Hi Kitsilano - what have the MWs etc said about Lana's tongue? Is it something that can be sorted?

Sorry to hear about your DD2's tongue tie kitsilano - have you seen anyone about it?

We are seeing a specialist on Thurs. Apparently they can just "snip" it and it's not painful if done this early (unlike the breastfeeding!)

Well hello there Was just trying to catch up on all the Due Dec 07 news and spotted a reference to Post Natal thread - so here I am.

How jolly is all this. Well - I know I have yet to 'come down' from birth high - especially as it all went so well (ish) compared with last time - but all in all, no massive complaints so far.

Thought I'd do a tips for afterwards list - just to down load my brian and give you all a laugh

1. Loo roll with Aloe Vera in it - how soft compared with hospital stuff
2. Kamilosan Nipple cream - used this last time and other than being more natural that most others is also available in Tescos and is 1/ price of brand versions
3. Glass of fizzy juice (of the few bottles we've been given already ) immediately AFTER a feed does wonders and LO doesn't even get a sniff of it.

Any of you guys got useful hints out there??

As of yesterday on the Due Dec thread there were only 4 girls out of 14 LO's so far - strange?

Anyway - best go as need to do some internet shopping now we can buy pink things!!

Anyone there? My LO is just gorgeous. I can't believe I've got a girl. Was so sure I would have another boy (have two DSs). She feels like a miracle! Unfortunately my post-natal high is being marred by horrible sciatica and I'm not sleeping. Hoping to see osteopath tomorrow. How is everyone going with feeding?

It's still a little echoey in here so thought I would post to try and encourage things along!
Like you, I can't believe I have (another) girl. Everyone seemed so convinced it was a boy and the pregnancy felt very different from dd so I agreed. However, I am pleased as punch with my gorgeous little girl. She has a mop of dark, almost black hair and dark, dark eyes. Very different from her sister, who has almost white blond hair and bright blue eyes!
Martha is very laid back too but last night had terrible wind and was awake screaming for about half the night. She has also lost a little too much weight (12 per cent) so I am under instructions to feed her more (she has been so sleepy I haven't fed her enough).
Unfortunately feeding is the hardest thing for me at the moment as my nipples are in AGONY. Like someone is pushing needles into them when she latches on. I have been told positioning etc is ok so I am just hoping it is because I had a bad position at the start because of the c/section and perhaps because my milk not yet in (I don't think?).
Anyway I remember this from last time, I just don't recall how long the toe-curling pain lasted. Hopefully not more than a day or two!

I cant believe i've got my baby. Ds is bessotted with him, i just feel so
Ethan's so good as well upto now, just feeds and sleeps all the time.

shouldn't be in here as no baby yet but Clara - did you have antibiotics recently? Only the way you describe needles being pushed into you reminds me of when I had thrush in my boobs after DD was born. Of course might not be but best to look out for these things.

Clara - snap re nipples. I'm finding it hard. My nipples are agony and am beginning to get painful breasts, think I may have blocked milk ducts. I'm trying to encourage feeding to unblock things but I feel pretty drained and quite teary. Does this last? I so want to be myself again.

How is everyone? Have to say I am finding it so much easier this time, especially now the afterpains have gone. Douggie is so far a much easier baby than dd was too-feeds properly, sleeps for 3 hours at a time (sometimes even more!!) and doesn't cry for no reason, although you'd think we were killing him when we change his nappy! Speaking of which I am still a little daunted by his boys bits but should get used to them soon!

he tends to cluster feed so will feed constantly for 2 hours or so (with poo/wind breaks) then have a long sleep, wake for a quick top up, sleep some more then feed again for 2 hours. Is good cos means he is sleeping for long periods but not great to be awake for 2 hours at 3am! Having said that I'm not really feeling tired cos I am getting to rest for 3 hours at atime! Much easier than dd who used to feed every 40 mins or so and never slept for long periods!

Also not sure how feeding for extended periods will work out when dh is back at work and am trying to look after dd at the same time so any tips welcome!

She is besotted with her little brother and calls him "my douggie". She loves kissing him and pointing out all the parts of his body but is still quite rough with him (like pushing on his tummy to stand up and poking him in the eye).

Took him out for the first time today, just a 5 min walk around the duck pond but was feeling a bit housebound (am making a conscious effort to take it easy this time which I didnt with dd). Put him in the wrap sling and he snuggled in and looked really cosy in it. Had loads of old ladies stopping me and asking about him too!

Clairey, Douggie is such a cool name for a little boy. One of my dearest friends is called Douggie and if he grows up like him he'll be great.
Clara - after 3 good nights, had a night like yours with Martha last night. She cried for about 3 hours. Maybe I should have just kept feeding her, but I think the milk was just upsetting her tummy and it was all wind. DH helped to walk her around as my back is very sore, but he was rather grumpy about it so I'm letting him sleep in (NZ time here) while I'm up with the big kids. Something not quite right here .
My nipples are sore, but I remember them being worse last time. So maybe I'm still in honeymoon stage. I've read on other threads that everyone is swearing by Lanisoh (sp?), so might go and get some. Hope you all have good nights.

I guess that should be 'girl'. Or have I given birth to a 'girk'? (sleep deprivation...)

Shells - hopefully your wind problem was temporary like ours was (I see you are a day behind us in terms of the baby's age) - I think she had a couple of bad nights because she couldn't poo properly but yesterday it all started coming and now we are changing nappies every few hours!! Anyway this seems to have helped move things a long as she didn't cry at all last night.

I'm just waiting for colic to kick in in a week or two!

Wizz - the nipples thing is so hard, I really think you just have to get through it. Have you been getting support? I am hoping to see the hospital's breastfeeding specialist tomorrow although I am not sure I am doing anything wrong. It is still agony and I dread every feed - last night I took two paracetemal and drank a glass of wine, which helped!!

You'll find too that as it is your first baby, things will feel very strange for a long time - and the feeling teary etc is TOTALLY normal. Don't listen to us 2nd time mums, like Claireyb I am finding it SO much easier this time round and I think it is mostly because I have so much more confidence. I also think this is passed through to the baby as dd2 is so much calmer than dd1 ever was (isn't it fun to be able to write 1 and 2 now?!).

Talk to your partner and/or health visitor about how you are feeling, but don't worry that it's anything other than normal first-time mumitis. I felt like that for a while but life DOES get back to some sort of "normality" eventually, albeit a very different one from the pre-baby world you previously inhabited. Unfortunately I dont think anything could prepare you for what it is like to be a mother.

Anyway Martha's weight is back up now so I am happy that all the painful feeding has paid off. Hope everyone else getting on ok and having just had a peek at the antenatal board think there may be a few more about to join us here....

Wizz - have just seen what you wrote on JARM's thread and I hope what I wrote above doesn't sound flippant. I really do feel for you as I know how terrible I felt after the birth of dd1. Please speak to someone, they should be able to help you with bf'ing. I fear that having a section doesn't help as it takes longer for the milk to come in and getting a good position to latch on is harder.

Wizz, I agree with what Clara said. I am finding it easier this time but bf was a nightmare with dd, it hurt like hell, I didn't know what I was doing, if I should be swapping breasts or putting her back on the same one etc..I remember just crying for days cos I felt so useless.

Don't think we all have angel babies either-don't get me wrong, Douggie does cry, he does fuss at the breast sometimes, he does have me up in the night-the difference is that my attitude to it is different this time round and his every cry doesn't upset me like it used to with dd.

Hope you are ok anyway and sure you are doing a brilliant job xx
