Hi All

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TASHA your catching up to us now

My week got even better today, Got up early cleaned house and got ds and LL looking gorgeous, myself too, as we were meeting friends and going to a magic show but it was quite cold so after buckling them in I ran back to get a blanket with car door ajar, but the central locking was on and the keys were in car, so came back to locked car kids inside tried to get ds to unbutton his 5 point safty harness, he tried hard but no luck called for help, tried to break window, couldn't waited but then ds got frustrated and started kicking LL in face, so smashed window with hammer and nail punch the way to do it)apparently. to say it ruined the day would a bit light, but as dh said 'you didn't kill them'

JB- you are so into this feeding thing, i need some of your enthusiasm. LL is still putting ion weight OK on bf but when it drops i'll go solids

not much else happening, although LL did sleep a record 12 hours last night, with one dummy pop back in, hopefully tonight i'll go to bed before 1am to appreciate some of it.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 17/01/2008 12:00

Oh Uki what a nightmare! You poor thing, have a cuppa. I think everyone has done something like that before! My best one so far (and I've done it about three times, too) is carefully strapping J into his carseat, putting the seatbelt around the carseat.. and then not plugging it in.

Well, contradicting my own advice about being 6 months to start blw, out of curiosity I just gave lo a quarter of my banana (with the skin on half of it, like a handle) expecting him to inspect it and maybe have a cautious lick... and with my little bruiser's usual delicacy, he shoved- and I do mean SHOVED- it straight in his mouth and bit down.

He looked quite surprised, then a bit pleased with himself, then shoved his fingers in to retrieve the whopping lump he bit off and gagged a bit (but just spat out the lumps and didn't look upset) so on the whole he was ok with it! Don't know if he swallowed anything, but it being banana, I daresay we'll know by the telltale "black worms" in his nappy tomorrow.

But after just three minutes with a banana, he'd strangled it all over himself, the mess was astonishing. Be warned.

Gill, as I said, lo regularly smacks me, arches his back and generally acts yobbish when I bottlefeed him. He also constantly attempts to peel my fingers off the bottle which is just SO annoying as it's a constant battle. No idea if it's because he doesn't want to be held, as he still finishes his bottle eventually.

My2Weegirls · 17/01/2008 12:08

another ER fan here!

my big girl is 3 today and she slept a record 11 hours last night - think i can count on one hand the number of times that's happened! dd2 was up at 12 and 4 though.

oh uki - what a day! it's the hassle of getting it fixed as well.

well done on the weight loss gill

james - i can sympathise - my sinus's are throbing too, hope you are better today.

GillL · 17/01/2008 16:08

What a nightmare uki. I am constantly checking that my keys are in my pocket/hand when I leave the house and when I'm going back and forth to put dcs and bags in the car. I'm sure I'll do the same one day.

Thanks my2weegirls. Happy birthday to dd1! What did you get for her? I'm thinking of getting my dd a slide and little trampoline for the garden. At the moment all she's got is a scooter and a little ride along thing. It's so much hassle having to put the paddling pool up and down all the time in summer, although I might get a much smaller one that I can just shove in the shed (still blown up) in the evening. Won't it be lovely to get our babies out in the garden to play this summer

leifmum · 17/01/2008 21:30

thanks for that link james - i'll have a look later.

i'm glad i'm not the only one struggling with the bottlefeeding at the moment. i might try putting dd in her bouncy chair and see if that helps because it really is becoming a nightmare. the only one she wolfs down woth no problem is her last one before bed. in fact tonight she wolfed it down far too quickly and i think could have done with more. she still settled eventually, just hope she doesn't get hungry overnight!

did have lovely time with her after her teatime bottle. had her over my shoulder to burp her and she fell asleep there which she hasn't dne for a couple of months really. slept for over an hour as well. it was so nice just having one of those gorgeous cuddles with her snuffling into me like she was new born. i really miss it!!! typically all her weight was on my bladder and i was desperate for the loo but hey, you can't have everything!

enjoy er everyone

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 17/01/2008 21:45

Aaw, James won't sleep like that but when I carry him upstairs asleep his head lolls on my shoulder just for a few seconds and it's so adorable. You know when they're all curled up asleep and you pick them up and they stay the same shape with their little bums stuck out? aaw.

