tasha- just explain to nursery that you are in the prosess of changing names. You are allowed to call yourself anything you want so for a few weeks it shouldn't matter.

had enough of ds1 - if i say don't do something he does it anyway - not sure why. think it might be a male gene thing dd was bad but never as bad as him! still hoping the less hormonal teenage years of a boy will pay back for toddler years!

day 2 of diet and can't stop thinking about food. keep wanting to weigh myself to see if it's worked yet.

that's an example of ds1 being told not to touch!

shrinkingsagpuss · 09/01/2008 17:41

Chatterboxes!1

I am sooo of your sleeping babies!! DD seems to got through a cycle, one n ight til 5, next til 3, next til 1.30, then awake again at 4 or 5, then 12.30 and up at 4 or 5. there is no reason for it that I can find and its driving me mad! I know she CAN go through til 5, so why the hell doesnt she!!

ops, she squeaking, its that time of night, and DS is plonnked in front of the TV watching his ration of CBEEBies for the day.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to add myself somewhat belatedly to this thread! had dd 3rd august 07. can't believe she's 5 months already!!!! can hear the angel wanting to get up right now so will have to catch up later!!! hope you all have good day

My2Weegirls · 10/01/2008 09:29

hi leifmum - welcome! my dd2 was born 7th aug - it's frightening how time flies

shrinking - fingers crossed it does onlt take 4 weeks! is your ds ok about his room being split? dd2 does a sleep cycle thing too - my preferred one is 7.30 asleep, 1am milk, 6am up (anf for dd1 to sleep from 7.30 till 6am - butthat has only happened once! )

ouch - dd2 is grabbing my hair and shaking it, better go and pay her some attention

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/01/2008 11:01

Welcome to the thread leifmum! My ds was born a day after yours. 22 weeks old already, how time flies! Is she your first baby?

Well I've officially given up on bibs, as he smothers himself with the damn things and gags on them, so I have two or three old discoloured babygrows which I can pop on over his clothes. He looks rather disgusting in them but they do the job really well!

When I was visiting my niece last week who has an 11 month old ds, I put James in her highchair and fed him. She hovered behind me with a pack of babywipes the whole time going "oh no, he's covered in food, look at his hands!! don't you want a wipe?" and when I said no she couldn't understand why I'd be happy to let lo get in a mess.

Sil walked in and said "oh, she can't bear any mess, (niece) uses a babywipe on her baby's face after every mouthful"- I was like and realised this was why her ds has eczema all over his face. And probably why he's 11 months old and still on 4 month old smooth purees. I think he's learnt not to trust food. Apparently he gags on the slightest hint of a lump, whereas his 5 month old cousin here gets stuck in, and doesn't seem to mind the odd lumpy bit too much (bits that escape the sieve)

Was funny though, the look of horror on her face as lo "washed" his hands in his dinner lol It must have felt really nice, he was staring in fascination at his hands as he did it.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/01/2008 11:09

Gill, was just going to say J loved his bath support thingy, we filled the bath up really deep (the max fill level is like two inches deep, that's not enough to splash in! )and he kicked for ages with a massive grin on his face, even when he splashed water in his eyes. I was pouring water on his tummy and he was going mental! He was shattered afterwards, so he was asleep in bed for 7pm! faaantastic.

GillL · 10/01/2008 12:02

Dd was like a different child yesterday so we must have done something right. Mum said she behaved very well (for the first time in weeks) despite having to go into town twice (for playschool - not dd, her cousin) and then to school. She complained a bit when dh picked her up but he threatened her with the 'step' and then she was ok. When she got home we sat her down for dinner, then got her dressed for bed and took her up. She didn't complain, cry or call us when she was up there. My good little girl's back - fingers crossed it lasts. Some people have said that tantrums are obviously normal for a 2 year old but I don't see why I should have to put up with it if I can change it.

sagpuss - ds wakes up at least 3 times per night most nights. Fortunately I don't have to feed him and just have to put his dummy back in his mouth. It's hard having my sleep broken though and dh never wakes up for some reason. He often tells me he's slept like a log when I've been up and down like a yoyo all night Have you had any joy finding a weekend childminder yet?

Welcome leifmum. My ds was born on 15th Aug and I have a 2.9 yr old dd as well.

James - have you seen those jacket type bibs? They cover the torso and arms and are lined with plastic so the food/drink doesn't go through to the clothes. I find them invaluable. Lol at your neice. My sister is terrible with cleanliness too and used to wipe her dc's faces a lot while feeding. Then her ds started complaining every time he had any food on his face and expected it to be cleaned before he would continue eating. She also cleans their hands with antibacterial gel if a stranger touches them!

