Have noticed lots of other 04 months but not June so thought I would get it going DS was born on June 17th. He is totally different to how DD was so its like starting over again! He's growing fast but seems to get very bored and frustrated at not being able to do much. He's just starting jars of baby food but tends to have a bit of a sweet tooth!! He's also a gemini and definately seems to have two personalities in there - he can stare at you and go from wobbly bottom lip/about to burst into tear to huge grin in a second!! How are other the other June babies getting on?

Zebra, I manage by gritting my teeth and trying not to shout as much as I want to. Oh and by reviving my strong Java drinking habits. Unfortunately I like it with sugar so my teeth are going to be blackened stumps soon too. Along with the eyebags I'll look gorgeous .

To put you out of your misery a bit, we've been on the HB and the BF lists at various times. I remember your no2 being born when i was pregnant with mine. You probably don't remember me that well cos I'm quite quiet .

cathncait · 28/11/2004 13:15

hi all
WEll Grace has managed to sprout 2 teeth now! And, I am not exagerating at all here, she is beginning to crawl! I know it sounds like rubbish but its true! I keep telling her she is only 5 months old but who ever listens to their mother right?! She half crawls half drags herself across the floor to get to whatever has caught her eye at the time. It concerns me. 2 mobile children...oh well, was bound to happen sooner or later - but I was hoping for at least a little bit later! Hope you are all doing well, we're just staring to get some hot summer weather here - took the kids to the pool today and it was really enjoyable for everyone.
Don't have much other news so will try and do something exciting so I have something to say soon .

Skara · 28/11/2004 19:50

eek Cath, rather you than me . I am thinking of tying J down so he doesn't learn to crawl, because it won't be long here either.

On another subject, he has NO interest in solids - argh. Have tried carrot, pear and rice with expressed milk - he thinks I'm trying to poison him.

monkeygirl · 29/11/2004 10:52

Crikey Cathncait - with dd1 I couldn't wait for her to crawl/walk etc but this time round I really don't mind if he takes his time!!

We have had a house of lurgys for over a week now. A had a hard time for a while and went right off his milk as well but the antibiotics finally kicked in after a couple of days and he now seems to just have a little cough/cold, although his appetite is nowhere near what it was. DD1 has also had a bad cough/cold but reacted so badly - for 3 nights on the trot she would wake up sobbing but not letting us hug her and proceeded to get up every 15 mins or so one night. Then I got it and now dh has it - whoopee! I was just beginning to feel human yesterday but A decided to get up at 5am this morning - nice. Respect to all you ladies who are getting up several times a night continually.

A is also sitting up and only falls over every now and then (once I hadn't put a cushion behind him in time ). I can tell he's better because he has started that bloody screaming again . Zebra - when does it stop??

Skara - A wasn't impressed with solids at first but he nows launches himself at the spoon as long as it's apple/pear and nothing I've cooked for him!!!

karen01 · 29/11/2004 18:09

No signs of crawling here. Scott isn't even rolloing yet!!. He can sit up on the sofa sits quite nicley against the back. he also likes the Tweenies, when he heres it he goes mad. I have started to sing MIss POlly has a Dolly to him and he likes that. But over the past two days I have been singing Roundand round the garden he laughs really loud and shouts as soon as I start to sing it. It is soo cute. he is teething big style although no sign of the teeth coming, he has even started to munch on a rusk and holds it himself that is soo sweet also.

Must go tea has just arrived
take care all

XenaWP · 29/11/2004 22:28

wow - no signs of teeth here, Ava is rolling & does a sort of stranded doggy paddle on her front, but doesn't see any movement bar a sort of shimmy sideways! she's so smiley, really lovely, we're now trying all sorts of things to get her to laugh, which she teases us with now & then, but rarely does.
as for solids, she's munching away at everything I put in front of her. Only thing is that she's dropped to 9th centile - now HV didn't seem too worried, & I'm not as she seems fine, but (there's always a but) I am wondering if she's not getting enough milk at the moment. I'm doing 3 bfs a day & 1 formula & she's eating 2 cubes of solids at lunch & 2 at supper with some rice. Any thoughts anyone? it's so hard to tell how much she's drinking when most of it's bf.

monkeygirl · 30/11/2004 15:00

XenaWP- I have given up bfing now but I do 5 formula feeds a day and one meal of a teaspoon or 3/4 of some fruit/veg mush which all seems to satisfy my little barrel. Is she sleeping a few hours in a row? If she's not 'asking' for more milk then I'm sure she's fine. I seem to remember that once they reach the 2/3 meals a day stage they need to have about a pint of milk a day (although I know it's hard to tell with bfing) but if Ava seems happy then she must be ok!