Had a small disaster today in boots. I was just waiting around for dp, wasn't expecting to buy anything so didn't pick up a basket, but then I saw that they had a few things on sale. Anyway picked up a couple of jars of food for James, and was just going to find the baskets when I tried to push the pushchair through an aisle with a column in it, the space was a bit narrow and the wheel bumped into the shelf, and the jolt made me lose my grip on the jars, and it fell on lo's head.

Of course he was in absolutely hysterical tears, and he went bright red so I couldn't tell where it had hit his little head. I was almost in tears myself as he'd been sat there so nicely playing with his little toy and watching the world go by. I was convinced everyone who went past must have thought I'd hit him or something! Poor little sod.

Can't see a lump or a mark or anything but still feel bad about it. As dp pointed out, as soon as he's mobile he'll be banging his head and hurting himself, and they do survive, but at the moment I still near hyperventilate with horror at the thought of anything happening to my pfb.

tasha22 · 17/01/2008 23:07

oh uki poor your wat a nightmare, i done something similar, before ds3 was born and ds2 was only about 10 weeks old i went outside to get the post and ds1 closed the door and i waas locked out for about an hour trying to tell my 2 year old son to go to the kitchen and get the keys then stand on the buggy and post it through the letter box lol i really started panicing when lo started crying but eventually he done it!! lol and james there isnt a day goes by when my ds2 doesnt bang his head he always falls and always has a fresh bump yesterday he tumbled right down the stairs, dont beat yourself up about it

My2Weegirls · 18/01/2008 08:41

james - it was probably more the fright of it rather than him being hurt. they are sturdy wee things , and just wait till he's on the move.

dd2 lifts her head and shoulders off the ground and holds them up for ages then relaxes and thumps her head off the floor.

if i'm putting things in the bin/or getting stuff out of the car then i've got to take the house keys with me otherwise dd1 locks me out! fortunately the one time it happened the patio doors were open.

i taped ER last night so no one say anything about it till i get a chance to watch

gill - i had loads of stuff let over from xmas (bought way to much for her so kept some back). she got dora back pack/map etc, books, games, clothes, dvd's etc. one of my brothers bought her a double swing and seesaw - which she will love but i kind of wish they'd asked us first as it will take up most of the garden (and it needs built up too). and she's suddenly looking very grown up.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/01/2008 11:23

Lucky girl! Sounds like she got loads of lovely presents.

Feel just exhausted today after dp came to bed tipsy at 1am and kept me up til almost three, and then James started stirring so I was up til 3.30am, and he woke up for a feed at 6.30am and didn't get back to sleep properly all morning, just lay there and sang and whinged, no matter how long I cuddled him for. It's one of those days where I should be doing loads but just feel like dozing on the sofa.

I posted on a local meet-a-mum board about perhaps meeting a few local mums at a cafe for a cuppa and a chat- I got a response today but looked at the girl's profile and she looks like a model, a bit "footballers wives" into keeping fit and stuff. (god dammit, why can't some of you have bobbly cardigans and split ends like me????) so I'm having second thoughts about meeting up as she'd probably think I was a right loser lol

Oh, I can hear lo grunting, better go x

tasha22 · 18/01/2008 12:14

my2weegirls she did get alot hope she enjoyed her day. james it would do you good to get out and meet mums, im sure she was just posing for the picture, im like that if im getting my picture taken i have to go and do my hair and makeup first lol but alot of the time my hair is tied in a knot and i dont have time to do my makeup.
were thinking of moving to Australia im scared lol ill miss my mum but dp thinks we will have a better life there and he could get a better job.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/01/2008 12:39

Bloody hell Tasha! where did that come from? lol

Just had some good news, we've been offered two chocolate chenille cord sofas on freecycle (one 3 seater and one 2 seater), so we can finally replace our horrible sofas (one snapped in the middle when I was very pregnant and has been held up with a roasting tray ever since, the other has a snapped leg which is held in place by gravity and hope)

There's no way we could ever have afforded new sofas so I am just beyond chuffed right now. Really hoping they fit through our front door or I'll cry my eyes out!