Ds loves his bath too. He kicks so hard he normally soaks my clothes, hair, the floor and walls. It's a shame I only get time to bath him at the weekend.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/01/2008 13:47

Well, James is hungrily devouring a pot of butternut squash and pear for lunch, after his big bowl of banana porridge this morning. Maybe he does need lunch as well?!?

Oh god I looked away and he's rubbing it into his eyeballs. Gotta go. x

My2Weegirls · 10/01/2008 13:54

well dd2 is now 20lb 10oz - she's now back on the chart instead of being above it all the time.

tasha - did your ds2 sleep in the travel cot last night?

james - messy noisey eaters was the 1 thing (apart from people constantly sniffing) that used to really get me all tense and wound up and wanting to shout.....until DD1 came along and i realised i had to get over the mess - so i can sympathise with your neice a bit (but that's very extreme). i do have to confess to blocking it from my memory about how bloody messy it is - DD2 is now getting dinner every night and i just love it when she blows raspberrys with a mouthful of food or when she sneezes.

gill - so glad about your dd, maybe her tonsils and xmas were all contributing to aking her more excited than normal? hope she keeps the good behaviour up.

got another water baby here too - though she hates getting her hair dried.

i'm going to make loads of veg to freeze toady - got some neeps in the babycook just now (how did i ever live without it!) and they smell lovely

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/01/2008 14:08

My2weegirls: yeah James has just figured out how to blow raspberries, but he only does it when dp is out of the room so he doesn't believe me! I was just feeding J in his bouncy chair on the floor and he sneezed squash and pear all over my crotch so I know what you mean.

No idea what he weighs any more- to be honest I'm not too concerned about getting him weighed anymore, he's a good eater and he's only "festively plump" so that's good enough for me!

Oh well, off to attack the orange gooey baby with a wet jay cloth. Again.

Pinkranger · 10/01/2008 14:25

i love it when they make a mess part of the fun if you are not in a hurry - How many bottles of milk are your lo having now , i know they start to cut it down soon????

My2Weegirls · 10/01/2008 14:51

ok - i've made so much veg that i've ran out of containers - could i use paper party cups and cover them with cling film to put in the freezer???

My2Weegirls · 10/01/2008 14:53

pink - dd2 is still taking as much milk as she has been - there's no pattern with what she takes either - sometimes she'll take 8oz and other times only 3oz.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/01/2008 14:53

J has 4 bottles, and 3 meals. Beemn giving sips of water with meals and after his bath as he seems thirsty. Sorry to be posting a lot today but James is having one of those days where he cries as soon as I go to do anything so I've given up and we're playing with sleighbells and watching inappropriate music vids instead.

GillL · 10/01/2008 16:06

Thanks m2weegirls. I totally agree about the babycook. It makes things so easy that I can make ds a couple of pots of dinner in the half hour I have left in the evening before going to bed.

pink - ds varies on his bottles. Sometimes he will have 4 bottles and sometimes 5 regardless of whether he has solids or not. He can drink anything between 4 and 8oz.

tasha21 · 10/01/2008 16:13

sorry havent had chance to get on and now have to make dinner so ill be quick.
welcome leifmum, my little one was born on the 30th 2 months prem so he is a bit behind with all these babies but have to brag and say he did sleep from 12 last night til 9.30 thismorning (tasha hides behind lo to dodge any items being thrown)

my2weegirls- yes ds2 slept in travel cot last night but i made it all nice for him with hanging toys and loads of comfy blankets and he seemed to be ok with it, while king lo got the cot and basically slept all night.

yes so i slept in and missed his appointment with hv and had to book a new one for next week

he is taking 4 oz now every 3-4 hours depending on how he feels mabe even 2 hours on occasions

help i dont know weather to get a new double buggie or a triple??

leifmum · 10/01/2008 16:23

hi everyone! dd is my first, but hopefully not my last!

i've started giving her some purees this week as i think she's ready for something other than milk! so far sweet potato is the favourite! can't wait until the magic six month mark though when she can have pretty much what we do! she has four bottles a day but seems to be getting bit fed up/frustrated with them now! haven't really tried giving her water. are people using sippy cups or doidy cups?

I'm very lucky in that she pretty much sleeps through every night and we've just got day time naps sorted! gives me time to come on mn but not entirely sure that's a good thing what with my facebook habit too!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/01/2008 16:33

Tasha, saw this thread and thought of you! No idea about double or triple buggies. What do you do at the moment? use a sling with the double buggy?

Was going to ask if you ever used your local freecycle to ask if anyone has a cot or double/triple buggy they no longer use? I do it all the time, I've had a sofa, my cot, a pushchair, babyswing, steriliser, clothes, babybath, changing unit, fireguard... amongst other things!

