@CherLW oh bloody hell, exactly the time Lilly sleeps and doesnt want a feed 😅 ill try pumping when i change her nappy at about 3am, see if itll fill up again after. Its awful isn't it! Either they're hard, full and uncomfortable or theyre not hurting but just feel so empty! Yesterday morning they were that full that as i was feeding her, she pulled her head away and the milk just kept spurting out!

I love the night cuddles, we have them early mornings now, she makes little sighing noises and falls asleep looking up at me and she looks so small! It is lovely that someone can feel so happy and safe with me. Another feeling i didnt expect.

CherLW · 25/10/2021 20:18

@Scotti84 I’m not as stressy about feeding him between those times now as I was at the beginning but if it happens it happens. I hate it when they feel empty and he’s kind of head butting them! I had the same! Milk was just squirting out on to his face when he pulled away as they were so full!

Oh I love mornings too!! I get the most smiles in the morning and I love it! Isn’t it a lovely feeling to know they just feel so safe with you! I get emotional looking at him all the time! One of my favourite things if he’s crying or restless and I get close to him and sing he completely calms down and just looks at me 🥲

Noodles4Me · 25/10/2021 23:04

@Sillysocks998 I go by the amount of Fl oz rather than actual bottles. My boy is 9.5 weeks and just about to try on 8 Fl oz but was on 7 Fl oz and could be 5 or 6 bottles of that for a while.

We've also got a tooth coming through! At 9 weeks! I wasn't ready for that!

SillyBry · 25/10/2021 23:51

@Scotti84 mine are the same. They get hard if I miss a feed and at night/if she sleeps longer, but most of the time they feel soft and floppy 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣
But that’s just your body getting used to feeding/regulating your supply. Once I’d been feeding for 4ish months last time, they rarely got hard or felt full, but I always had plenty of milk for baby!
Generally they get more engorged at night as you’re resting so all your energy goes into milk production rather than dashing around etc.
even after pumping, there is still milk there for baby, they just have to work a bit harder to get it!

CherLW · 26/10/2021 17:46

Anyone’s little ones had their 8 week jabs already? Jesse had his today and My heart broke seeing him screaming in pain/shock 😞. He’s had some calpol to hopefully keep away the fever but he’s so upset and restless now… it’s making me so sad.
One good thing is he’s now up to 50th percentile for his weight at 10lb 14oz and he’s 91st for his length!!

AdventuresAwait · 26/10/2021 18:15

@CherLW.. yay! Well done Jesse (& Mum!).
Our little one has her jabs on Thursday... did you give the calpol before or after? How was the baby check? We have that on Thursday too.

CherLW · 26/10/2021 18:22

@AdventuresAwait oh it was so sad, I was on the verge of crying myself!
The nurse said to me to give calpol as soon and you can after the jabs and then two more doses after 4-6 hours apart. The baby check all went well… checked his heart, hips etc and took all his measurements.
My check was very basic…. Mainly just asked if I was ok, if I still had any bleeding and asked me about contraception.
I hope yours goes ok x

AdventuresAwait · 26/10/2021 18:23

@CherLW is Jesse feeling any better now? Xx

AdventuresAwait · 26/10/2021 18:26

Oh @CherLW, sorry to hear it was really sad. It's horrible to see them upset isn't it. Not sure how I'll be on Thursday!
Silly question... but how easy was it to give the calpol?? Not sure how well she'll take it.
Glad all the checks went well xx

CherLW · 26/10/2021 18:30

@AdventuresAwait he’s asleep not but when he wakes up he’s so upset.. I just hope he sleeps as much as he can so he will hopefully feel better.
Oh no, not a silly question at all! I remember having it on a spoon when I was little but now there is a little syringe in the box… I just gently stringed it into his mouth.. although the syringe wasn’t very smooth so come out in quite big bits! He didn’t mind it after the first few bits as it’s sweet.
Thank you xx more in 4 weeks 😭

Sillysocks998 · 26/10/2021 18:31

@CherLW @AdventuresAwait give calpol slowly as they spit it out. Also put babies on the boob at the surgery straight away after to soothe them. 😍. AJ has his 12 week vaccinations next week so we've got Togo through it again. I cried too. It was so sad x

CherLW · 26/10/2021 19:15

@Sillysocks998 I tried really hard to get the calpol to come out really slow but the syringe wasn’t overly smooth.
It’s so heartbreaking 😞 I hope AJ’s next ones go ok.

Also jesse had drops of a live vaccine and they said it’s in his saliva for 48 hours so could give it to me if I had any on my hand or got into my mouth etc?!

Bubbles1st · 26/10/2021 19:26

@CherLW my boy had his jabs today, he screamed and had big tears for about 30 seconds and that thankfully was all as that was bad enough! He has been fine but sleepy since. He did feel a bit warm earlier so I gave him a second dose of calpol.

