@SillyBry @Kat1112025 thanks ladies. I’m going to have a look at the microwave sterilising bags and also the MAM self sterilising ones.
I’ve got the MAM self sterilising dummies which is the same, just in a tub in the microwave, so easy!

Room temperature sounds ideal? Don’t want to make things harder for myself and make him want it always warm!!

Taybz · 05/10/2021 11:46

Thanks @MrsTD88 they sent me home with Co-dydramol but it made me so constipated so I swapped it to paracetamol and ibuprofen. Also having lactulose. I'm a bit worried my scar may be infected on the left side though as it now feels tough whereas before it was a smooth line. How did you find feeding the first time round?

MrsTD88 · 05/10/2021 14:43

@Taybz would it be worth asking your doc for something stronger for a few days to help manage the pain? The dihydrocodeine made me sick so the docs gave me anti sickness tablets which were fab. If you have any concerns about your scar you should double check with your midwife or maternity assessment just to be sure, they are always happy to check. It may just be a little swollen? I found feeding so tough the first time round, my milk never really came in and baby lost too much weight so I switched to formula after a week. I could have persisted but it made me so anxious and down it just wasn't worth my sanity. I just wanted a fed, content baby.

Noodles4Me · 05/10/2021 16:08

Bottles are not a faff with the Perfect Prep machine...trust me it's a god send 🙏

(Midwives whine about it but new parents don't!)

Kirky658 · 05/10/2021 16:42

Sorry haven't been on ladies been really struggling last few days to cope, not doing well at all. Tablets are making me feel worse atm and counselling isn't really helping too. Just feel useless and keep arguing with DH as we are tired. Fed up of relying on my parents to help me every day. Why can't I do it alone, others manage fine?!

Also. Anyone else's little one struggling with sleeping at night?! Alice has gone from 4 hourly feeds to 2-3 hourly again for some bizarre reason and really unsettled at night. Thought it was a growth spurt but its been going on loads longer.

@Noodles4Me I went out and bought one today, Orlaith screams the house down waiting for a bottle. It has been a headache saver already!!
MrsTD88 · 05/10/2021 18:23

@Kirky658 sorry you're not feeling great. Please don't beat yourself up. I firmly believe in the saying it takes a village to raise children, it's fine to have help and to accept help. We barely get any sleep at night too, Orlaith doesn't go longer than 3 hours between feeds so the nights are tough!

Rach921 · 05/10/2021 20:42

Hey ladies. I can finally join this thread after my little boy Henry arrived on Sunday, 10 days late!

Any advice on breastfeeding is welcome. My milk is just starting to come in but I’m in so much pain when he latches. It just makes me cry so much. I got so overwhelmed earlier with it, probably not helped with lack of sleep and hormones! We are only on day 3 and I dread him wanting to feed as the pain is getting too much 😭

Scotti84 · 05/10/2021 20:57

@Kirky658 just as you think they get settled, they change their routine again! Im dreading it when DH goes back to work, we've got a good routine atm where we both get sleep but when he works again hes gonna need to sleep properly and i have no idea how im going to do it.

Hang on in there with the meds. They'll start to work at some point. I hope things start looking up for you soon x

AdventuresAwait · 05/10/2021 22:53

@Rach921, congratulations! Just a quick note after reading your post as I'm breastfeeding and have experienced what you've described.
My baby is nearly 5 weeks and feeding is fine but at the beginning it was painful when she latched on. Midwives said it was that my nipples had to get used to it, almost 'toughen up' the more I fed. It was quite painful at times and I didn't look forward to feeding but then gradually it did ease and it isn't painful. I think the first 2 weeks were most difficult.
That was my experience and I don't know if it can be something else but I wanted you to know that it can ease and there's hope!

