Choc - well done on the five hour stint. You must be feeling loads better. Hope last night was jsut as good. My tip for jabs today is to give a dose of calpol before you go. That's what the nurse and doctor said I should have done (was a bit late when they told me)

Berry - good on you for training to be a bf counsellor - fiona is right about lack of support in hospital. If I'd have had some help whilst still in there it maybe would have meant I could have done it.

Last night Megan slept from 11 til 6.30!!!!!! Is this the magical change that people say occurs? She is 9 weeks old. She did squeak at 5 and I gave her a dummy and she went back to sleep until dh got up She just flaked out now so I'm going to catch a few more zzzzzzzzs.

I'm scared about jabs as well DDs are in 2 weeks. I think I will try the calpol before- any other tips will be received well.

Feel off the diet wagon last night with pizza, garlic bread and wine oh but it was good. I have done some exercise in the last few days so I did deserve it.

Filthy day here I'm off to a talk on real nappies that the council run. You can buy 70 pounds worth for 20 pounds apparently. (my pound sign on the laptop doesn't work)

DH and I are all made up.

Morning everyone

DP and I went to register Ellie yesterday at the registry office - she's now an official person!! After that we went to PILs and were only going to stay for a quick cup of tea. We got there at 4pm and ended up having a curry and leaving around 8pm!! I had to feed Ellie there, but thankfully they left me to it in the front room while they congregated in the middle room. We were going to have a look at dishwashers in Currys afterwards for my birthday but it was a bit too late for that by the time we left. Before you all say it, yes i KNOW having a dishwasher for your 40th birthday is extremely sad but i'm desperate for one and if i ask for one for my birthday, DP would be very cruel to turn me down!!

By the time we got home after a short trip to Asda (had to avoid Clubgate tho coz DP was with me) it was gone 9pm so Ellie's so-called routine was way out the window. She took hours to settle last night because she was still wide awake and needed time to wind down. Eventually i think she went off at about 1am. She then woke up at 4.45 for a feed and then 7.45 but i just brought her into the bed with me and we both dozed til 10am! I gave her my first laying down feed this morning too! It was lovely and very cozy. Think i'll try it on the sofa later!

Pixie - well done you for cleaning your oven!! It's one of those love to hate jobs isn't it. In my sleep deprived state the other week, i went to Homebase with the intention of buying just one can of oven cleaning stuff and ended up coming out with four cans of the different brands!! I have no idea why! The woman at the checkout must have thought i was either an obsessional cleaner or had an extremely gross oven!!

Silk - how's Megan today after her jabs?? Do you get called to the doctors or do you have to make your own appointments for DCs to have their jabs? I'll ask the GP next week when Ellie has her check up i think. Great news re her heart!! What a relief! Cant believe you're going back to work in February! It seems so soon!! I'm very very at Megan's 11-6.30 stint tho. That's just showing off!!

Jarm - Congrats on the job!!! You should never say "only" a care assistant either. Carers and nurses etc are worth their weight in gold IMO.

Sparkly - good luck with the eye test today.

Berry - lol @ all your typos! Hope Coby is feeling better after his jabs too. I'm not looking forward to putting Ellie through them! Well done to you for being a BF counsellor in training! Fantastic! The more help there is out there, the better.

Choc - Ellie is fine thanx. The Infacol is working like a dream, along with the odd dose of Gripe Water for when she gets wind in the late evening. Such a change to what she was like 2-3 weeks ago! Well done on the five hour stint! Totally makes you feel fresh and normal again doesn't it!

Fiona - i think after the exercise classes you went to, you were truly deserving the pizza and wine! DP and I are going on a healthier eating thing from next week. So far every night this week we've had wine AND a huge glass of Baileys - and there's me wondering why i'm putting ON weight, rather than losing it! So from next week there'll be no week-day boozing and no more (or at least no much) junk food either.

£70 worth of nappies for £20?? Sounds like a bargain!! I'd go and buy that if my council did it! I might give them a ring and ask if they do anything like that.

