Thought I'd start off the new thread as I've never started one before - congratulations to those of you who are on here now - hope I'll be joing you in the not-too-distant future!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
claireybee · 30/01/2008 14:50

Loucee-I had thought about them but then saw a thread that said they were no use if you have a let down from one boob while feeding from the other and I definitely do!

Beanster/Macdoodle-I haven't been bothered with expressing either. Other than the other night when I had to take some of the pressure off before I exploded but that wasn't normal circumstances!

Buzzy I think ds also thinks night starts in the afternoon. He tends to have a big sleep in the afternoon, then his biggest sleep through the evening and then wakes loads after midnight until 6 am where he usually starts feeding non stop until 10 or so!

BT!

Lizzer · 30/01/2008 15:10

at the vibro chair BT. We were given one of those swings that swing themselves (does that make sense) though and ds went in it y'day for first time and fell asleep-result!
Awww they are so cute when they smile, I got a few gorgeous ones before-it makes it all worthwhile esp. as we had THE crappest night's sleep last night.

I think this ridiculous half hour cluster feeding is nearing an end though, tf for that!

Buzzy i think you've done brilliantly to keep up your supply for this long, well done you

Loucee, what great news x2!!!

mememummy · 30/01/2008 22:12

thank u 4 all your advise, shes lost a total of four oz now and im so worried, ive uped my food, incase i wasnt eating enough resumed all vits and am being a paranoid mummy now, i can express more than an ounce i only ever got three max, but i have bf for nearly 7 weeks so i am proud of myself, i have given her the best start. i would love another baby, but dont want the pregnancy, the birth bit was fine, but i really struggled.
is any1 feeling a bit self concious at the min? ive only ever been a size 10, with 32aa boobs, and now im a size 16 with 34dd boobs.

sorry if its a bit of a rant x xx xxx

loucee · 30/01/2008 22:28

Meme I was more a 12/14 and am now a 16 and yes I'm really self conscious but like it has been said before - 9 months on, 9 months off! Lets not underestimate just what a fantastic job our bodies have done growing and delivering and now nurturing these wee miracles, we should give ourselves some slack and realise that it's not just fat on our bodies, they are a bit out of shape after what they have just achieved! It's still fairly early days after childbirth and I'm sure we will settle back down into our pre pregnancy weight and sizes. I'm having to watch what I eat as I have a tendency to have a sweet tooth when I'm tired so I'm eating far too many sweets and biscuits throughout the day then when I add it all up I am horrified at how much I put away! Try and get out and about with the pram when you can, the fresh air will be good for the both of you and it's gentle exercise to help us beat the weight.

Clairey glad you said that about the lilypadz then because I also get the let down on the side I'm not feeding from.

Thanks for all the good wishes about my Dad, it's such a relief and now they can plan a trip up to see me and their new Grandson.

Been having a weird few days, bit teary and feeling overwhelmed, don't think this weather helps and have been couped up indoors for a lot of it.

Is anyone's little one in their own room yet? Are you just using a monitor? I am getting little sleep in with DS because he is such a fidget and it wakes me up and I think I am picking him up to feed him when he doesn't actually want it! I think I should go back into my room (I've been on the campbed in DS's room and DH has been in our room) after the first night feed but then I feel really bad about it.

Bouncingturtle · 31/01/2008 07:19

Ds spaced his feeds out again!

10pm last feed downstairs (been feeding on and off all evening)
10:45pm put him down to sleep
12:30am - DH gives him EBM
1am - put him down to sleep
He stirs several times, give him back his dummy and he falls asleep again
3:40am he wakes again, think eek! It's been hours since he last fed! He then spent 20 mins on each breast.
4.30am back to sleep, sadly due to weather, I couldn't sleep! Ds then woke up again just before 6am, our normal getting up time.

Meme - I was a 16 and 38DD before pg, now I am an 18 and 40F! Again trying to cut out the crap, and will be joining Slimming World once I have my post natal check.

claraquitetirednow · 31/01/2008 08:11

Loucee - you sound like a very wise woman re the weight. I was also a 12/14 and a 34d before pregnancy. Am now wearing size 16, although they don't fit and have to keep them up with belts aroundmy waist (I tend to put all my wight on hips/thighs) and am 36dd. I have abut 9lbs to lose to get back to pre-pregnancy weight but assume some of that won't come off until I stop breast feeding. At which point it's straight to Weight Watchers for me!

Btw although I am still sharing a room with the baby I am thinking of putting her in her own room as she snuffles and truffles for a good half an hour before I give up trying to ignore her and feed her. Therefore I am not getting as much sleep as I could be.