A is much better now (finally) but he is still not back to eating as much as he did and now needs a bottle at about 5:30am which he hasn't done since the beg of Oct!. Still no interest in rolling. He also loves 'round and round the garden' and is a right giggler, as well as screamer! And for some reason I have felt at least 10 years older over the past few weeks - this whole thing is exhausting now that A needs more attention.

that's a gorgeous name secur!
Finlay here is turning into a monster! He's decided that when he sees something he wants he has to have it. Now. Or he gets really stroppy and throws himself backwards!! He's trying to roll but cant get right over, but he really hates being on the floor - he wants to be sitting up all the time which can be a pain when i need to get stuff done! He's onto two jars a day with a bottle of milk in the morning and at night and juice in the day. He's getting smilier but only really laughs when dd plays with him - mummy and daddy obviously arent fun enough!!!

Secure- That is a lovely name. There is alittle girl here called Ellisia, but everyone calls her Lissy.

zebra · 30/11/2004 18:15

Xena I firmly believe that babies don't starve themselves. DD has also always been a piggie & also on 9th percentile! So much a piggie I don't know where it all goes... I have great trouble understanding people who say their children barely eat, It's usually really plump kids who are labeled as "non-eaters", have you noticed??? Presumably they have the reserves to be fussy.

Compulsive Sitting is better than compulsive standing, Zcat. I wish Tristan liked to sit. I have the permanent leg-lock baby, instead.

Nothing to be embarrassed about, secur. I wanted Raymond or Calvin for Tristan, you should have seen the "yuck!" faces that "Raymond" produced.

zebra · 30/11/2004 18:50

ps: how much do your little blighters weigh? T. was 16 lb+1.5 oz last Thursday (23 weeks).

Skara · 30/11/2004 19:00

Secur, that's a lovely name :-)

Zebra, J weighs about 18 or 19lb (say 18.5?). Hoever he's only been weighed properly once, when he was 16 days old, so I can only do a vague weight by weighing him on my bathroom scales.

monkeygirl · 30/11/2004 21:57

Aw that's a lovely name Secur - why be embarassed.

No idea what Alex weighs but everyone always greats him with a 'he's a big boy' so he ain't light I guess

ZC - you're ds eats well! I sometimes still don't give Alex solids and he really doesn't seem to care or fuss. He also has a permanent arm outstretched to see what he can grasp in his little mitts and he's never happier than when it's a tissue or newspaper to chew or a hot cup of coffee to pull. And he hero-worships his sister - wonder how long that will last.

monkeygirl · 30/11/2004 21:58

I mean greets!

Bogwoppit · 01/12/2004 00:19

no rolling here. DD can sit mostly unaided, bt much prefers to stand. she'll stand for ages holding hands or the sofa. watches her big bro constantly with this look on her face as if she is thinking "how does he do that? I wanna do that" as he races round the room.

dd is still exclusively BF. was 14lb4oz @ 22 weeks. gooing to go fo rthe baby led weaning a sI am in no rush to be pureeing food - would rather go straight to finger foods! lazy? moi?

she's such a calm baby - loves being carried in her coorie pouch sling. & I am in love with her cloth bum.

had her christened last weekend which was lovely. a seperate service just for our firends & fmaily then back to ours for food & drink.
She wore the same dress I was christened in & a nappy made specially.

Had Scott weighed this morning he weighs 15lb 2oz. just over 23weeks.
He is starting to roll over onto his side but can't go any further yet!!!.

zebra · 01/12/2004 20:44

"baby led weaning" -- is that like when you hand them a pizza crust and they slobber on it, completely engrossed for the next half an hour?
I guess we've started solids, but slowly. Reading about someo the other babies on so many jars/day makes me feel less guilty. Anal retentive, I'm logging it here, since 20 weeks I think: 2 gnaws on apple cores, one gnaw on a banana, one skinned pea smeared on my finger, few drops (literally) of apple juice, peach juice, cow's milk & wine -- DH confesses! But the pizza crust was the first big hit I will try (but probably fail) to hold off on any more for another 2 weeks.

