Clara, go and wash your mouth out with soap and water Funnily enough i dreamt a had had another baby boy last night, he was born on 11th dec this year, lets hope another march conception isn't on the cards then!!

Pecka, i give ds 4oz but he's 5w now and near 11lbs so thats prob why..

Suey, I'm going to follow your yoghurt and water, less bread plan. I can't believe the amount of wind that comes out of him...

Thanks for the dummy advice, i'm sold-just need to persuade dp-this coukd be difficult...

Have a good day everyone

fifisworld · 28/01/2008 12:42

Hello Everyone

Sorry i havent had a chance to have a proper catch up so sorry if i miss whats been going on.

On the subject of dummys, Ethan normally has one straight after his bottle to settle him but he spits it out after 5 mins most of the time.

Clara - Someone from work got pregnant 9 weeks after having her dd, it's scared me into getting something sorted. I think im going to go for the coil coz im hopeless at taking my pill, ds1 is proof of that

I have put Ethan on hungry baby formula and he seems much better with it and is more settled after his feeds. He is currently having about 4/5 oz at 9pm and sleeping until 2.30/3 am, having another 4/5 oz and sleeping until about 7am.

buzzybee · 28/01/2008 12:44

Yes what I'd describe as "breakthrough" type bleeding here too at 4 weeks after almost completely stopping. Only had for past day so yet to see how it pans out. As we're mixed feeding could be period. Relieved to see others have same!

claraquitetirednow · 28/01/2008 14:10

Claireybee - your thread on oversupply is really interesting. I wonder whether this is a problem I am having with my right breast in prticular? She really fusses when she is on it, choking sometimes, pulling off and screaming at almost every feed. She does occasionally do it on the left breast but not to the same extent. I know I can get more milk out of my right, but it does not usually spray out or leak very often (eg I don't wear breast pads) so not sure if this is it. I had wondered if it was more to do with the direction of the milk flow!

Anyway her weight gain has been very good and she has gone up from the 5oth to 75th percentile since birth so perhaps another indication?

Maybe I should try one-sided feeding for a while and see what happens.

fifisworld · 28/01/2008 14:13

I havent had any sign of a period yet, Ethan will be 7 weeks on thursday and i stopped bleeding after about 2/3 weeks.

MamaMaiasaura · 28/01/2008 14:24

clara - I am quite broody. Not going to try ttc till ds2 a year old tho as want to breastfeed till then.

Re the bleeding - I am still losing blood at samuel is now over 4 weeks old. Not losing alot. QAlos for those who had episiotomonys.. how long does it take to heal properly as i am still sore.

fifisworld · 28/01/2008 15:16

Im not allowed anymore babies

Beanstermummy · 28/01/2008 15:46

Hi guys - can't believe I've not been on MN for so long - the days just seem to flying by but I'm not achieving much?! Can't believe you lot are discussing having more LO's already!! Did the scary first time since birth last week (having had 6 week check up and therefore prescription for pills!!) - not as bad as I'd thought - sounds rotten that - honestly I enjoyed it - sorry TMI

DD2 is getting really into a routine now - but as with DD1 she has done it more herself that any strict timings I did. Still having a night time feed (around 4 ish) but settles immediately afterwards so not too bad.

Any of you lot into slings by the way? Am trying to sort one out and wondered if there's any advice out there? Met a couple of mums via Sling Meet today which was good.

I just can't believe DD2 is 8 weeks on Friday already - how did that happen????

Lizzer - snap on the dummy thing - although having decided we'd get a couple for very occasional use even though me and the Dh don't like them, must be said, DD2 settles really well and surely that is better than her going purple while in an apoplectic rage for half an hour - and more importantly for us, there are times when I need her to settle so I can sort DD1's tea out for example - after all - I suppose that is why they are called soothers or pacifiers in the states?? Coz they sooth an upset little bug.

Anyway - glad to see you are all still around - and that even after all the trials and tribulations (boob thrush, bladder infections, lack of sleep, saggy tummies etc etc) that goes with this parenting lark, our LO's are doing well.

x

Bouncingturtle · 28/01/2008 16:00

Ok, just had a quick chat with the BFC about boob pain and thought I would ask her about the period thing. She said if baby if feeding quite frequently then it shouldn't be starting this early - it could be that we've just been more active and this could restart the bleeding, so we should take it easy. Baby spacing feeds out more as well can trigger ovulation.

Wizzska · 28/01/2008 18:40

I stopped bleeding at 6 weeks and thankfully haven't started again yet at 8 weeks.

I'm really jealous of you ladies who only breastfeed for 15 mins. It takes me about 30 or 40. At least DS is putting on weight now though so he's having enough nutrition.