We had a relatively good night last night - fed 10pm, 2.45am and 5.30am. i think she is finally getting over her cold.

but still really finding it hard going with two. i am so exhausted at the end of the day it's as much as i can do to collapse into a glass of red wine...

insywinsyspider · 31/01/2008 08:33

loucee - great news about your dad and btw ds was in his own room for the first time last night and he slept 8 ish - 11.30 then I fed him and he did 12 - 5am and then I put off the next feed with a dummy and eventually fed him at 6.30am - I was seeing if I could make him really hungry during today and hopefully he'll tank up for the night, our house is small enough not to have a monitor, I did start with one but I was getting his crying in stereo so turned it off, I think he slept better as he had more room in cot - ideally I'd have put cot in our room but there is no room for it, anyway he slept well I was up every hour to check he was still breathing

loucee · 31/01/2008 08:44

Morning.
What awful weather, gales all night (woke up to several tiles off the roof) and now its snowing.

Clara, thanks for the compliment . I've also put the weight on my hips/bottom but with my cs still being tender i've been glad or extra room in larger clothes.
Similar night to you Clara:
I bit the bullet and slept half the night in my own bed and I feel much more rested for it. DS went to bed at 8pm, fed at 2.30am, 5.30am and is feeding again now. I am sure me not whisking him up everytime he stirred helped.

loucee · 31/01/2008 08:48

Sorry cross posted Insy

Sounds like Clara you and me had similar sleeping/feeding patterns last night. I hope DS keeps it up!
Our house isn't huge but DS's bed is just on the other side of his room and I often try and get to him before he's screaming to try and avoid waking up DD as she's been up a few times lately with such a bad cough and cold.

Ambi · 31/01/2008 09:33

Macdoodle, I agree that I also cannot be arsed expressing since it?s just so easy to feed directly. It?s great when that happens with the falling asleep isn?t it, I did it when she was about 3 weeks old, put her down awake but grizzly whilst I showered and she fell asleep, now it?s a regular occurrence in our household.

BT, I love those gummy smiles, don?t they just melt your heart. A few times I?ve had smiles that are grimaces that turn into wails but she does have the cutest smiling sessions. Daniel likes his vibro chair, That?s good, DD seems to tolerate it for 5 mins then doesn?t like it at all, I?m waiting for her to be able to bounce properly in it though.

That?s great news Loucee, your SIL isn?t Gwen Stefani is it?

I fancied those lilypadz, after seeing the link, but as Clairey says they?ll be no good for me as I def have leakage from other breast whilst feeding. Will have a look for some washable pads though as the disposables are not all that cheap.

More babies? Are you all mad? I think sleep deprivation has warped your brains, do you not remember that last month of pregnancy, the aches / pains/ night loo trips/ tiredness/ frustration. That doesn?t includes the labour, birth and these hard newborn days. Oh god, I?m leaving it for years til I think about another one, if we decide to have another, and I had a great pregnancy, quick ish labour, painfree birth (yay drugs!) and well behaved baby.

Didn?t really catch up properly, but must go now we?re off to baby group, she?s also getting weighed this afternoon so I?m interested in what a little bloater she is now.

suey2 · 31/01/2008 09:47

congrats loucee you must be so relieved.

millie has only been waking once between 11 and 7 to eat all week- had 170ml at 3.30 greedy guts. I have said to DH that when she does that consistently we need to get rid of the night nanny as it is hard to justify the expense- although he would have the help until millie was a teenager i am sure! Off for 6 week check today so i will be interested to see if her weight gain is ok after the wind issues last week.

Meme i am still 1.5 stone heavier than pre pregnancy and can only fit in my fattest clothes. But i have loads of milk and millie is thriving- that's what i see as important- but i ahve filled the house with fruit so i have to go out for chocolate or biscuits. When i express before bed i get 6oz/ 150ml from each breast (DH feeds her after her bath so there has been some buildup.)

I do not feel sexy, which worries me as DH is gagging for it, so i understand the mental struggle. Actually we tried sex and it was really sore so had to abandon ship. God i have condoms- maybe i will get a coil today at the doc's

suey2 · 31/01/2008 09:48

sorry hate condoms

claireybee · 31/01/2008 11:59

Wow Insy, Loucee, Clara those are great nights! DS fairly consistently does 8ish til 12ish but is then up loads thereafter. Still, it's a start! Last night he just wouldn't settle so ended up with him on me for most of the night, think he is suffering with his cold poor thing and he seemed to have a temperature last night too. Was also snacking rather than taking big feeds which I remember dd always did when she was poorly.

Suey you seem to have it sorted too-I wish ds would do his long sleeps from 10/11pm. any tips? DD was (is) the same, always slept the evening and then disturbed after midnight.

