

Perpop · 28/09/2021 18:51

Anyone else 10 days overdue? Still feeling great & comfortable but edging towards the induction I didn’t want! (I do know it’s my choice and I can decline)

Any other overdue mamas?
Any positive induction stories?

Congrats on all your lovely babies ❤️