Hoping he sleeps ok!

Noodles4Me · 26/10/2021 19:36

@Bubbles1st exactly same here too. Boy had his jabs today and reacted just like yours.

Just keeping my eye on him now. Jabs were at 3pm but fever can peak after 6 hours apparently- I'm braced for a rough night just in case.

CherLW · 26/10/2021 19:37

@Bubbles1st thankfully he settled for you after 30 seconds. Jesse settled quite quick too but oh it’s so sad.
Jesse just had his second dose of calpol as he’s a bit warm. He’s definitely not himself, isn’t overly interested in feeding either 😞

SillyBry · 26/10/2021 20:25

@CherLW it's bloody horrid isn't it?! I remember feeling heartbroken.

Have you had the post vax poo yet? I remember them being really chemical smelling!!!

And the calpol syringes are like shooting the poor kid in the tonsils it comes out so fast!

We have our 6 week check on Thursday and then 8 week jabs in 2 weeks. I can't believe that its come round so fast!

Kirky658 · 26/10/2021 20:33

@cherlw hope Jesse feels better soon, Alice was so unsettled too. Lots of cuddles helped and the calpol works wonders. On the live vaccine orally, make sure you wash your hands fully after each nappy change for the next week or so my nurse said. Also the first post vaccine poo is vile!!!

AdventuresAwait · 26/10/2021 21:31

Ok thanks @CherLW, @Sillysocks998 and everyone for the information and advice. Not looking forward to it but it is good to know things in advance.

How's everyone doing? Xx

SillyBry · 26/10/2021 21:59

@Kirky658 my eldest is 4.5 years old and I still remember the first post vax poo 🤢🤢🤣🤣

CherLW · 26/10/2021 22:04

@SillyBry the syringes aren’t great, I feel I had more control second dose tho so hopefully it was better for him 😂

@Kirky658 he had a poo about 2 hours after and it was a big one!! There was an odd smell, I hope that’s the worst one!
Yeh nurse told me about hand washing so fully on board with that and I’ve always got hand gel around and in the nappy bag. Hope Alice is doing well x

Jesse is much more settled now thank goodness… I hope he gets a good nights sleep so he’s back to his happy self in the morning.

Sillysocks998 · 26/10/2021 23:04

@CherLW oh they never said anything to me, even got me a private room to feed in lol. I have felt fine since but if that's the advice they gave you then take it definitely xxx

unicornpower · 26/10/2021 23:21

@Kirky658 what’s the reasoning behind the hand washing? I’m guilty of just whacking on hand gel! Hope you’ve had a nice break!

Billie is having her jabs soon too, our practice is teaming it with our 6 week check, so it will actually be an 8 week check. I’m so excited to get back to exercise! Do they check you’ve healed okay does anyone know? I had 2nd degree tearing and no one has checked healing so far! Anyone have any tips for establishing breastfeeding at 6 weeks? We started bottle feeding her expressed milk when she was 3 weeks as she couldn’t cope with my aggressive let down, now she’s a bit bigger we are giving it another go. She was fine today except for this evening when she got so fussy wind screamed a lot. Do I just assume if she’s not interested in the boob then she’s full? She feeds for like 10-20 mins at a time and could be anything between 1-3 hours between feeds

CherLW · 27/10/2021 02:16

@unicornpower I mainly just hand gel wash too. When they told me about hand washing they just said in general snd not specifically after a nappy…. Again so many differences depending on trust.

At my check they didn’t check if I had healed correctly. I had a second degree tear and episiotomy. They just asked how I felt and it’s all fine so I just said that.. I guess if it was still uncomfortable or anything then they may check for you?

Does Billie cry at the boob when she’s not interested? It sounds to me that if she’s feeding for about 20ish mins every 1-3 hours and she’s not upset then she must just be full.
When you said she’s fussy and screamed a lot, I used to get that with Jesse as he would take in too much air when feeding or feed too fast so taking in more air.

unicornpower · 27/10/2021 03:45

@CherLW yeah, so she will de latch or refuse to latch and if I try again she squeals and starts crying! I check for wind and sometimes she needs a burp but others she doesn’t! I’m trying to keep her on longer but it’s tricky! I find it hard to go from knowing what she’s eating to not knowing. She’s always been a fusspot but it is so much better with her just on the boob as she feeds a lot calmer. I guess I just need to persevere!

PineappleSun · 27/10/2021 04:31

Does anyone else have an incredibly noisy sleeper? He's not bad at sleeping and starting to get into a more predictable pattern but is so unbelievably noisy that I cannot sleep when he does. Already using earplugs but his noises are about as loud as crying so doesn't really help. Once he's been up for his 2-3am feed that's me awake for the day even though he'll go back down until 6 ish. Desperate for a solution here before we end up kicking him out of our room at only 5 weeks :(
