I've got a stretchy sling that is basically the only thing Clementine will tolerate at the moment (she hates the pram, car seat, bouncy chair...) they are supposed to be very close, I watched a fair few safety videos on YouTube! Boba is the make of the one I have.

I would like to try a more structured carrier, does anyone use one that they would recommend?

AdventuresAwait · 13/10/2021 16:12

@bewitchingnight, ergobaby omni breeze is structured but I'm waiting until our little one is a little bigger to use it, even though it's fine for this weight. I've just ordered a stretchy one for around the house and can't wait to try it.

Scotti84 · 13/10/2021 18:34

@FTEngineerM ive got a manduca xt, thats not me in the pic. Its ok for newborn to 3 years, you can do it on the hip and back too, and it feels very strong and safe when its on, maybe i just need to get used to it.

What are the slings like? Are they ones you have to tie yourself or is it already together?

Scotti84 · 13/10/2021 18:36

Thanks @crobo87 @bewitchingnight, might have to look into a sling too.

crobo87 · 13/10/2021 18:39

@Scotti84 mine is already together
It's this one;

Koala Babycare Easy-to-wear Baby... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07G85PQ5J?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

There's just one bit you have to tie but the main section is already together, I can't fault it at all.

FTEngineerM · 14/10/2021 08:45

Oooo that looks very versatile @Scotti84 I’m on the look out for a buckle type one. Yeah the stretchy sling you wrap around yourself and then tie, it’s a bit of an Olympic sport. I like it but I can’t imagine it lasting too long 😬

Just bought a back carrier with a frame for DS1 so DP can wear him when he gets unruly tired up the mountain. Excited to give that a go.

Scotti84 · 14/10/2021 11:02

@FTEngineerM I like it, just need to get used to it I guess, I wanted one that I could change about, I like the idea of carrying her on my hip so she can see things but i can also see her.

@crobo87 I've ordered one of these, thanks for the tip. I like the idea it's already built, less chance for Lilly to fall out of it 😅

Kirky658 · 14/10/2021 14:18

On the carrier chat, we've got a caboo sling it is very good and comfortable!

Had Alice up hospital again all yesterday. They wanted to investigate as she was still vomiting really badly and my gp sent us straight up there. They've said it is just bad reflux but my god the amount of sick she is throwing up it is almost a full feed at times.they've prescribed her omaprezole for the pain but she HATES it and it makes her cry 😭

Scotti84 · 14/10/2021 15:05

Oh no @Kirky658 sorry to hear that. Being sick as an adult when we know what's going on is horrible so i can only imagine how it is for a baby.

crobo87 · 14/10/2021 20:52

@Kirky658 sorry to hear Alice is suffering.
Have a look at rockabyereflux on Instagram they have some great advice & tips regarding reflux

SillyBry · 14/10/2021 21:30

@Scotti84 I have an ergo baby with a newborn insert. It’s more structured than a wrap, but my eldest went in it occasionally til she was 4, so it’s very versatile.
It’s been a godsend when I can’t put Rosie down and I need to cook tea etc!

For those talking about 6 week checks, mine is face fo face at 6 weeks. However, I wouldn’t get your hopes up about the dr giving you a thorough check. With my first, the dr pretty much asked if everything felt ok, was I tearful and don’t forget to sort contraception out.
I’ve actually booked a women’s physio appointment for 8 weeks for a full post partum check to clear me for exercise as I’m fully aware the gp won’t be interested!

Scotti84 · 15/10/2021 12:47

@crobo87 my sling came today, I love it! And Lilly does too! It holds her close too but she looks out so her nose and mouth are clear which is much better. Thanks for the recommendation!

crobo87 · 15/10/2021 12:50

@Scotti84 you are welcome...glad you like it, I love mine 😊

Suma2021 · 17/10/2021 21:15

Just to say my September 21st baby became an October baby, born Sunday 10th 1.07am weighing 7.1lbs. We named him Robbie (formally Robert).
Labour did happen spontaneously eventually without a sweep / induction but it was super long and exhausting. Ended up having forceps delivery with spinal and episiotomy. Followed by a few days in hospital on my own with a bladder catheter, which I found pretty hard.

Having finally experienced this myself and now going through recovery I feel an immense admiration and respect for women who give birth, also partners who support and watch the whole thing. It was the hardest and scariest experience of my life but also the most amazing and emotional. So congratulations to all Mums out there for being so badass, and partners who are also heroes.

We're home now and absolutely in love with our little boy, but I'm really struggling with episiotomy pain and also an entirely separate back/hip pain that popped up around day 3 after birth and feels like a severe nerve pain when walking.

Does anyone have any good tips for healing from the episiotomy?
I've got a squirty bottle for rinsing down the area, plus witch hazel for gently dabbing and I'm trying to keep the area as clean and dry as possible but starting to get impatient and frustrated. Paracetamol is useless. I just want to be able to get up easily to feed and change him without feeling like my stitches are going to split each time and having annoying pain 🙄

KHR1 · 17/10/2021 22:27

@Suma2021 sorry other than what you are already doing and sitting on a donut cushion, I don't have any tips for the episiotomy but wanted to offer some solidarity as I really struggled with mine this time. I had one with DC1 which didn't really bother me much but this time it seems to have been much more painful and over 5 weeks pp still isn't fully healed, the pain is pretty much gone though.