We had a few of green nappies about 2 weeks ago. Of course I worried about it. It could have been not enough hind milk or perhaps the formula top ups we gave him. Now the're usually yellow or orangey.

I'm for once feeling fairly normal, getting over boob pain, cs pain, tiredness, have no bugs or ills for about the first time since DS was born. Now DH has done his back in so am looking after him too.

loucee · 28/01/2008 19:10

Hi everyone

DS slept from 7.30pm-2.30am last night I fell asleep on the bed around 11 as I had been waiting up to give him a feed. I was worried about him today as he felt really hot and has been very sleepy , not cried at all and has had really short feeds, Doc said he is fine though.

I'd love another baby but not until DS is 2.5 as DD would just be getting ready to go to school and hope DS would understand more when I couldn't pick him up

loucee · 28/01/2008 20:33

Msg was cut short....

DD found it hard just after my CS when I couldn't pick her up, sometimes her sad face just melted my heart and I gave in and lifted her but that did me no good.

Wizzska when I was talking to the HV earlier about DS's feeding today she did say "well alot of babies cut down their feeding time around 6 wks as their more efficient and know what they're doing by now" so your little one will probably cut down feeding time soon.

Clairey great bf thread, glad your feeds have imprived and that DS is much more settled.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 28/01/2008 20:38

Im wondering if mathilda has become more efficient. She feeds fine all day long, no problems - then in the evening she is bobbing on and off and getting annoyed and wriggle. I kept thinking she was annoyed the flow wasnt fast enough but when she comes off i squeezed my nips and 4 shoots of milk spring out - so dont think its low supply.

I stopped trying to get her to feed, stood up with her, she burped 3 times and is now calm.

Could it be that it was too fast for her? Or just that she had had enough? (even tho only feeding about 15-20 instead of her usual 30mins plus?)

I have had a bit of dodgy bleeding today - should I worry its gone dark red and bloody again? It hasnt ever stopped but was much reduced and almost just like a discharge?

Im rubbish at doing those posts where everyone addresses everyone by name so hope I dont appear ignorant!!

insywinsyspider · 28/01/2008 21:27

hello all - not been on for a few days and lost the thread of conversation, only to comment that we're going to have more asap for us, no pills just see what happens - although I will be looking for ways to swing conception in favour of a girl (if such things are possible )

beanster - a couple of us have calin bleu slings which are fab, ds2 loves it and I've perfected the sleepy sling to cot transfer now

I'm still having like a dark red discharge/bleed and ds2 is 6 wks - is that normal? it had all completely stopped by now with ds1... I should book my 6 wk check really to ask

apart from that going better here, had a couple of settled days with ds2, we may have turned a corner, fingers crossed for longer sleeping at night now!

mememummy · 28/01/2008 23:04

dont know if any1 is still up, im still bleeding not sure if its period its very heavy and dd is 6 weeks old, it never really stopped, i had emergency section so dont no if it last longer with that.
dd also whinges in evening and wont feed for more than five mins be4 throwing head back acting like a plank and screaming at me til i give her a bottle. she usually feeds for 40 mins or more so god knows whats going on

had 6 week check earlier, dd has lost weight so im a bit upset, i thought we were doing good, nbut she is only 5oz more than her bw at 6 weeks, also hasnt grown in length.

i am lucky tho shes sleepin 12-7/8 now so im getting a good rest

buzzybee · 29/01/2008 07:55

Right finally bit the bullet today and put a washable nappy on DD for the first time. MW was here yesterday and now over 10lb (still bang on average) up from 7lb, 11oz birth weight so no excuse not to. Bit worried about the squirty poos so will continue to use Huggies at night.

Makes her look even more like a little buddha with a fat tummy tho And very hot here ATM so a bit worried she will be uncomfortable but seemed to cope OK today.

Those with newly resumed heavy red bleeding you should check with MW/HV as could be sign of infection - unless you think early period likely (e.g. if you're mixed feeding). I got ABs at 2.5 weeks for this and cleared up bleeding (back to light discharge) within 12 hours.

suey2 · 29/01/2008 09:00

meme i had an emergency c section and stopped bleeding after 4 weeks- you should definitely get it checked out.

loucee · 29/01/2008 09:13

Morning everyone

Insy really glad to read everything is going better, and wow - seeing how things go with conceiving another baby good on you, let us know how it goes!

Pecka maybe it was the wind that was making your little one all wriggly? we have similar things here

Meme I would phone one of the breastfeeding orgs for advice, it sounds like your DD is getting frustrated at the breast in favour of the bottle

I was thinking about people who used to be on the thread after someone mentioned theLady and I dont remember seeing many posts from *Housemum? Anyone know how she is?

