Hey Leifmum, of you going to the pub with dh, I wouldn't mind going for a meal with my dp, but I know we'd just sit there talking about lo anyway!

By the way, I was a bit stunned last night- my dp suddenly said "Let's make more babies" I was like waaait- weren't you the man who was horrified when I got pregnant, and was in denial for about 8 months??? Lucky I'm not broody right now that's all I can say!

Off to make lunch x

GillL · 21/01/2008 14:51

I'm so of your weight tasha. I'm just over 9 stone but I'm only 5'2 so I'm still a size 14 and I have no nice clothes in this size. You'd think it would give me more of an incentive to diet properly. I really must start counting points properly again. Have you tried doing lots of sit ups to try to get rid of your belly. You probably just need to tone up.

James - it happens every night now at least 3 or 4 times. It's really getting me down, especially when the nights he doesn't wake so often, dd wakes up. BTW - tell your dp to keep his pants on I couldn't imagine being pg with a baby this young. It's hard enough when they're older.

I would love to live somewhere like that uki but I just couldn't leave my family. We had a bad couple of years a few years ago and my parents were always there for us so we're really close to them now. My mum would be devastated if we moved away and she couldn't see her gdcs. I'll just be happy to move to a less grey area with no council flats (no offence to anyone who lives in a council flat - the residents in the ones in our area are very inconsiderate noise level wise). There aren't even any parks or green spaces nearby. The closest park is a 10 minute drive away. That's not going to happen for a few years anyway. Dh is starting work on the living room and, due to money, we're not even going to be able to plaster it for at least 6 months. Then we've got our bedroom, the back bedroom and the hall, stairs and landing to decorate Something to look forward to anyway.

Sorry - I think the grey clouds and rain are affecting my mood. That and the fact that dd keeps making me feel guilty for going to work. I keep having to say things like 'I have to go to work so I can earn money to buy your birthday presents'. That'll keep her going for the next couple of months. Hopefully she'll have got used to it by then. She's ok though if her cousins are at my mum's when I leave - then she doesn't really care if I go.

GillL · 21/01/2008 14:53

sagpuss - are you lurking again? How's it going? Lo sleeping any longer these days?

tasha22 · 21/01/2008 14:56

james your dp wants another one. think it was pink that is the childminder, it does sound like a good option for staying at home and then you can hand them back at 5 lol. sounds like your wee man loves his food! im 5ft 4, i havent a clue about hights and wieghts
leifmum i went out with dp a week ago for a meal and we sat really awkward cause we arent used to being alone!! lol
i was talking to other mums with preemie's and they were told to wean at 6 months

lizziemun · 21/01/2008 15:10

Tasha

I remember 8stone it was about 10yrs and five stone ago and 2 babies ago.

I just have to get back there (am only 5ft)

I think Lexie's thinks she superwoman i keep coming into the front room and finding her on her stomach with her arms and legs sticky up in the air and her bib doing a cloak impression.

My first thought was 'oh shit no' she moves .

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/01/2008 18:26

I think in slimming world they say not to go under 8 st 4lb if you're 5' 4" (same as me) you can check your body mass index here but it's all about how you feel. If you feel happy at that weight then it's fine, everyone's different aren't they!

The 6 months before weaning advice for preemies sounds good. Is that what you're going to do?

Not going to slimming world tonight, I've had a shit week and I've lost motivation really. Don't fancy paying a fiver to hear I've put on 2lb. This is where I got to last time and then I gave up. I'm trying not to give up but I'm getting bored and tempted.

Gill don't worry I don't fancy going through all that again just yet. He's now denying that he said it, and saying he was messing about, but he didn't say it in a messing about way last night. Men, eh?

tasha22 · 21/01/2008 20:39

oh im so confused now another mum said this on the preemie thred

I was advised and successfully did begin weaning him at 19 weeks actual age (8 weeks corrected). He only weighed about 9lbs.

but ive so much on my mind with his operation, i phoned the hospital today to find out more and he goes in on thursday then they are going to fast him that night and do the op on friday and the kids arent aloud in because of broncitis season so i need to work out some kind of rota.

lizziemun, how cute is that you have to get a pic!
james i musta sounded very um..wats the word..unsuporting? but keep at it you have been doing so well, big hugs.

gill hopefully it brightens up soon

leifmum - hangover is gone and im never drinking again!! now where did i put that wine

thank god ive got the kids to bed ds1 was in very cheeky mood today and answering back, throwing demands at me and screeming at me, i really dislike him when hes like that how wrong does that sound, ds2 was in a gurny clingy mood i had him attached to my leg for alot of the day. but ds3 was a star he lay playing with his hands for an hour! lol ive just noticed how big this message is, sorri

GillL · 21/01/2008 22:02

The dcs were hard work going to sleep tonight. Ds was sick in his cot so I changed him and the sheet. Soon after I went downstairs he got his legs stuck one on top of the other trying to roll over onto his tummy. He screamed really loudly.