So pleased you and DH have made it up now.

I was going to go shopping today to our local shopping centre because i have vouchers etc to spend and the shopping centre also has breastfeeding rooms so it would have been my first real adventure out of the house for more than 3 hours, but the weather is so pants, i dont think i'm going to bother. Having said that, i do have itchy feet a little so i think i might be on the verge of changing my mind.....

Congrats on the job Jarm, it's nice to have something to focus on other than babies. I go back to work in April and although I'll miss William, it'll help keep me sane, and I know he'll get on as well at nursery as my DD.

Silk - great news about Megan's heart. I know what you mean about the jabs. William has his first lot next week and I'm not looking forward to them. Hopefully my friend is going to look after DD while we go as I don't want DD to be freaked out, I know it will really upset her to see William crying. I think it's the look that they give you which is one of utter betrayal - how could their lovely mummy let someone stick needles in them!

Berry - am at your BF course, I really want to do one, but the next one here isn't until June - I'll be back at work them, but hopefully I can fit it in.

RG - DD used to like lying down feeds, but William isn't so keen. I love them, so cosy and cuddly.

Choc - I keep chocolate by my bed for when William has nightfeeds and I get hungry - I always get hungry when BF . It's organic though, so it must be healthy !

Had a flyer through my door today from ASDA, they've a fortnight of special deals on baby stuff from next Monday - Tommee Tippee breastpump for a tenner, etc. Worth checking out if you've got one locally.

RGPargy · 11/01/2008 14:12

Jet - she seemed to really like the laying down feed!

We have an Asda just up the road, but unfortunately it literally only sells food - no clothes, homeware stuff or anything! I might have to venture to the one further away, although i've heard that the Tommee Tippee pump isn't all that great because the bit where your nipple goes into isn't big enough or summat. I have no idea as i've not used one, but i'm going on reviews i read on the net.

hi all

RG, well done on feeding lying down - I have yet to try it!

Silk, how's Megan today?

The co-sleeper has arrived - we're not going to use it tonight though as Rebecca had her injections today and don't want to start bed changing today. I am sorry to report the five hours were a one-off - she didnt sleep longer than 1 1/2 hours at a stretch last night, so back to normal - but at least it happened and so could happen again!

Today Rebecca had her injections and she was fine. She cried as they happened but then she was straight away her usual nosy self. The doctor was very amused as Rebecca kept butting in and making her talking noises as the doctor was talking to me. The doctor was lovely, as was the nurse; the HV - not mine, another one - was as gormless as ever. She asked how lo slept and when I said badly, she said if we werent doing controlled crying then we were asking for trouble. She also said at 8 weeks a baby should sleep through the night and if not then we need to change something... I think next time when she asks, 'does she sleep?' I shall say 'oh yes, all night long' and leave...

She's a bit more unsettled this evening - Rebecca not the HV!! - so we shall see how tonight goes. Wish us luck!

And have a good Friday night everyone.

Hugs everyone!

Choc - yr hv sounds like a pillock. How many 8 week old babies sleep through the night???? Very bleeding few I bet.

Jet - you are spot on about the betrayed look. I felt awful.

Rg - doctors called us automatically, appointment was booked weeks in advance

Megan has been a bit grizzly today. She is normally very laid back and happy, rarely cries. Also has been sleepier (maybe why last night was such a good night)

DH hasn't come home from work yet and he said he was leaving early at 4pm (should have been home at 5.30 at the latest). I've spent an hour or so being angry but now am starting to worry as the weather is so bad that maybe he has had an accident

I seem to have turned into my mother - she has always been paranoid

SGK - so sorry about the cat

Update re dh - no longer angry am definitely very concerned. Although where I am it is raining very hard and has been all day - apparently there is very heavy snowfall in the east of gloucestershire which is the way dh comes home. There was no mention of it on the aa roadwatch site but local bbc radio and the council website say the situation is very bad. Dh hasn't phoned, his mobile is switched off. Having said that when Glos was hit by torrential flooding in the summer I got stuck on the flooded motorway for 6 hours (was pg and desperate for a wee) and the phone network didn't work cos so many people were trying to use it.