Uki · 18/01/2008 13:05

Ha tasha- well if you move, you have one friend here already, feel free to ask me anything about life in Oz

i haven't caught up on the rest of the posts, but yes my window is still broken and going to be quite pricy to fix (ouch) will definately keep keys in pocket on ground or anywhere but floor of car when putting Lo's in

Very late here now, night all

leifmum · 18/01/2008 13:13

hey uki! whereabouts in oz are you? i met my dh when we were both on a gap year down under. we were on the same tour of kakadu. constantly wishing we could emigrate, have got one friend in tas, one in perth and a few in adelaide. it jut gets so complicated when you're leaving family behind. i was offered a job in nz a few years ago but i wasn't 100% sure about moving there.

took matilda swimming again this morning which was fun. she starts lessons in a couple of weeks so we're looking forward to that. quite depressing putting my bikini on though, not got quite the same body as when i bought it!

going to suffolk later today to spend weekend with my mum and dad so best get packing.

happy weekend

Pinkranger · 18/01/2008 13:16

Hey ladies, you have al been busy on here,
UKI - what a nightmare for you! I would have panicked!
James - as someone said they are robust little things, they bounce back so quick!

Hope was are all well, We have got a really good routine going here now ( i am whispering that of course) - 3 meals a day ( pudding aswell at night) bath at 6.30 bed by 7.30 and sleeps until 6.30ish!!!! i know that will change when he starts teething but i can enjoy it while it last!!

went to WW last night and Lost 2lb _ Loler how you dooing with it??

GillL · 18/01/2008 15:27

I did something really stupid this morning (told you it was due uki ). I had to take the morning off work so mum could go to her hospital appointment without having to take the kids. I left the house so I could pick her up and take her to the hospital. It was 9am so there were queues of cars going up and down our road to school. I was a bit stressed trying to get ds's car seat strapped in with people waiting to get by and it was raining (again). So I got straight in the car forgetting to CLOSE the front door. I didn't even just forget to double lock it!!! I was so relieved when I got back to find that no one had been in and taken anything. I was double relieved that I hadn't decided to wait at my mum's and go straight to work from there. The door would have been open all day.

Anyway - my day got much better at 2 o'clock when I had my appraisal. I got the top grade 'O' for outstanding Hopefully this means I'll get a pay rise this year. Normally I get a letter from the boss telling me she's decided not to give me a pay rise but here's a small bonus payment to keep you happy.

Poor James. Dd knocked the heavy, metal, pointy remote onto ds's head a while ago. He was none too pleased but was fine after a few minutes.

Go for it James. She'll probably be really pleased she's found someone to meet up with. I always feel underdressed with my 'mum' friends. I never bother with make up and they always look lovely. I'm sure she will take you as you are and appreciate you for your wonderful personality.

Well done pink!

loler · 18/01/2008 17:59

Pink - had a week of eating rubbish all day then as many free veg as I can find for tea. Some how haven't gone over allowance but as I get 32 points because of BFing can't see how I'll ever lose any weight! I spose instead of eating whole pack of biscuits I'm limiting myself to half! How's school going? Can't believe we're only in the 2nd week of the 2nd term - not sure I can keep doing this for the next 11 years!

Banana - never judge a book by it's cover - one of my best friends is the most glam mum you could ever meet and has never had a bad photo taken of her, but she is also the nicest person ever and wouldn't even think about what anyone else looks like. You could be missing out on a new best friend! She's probably really nervious too!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/01/2008 19:29

Yeah I know I'm being crap it's just my confidence is really low and women like that always manage to make me feel like I'm not good enough. Same reason I still haven't been to any mother and baby groups.

Had a bit of a crap day today, I can't live on 3 hours sleep. James has whinged ALL DAY because I'm too tired to do anything much with him, so he hasn't used up any energy, and so he just wouldn't nap which means I'm even more burnt out.

Diet's going to shit, too tired to cook so I've eaten bread and biscuits all day.

Still, at least it's the weekend now so dp can help a bit. (Stop moaning, nana!)

Hope you all have nice weekends x

tasha22 · 20/01/2008 18:31

hey all hope everyone had a good weekend, i was out on friday night and had a huge hangover yesterday, vodka lemonade and lime goes down too easy! lol
james you need to meet new people to get your confidence up, i need to do that too. glad you got a sofa you sound well chuffed.
australia sounds really good but were not gonna make any definate decisions until we get the visa but to be honest im not sure i can leave my family.

GillL · 21/01/2008 10:16

Morning all. Had a tiring weekend. Dd didn't sleep very well. And ds has spent the last 2 nights rolling all around his cot and then whinging when his face is pressed up against the bars and he can't move. Last night he woke me up so often that I got fed up. I've got a touch activated lamp and I hit it so hard it woke dh up. He then put ds in the bed with me and went to sleep downstairs. He's spending a lot of time on the sofa these days. I felt a bit bad but not that bad cos it's always me that has to get up to sort ds out.