I got a newsletter through from Surestart today. They're appealing for people to train to become post birth doulas and I'm actually quite interested. I'd have to find out a lot more about it though as I'd have to take 4 days off work to do the course. It's only 2 hours per week. I'd only be able to do it at weekends but I guess that's when people need help the most when the professionals aren't around.

GillL · 21/01/2008 22:05

Keep going with Slimming World James. You've done so well. Everyone has set backs but you've just got to forget about the bad things you've drunk or eaten and start again tomorrow.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/01/2008 23:08

Thanks guys, I suppose I do need a bit of encouragement (I should have gone tonight, that's what they're for) it's all my PMT's fault it just makes me want to binge when I have it.

Tasha you're always supportive, don't worry!

Gill, sorry you're having a difficult time putting Alex to bed. I have to admit I still put J to sleep in his pushchair downstairs, and then just take him up as we go to bed. I know we need to start putting him in his cot but he sleeps so well in this routine! I may be creating a monster...

Hey I like the postnatal doula idea Gill, would you be doing it on a voluntary basis?

Getting a bit panicky about finding a job, there's just NOTHING out there! Poooo

tasha22 · 21/01/2008 23:32

gill wats a doula?
james are you still considering childminding?
i would do anything for an easy life so i agree with the buggy thing but also agree that you could be creating a monster lol ive only just put my lo down hes been eating his hands alot lately and he haas been grumpily eating, think he knows whats going on, it couldnt posibly be teeth could it? well off to tidy my dump

tasha22 · 21/01/2008 23:34

sorry meant drinking he hasnt been eating lol

My2Weegirls · 22/01/2008 09:59

hi - we seem to be habving a good night (only up once from 7.30 till 6am) then a bad night (up at all hours!). thinking about moving DD2 to her own room in a couple of weeks to see if that helps her to sleep a bit better (but need to get the radiator fixed first)

james - don't give up you've done so well. (says my2weegirls munching on a packet of digestives - pmt here too! and i'm of th eopinion that you do whatever you can to get them to sleep! so if it works don't change it.

gill - is alex in a sleeping bag at night? i find them great for stopping the feet getting up to mischief and it's also better as they get older as they can't stand so easily when in them....

tasha - think i was 10yrs old when i was last 8stone just sounds like you need to do a few toning excercises to me.

conkertree - are you lurking?

Pinkranger · 22/01/2008 10:06

James - Keep going i know it does get hard, i was sitting here last night craving biscuits and started to look through all the old photos on my mac and saw on of me 2/12 years ago at my lightest and i looked good! i want to look like that again so off to start at gym today, Sought of a good night here, Ds2 was asleep in bed by 7pm but come 3am up every hour, not awake but just grizzling for his dummy.
James - if you can try and get him to bed ( ikonw its hard ) my sister did this with her first and she would never go up to bed and used to fall asleep on the sofa at 9pm until she was 4 she didnt do it with her second! !!

It was me who was the childminder, it is tough some days and the LO that i have is approaching 2 so he can be really hard work at times but it gives me the oppunity to stay at home while Tate is so young, would like to add that as soon as he starts school im off to get a job away from the home!

GillL · 22/01/2008 12:15

James - agree with my2 - if it aint broke don't fix it. Maybe try putting him down in the cot and see how it goes but you may find he changes his habits soon anyway. At this age dd used to feed to sleep which caused no end of problems when she stopped doing that. Ds has been more difficult to get to sleep the last couple of nights but, after a few trips upstairs to give his dummy back he was fine.

tasha - a post birth doula (as opposed to one who helps a woman through labour) is someone who helps out the mother after the baby's been born, for a few weeks. It could be doing shopping, housework, feeding the baby (if ff), anything really, other than babysitting.
James - It would be on a voluntary basis and only 2 hours per week for 4-6 weeks, depending on how the mother/family is coping.

I actually posted on the pg section asking for info if anyone had done the course or does the job already. I wish I hadn't bothered tbh - one woman replied basically implying that it was a waste of time and no one would need this service. I don't know why people post when they've got nothing nice/constructive to say. She didn't even know anything about the scheme anyway!!

my2weegirls - Ds is in a sleeping bag but that doesn't stop him getting his feet stuck in the bars. Last night I heard him screaming his head off. When I went upstairs he had both legs between the bars and he was trying to roll over onto his tummy. He wasn't a happy bunny. He rolls around and pushes himself up the cot so much that he would never stay under a blanket. Just trying to find some bigger ones at the moment - found one for £2.50 on MN

shrinkingsagpuss · 22/01/2008 12:27

Hello! i have been lurking - with the builders in, the computer is near impossible to get to, so I barely have time to catch up let alone post!

... but I have to brag and say, FINALLY DD slept from 7.00 til 6.20 this morning! It was amazing! i can't remember the last time I had so much sleep!

