Thought I'd start off the new thread as I've never started one before - congratulations to those of you who are on here now - hope I'll be joing you in the not-too-distant future!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
suey2 · 29/01/2008 11:26

loucee it was definitely the actimel for us- very bloated and farty we were! No other changes to our diet or lifestyle so we stopped taking it after 2 weeks. Live yoghurt works for me, though as i said.

Off to get millie's passport this morning- it is going to be so weird to have an official document for her- her photo is sooo cute. Then we will book a holiday- bring it on.

Lizzer · 29/01/2008 12:49

Suey, how strange that i had a dream last night we were at airport then suddenly realised we hadn't got ds a passport and tried to smuggle him on plane! Must be dreaming of holidays too!

Buzzy, round of applause on the reusables (and for everyone who's aready doing them) i'm wating til 12w now...shocking really..let me know how you're getting on...

Insy, well done girl we won't be far behind you but need a yr to recover at least!

Beanster and Loucee, i hope what you say is right,ds now feeding every half an hour to an hour and has been since sunday, this might be the 6w growth spurt then he'll chill his boots next week! (fingers crossed)

Claireyb, just read your thread, glad things are getting sorted now

meme, def get bleeding checked out. I hope you can get your lo's feeding sorted, remember though that some bf babies put on weight at a slower rate at the beginning but it evens itself out in the end. Its a shame we even have these charts as they aren't little robots and shouldn't be made to follow a line..

So I'd like to be a proud mummy for a minute. After topping up one feed with formula every eve since 5 days when my first bout of mastitis happened and my milk plumeted, last night we didn't need it at all! Ds's feeding frenzy has resulted in tons more milk and i'm buzzing that I can satisfy his tummy at last all on my own

Also the bottle at night=longer sleep theory didn't hold fast as he did his usual 4hour chunk even though he'd had boob last thing May try to express now though as nice getting a break in the eves...

Lizzer · 29/01/2008 12:52

Oh and BT I'm following your HV's avice to take it easy this week-any excuse for me to laze around the house is good for me after last week's hospital dramas! Funnily enough though the bleeding has stopped

Amani · 29/01/2008 12:54

Loucee - DD2 got a bit of a cold/temperature and pharamcist recommended Saline drops to relieve the congestions.

DD1 also got her back teeth coming out so have two fussy babies with me today.

Bouncingturtle · 29/01/2008 13:08

Morning everyone!

Lizzer - yep mine has virtually stopped as well!

Went to Bumps and Babes, had a chat with one of the other mums and she was really helpful! Now have a better idea of what I am doing, I think

claireybee · 29/01/2008 13:56

Insy you nutter! Wow! I thought I'd like to start trying again asap until ds arrived and I remembered just how hard this newborn malarky is! And your two are the same age as my two-I'm in complete awe of you now! Would still like more but not until these two are at school now I think, and unless dh suddenly starts earning buckets I'll be going to work then so it probably won't happen

For a girl, have sex 3-5 days before ovulation and not when you are ovulating. This is because female sperm live longer and swim slower so in theory they will still be hanging around when you ovulate. If you have sex when you are ovulating a male sperm will rush on in there and beat the girlies to it! Hope it works for you!

Buzzy well done on the washables. DS has been in them since birth, but only cos dd was in them anyway so him being as well was no more work for me. Oh and as for the poo, I find they keep it in far better than disposables did for dd-she always ended up with poo up her back and down her legs! Have had no poo leaks at all with ds in spite of some very explosive ones! Also they are meant to be cooler than sposies, am not convinced though-the wraps seem quite hot.

Clara, perhaps it is a fast let down on that side that she is struggling with rather than oversupply. Had that issue with dd and it resolved itself by 10 weeks or so. There are some good articles on kellymom and also dr jack newman's site. Am very jealous that you don't need breastpads-am the queen of leaky boobs-they start squirting for no reason! Is a nightmare finding tops that the pads don't show through too!

Lizzer, great news on the milk front! It's a good feeling isn't it?

