@cherlw glad to hear Jesse is more settled.
@unicornpower I was told it was because the oral one was a live vaccine so you could in theory catch it from the babies poo. My DH is a science teacher so was eager to know more 🤣 lol

MrsTD88 · 27/10/2021 07:05

@PineappleSun we have a noisy sleeper too, she is also 5 weeks. She is so loud my husband has taken to sleeping in another room so he can get some rest for work. I have started being able to tell the difference between her sleeping noises and her awake noises so getting better at sleeping through it. Does your baby grunt a lot in his sleep? Ours does but apparently it will settle soon and just them getting used to working out their digestive system. I have no solution unfortunately just preserving until she grows out of it.

MrsTD88 · 27/10/2021 07:07

*not preserving 🤣😴 persevering!

CherLW · 27/10/2021 07:15

@PineappleSun @MrsTD88 My little one used to be so loud!! My mum said to me once ‘I’m surprised you get any sleep if he’s like this’…!! He is 9 weeks this Thursday and he is now almost silent! Now he’s so quiet I wish some of the noise was back as it was some reassurance he was ok.

MrsTD88 · 27/10/2021 07:25

@CherLW oh that's good to know it should pass soon. When did he become quieter? Our first never really slept for the first few weeks as she had terrible colic and when she did she was so exhausted she went into a deep sleep so I have nothing to compare it to. Our baby is really quiet when she naps during the day, I'm constantly checking on her breathing. They have you so worried don't they.

PineappleSun · 27/10/2021 07:26

Thanks ladies, just knowing it's not just us makes it a bit better. I've heard they grow out of it at about 9-10 weeks so we just have to survive about another month!

CherLW · 27/10/2021 07:30

@MrsTD88 I would say in the last week or two..
they really do have us worrying don’t they! I find myself now having a little panic as I don’t hear him.

MrsTD88 · 27/10/2021 07:42

@PineappleSun we've got this!!

@CherLW that's good to know, hopefully will be similar for us. They have you constantly on edge these babies, I don't think we'll ever sleep properly again 🤣😴

Scotti84 · 27/10/2021 10:41

@MrsTD88 @CherLW @PineappleSun
I wear glasses in the day, usually take them off to sleep as they bend out of shape... ive almost not taken them off since Lilly was born! I tried once, but its awful waking up and having to fumble around for specs all the while thinking shes too quiet...need to see her to make sure shes ok

SillyBry · 27/10/2021 18:36

@unicornpower I stressed myself out heaps with my first as the midwives said she should feed for at least 20 mins on each side. She did 10 mins on each side tops and screamed and pushed away if I tried to feed her more.
With the second baby, I don’t even look how long she feeds for. I just let her keep going til she stops! I produce a lot of Milk and both don’t feed for long, so I think they are just efficient feeders.
Sometimes she’ll fuss on the boob suck a bit, pull away, scream. I generally take her off and calm her down. It’s either wind or when she calms down, she’ll either take more calmly or not want it.
It’s tricky reading their signals sometimes!

AdventuresAwait · 28/10/2021 19:24

Hi everyone, has anyone been swimming with their little one yet? Would love to go to the baby pool now she's had her first vaccinations but don't know if it's too early or worth starting now.

CherLW · 28/10/2021 20:46

@AdventuresAwait I haven’t but I would also love too.. I just want to get him used to the water and I hope he’d enjoy it as he loves a bath most of the time.
Would you take your little one to a group or just do your own thing?
I think they are allowed to go anytime after their first jabs aren’t they? I’m sure I’ve heard that before x

Bubbles1st · 28/10/2021 21:18

@AdventuresAwait we haven't yet but there is a lovely little private pool near us you can hire for sole use by the hour. Think we are going to do this as our first experience as a family.

Just going to look up online for safe activities we can do with him without the guidance of a class.

AdventuresAwait · 28/10/2021 21:45

@CherLW, yes I heard after 8 weeks too..I also read that you can do it before but I wanted to wait until after. I love swimming and Hettie likes bath time so I'm hoping she'll love it. Groups at my local leisure centre start at 4 months so I'm planning to take her ourselves for now and get her used to it & then join a group in the new year.