AdventuresAwait · 05/10/2021 22:54

@Rach921, I also used a nipple balm after feeds which helped xx

Scotti84 · 06/10/2021 04:31

Just a quick question, so im getting used to the fact that babies make a lot of noise when they sleep, but the last couple of nights it sounds like Lilly has a cold or sore throat, but not all the time. She'll either make creaky noises or she'll be silent and sleep quietly. Should i be worried? Shes eating normally and seems fine in herself. Another new unknown!

crobo87 · 06/10/2021 09:14

@Scotti84 I was literally coming on to write the same thing. I'm pretty certain Oscar has silent reflux (have a look at the symptoms)
I'm speaking with our GP today

Scotti84 · 06/10/2021 10:17

@crobo87 ive had a look, Lilly has a few of the symptoms but not enough for me to be completely convinced... I think its something to do with feeding and milk though, sometimes theres no sound at all and others its like she cant clear her throat or needs a good cough. She had a bit of snot in her nose yesterday but its not running and not overly blocked. I'll feel so much better when she can talk and tell us what she needs! I'll be interested to know what your gp says if that's OK?

crobo87 · 06/10/2021 10:22

Yes of course. We have an appointment at 11:40 x

AdventuresAwait · 06/10/2021 12:17

@Scotti84, @crobo87, I'm also interested in this as my little one has some nasal congestion. I assumed it was a cold but now I'm wondering as she does hiccup, gag and brings milk back up sometimes. Not sure though xx

Scotti84 · 06/10/2021 12:24

@AdventuresAwait @crobo87 it does make me feel better that a few of us are in the same boat. Another one of these is this normal baby stuff or should I be doing something about it things!

AdventuresAwait · 06/10/2021 12:44

Yes that's how I feel too @Scotti84!

bewitchingnight · 06/10/2021 12:50

Congrats @Rach921 I would second the recommend for nipple balm, put it on before and after every feed. It will get less painful, I think your nipples need to get used to it a bit. I'd also suggest asking literally every midwife you come in contact with to watch you feed as everyone has different tips! Also I got blisters after the first few days because our latch wasn't great and now I'm using nipple shields - baby putting weight on and feeding well so they work for us and it's much less painful.

AdventuresAwait · 06/10/2021 13:14

@Rach921, I agree with @bewitchingnight about advice from midwives! I'd forgotten but I had to feed during a midwife visit and she gave me advice that changed the feeds and really helped. I wouldn't have known if she hadn't seen me feeding x

Squibble84 · 06/10/2021 13:39

@Rach921 lansinoh nipple balm is amazing, it got me through the first few weeks when I bf DD1. I do remember the pain though and it’s horrible but it does get much easier after a few weeks.

Sorry I’ve not been on much, we’ve had a right old time of it the last few weeks. We all got norovirus when Leo was 10 days old and since then he’s picked up 2 colds, had a ambulance trip to hospital for a raging fever and several gp appointments. The latest one today gp said that the norovirus wiped his immune system out and it will take a few months for it to sort itself out, in the meantime he’s much more susceptible to bugs! Also said he’s got post infection irritable bowel which is why he’s now got colic/reflux and constant diarrhoea. He was so chill before he got sick and now I feel like it’s Groundhog Day of mucus, diarrhoea, high temperatures and vomit - and it might be weeks before he’s back to normal! 😭 I’m so tired I’m averaging 3 hours sleep a night and no rest in the day as I’ve got my very demanding 2 year old at home! Only coffee and chocolate are getting me through!

Hope everyone is doing ok! Xx

crobo87 · 06/10/2021 14:44

I went to see the Gp who sent us to A&e 🙈
She was concerned that he was pulling his chest in when he breaths.we have seen the registrar who is pretty convinced it is reflux as the snorting and congestion is generally better when he's sat up.
However, did say it could be the start of bronchilitus (his chest is clear at the moment) but has given us open access to the ward for a few days

We have been given infant gaviscon to try for the reflux.

Scotti84 · 06/10/2021 17:25

@crobo87 oh bloody hell, that's not great news, but at least you got him checked out. What's the difference between pulling the chest in and normal breathing? Lillys sleeping now with no problems so it does look like it's more after she's eaten and sleeps that it happens to her, so some kind of reflux is probably likely, I think I'll see how she is over the next couple of days and ask my midwife if she can pop round. Hope things improve with the gaviscon x

crobo87 · 06/10/2021 17:32

@Scotti84 don't quote me as I'm not 100% certain but I think it's a sign that they are having to work harder to breathe.

He's ok generally if he's asleep more propped up, like in his car seat or swing but laying him flat is a nightmare 🙈

AdventuresAwait · 06/10/2021 17:51

Oh @crobo87, hope he's OK and the Gaviscon helps.

My little one is fine laying flat but her chest sometimes goes in a little when breathing. I thought it was normal. Did they say much about it at A&E?
