Jolly Babies sounds good, does it work??

kneehighinnappies · 05/11/2007 12:30

Right just a 30 sec post as I am busy busy busy trying to get the house packed up.

Z has got his first 2 teeth, down the bottom, he is going to look like a little hippo
L is off she has actualy started to crawl rather than just pulling herself along, she is going quite fast already so I will never have a moments peace again.

Hope everyone one is good and all the LO's are sleeping a bit better for those who's weren't.

Lucewits · 05/11/2007 12:42

MJ, poor little F it's awful when they are like that. Nappy off time is usually the quickest cure for a sore bottom
I also prefer Drapoline Cream when that happens. Hope that she feels better soon.

Crawling????? No thanks S is showing no interest in that at all at the moment. Much prefers being upright so that he is on a level with the other dcs.

Norma, NOooooo dont show me more cute nappies

S cut his first tooth this weekend, I just thought that he was grumpy

Going out to the fireworks tonight with some friends, its our anniversary today too. Where did those 8 years go?

SharpMolarBear · 05/11/2007 12:45

Very brave people doing nappy off time!
Well, it sounds like it might be bath time

oooggs · 05/11/2007 12:45

hi luce we have been married 8 years on saturday (10th) yes it has gone fast!!!!!!!

hi khin x

Sexonlegs · 05/11/2007 12:45

God, everyone is producing teeth and crawling!

SMB, I too am waiting for Tesco man! I thought if I got myself some lunch, he would arrive! Eaten nearly all my soup and no sign yet!!

MJ, poor poor F. I too was going to recommend just using cotton wool and water and sudocreme. Also I wondered about some drops of oil in the bath (cannot remember what it is called, but the stuff recommended for speedy healing of tears, c sec scars). Sorry, my head is mush.

Dippy, hope the fireworks go with a bang - ha ha ha ha. I need to get out more....

I am still worried about K. Sorry to bring this subject up, but as you know it is my fave topic !

I would have thought with eating solid food, K's poo would start to change in terms of colour and smell. It is still green and smells like stewed rhubarb. I have (stupidly) been doing some research, and I think food is moving too quickly through her digestive system, and is making it green and acidic. This would account for her slow weight gain.

Thoughts?

SharpMolarBear · 05/11/2007 12:47

My tesco man has been!
Are you thinking of arnica?
Sorry, can't help with the poo question, have you spoken to HV about it? Sounds reasonable though...

elkiedee · 05/11/2007 12:50

Jolly Babies is a rather nice volunteer run thing for under 2s and their parents/carers at an Under 5s Centre (also volunteer run). We take it in turns to open and lock up the building. There are two rooms - over and under 1, so the walking/toddling babies don't mow the little ones down too much. There are 3 dads and 1 grandmother who come quite regularly as well as the mums.

Guess who's just fallen asleep, I should have known from the squawks!

liath · 05/11/2007 12:52

Mammyjo, metanium is really good for bad nappy rash. It's available from the chemist and you only need a really tiny amount as it speads for miles but gives a very thick chalky layer that protects the sore bits beautifully. It was the only thing that ever worked when dd had a very bad nappy area once.

Lucewits · 05/11/2007 12:52

Oooggs

SOL, I would have a word with HV or GP if you are worried about her.

Sexonlegs · 05/11/2007 12:57

SMB, yes arnica oil that was the stuff.
I am still waiting for my tesco man...

Hiya Luce. HV is kind of on the case, but I don't have much faith in her. She asked me what I thought we should do last week about K's slow weight gain.... I am seeing someone else next week as HV is on holiday, but I think I am going to request that a stool sample to be taken, as I am sure things aren't quite right.

mammyjo · 05/11/2007 13:23

Hello again. Thanks everyone for your advice, really grateful

SOL, it is possible that K has some sort of malabsorbtion type thing, although these are usually quite rare. Taking a stool sample is a really good idea, there are a myriad of tests they can do with poo!! Make sure you ask what they are actually looking for. They can do a test to look for excess fats in the stool, this can be an indicator that the gut is not absorbing as much as it should. Has anyone suggested a lactose intolerance? This can also manifest as nasty poo or a grumpy baby. Not saying K is grumpy, but just another thought!

Sexonlegs · 05/11/2007 13:34

MJ, thank you. The HV did mention malabsorption syndrome last week, hence my manic googling on the subject! Also been looking at lactose intolerance info, as that too coud be a possibility. There is a bit of a history of digestive issues - my dad has chrons, my brother ulcerative colitis and dh IBS. Great!