I feel guilty I can never get to 6 months, it's just too easy to offer things.

karen01 · 02/12/2004 06:12

Zebra- I felt guilty about giving food to Scott at 16weeks, but then I thought if he didn't want it he wouldn't take it. Then speaking to some of the other mams here alot of them started to give pureed fruit, veg at about 10weeks.!!!

Going to go and attack the housework now.

navynic · 02/12/2004 08:56

i have ds1 (14years now) i was advised to ween him at 3months!
I have ds2 (2.5yrs) and the advise was to wean at 4 months
now with ds3 (5mths) the advice is weaning at 6months!

i had to give ds1 food (rusk) at nine weeks old because he wouldnt drink formula (i was breastfeeding)and he was hungry! there was no worries about gluten back then! (strawberries actually)

ds 2 i managed to wait until almost 4mths but still had to give him small amounts of food to settle him a week or two before he got to 16weeks!

ds3 i started weaning at 4 months and he wasn't demanding it but the older 2 do not have a single health or dietary problem.

all babies are individual, some advice is good but sometimes i feel its just about giving someone something to do!

Gomez · 02/12/2004 08:58

Morning All,

I know, I know missing in action again. Time is just flying by now.

Good that everyone seems to be doing well and I am impressed at the activity of all the other babies. Lily sits really well know and makes no effort to do anything else. Well the odd stretch to the side to pick up a random toy perhaps but that is about it. She has now got two teeth, both popped out at the same time so we had one day of a really grumpy girl and then back to normal. Such a plesant change from DD who was 3 month older and seemed to be teeting from about 10 weeks - well that was our excuse anyway, maybe she was just a grump! She weighs just under 23lbs now so continues to be a podger. Eating well and very partial to a plate of soup which makes life v. easy since it is winter I always seem to have soup made. But also quite likes a bit garlic nan to chomp on - which I am sure will be up there in the 'goodness' stakes with pizza zebra .

DD1 has been poorly for weeks now and is currently almost see-through as she is so pale. Have to take her for blood test tomorrow so not looking forward to that at all. Hoping just some random virus thing which had floored her.

Bogwoppit - christning sounds lovely. Cute touch on the nappy front. We have given them up during the day I am afraid as Lily is so big I just couldn't get her into both a nappy and clothes at the same time. Well at least clothes that didn't drown her. Still use them at night thou and will hopefully revert when she slims down a bit.

Right of to express some milk and make porridge for breakfast. Take care all.

navynic · 02/12/2004 09:00

ds3 is like scott
hes 24 weeks now (born 4 wks early at 8lb14.5) and week 23 he weighed in at 17lb9oz he can get all the way over but usually stops on his side!

he has actually dropped a centile nowbut is still gaining weight.

monkeygirl · 02/12/2004 21:22

Welcome navynic - love the name btw. Is it to do with job or colour??

I was thinking about all this weaning business today and how the advice changes every few years - interesting to see it was once 3 months and I wonder if there has ever been any research into whether those kids have more allergy than later ones. But aren't allergies increasing more and more nowadays? How do they take 'modern life' with all the extra chemicals etc out of the equation?

Anyway, my little barrel surprisingly is becoming more and more underwhelmed by the whole eating business. I just hope he's not going to be just a milk addict (which would be complete opposite of dd1).

Gomez - sorry to hear about dd1. Both mine have been ill for weeks. DD1 has had colds, coughs and slapped cheek so far! And have just found out that she does actually have an allergy to something (has come out in a nettle-type rash 3 times recently) but we will probably never find out what as they only do tests on life-threatening cases. Ds seems to have finally shaken the cough and chest infection.

Come on then own up - who's done all their Xmas shopping? Are you buying your los anything?? I'm getting him just some of those blocks with 'interesting' things in them (Elc or Fisher Price thingys)

Skara · 02/12/2004 21:34

hi navynic nice to see a new face!

Gomez, remind me not to come round to yours for porridge - I prefer mine with brown sugar and cream rather than ebm .

Nice to see you back BW - was trying for the babyled weaning thing too, thinking when J sucked like mad on an apple core he was ready for something more exciting. However all offerings of mush have been summarily rejected and instead this week he's eaten a couple of baby rice cakes by gumming them to death. Pizza crusts are probably next on his list...

more later, have promised myself an early night!