Have a look on freecycle.org to find your local group, I think your options are:

Co. Leitrim (Ireland, Ireland)
City of Cork (Ireland, Ireland)
Co Wicklow (Ireland, Ireland)
County Donegal (Ireland, Ireland)
Mayo (Ireland, Ireland)
County Carlow (Ireland, Ireland)
County Kerry (Kingdom) (Ireland, Ireland)
Galway (Ireland, Ireland)
Dublin (Ireland, Ireland)
Waterford (Ireland, Ireland)
Westmeath (Ireland, Ireland)
Sligo (Ireland, Ireland)
Tipperary (Ireland, Ireland)
Roscommon (Ireland, Ireland)
County Kildare (Ireland, Ireland)
Limerick (Ireland, Ireland)
Ennis (Ireland, Ireland)
County Wexford (Ireland, Ireland)
Cavan/Monaghan (Ireland, Ireland)

Are any of those close enough to be of any use?

tasha21 · 10/01/2008 17:27

thanks james id never heard of freecycle, ill have a look at them, at the minute i never leave the house alone lol

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/01/2008 19:51

Hi leifmum, sorry didn't mean to ignore your post before but lo did an impressive poo and after I'd sorted him out I forgot what I was doing!

Ah, I haven't tried lo with sweet potato, but he seems to enjoy most things so far. He had lancashire hotpot and strawberry petit filous for dinner. Keep trying with the sippy cup but he doesn't know what do with it, so I give him cold water from a 4oz avent bottle, he can almost hold that himself now.

Well, J is finally asleep so I'm hopefully off downtown for a boogie with my friends. First one in 7 months, whee!

tasha21 · 10/01/2008 20:42

surprisingly it looks like my wee one is trying to hold his bottle but could be my imagination. wish he could take a normal bottle i really hate these haberman ones and they are sooo expensive. but no cup yet i wonder wat sort of cup he would need
leifmum -good to hear your lo is sleeping all night it makes such a difference doesn't it? i remember before lo was born and getting the boys to bed at 7pm and ds2 only waking once aroun 4am it was great. my lo is up and down he tends to stay awake from 7 through to 12 or 1am and when he sleeps through them times he is up all night! lol all boys sleeping at the moment (crosses fingers, touches 20 different objects made of wood!)
Have a great night james you deserve it!!!

leifmum · 11/01/2008 10:03

Hi James! hope you had a good time last night! i had my first night out alone last friday. missed lo but after a few beers surprisingly not as much!! was great peeping in on her when i got home though and it was nice that dh managed the whole bedtime thing on his own. when he's tried before and i've been in the house there's been complete meltdown!

today the weather looks pants so think we'll be mostly staying in.

hope everyone got some sleep last night!

GillL · 11/01/2008 13:05

Hello. How is everyone? I'm glad it's Friday. It's been a busy week and stressful with dd at the beginning. Work has been a bit pants the last couple of days. I manage 3 small teams and one of them has had 2 out of 3 staff off sick so I have had to muck in.

Thank god the dcs have finished their luminous yellow anti-biotics. Ds must be over his illness as he's feeding much better. He's actually finishing most of his 8oz bottles again now.

Tasha - Glad your lo slept well. I've never heard of a triple buggy but if I were you I'd get a double that you can fit a 2 step buggy board to. That way you can have ds1 walking and if he gets tired he can sit or stand on the buggy board. Whichever you choose, you'll have arms like popeye soon, especially if you have to walk up and down that steep hill regularly.

I haven't tried sweet potato yet either. I've got some ready and waiting in the freezer but I made it just before ds got ill so I haven't had to chance to try him with it. Mum gave him the sweet vegetable medley yesterday and said he didn't seem too impressed but he ate half of it so he must have liked it. He started crying so she just gave him his milk. Did some butternut squash last night. He'll be trying that tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. I keep meaning to do some fruit. I'm sure ds will be more than happy to gobble some apple and pear down. Dd's always hated apple but then she's recently been quite fussy when it comes to fruit and veg.

leifmum - what's a doidy cup? I've tried ds with a non-spill beaker but he got a bit frustrated because the water didn't come out quickly enough and I had to swap it for a small bottle. I've seen a MAM trainer cup that looks quite good and it's got small handles so he can try to hold it himself. It took me a very long time to get dd used to drinking from cups and I tried loads of them. She still had bottles of milk up til quite recently and she's nearly 3.

Hope the weather gets better. I got soaked this morning just getting the dcs to and from the car. My shoes and socks are still a bit damp.
