There I go, rambling again I'll be giving James a run for her money on the longest post

I slept much better last night thanks leifmum. Ds didn't wake til 4:30am. I put his dummy back in and he slept til 6. Much better than usual.

James - hope you had fun.

tasha21 · 11/01/2008 13:15

glad to hear the kids are feeling better gill. and after me bragging about lo sleeping he was up half the night and so was ds1 he came down and got in beside me and lay awake for 3 hours just cuddling me and kissing me bless he means well but i was tierd!lol
james had a go on that site and someone came back to me with a double buggie, o i hope its lighter than mine. think your right gill about the triple buggie, im thinking one of them buggy pods now seen a couple on ebay.
james-hangover?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/01/2008 13:30

Hangover.......

Bleurgh I feel horrible and sick. Good night but I drank far too much! J slept through thank goodness, didn't feel happy leaving dp to get him to bed as he occasionally goes into massive hysterics if things aren't done the way he likes them. He did it last time I was due to go out and I had to stay home and calm him down.

James has jut discovered how to arch his back, and does it everytime I try to get him to go down for a nap. Yay.

leifmum · 11/01/2008 13:34

Hi Gill! a doidy cup is just a normal plastic cup with no lid or spout but it's kind of slanted. meant to make it easier to drink out of because theoretically lo can see fluid better and they don't get a sudden deluge. have tried it a couple of times but she just lets the water run straight out of her mouth. might just try a cup with a spout. not too worried at mo because she's still having aorund 30oz milk a day so doesn't need the fluid just yet!

she had banana for lunch today and i think the verdict was yummy!

how did you feel going back to work? i think i'll have to be working again from april so negotiating a potential new position at the moment. half dreading it but will be nice to be me again iykwim!

GillL · 11/01/2008 15:41

I felt a bit bad going back to work when ds was so young (15 weeks) but on the positive side he now has a good bond with my mum and there's no separation anxiety to worry about (yet). Dd got a bit upset as she'd been at home with me for 4 months but she soon got over it. She still asks some mornings if I'll be staying at nanny's with her that day It's good having adult conversation and full pay (we'd have been living on the streets if I'd stayed home any longer). I like the fact that I can go to the loo without being followed I miss my dcs but I appreciate the time I have with them much more. Are you going back to work full time or part time leifmum?

James - does arching his back stop him from settling to sleep? Ds wakes every morning now on his tummy whinging cos he's stuck and can't move. I can't wait for him to be able to turn back over.

leifmum · 11/01/2008 15:47

won't be going back full time because my hours were insane. wouldn't be able to afford the childcare and more importantly would never see lo. trying to arrange two day a week, hopefully one of which i can be based at home. financially will be very difficult but will see how it goes.

just managed to go out for quick walk and bought tiniest bar of chocolate i could find! feeling quite virtuous!

GillL · 11/01/2008 16:09

childcare prices are ridiculous. I'm fortunate that my mum's a childminder and I don't have to pay her. She's only taking on grandchildren now she's approaching 60. She had to have 2 operations in the last few years and it nearly bankrupted us having to pay over £600 per month on childcare. I'd have to give up work if I had to pay that every month or dh would have to get a much higher paid job.

mmmmmmm, chocolate. I've been eating too much of that recently. Dh got a couple of boxes from project managers at work and it's just too hard to resist.

Finally it's stopped raining. I might not get soaked going home now.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/01/2008 17:11

£600 a month on childcare? That's outrageous. When I go back to work (in a few short weeks) I'm hoping to leave lo in my best friend's mum's care, as she's been a registered childminder for over 30 years. She's planning on giving it up in july though so hopefully we can move closer to my sister by then and she can mind him for free/cheap.

I'm probably only going to be doing two or three days a week max, as I just need to make about £120 to get by. My other idea was to do a whole night shelfstacking or something on a friday/saturday night, (I've heard the money is good at night) and let dp look after him in the morning/afternoon while I caught up on sleep.

Gill, J arches his back everytime he's annoyed, it's his way of saying no! In fact he's doing it right now because he doesn't fast flow teats. It's like trying to feed a bucking bronco.

catch up in a sec, but how cute?!?!
dont know how to shorten links

tasha21 · 11/01/2008 17:59

leifmum never heard of them cups.
all you mums seem so organised with your puree, i never done it always used jars or dried
600!!! my goodness i could never afford to work

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/01/2008 18:08

Dp has gone to his friends for the weekend (male friends, not that girl) so I'm having a relaxing evening doing whatever I want- which will probably amount to stewing apples and pears for J and having a nice long soak in the bath.

Dp messed up lo's routine a bit this morning, I'd fed him at 6.30am, and left him in dp's hands while I had a lie in to try and sleep off my hangover for a bit. Anyway got up later and had been up a while, James was grizzling and I said "what time did you feed him?" and he said "you didn't tell me to feed him" it was 1pm!!!

I didn't tell him to feed himself either but somehow he managed it!

I'm familiar with the crap man technique of pretending to be useless so they aren't asked to do things again. You know, washing up in cold water, only hoovering a circle in the middle of the carpet, dusting around ornaments... but you'd think when it came to looking after the baby they'd grow the fuck UP.