Meme, sorry the weight gain isn't good. Are you feeding on demand still? Could be worth asking in the feeding forum for advice, I remember another thread where someone had had similar issues a while ago.

Only a few more and we'll have converted the whole of December mummies to Calin Bleu users! Am also liking my moby too although it is bigger so swamps me a bit more!

I have no idea how many feeds ds has in 24 hours, a lot I think! Those of you that count do you count a cluster feeding session as one feed, or lots of feeds? I do know that I never cut dd's feeds down though, she just started to drop them by herself, hopefully he'll do the same.

insywinsyspider · 29/01/2008 14:02

clairey - that makes perfect sense about getting a girl! last time we used ovulation sticks and had sex exactly on ovulation!... and I was suprised I got a boy
skiddale - did you have a thread about conceiving a boy??
and I know there is a plan to have another baby but I'm exclusively bfeeding so I don't see it happening anytime soon! last time I had to stop bf to make it happen

beanster - ds has 7 feeds a day - he goes about 3 hrs between feeds during the day and that went to about 4 hours at 12 ish weeks

anyones lo's out of the moses baskets now? ds is 6 wks and I think he's too big for his and its waking him up - he's 12lb so I think he's big enough to sleep for slightly longer stretches...

claireybee · 29/01/2008 14:11

No but honestly Insy, I am so impressed that you feel ready. I'm just so tired, finding it hard work etc etc I couldn't even contemplate it yet!

insywinsyspider · 29/01/2008 14:16

I don't feel ready just yet - I still remember how hiddious pg and a toddler was! I just know my family isn't complete yet and I don't want to put the baby stuff away and get it all out again, if that makes sense... plus having to keep saying it to dh so he gets used to idea I distracted him from the reality of it by getting him to look at bigger cars the other day, men have very simple minds sometimes

claireybee · 29/01/2008 14:20

Ah ok, you are sane after all

insywinsyspider · 29/01/2008 14:24

well I wouldn't go that far I think pg, baby and sleep deprivation may have addled my mind! plus ds smiled for the first time this week - it kind of makes up for all the sleepless nights doesn't it?

loucee · 29/01/2008 15:50

clairey have you tried those lilypadz I've been thinking of trying them.

well done Lizzer on the milk supply

bouncing, yes its great picking up tips from other mums and brin able to compare notes. I think the new mum groups are great

fifisworld · 29/01/2008 16:12

Insy - Id love another one now, or at least soon but dp doesnt want anymore. He originally only wanted one and when we had ds1 he said that was it, but then as ds1 started getting more independant he thought it would be nice to have someone for him to grow up with, theres only 2o months between them.
I asked dp last night if there was any chance we'd have anymore and he said no.
If i could guarantee another boy id have one tomorrow

Amani · 29/01/2008 17:21

lol at thinking about another one...This defo is it for me with my two lovely princess. No doubt some of the oldies in my family will have a moan about trying for a boy, as they are a bit old fashion like that, but in one ear and out the other!

insywinsyspider · 29/01/2008 20:50

loucee - I've got lilypadz, they're ok but not brilliant, I think I have too much milk for them and they get a bit sweaty, plus you really have to foddle yourself to get them on so not great in public! other mums I know swear by them....

fifi - there is 19 months between my two, I'd love the same age gap again - dh has taken some persuading as he'd prefer to only have two but I'd love a girl and know I'd like to try for one (although 3 boys is more preferable than 3 girls so we're safe either way!)