@Bubbles1st Great idea to look up activities to do ourselves, think I'll do that too. How great that you can hire a pool for yourselves! Sounds lovely xx

Bubbles1st · 29/10/2021 02:15

@AdventuresAwait how did Hetties vaccinations go?

AdventuresAwait · 29/10/2021 04:59

@Bubbles1st, they went fine thank you. She settled quickly at the time as I fed and then gave calpol immediately after. It was a bit later when we were home that she got quite upset for a while which was really sad. Once she settled, she's been fine thanks. A normal night tonight (just checked her temperature again and it's fine) so will see how she is when we're up and about in a while. Thanks for asking x

Bubbles1st · 29/10/2021 06:12

@AdventuresAwait pleased it went went as well as it could for you both

CherLW · 29/10/2021 08:11

@AdventuresAwait glad Hetties jabs went ok xx it’s sad seeing them upset isn’t it 😞

I woke up today with a really sore left boob, it feels like there is a big hard lump in it.. I’m trying to slowly massage it whilst Jesse feeds but ouch!! Anyone have any advice?

Bubbles1st · 29/10/2021 08:38

@CherLW ouch! Need to nip it in the bud before it becomes mastitis!

Massage, hot bath or shower, hot compress, pump or hand express between feeds, keep feeding that side. Take paracetamol if you get a fever and ibuprofen to reduce inflammation, speak to GP about antibiotics if it gets hot and fever does get in.

CherLW · 29/10/2021 08:44

Thanks @Bubbles1st I’ll keep an eye on it. I’be just been feeding that side since I woke so I hope it helps.
Think I might hand express some a d take some paracetamol just incase… me and Jesse have a wedding to go to today so don’t want it flaring up 😳

AdventuresAwait · 29/10/2021 09:13

Thank you @CherLW and @Bubbles1st xx

SillyBry · 30/10/2021 22:14

@AdventuresAwait we took Rosie swimming this week.
My advice would be that you want a nice warm pool. If you’re going to a public pool, you probably want to get them a little wetsuit at this age. (Splash about do little neoprene shorty type suits which we put Rosie in.) if you join baby lessons (like water babies), it’ll generally be in a super warm school or hydrotherapy pool, where a normal swimsuit is fine.
We took my eldest and I think it was stimulation overload for Rosie with all the sights and sounds, but she slept well after anyway!
Take some warm clothes and a bottle - or be ready to have the boob out as they are always hungry after.
It’s easier taking them now than in a few months when they start rolling and moving. At least now, you can get them dry and they stay out when you get dressed! 🤣🤣

AdventuresAwait · 31/10/2021 03:12

Thank you @SillyBry, this is really helpful. Classes at our local centre start at 5 months so definitely going to try and book onto that when we can. I just want to start to go beforehand to get her used to it a bit so will find a nice warm pool. We have a little wetsuit and a swimsuit so are ready with both. Thanks again.

Scotti84 · 31/10/2021 11:30

Hi ladies, hope everyone's doing OK!

Another breastfeeding question... electronic pumps, anyone got any experience? I'm getting bored of hand pumping and Lilly has decided she doesn't like my left boob so won't drink from it as often which is killing my right nipple and I'm trying to pump to keep the milk coming... are electric pumps easier or more effective? Any tips etc?

SillyBry · 31/10/2021 12:00

@Scotti84 well done you for persevering with a hand pump. I love my electric pumps.
They are relatively expensive, but I used it daily for over a year with my first born, so it was well worth the cost!
I love medela - they work really well. Like you, I have one boob that Rosie prefers. (The other comes out too fast… so it’s great for pumping but she chokes on it 🤣)
I have a medela single electric pump for my first and I actually upgraded to the double this time round as I found it half price in a sale. A double is the dream - I bought a pumping bra, so I’m hands free and generally get 5/6 oz in around 15 mins. (4oz from one boob and 1/2 from the other usually!) but if you’re planning on expressing long term, it’s well worth the expense 😊