LOL, I just looked down and James is blowing raspberries with his dinner (and spitting it down his chin) and appears to be watching my face to see if I laugh! Cheeky monkey...

tasha21 · 11/01/2008 18:21

lol at your dp james, although i shouldnt laugh. your relaxing weekend

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/01/2008 18:30

Aaw tasha, look at him grinning away, what a little sweetie. You're lucky he'll smile for the camera. James smiles all day long but show him a camera and out comes The Frown.

Tasha doing your own food is dead easy, maybe you could give it a try on day if you have some spare time (but don't worry if you haven't got the time, remember most of us are on our first baby! we know you're run off your feet)

All you really need is a hand blender and a sieve, I got my blender for about £3 from asda. All I do is peel and chop an apple/carrot/pear/potato/sweet potato or whatever, and pop it in a steamer or a pan with a little water until it's soft, then put it in a deep jug, blend it with the blender and if it needs it I push it through a sieve (to remove pea or sweetcorn shells or tough fibres for example. Mashed potato etc doesn't normally need it) But to be honest I'm doing away with sieveing in a week or so cos he's coping fine when I forget to sieve!

One of J's favourites is apricot puree, which is just a handful of dried apricots stewed in small amount of water for 10-15 min until soft and squidgy, blended and mixed with a little baby rice, porridge, rusk or petit filous as they taste quite strong and zingy on their own. I'm going to try it with a few dried prunes too.

You can store the purees in the freezer in old baby food jars, or small tupperware pots, and just pop them in the microwave for a minute or two to defrost.

tasha21 · 11/01/2008 18:42

ill have to give it a go, i didnt have any excuse when i just had ds1 appart from being 18 lol you make it sound so easy ill start collecting the yougurt pots, can you use them.
just off to feed ds1 and 2 their burnt lasanga

tasha21 · 11/01/2008 19:30

gonna brake all my smoke alarms they wont stop!!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/01/2008 19:37

Yeah, I'm sure you can use yoghurt pots to freeze the purees in (with clingfilm over the top to keep out fishfinger crumbs or escaping peas) but I would turn the frozen block of puree into a microwavable bowl before defrosting it as I don't think the thin plastic that yoghurt pots are made from is designed for heat and they might melt, split or burn you. Ditto plastic party cups.

I bought small plastic storage bowls with lids 6 for £1 something (Last of the big spenders, me) in the baby aisle in asda which you can freeze, microwave and serve in.

Yay he's asleep, now I can have MY burnt tea, too!

leifmum · 11/01/2008 19:51

tasha, even burnt lasagne sounds better than my tea. just had bowl of wilted salad! trying to be good after five months of pigging out. used to eat healthily but once dd was born that all seemed to disappear! can't use her as an excuse forever though!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/01/2008 20:03

You're not the only one trying to cut down, leifmum. Loler, Gill and myself have been trying to lose weight recently, I'm at slimming world, the diet is pretty good. I just had a (slightly singed) jacket spud with cheese, beans and salad. My dp has gone away and left a huge open tin of quality street a few feet away from me.

leifmum · 11/01/2008 20:09

i think my problem is being at home so much now, seem to be constantly grazing! also my dh cooks whenever he's not working late which is fab, but very difficult to say can i just have a small portion please, or watch him having dessert and abstaining myself. i always thought i had good willpower .

guess i'm more concerned about toning up so trying to do few sit ups etc and make sure i walk at least once a day. may try swimming as well. just getting fed up now with wearing my maternity jeans!!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/01/2008 20:16

I know it well, I can resist everything except temptation.

I just ate four chocs. lol

tasha21 · 11/01/2008 21:37

my alarms went off for 2 hours, i had to get my friend who is an electrician down to stop them i still have ringing in my earslol
well im not bothering with a diet i def couldn't do it i love chocolate too much.
so well done everyone

My2Weegirls · 12/01/2008 10:39

morning - hope your all having good weekends?

it's so white here with the frost that you'd think it had been snowing!

i need to start being good too and stop eating so much - thin k i've put on weight since wee one was born . don't have scales so will need to invest in some.

i've arranged to go in and speak to my manager mid feb to find out what work i could be doing when i go back. going back in april and not looking forward to it . and you've made me think about our childcare costs (just over 800quid a month for the 2 of them! bloody hell!!!). i'm in the wrong job - should become a childminder

tasha - did the alarms wake your ds's up?

tasha21 · 12/01/2008 10:54

my2weegirls its very white here too ds1 thought it had been snowing again, he said 'snowman not all gone'. omg how does anyone afford to work thats about how much id make if i went back!!
nope didn't wake them i was very surprised.

Pinkranger · 12/01/2008 11:10

i am a childminder - but it bloody hard work!! Will be going back to a job away from the home as soon as lo starts school!
James - do you have to sieve the apricot puree ? can it be frozen - have a huge pack of part dried ready to eat ones in the fridge!!

My2Weegirls · 12/01/2008 11:32

pink- i take my hat off to you. i couldn't be a childminder - it's bad enough with my own 2