Taybz · 17/10/2021 23:54

Hi ladies, I haven't been on here for ages as I've generally found having a newborn quite a shock to the system although we're absolutely smitten. I have so many questions and constantly feel anxious that I'm not doing things right. Baby Tyler always seems to be hungry despite being breastfeed for upto an hour at a time sometime proceeding aptamil. Also, I feel like my breasts just aren't supplying him with enough. He has gained his birth weight and then some but I don't understand why he's constantly hungry! Is this normal? I already feel guilty that we introduced combi feeding after a traumatic c-section which hospitalised me for a further week.

Clouless · 18/10/2021 02:13

Hello everyone. Congratulations on all the new arrivals! Hope you are all doing well.
Our baby boy arrived very punctually on his due date, September 21st. We were booked in for a section on the 22nd due to him being breech but he decided to try and come early resulting in an earlier, emergency csection! 💙
@Taybz- I am exclusively breast feeding, which is relentless! Sometimes he only goes an hour between feeds. The midwife told me that is normal when they are so small and just to go with it! He had gained weight at 5 days from his birth weight though, so at least I'm not feeding in vain!

Scotti84 · 18/10/2021 09:07

@Taybz tell me about it! Ive never googled so much in my life! How old is Tyler now? Lilly still has her phases where she will eat literally non stop, she falls asleep on the boob, I put her down, she was up and wants more, but they do seem to coincide with the growth spurts and it is getting less now shes a bit older (like 6 weeks is old) 😅 its amazing how quick they change and grow.
I top up with formula though, sometimes i just dont have enough or my nips are so sore then ill do a quick bottle and she's happy with that. DH is back at work today so lets see how i cope on my own! Its been great in our little family bubble!

Kirky658 · 18/10/2021 09:45

@taybz @scotti84 mumsnet and Google are my best friends 🤣 and Netflix...

Scotti84 · 18/10/2021 10:00

@Kirky658 tell me about it, i've finished desperate housewives now im on the last season of Lost. How are you both doing? Is Alice back to normal pooping or still a work in progress?

Kirky658 · 18/10/2021 10:24

@scotti84 I'm making my way through dinner date it's my ultimate guilty pleasure 🤣 and started watching this squid games too.

Alice still isn't back to normal. She was on the lactulose for a week so taken her off it now, she hasn't been again since Saturday but trying not to worry about it too much as we can start her on it again if needed. She won't take the omeprazole for the reflux as she doesn't like it so that's not helping ofc! Im not doing well at all to be honest, I am asking my gp to up my medication as I'm still no better. But my counsellor is hopefully referring me to someone specialised who can talk to me about how the birth and aftermath affected me so hopefully that will help. I have also dropped to 2 expression sessions a day with a view to stopping completely very soon.

How are you both getting on?

FTEngineerM · 18/10/2021 10:40

He has gained his birth weight and then some but I don't understand why he's constantly hungry! Is this normal?

Eurgggh, yes unfortunately, its shit @Taybz it’s like a phenomenal secret that you only find out after 😂.

I’ve done a 180😃🙊 I was upset that I had to stop, then carried on for a bit but he’s so bloody happy when on formula I’m going to combi. It doesn’t look like cmpa so it won’t be a problem in that sense.

Got the doctor ringing me today about the fact I feel overwhelmed/cry all the fucking time(!)/don’t really feel like I’m bonding with him because he cries all the time and I feel a bit nervous😬don’t even know why..

Taybz · 18/10/2021 12:11

@Scotti84 Tyler is 3 weeks now. I Google everything too but goodness me it's a minefield! My questions are endless and everything worries me! When did lily have her growth spurt? Tyler will fall asleep on my boob but not let go or peck at it but maybe not actually drinking? 🤔

@Kirky658 oh yes, good old Netflix. Any good shows you recommend? How's little Alice doing now?

@FTEngineerM Tyler gets fuller much quicker on formula but I feel judged for topping up with it. I can't get the midwive's disappointed face out of my mind when I told her I topped up with it and she said 'well it's done now'. I was in hospital for a week without my baby and had to rely on it alongside expressed milk so had no choice. Also, in terms of using formula as a top up, do you use less? We use 2 spoons per 2fl but I wonder if it's too little. His grandma seems to think it should be less because it's in addition to breast milk.

FTEngineerM · 19/10/2021 07:08

@Taybz yeah that’s normal it comes out easier so they don’t have to spend so long sucking. I’m sorry you feel judged, just remember literally nobody will give a crap as soon as he turns one. Infant feeding is a hot topic until they hit one and then suddenly nobody cares or talks about it for the rest of their lives so honestly don’t give it a moments thought ❤️. Do you mean less formula per oz of water or less formula when made up? Always go by the packet instructions for making it so it’s usually a scoop per oz but maybe it’s different with yours so double check. There’s no way of knowing how much is coming out of the breast really so how many oz do you too up with a day?

OP posts:
KHR1 · 19/10/2021 11:39

@Taybz we top up but still use the same ratio of water to formula that it suggests on the tin. Even though Zach has quite a bit of formula (usually 1oz formula to every 3oz breast milk, then one full 4oz formula before bed) he still seems hungry allllll the time. I was trying to breast feed some of the time instead of expressing all the time but found he would feed for an hour then cry after about 10 minutes for another feed so I decided it was easier to just express.