DH has to come down a very steep and dangerous hill which the website says is covered in snow and ice. Mentioned lots of abandoned cars and lorries!!! Hope he gets home soon

Silk - any sign of DH yet? Hope he's ok! I'm sure he's just not phoned because of network blockage. Please let us know when you hear from him!

have spoken to the police. they say that snow fell suddenly late afternoon and the road (major bloody A road) is totally impassable. hundreds if not thousands of people trapped in their cars

have snow ploughs up there but say they have problems where people have abandoned cars to try and walk home!!!!! (hope dh wouldn't be that stupid) they need to move those before they can get people moving. trying to remember what dh is wearing. think he has his new jumper from xmas which is warm and a fleece but no coat. he's going to be very cold, very hungry, very tired and probably very pissed off when he does get home.

the police did say no major accidents though and no one hurt but lots of cars sliding into each other.

i'll let you know when he makes it home

evening all!

silk- hope dh gets in touch soon!

Chocolate- hope jabs went well today. They're horrid but he got over it pretty quickly, he was a little flushed for the rest of the day and a little grumpy. He's back to his chatty self today.

sgk- so sorry about your cat, but very good news about Callum!

rg- i'm also a fan of feeding laying down, very peaceful. I've got the Tommee Tippee pump and it works well for me, its pretty easy to use and clean. But i don't have very big nipples!!

fiona-glad to hear you and dh have made up!

I left Coby with MIL for 4 hours today whilst i went to the bank and got a much needed trim. It wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. They both had a great time and i got a little me time, so fun was had by all.

Third night of Megan sleeping through and not needing a night feed. I'm starting to hope that this is a new pattern. She was a bit unsettled. I needed to give her a dummy at 4, 5 and 6. If she was in her own room I definitely wouldn't have woken up as she wasn't crying or awake. She then woke properly at 6.45am

She's currently gurgling away on her playmat. I am waiting for her to tire out so I can pop her back in her cot and clamber back into bed next to a slumbering dh. After last night's escapades we stayed up chatting and drinking a bottle of wine until 2.45am (madness I know) and I could do with a few more hours.

Hope you guys had a decent night's sleep

silk- thank goodness he got home safely.

I lived in Leeds about 15 years ago and we had horrendous snow. I left Wethedrby (where I worked) and it took me 4 hours to complete a 45 minute journey- total gridlock all over the city. I so remmeebr the fear particularly as I was a woman travelling alone

Afternoon all!
Tis a glorious day here blue sky and sunny. We are house hunting today seen one already but not interested in it and have another 3 to see this afternoon. I will be so sad to leave this house as it's our first home but lots of good bargins to be had around at the moment.

Silk- so glad your DH made it home he must have been glad to see you last night after his long wait in the snow.

Which one of you ladies follows Gina Fords routine? I following it and loving it DD is reallt happy and settled and having much better sleep during the day. I have a question though. I put DD to bed at 6.30-7pm and she goes straight to sleep then I wake her at 10pm for a feed and she normally wakes at 3ish for another. I then need to wake her at 7 for morning feed she is always sleeping soundly (and so am I) and i'm tempted to let her sleep until she wakes up herself. Will I mess up the daytime naps if I let her sleep in? I'm worried it will have a knock on effect if I let her sleep longer. I guess then idea is she gets used to sleeping between 7 and 7. It will certainly help when I go back to work. Its also better for me (although a bit painful) as I get up at 8.30-9 for brekkie and shower when she is back sleeping. Before I started this routine I sometimes didn't have time for either. I would just sleep in till she woke up and then we would laze around watching GMTV. She does seem happier so don't want to change but I do feel cruel waking her up.