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/01/2008 21:01

I was thinking about lilypadz as Im sick of waking in a pool of milk when my pads have slipped - doesnt sound like they would help much though!

insywinsyspider · 29/01/2008 21:06

pecka - I find they keep your nipples and skin constantly wet so not good for prolonged use, I should image they would be great for a night out with a close fitting top

insywinsyspider · 29/01/2008 21:07

and I meant fondle not foddle as I put in my last message!

macdoodle · 29/01/2008 21:12

oh god feeding machine today...went out to do some chores (shopping ones)been putting off and luckily took my super efficient calm best friend with - cos Lily screamed through Argos and had to BF in bright lights on hard chair in middle of room ...as they were taking ages sorting out a return (non functioning Wii)....was covered up with muslin and luckily not too bad when a mum with a toddler said very loudly "oh look at that baby feeding on mummies booby"...cue WHOLE shop turning to look ..not squeamish or shy but not really want to be on exhibit.....then she did the same in Boots - if I had been alone would have gone home and not got jobs done....she had fed pretty constantly all day and seemed really unsettled grizzly colicky...oh dear she is usually caml good feeder ...oh well maybe I will have a good night

loucee · 29/01/2008 21:17

Insy you're doing better than me, there's 22 mths between my two and next time I will definitely need a few more months inbetween. That being said I suppose it all depends to your individual circumstances and how much support you have etc. I can't remember the ins and outs but aren't you supposed to eat acidic foods for one sex of baby and alkaline for the other? It'll probably be in one of the TTC threads.

Fantastic news tonight, my Dad hasn't got cancer (that's been looming over us since Christmas) and more fab news my SIL is 13wks pregnant (really fab as they lost twins last year)

Off to start a thread about birthday cakes, DD is 2 in ten days and I want a yummy cake and icing recipe! Going to have her party on a Sunday so the husbands can come along as well, think it'll be a joint "welcome to the world Finlay" and Happy birthday party

claraquitetirednow · 30/01/2008 07:50

Loucee - great news about your dad, that must be such a relief. And well done to your SIL. Good for you making your own birthday cake - I thought about it when dd1 was 2 last September but in the end I couldn't face it (I'm not much of a baker) and bought a chocolate hedgehog cake instead (which was delicious).

Amani - I am with you on being happy with two girls. Before dd2 was born I didn't know if I wanted a boy or another girl. But now I have the two of them I couldn't be happier. Let's just hope they grow up friends and not mortal enemies!

buzzybee · 30/01/2008 09:19

Loucee, you must be so relieved

My LO slept through to 3am from 9pm last night! I was so surprised when I looked at the clock. Then thru to 7.30am - very civilised. I think the trick is not to let her doze her way through the late afternoon and evening so that by 1am she's already gone for a 7-8 hour stretch of largely sleeping. Not that I blame her as its been very warm here. Tonight she's been awake / restless again thru to 10pm (after sleeping solidly 4-6.30pm) so fingers crossed...

Lizzer will keep you posted on the washables. I think they will be better in terms of poo squirting up the front and back but do seem to have quite big gaping holes around the legs....proud of myself today tho as even remembered to take a spare washable nappy out with me in a plastic bag - the temptation is to only carry disposables around for changes on the run.

Sadly my EBM milk supply is definitely starting to diminish which I knew was fairly inevitable. Only getting about 150ml each express now and given that she's taking about that at each feed its becoming a bit of a grind even with 2 formula feeds at night. Oh well she's one month old today and I told myself I'd be happy with that before we set off down this route.

macdoodle · 30/01/2008 11:52

Hi Buzzy you have done amazingly well I haveonly managed to express one bottle really can't be arsed TBH It is weird how similar our situations are though differnet continents (and def different weather)...
Just put Lily in her basket while I had a shower she was wide awake and bit grizzly and was just gona let her scream for 10min but amazingly she fell asleep straight away and still is ...

Beanstermummy · 30/01/2008 12:50

MacDoodle I still haven't managed to do that yet - I know my Mum and Sister think I'm nuts but I just can't do it - you've inspired me to maybe try

Bugster is having a very awake day today - great but for the fact I'm having a very tired one !

Bouncingturtle · 30/01/2008 13:17

I think Daniel smiled at me today! His eyes crinkled up and he looked like he had a big cheesy like this, but no teeth!
Makes up for the fact he has been grizzly all morning, and threw up when I changed his nappy and end up with vomit in his hair, so had to wash him down, all the while he was screaming because he was hungry again!!
He's asleep in his vibro chair looking very cute now.