I will be putting in a request then for the old poo testing then, as I just know something is not quite right. Fortunately whatever it is doesn't seem to affect K's mood - she is such a happy babe, sleeps well etc.

Thank you x

PeshaCake · 05/11/2007 13:55

MJ - when N was a baby he was ever so sensitive and suffered quite badly from nappy rash. He had one ocassion of it that just got worse and worse and eventually after several weeks and numerous visits to hvs and docs I managed to get a dr who prescribed a cream, I want to say fucidine , anyway whatever it was cleared up his rash within a couple of days where weeks of sudocrem and other shop bought creams had done nothing. I also used to try just cotton wool and water but hv pointed out that thats not always very good at cleaning the skin and if you're leaving a trace of poo on there its still going to aggravate the skin so I switched to baby lotion and cotton wool or water with a splash of baby wash of some sort. Not wipes though! And nappy free time really does help.

Just finished a mystery shop at asda, had lunch, bf the baby and now off to the hv to get him weighed. Just realised he slept through lunch Might have time to feed him before school run He's sleeping alot today actually which isnt like him at all and slept till 5.15 this morning from about 10.30ish last night which he hasnt done in ages. Hope he's ok. Not that I'm complaining!!

SharpMolarBear · 05/11/2007 13:59

i was prescribed fucidin for cuts i used to get at corner of mouth, wonder if it's the same?
glad d slept well last night

octo · 05/11/2007 14:03

mammyjo - its a normal reaction to antibiotics - vaseline is good - stronger chemically creams make make it sting - will take about a week to clear up

Pillock - I am a domestic goddess

sol - could you go to doc and bypass hv. Does sound like it should be checked out properly.

NorthernLurker · 05/11/2007 14:31

Hi - just wanted to come on and sing the praises of my highchair. (Well B's obviously) I want to get a Tripp Trapp - but until we move (no buyer yet) we just don't have the room nor tbh do I have the cash before Christmas. So I have bought v basic one from Toys R Us as a stopgap- and it is brill. Easy to fold and folds reasonably small. Good straps and easy to get her in and out of. I even like the pattern -spotty Best of all it was so cheap (£19.99)that I won't be bothered when it stained permanent orange or broken in a few months Although if I can keep it half way decent I'm going to donate it to church - we could do with one there. (That's we as a church not we as family - we don't spend THAT much time there)

MJ -sorry to hear about the rash. DD1 used to get it badly and I found kamillosan v good.
CD - enjoy your fireworking igniting hordes - you mad woman!
Pesha - I've been mystery shopping this am as well!
SOL - hope you get on ok with the HV and the poo! Normally I would say ignore the hv and go with your instinct - but as your instinct is saying somethings not right then HV is a good port of call.
Errrrrrrrr think that's it for now....

phdlifeneedsanewname · 05/11/2007 14:35

NorthernLurker give yourself a treat and a pat on the back

I have just been trawling the "other" site to see if I can find a foldable highchair for gcse, no idea where to start and it had to be cheap - now I know and there is a Toys R Us just round the corner. Thanks for the tip!!!!

NorthernLurker · 05/11/2007 14:38

Already have a mouthful of toffee thanks. Hope you like it - but at that price it's quite hard to beat really.

phdlifeneedsanewname · 05/11/2007 14:41

yes I can face that without feeling even a twinge in my measly wallet.

gcse has fallen asleep on the floor, all twisted up in playmat that he was wrestling. cutest dang thing you ever saw, if I do say so myself

NorthernLurker · 05/11/2007 14:44

Oh I love it when they do that - they always look life has just got a bit too much and they can't take it anymore! B has been asleep for nearly 2 hours - good going for her and I will have to wake her now to do school run. Byeeeeeeeee!

SharpMolarBear · 05/11/2007 14:52

T has just done the biggest dribble known to baby

Maveta · 05/11/2007 14:57

smb - yay at getting shower problem fixed
tcmummy and oooggs - I'm the 21st.. gotta love xmas babies
mammyjo - about F's little bum, poor thing. No advice from me I'm afraid but hope it heals up soon.
bah - not done catching up and got to run already, darn work getting in the way

oh quick moan - dh switched to part time hours 6 weeks ago - can you believe his work still haven't managed to figure out how much they should pay him??! flippin ridiculous. They've paid him an amount but we have no idea if we will need to pay some back or how much total idiots.
