hello, we're over here

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BadZelda · 03/11/2007 09:21

Guess I'm just tired and grumpy this morning. DD2 woke up twice in night for a feed (as we went to the fireworks and she didn't get her 2 hours of feeding before bedtime)

deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 03/11/2007 09:38

Morning everyone.

I hope that being pg again thread isn't one of us...it's not me for sure. Unless it's baby Jesus and God has given me an immaculate conception!

BZ, that is why dd has toast and fruit for breakfast. Porridge is far too messy and she will end up getting bored feeding it to herself and spread it all over the table!

I also hate the fact that dp thinks that child rearing is my responsibility at all times of the day. Can mums not have a nice day or even a couple of hours off as well? Just because our work isn't paid it doesn't mean it isn't boring and tiring and annoying at times. Hmmmm...I think I need some kid free time!

BadZelda · 03/11/2007 09:45

Yeah Holly...maybe that would make my saturday mornings a bit less stressful - at least DD1 is now trashing playing happily in her room

BadZelda · 03/11/2007 09:46

How's potty training going holly? DD1 is now out of day nappies - but I'm trying to work out how to stop her saving up her poo for the night nappy...it was minging this morning!

deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 03/11/2007 11:07

Toddler poo is the worst! That's good that your dd1 is out of day nappies, mine is getting there. The thing is is that she can go a whole day without weeing, she is very good at saving it up! She tends to poo first thing in the morning before I get a chance to take her nappy off and dealing with that before I've properly woken up is not nice!

Can you put that link up again for that house you bought your dd please? I want to have a look at them. I think my dd would love a little house.

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 03/11/2007 11:23

Just been to a 2nd hand sale Three toys for Xmas = £4.50 (so she will get something from us), half a dozen little toys for now = £1.50, and a pile of clothes including some pretty dresses fror next summer = £8.

And DH survived 1h 45m on his own with DD while she was awake

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 03/11/2007 13:12

And DD has just had her first taste of "solid food" - pureed carrot. Seemed to go down well. She probably had a teaspoon or so, administered a tiny bit at a time, and hardly any of it got spat back out

BadZelda · 03/11/2007 13:56

Glad that went well, Jammy. How many weeks is she now then?

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 03/11/2007 14:00

20.5 weeks. I know it's a touch early based on currant guidelines, but she's still feeding at least every 2 hours and just "seemed" to be wanting more, and at that frequency I couldn't give her any more! Spoke to the HV yesterday who was fine with us trying a little something with her, so we gave it a go. She seemed so happy to have it, and ate so well, that I guess we were right in thinking she was about ready.

BadZelda · 03/11/2007 14:16

Don't feel bad - Matilda's exactly the same age and seems happy and larry to munch on stuff whilst we're dining. I didn't think she'd really eaten anything - but found some broccoli and carrots in her poo...so looks like some went down! (Is this TMI?)

BadZelda · 03/11/2007 14:17

oops 'happy as larry' obviously!

DynamiteDaisy · 03/11/2007 15:00

just trying out my bonfire night name!

DynamiteDaisy · 03/11/2007 15:03

BZ...put a firework up your DHs bottom

I've made it clear to DH that when he is around I'm OFF DUTY. My only purpose is to feed DD, and do fun stuff (not chores) with the DCs. I get breakfast in bed on a Saturday and he usually does the cooking at weekends. Tis only right and fair I think

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 03/11/2007 15:04

Not TMI apart from I now have an image in my head of you actively hunting through the poo to see what's hidden in there (as opposed to just happening to notice)

DynamiteDaisy · 03/11/2007 15:05

ps Jammy......don't feel bad about the weaning, but bear in mind that a little pureed carrot has much less nutritional value than milk, so it won't really make that much difference to her feeding. My foray into weaning didn't make a bit of difference to DD, and her increased feeding/less sleeping righted itself after a couple of weeks.

BadZelda · 03/11/2007 15:08

Have to agree - I haven't given DD the food to try and fill her up (though she does feed at LEAST every 2 hours in the daytime) so much as to just introduce her to different tastes. I had assumed that she'd just been sucking on the carrots / broccoli - so it was a surprise to see traces of them when changing her. Haven't been hunting through poo, honest!

BadZelda · 03/11/2007 15:08

BTW - like the namechange Daisy...maybe you should keep it all year round

DynamiteDaisy · 03/11/2007 15:09

visitors have arrived....off to be sociable

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 03/11/2007 15:09

I'm not expecting her to take any less milk. Just thought it was time to start getting her used to taking solids. Agree that what she's had will make any difference, but got to start somewhere.

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 03/11/2007 15:12

Agree about it just being an introduction to tastes at this stage. I heard (though not from any great authority) that babies are most receptive to new flavours from 4 to 8 months, so it helps to let them try a range of tastes in that period.

deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 03/11/2007 15:15

Thanks for the link Z. I was thinking about getting dd the fairy castle.

Ds hasn't had any food yet. He doesn't seem to need anything except milk atm, so I'm not going to rush. I think I'll start him at the beginning of dec so he can have some xmas dinner!

I just bought the dcs some babylegs. They are sooo cute!

justbeme · 03/11/2007 15:21

Hi all - my nappies arrived and they really are brand new!! 5 Motherease ones and one wrap with animals on - so am v pleased!!

My DP has gone out without me - Im glad BZ said that her baby (matilda??) feeds every 2 hrs - i thought it was only mine.
The thought of driving 11 miles to the shops at 2:30 - knowing that ive got to feed her somewhere, just didnt appeal and true to her form - the minute DP's gone out, ive had crying and more feeding - (she was only fed about 1 hr ago - plus a dirty nappy - 2nd one of the day -
I dont think im gonna go out anywhere till she's 1 !!!
Does anyone else feel like this?

flashbangfoxy · 03/11/2007 15:22

Hello lovely ladies.

I remember weaning for the first time being very exciting. Couldn't wait to get on with it. I'd spend hours peeling, steaming, mouli-ing (wouldn't do to have any fiberous bits you know) organic fruit & veg. I do think it may have paid off, as DS1 is very very good on his fruit and veg (he asks for brocolli .

Obviously no's 2 & 3 didn't get such an introduction to food. I distinctly remember DD1 moving very quickly onto pureed cottage pie and anything we were having.

DD2 is nowhere near ready, but God knows how I'm going to get that into the daily grind.

Now they are scoffing the sweets they begged trick or treated for the other night.

flashbangfoxy · 03/11/2007 15:25

What are babylegs Holly?

JBM, I'd be glad not to go anywhere. Part of the problem is I always aim to get back home before I feed her. Getting my haircut yesterday threw a spanner in the works and put her feed off.

I got her up at 7 to feed her this morning so she's grumpy now.

deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 03/11/2007 15:30

JBM, my dd was like that up until about 6 months. When she started properly on food and was getting 3 proper meals a day she went off breast milk and was only having 3 feeds a day and a couple at night. SO it does get easier!

Foxy, I loved preparing dd's purees and snacks. All organic and sugar and salt free. No jars or tins. Now she eats everything she can get her hands on. All veggies, curries, chilli, loads of fruit etc. I don't think poor ds is going to get any of that treatment. He will just have to eat what he's given!