Ds did 2 complete rolls across the living room floor yesterday. We'll have to start baby proofing the house again as he's trying to commando crawl. Dd did that at his age but she was a lot smaller and lighter. Ds is having trouble shifting his weight. It's nice to see him develop but when it causes sleepless nights I'd rather he couldn't do it.

tasha22 · 21/01/2008 10:36

oh poor you gill, he seems to really be getting on the move! hopefully as he gets more used to rolling he will be able to get himself out of them situations. im really tierd today aswell but its more down to a bottle of wine

Uki · 21/01/2008 10:53

Hi All

I finally have photos yay!!!! I finally found where i wrote my password so you can check us all out now.

leif- kakadu is superb isn't it, how funny you met your dp here, now you'll have to come back for your anniversary/s. I bet you have nice memories

My dp is half English and his uncle/aunt and all his cousins come out once or twice a
year, they love it, and still haven't seen all of Oz. neither have I though, too big. at the end of the year i have a job up the coast, and it will take 7 hours and i won't even have left the state.
I'm in New South wales, i was in inner city Sydney, but having a tree change in the country, 2 hours from syd now.

part of the reason for moving was to get away from my mum, she has become a bit overbearing since I've had dc's 24/7 advice and they are all these bloody 1950 ideas about child rearing, I've told her many times that these are so wrong/out of date, but she won't listen. We do get on very well though.

I love the UK too, your houses are so much more charming than ours, and it's so greeeeen.

Gill- morning, poor you, i'm dreading putting LL in the cot, as he now rolls and slides so i'm sure he will wake himself up. ATM he is still in basinette, a bit snug though. dp ends up in C's bed 99% of nights as he wakes up, and dp goes in and falls asleep in his double bed, so LL has his 5am feed with me and stays in my bed, ridiculous but hey if they sleep we sleep.

LL was trying to run away from home already, i put him on the carpet and next thing he was nearly out the door- slid about 2 meters. I don't blame him though C is so noisy/chatty/whiny/screaming most of the day that it would be nice to get some peace.

tasha22 · 21/01/2008 11:20

they are lovely uki, and it looks so nice there. well just changed ds2 stinky bum and he pulled the dirty nappy an top of himself twice!?!?!?

tasha22 · 21/01/2008 11:57

weighed myself last night im 8stone but how when i have a belly?

leifmum · 21/01/2008 12:30

tasha - 8 stone?!!!! you must be tiny! hope the hangover's gone now. i cannot take my wine at all now, complete lightweight!

uki - kakadu was fab but seems such a long time ago now! closest i came to living in sydney was staying in manly for about 3 months. really loved it, being by the ocean is just fab and something i long to do, whatever country we end up in!

our weekend was quite good. we were staying at my folks so they loved seeing little one. she's normally pretty good at settling somewhere that's not home at night but seems to play up far more during the day. won't go down for her naps, messes about with her feeds. it made me quite stressed, compounded by pmt so was nice to come home last night! it did mean on saturday night me and dh managed to get to the pub for a couple of hours and we didn't even argue!!

went to a couple of estate agents this morning but nothing nice that we can afford at moment. seeing mortgage advisor tomorrow so hopefully we can sort out a better deal and free up some more money a month.

dd has been very whingy this morning but has just gone to bed so i'm hoping i'll get an hour's peace at least

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/01/2008 12:55

Lovely pics Uki, LL is a cutie!

Tasha, I think you're allowed a belly after having three babies. Don't try to lose too much weight just so you get rid of the belly, just wear magic knickers instead! 8st doesn't sound like much, are you sure it's ok for your height?

Gill, sorry to hear about your broken nights sleep. It's a bit of a weird coincidence actually, lo woke me up at 4am this morning with his face wedged against the bars of his cot staring at me and whinging cos he couldn't roll away. Hope he doesn't take after yours and do it several times a night then!

Lo is loving trying finger foods and has munched his way through pear, banana, mango and baby rice cakes, and even swallowed the soggy lumps of rice cake which come apart iyswim. He still eats his purees enthusiastically but I think he'd happily switch to feeding himself given the chance, he'll eat almost anything, in any form (but doesn't like uber-bland jar food like cauliflower cheese or bubble and squeak- and pureed mango got all manner of shudders, while a chunk of mango got sucked to death- weird child!)

Just got my childminder registration info through. Not sure if I'm doing the right thing to apply. Who was it who said they were a childminder on this thread? Do you enjoy it, and is it fun for you, or just work?

Meant to take lo swimming today but it's too cold, can't face it.