DS slept from 7.30-1.30, wish I could shift that to 12-6.30! He then feeds and resettles but is quite fussy until 7am.

Suey interesting what you said the effect Actimel had on you and your DH, I started taking it when I started this course of ABs and the first couple of days I had huge amounts of wind that has now calmed down but I think it is related

claraquitetirednow · 29/01/2008 09:16

Insy - can't believe you are going to start trying again already - I couldn't face being pregnant again for at least a year (actually I don't think I could everface it again but then I am 40 this year so that's my excuse- I'll leave the sleepless nights to you spring chickens). Ask Skidaddle about trying for a girl - she had a thread about how to try for a boy and it obviously worked! However, just heed the advice given to my dh from one of his colleagues, who has three girls (bearing in mind we have two girls now): just don't try for a boy!!!

mememummy - I agree with Suey, I would get the bleeding checked out, it's better safe than sorry. I had a c/section and didn't bleed much beyond 3/4 weeks and that was pretty light. I'm sorry your LO isn't putting on weight - what has the hv said about this? It's a hard one as it sounds like she isn't feeding brilliantly (colic?reflux?) but have the said you should wake her at night to feed? Not that I would want to - I dream of getting 7-8 hours sleep in a row. Don't beat yourself up about it though, it sounds like you have had a difficult time and are really perservering. It's not easy, I hope you are getting good support.

We've had a nightmare couple of days with both dd's ill. Dd2 - the baby - has had a terrible cold which means she can only sleep lying down for about half the night before she is too congested. So she slept about 11-2 last night then again for about an hour, then on me from 3-5 then after a feed I handed her over to dh and got another 1.5 hours sleep. So just about got enough to function.

I am really hoping that once her cold has cleared up she is going to go a little longer at night. She was doing at least one 4 hour stretch. If we can do one 4 hour and one 3 hour I'll be a happy mummy.

Quick question to all those on their 2nd/3rd: do you remember when you do things like start cutting the number of feeds they need in a day, or does it just happen naturally. I am scratching my head trying to recall when and how we got down to 6, then 4, then 2 feeds etc....

claraquitetirednow · 29/01/2008 09:20

Loucee- snap, I was also thinking about Housemum, but she has three now I think so is probably very busy these days.

If you notice though she started this thread.

Caz10 · 29/01/2008 09:59

morning all! just reading quickly through...mememummy if you go to the bf forum i have a thread there called "failing to thrive" () as there have been lots of concern re dd's weight, also look at one called is "my hv talking nonsense? my baby is 23 days old and shes telling me to top up (296 messages)" someone else with same probs...lots of good advice and people sharing similar stories...

calin blue users, i am starting to love mine, but wondering do your lo's feed in yours? mine always tries but then her head gets kind of squinty?! have her in the basic front carry. heee i did the "sleepy sling to cot transfer" last night too, was almost successful!

Caz10 · 29/01/2008 10:07

ps another baby????!!!! noooooooooooooooo!!

loucee · 29/01/2008 10:16

For those with babies who have colds, I noticed the other day that you can use Nasasal from birth - it's really good for clearly snuffly noses. DS is congested so I'm going to get a new one today. Other things to try - putting a wet flannel over radiator to give steam, raising head end of mattress slighly.

Cant remember when the feeds cut down either, DD was always a little and often eater!

Beanstermummy · 29/01/2008 10:37

Buzzy - good on you for the washables - we're exactly the same - they are in the cupboard but keep holding back form using them - off to my folks for next week so have said to myself when we are back home Dd2 will be 9 weeks old and there will be NO EXCUSE!!

Clara.. re feeds - DD2 has cut down to 5 feeds per day (but one is still at around 4am) and did that a week or so ago - so about 6 weeks (think it's after the feeding frenzy they apparently have at around 6 weeks) - and seem to remember DD1 did the same. Trying now to convince DD2 that if she can go 5 plus hrs during the day at times why not at night - so almost reducing the spacings to force around 4 hrs to try and get enough into her during the day - but no luck so far.

Caz10 - my Calin Bleu arrived today This one is fleece on as I do have a cotton one but it's far far more hassle and bigger - you can't tie them tight before putting LO in and all in all it's just a right royal faff but tried the fleece one and tonnes better - just need it to stop pissing it down up here and we may even go out of the house

Any of you really noticing lack of brain power at the moment? Memory is completely colander like let alone a sieve and I just don't seem capable of any complex thinking - are my brain cells leaking out with breast milk???

claraquitetirednow · 29/01/2008 11:04

Beanster - oh, dd2 still on 8 feeds (plus) a day and she is now 7 weeks old. Woops. Am obviously doing something wrong. No wonder she's so "chunky"!