James - about the only bit I did catch was the putting to bed thing.... I'm afraid I have to echo everyone else, get him into bed!!!!!!! As soon as he starts realising where he is you will have trouble. do it now while he is still so young.

Hows the food going everyone? Evie is very very happy with her veggies, I've never seen a baby eat like she does,,, fab. I might start breakfast now she's shown she can do the through the night thing. My freezer is full of plastic bags full of icecubed veggies and fruit. Mind you, I nealry gave her pear and parsnip with her baby rice by accident! It was supposed to be pear and apple, but they all look the same!

I won't even venture into the weight loss discussion, as I am one of those foul people who fight to keep weight on...

I have had an appt through to see the surgeon at the hosp about my funny tummy. Not sure what wil come of it, but we'll see. Don't know if I can face another hospital stay.

Evie STILL isn't rolling, she can practically sit on her own, but is way too lazy to roll - I think the cotton nappies don't help either.

Anywya. I love seeing all your news. and Tasha, think of you and your LO lots. Best of luck for his op.

shrinkingsagpuss · 22/01/2008 12:30

ok so now I've re read.... I clearly am not echoing the others about the bed thing. But I stand by what I said. I will be the lone voice that says GET HIM IN A BED!! equally, though, you have to be 100% sure to make a routine change, so be sure you are prepared t face a few restless evenings. If he settles in his pram why not transfer him earlier? Or take it upstairs so he gets used to settling inthe dark then gradually get him in his bed?

GillL · 22/01/2008 14:51

Good to hear from you sagpuss. Hope the builders won't be in too much longer. We've missed you.

Well done evie for sleeping through. You must have been quite groggy when you woke up.

Food is going really well. Alex has some kind of baby porridge in the morning (around 10am) along with some milk. At 4:30 ish he has a pot of veg and a pot of fruit or some yoghurt for tea with little or no milk. I haven't bothered with freezing in ice cubes, he's never eaten that little.

Let us know how it goes with the surgeon.

I've found out that our local ice rink does skates small enough for dd She's a 5 1/2 and the smallest they do is a 6 so I guess with a couple of pairs of socks she'll be fine. Apparently my niece didn't like it cos she couldn't balance but dd's really light so it shouldn't be as bad. She's really looking forward to it.

BTW - how is my 5 month old baby in the same size nappies as my nearly 3 year old!! Dd still wears them at night and can fit in a size 5 so we're buying big boxes of them to make it cheaper. Ds can get away with 4+ but they were getting a bit snug.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/01/2008 15:39

Hi folks,

Always good to hear from you sagpuss, glad things are going well with you and evie.

Regarding the sleeping in the pushchair thing, I have to admit it's probably a case of "it's not you, it's me" Basically I tried putting him down to sleep in his cot for about three days sometime in november, and to be honest for the most part it did work but it was so damn cold, I was worried about him freezing up there all by himself. And when I wrapped him up warmly I was worried about him overheating. You remember those first days when we worried about EVERYTHING???

I will try it again, as of tomorrow night (because I usually do a bath/milk/sleep routine but I've just had to bath him now because he weed all over himself so won't be doing it tonight) I think he'll be fine, it's not so cold these days and he's got a good set of lungs on him so I'm sure he'll let me know if he's not happy!

Food is going well as usual, but he woke up 4am this morning again asking for milk, which adds an extra feed to the day so I might up his feeds to 8oz and make sure he has a filling tea if his appetite is growing.

Gill, if you want to do the postbirth doula thing then just give it a go. Don't listen to that person who said they weren't needed. It wasn't so long ago some of us on here would have been really grateful for a little help or for someone to mind the baby while we got a bit of sleep. In fact I wouldn't mind that now, what are you doing THIS weekend?

Pink thanks for your thoughts on the childminding thing. I suppose you could always work in a nursery/preschool if you didn't fancy a total change in career!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/01/2008 15:47

....And the award for the most smilies in one post goes to... lol

Just popped back on to say MAMAMILA, TOKENTOTTY, HERSETTA, CONKER, STIG, and anyone else I've failed to mention- don't worry if you haven't got time to read the thread, drop in and say hello!

GillL · 22/01/2008 16:28

Thanks guys. I'm not going to let her put me off. I phoned the contact today and left a voice mail. She's not around til next week but I'll let you know how it goes.

James - if I lived near you I'd definitely come round

I did that to dd a while ago tasha. She had her hand between the door frame and the door (hinge side) and I tried to close it. Her hand bled and she had a big purple bruise I felt so bad but she was fine after about 5 minutes.

My2Weegirls · 22/01/2008 16:38

gill - fancy being a 24 week post-natal doula? you'd get a wee trip to scotland out of it

i hate exercising too tasha! just walked with dd2 to the dr's surgery to pick up prescriptions and they were closed for training - it a 2 mile round trip and up hill ALL the way home arrrrrgh! hope it all goes well and will be thinking of you and your wee one

shrinking when are the builders going to finish???

My2Weegirls · 22/01/2008 16:39