Ambi am VERY of your dd falling asleep by herself. Keep trying with ds but he just escalates into full on screaming every time. Doesn't cry it out either, just gets more and more worked up until there is no chance he will settle! He really hates the car and the buggy too-will scream the whole time from when he is put in til he is taken out again! Is very annoying-the buggy was a surefire way of getting dd to sleep but he really hates it.

BeachBunni · 31/01/2008 12:58

Hey everyone. I haven't been on in absolute ages and will maybe get a chance to read and catch up later today if wee man stays good. Can't wait to see how everyone got on and how all the little bubas are doing. Congratulations to you all.
Ds is 14 weeks old today and doing really well. Was born at a tiny 2lb 12 and now 11lb. His adjsted age is 9 weeks though so he's only doing the things a 9 wk old does. He's been smiling and today I got the first laugh when I blew a raspberry at him.
Definately own cot is the way ahead. Ds hated his moses basket but loves his cot, especially the musical mobile above it. Felt really bad about putting him in his own room but it's right beside our room, both doors are open and the monitor is on. I can even hear him breathing anyway.
Are all you ladies bf? I tried for four weeks and expressed while he was in SCBU but I got mastitus and my milk dried up as I wasn't getting the constant contact there. Is anyone ff? how much does your lo take in a feed? Talking of feeding, monster is looking some. have to go..

Amani · 31/01/2008 13:14

Hello ladies,

Just checking in to see how you all are doing. DD2 fast asleep at the moment, still got bad temperature and cold poor thing. I can hear her at night struggling to breathe through her nose and even though she's asleep, it keeps me awake with worry.

Talking about weight, am about 10lb off my pre-preg weight. Think all the BF, running around after a toddler and not being able to eat lunch until 4:30pm on somedays has contributed. Not going to be fussy over losing weight while I am BF. Last week bought a size 12 pair of trousers which I was pleased about.

Suey - is it painful having the coil fitted?

All those who have babies who sleep for more than 3 hrs at night - what's your secret?

Ambi · 31/01/2008 13:19

Sorry, it's sounds as if I'm gloating a bit doesn't it. I didn't mean it like that. Of course there are times she won't sleep if she's put in her moses basket, but generally she does go down awake and grunts away until asleep, now she's in her own room it doesn't bother me like it used to, we don't have a monitor but can hear her as she's only across the hall, quiet enough if she's having a moan but loud enough if she's screaming "I'm hungry". I think that having a dummy helps her nod off though, so credit really does go to a bit of rubber & plastic, not my calming sleep inducing milk!

Baby Group was good, Louise was the youngest though and everyone was really shocked I made it "out" at 6 weeks, blimey, I'd go nuts if I was in 24/7 but I now have a tendancy to avoid all traffic if possible and only venture out between 9.30 and 2.30. It was strange seeing loads of 6-8 month old tots playing though, they seemed huge, it was also my first public breastfeeding, but since it was amongst like-minded mums I felt really comfortable.

So I've got a MASSIVE pile of ironing I'm trying to ignore by selling off my DVDs on ebay. (Maybe a magic fairy will come in and do it for me) Really hoping the gales will stop, last year when it was bad our roof tiles fell onto my shiny sports car.

Lizzer · 31/01/2008 13:52

Hi Beachbunni, lovely to hear your news

LOL suey @having fruit in house so you have to go out to get biscuits and choc!! I'm doing the same but somehow. using the power of thought, i managed to get a friend to arrive bearing gifts of cake. I scoffed the lot

Yeah I'm a stone over pre-pg but even then I was a stone overweight so really want to lose 2. The thought of a family wedding in May and a bikini in July is terrifying!!!!!!

Ambi, you don't sound gloaty at all, I'd be buzzing ds did the same

Well we're still co-sleeping which is great (most of the time) I hardly have to wake up if ds wants a feed, i just latch him on and drift back off, and he usually only stirs twice from 12am when we all go to bed. He's stopped pooing in the night too which is great as no nappy changing required.. However, I have started thinking i'd like to put him down earlier and have a bit of an evening before he starts only being able to nod off in our bed...I don't mind yet, but when is there a right time??!!

Its blardy windy round these parts today (and i don't just mean ds's bum) Are there gales all over the country?

Lizzer · 31/01/2008 13:56

Ambi- i like your plan to sell stuff on ebay, we're particularly skint atm (Jan never good for the self-employed plus we've got huge heating bills in this new house) and I thought that's one thing i could do whilst b/feeding

claireybee · 31/01/2008 13:59

Not at all Ambi-when (if)ds does the same I'll be telling you all in every post! Dummy was great with dd too but ds won't take it

Bouncingturtle · 31/01/2008 15:49

Gales here - Tees flyover is shut to high sided vehicles, and my friends have been down from Sunderland visiting and said there was lorries blown all over the place!!
Have not been out today - HATE it when it is windy!

nappyaddict · 31/01/2008 16:07
