Sparkley- Dd2 has yellow poo so in that respect I'm lucky i spose. She's alert and is now holding her head and is a nosy little dot. But she is tiny- especially in comparison with same age babies.

Silk- the term 'failure to thrive' has devastated me tbh. I spoke to my friend about it yesterday and she said that even in special care they would never use those words in front of a parent- if they had to write it down it was FTT.

I also mentioned it to a GP friend of mine and she was absolutely disgusted that the HV had been so insensitive.

SGK- if you hae time try to write it all down- it's very cathartic and also reminds you of the struggle and how much you've been through.

I'm also going to submit it to the ABM at a later date- to encourage other mothers. I think if you have time that your experience would be encouraging for other mothers as well

Easywriter · 08/01/2008 10:14

Fiona/RG- I have the same wobbly belly problem but as I didn't get any strecth marks or have nearly as woobly a belly as last time I got complacent. (There is no trick, last time I had twins and it gives you an idea of how huge I was if none of my old strecth marks were 'reactivated'). I've sat on my smug bum though and completely overindulged at christmas. Now I've got additional fat on top of my wobbly belly . I'm off to SW this week .

Choudru - Result on Sara's sleeping! It's just a shame that you spend all night worrying that they've randomly decided to sleep through, if only they could speak, just a little bit to let you know that's what they fancy doing!
As far as bf Sara seems to fed much like Marnie. I do worry but she is gaining weight so I figure it's just another 'normal' feeding pattern but that it's a bit less usual. IS there a BF counsellor you could talk to about it?

Berry - Coby is gorgeous! You're right its tricky getting time to do anything. I try and achieve just one thing everyday and I struggle to do even that most days. As for ironing, it's of the devil IMO, I rather clean the loo 50 times that spend half an hour ironing.

LizzieO - Lovely pictures! Don't Ollie and his big brother look alike. Beautiful boys.

Just realised I have no photos of Marnie up. Must change that!

Easywriter · 08/01/2008 10:20

X posts.

One of the HV's I saw (there were several at a new parents meeting when I had dd's) has put me off HV's for life!
Marnie was weighed by HV on 24th Dec and I plan to see the HV as little as possible.

I know it's v. depend on the particular health professional but I am constantly horrified at how unprofessional some of them are.

Trust your insticnts Pixie and SGK, sure they know what 'most' babies do but you know what YOUR baby does. They really shouldn't be so insensitive.

Pixiefish · 08/01/2008 10:43

Easy- I knew that dd2 wasn't gaining weight, her nappies were dry and her poos were tiny and were more like wet farts. I just hated the words Failure to thrive- that made me feel sick.

I'm lucky in that I have a fantastic breastfeeing consultant who is also a HV and is superb.

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 10:44

Failure to thrive??? What a horrendous phrase! That must really make you feel bad.

Silk - lol @ diet intentions. I'm trying to do the same now actually, but i've found myself in a vicious circle. I bought some Club biscuits the other day and showed DP, who said he would have one later. Anyway, they were too nice to have "later" so i ended up (over a couple of days) munching my way through the lot. Then i felt guilty for doing so, so i had to buy more so that DP wouldn't find out i'd been such a pig. I then had to eat a couple from the pack to make it look like i'd not scoffed the lot and, well, it's been a disaster after that!!

Fiona - Waiting for an hour with a baby is horrendous. I know sometimes it cant be helped but it's really frustrating trying to pacify a restless baby isn't it. As for BF past 6 months, just ignore those who say there's no benefit. Just carry on as you are - you go girl!

Clothes sizes - Ellie's babygros have been getting snug lately (0-3) and her big toes are curled at the end so i thought i would try her in a 3-6 month one today - it's not that big, considering!!!

Didn't have tooooo bad a night really. Ellie wouldn't settle from 11pm til 1am - just kept spitting her dummy out and grumbling about it from her basket. I've discovered that the secret to getting her to sleep longer is to take her dummy out when she's just gone to sleep so that her sucking on it and it falling out doesn't wake her up. It works, so that's the main thing. It's just making sure you get the right opportunity to remove it. If she's dead cert on having it however, then we're buggered til she feels sleepy enough lol. Gave her a feed at 1.00 and she slept til just before 5.00 and then was up again at 6.30 and 8.15. The good thing is we had NO COLIC/WIND last night!!! I think the Infacol is actually working because i've been using it by the book religiously before every single feed and it seems to be doing the trick. Ellie seems to be a bit smilier too, which of course is wonderful!

Do all your babies babble to themselves yet? Just wondered coz Ellie is still fairly quiet and only very occassionally will make one noise or summat. She is only 5 weeks (almost) but she seems quite advanced for her age, compared to those Babycentre emails anyway! I think she has completely lost her newborn look now and is looking so much like a baby girl as opposed to a newborn baby!

It's raining here today. Think i'll have to snuggle up on the sofa and snooze alot to keep warm.

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 10:53

Easy - i also didn't fill in my previous pg/weight gain stretch marks and i'm pretty happy about that tbh as i didn't want to get horrendously bigger than i already am!

sparklygothkat · 08/01/2008 11:33

yes its a terrible phase and makes you feel completely crap. I will write it all down, i think most of it is on MN. I was thinking about writing a blog, as we are far from being out the woods yet.

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 08/01/2008 11:41

Thing is they didn't just say FTT to me it was 'severve FFT' He was having wet nappies, but his poos were tiny and green, (now they are huge and green ) so I couldn't work out WHY he wasn't gaining weight..

Afternoon all!

Well Dh managed to get Daniel to sleep in the car last night - took 40mins but it worked! He then slept til 1am and woke again at 5 and 7am.

He is a lot more content today, is sleeping at the moment, and has been since about 11am, so expecting him to wake any minute!

Am going to try and grab an hours kip this afternoon, as DH is going to pick my dad up from work and then go and buy a new washing machine! Dad gets staff discount at Bennets (not sure how as dad works in a school lol) so thats cool! Ours sounds like a bloomin tornado on the final spin - makes the house shake!

Am off to MIL's this weekend, although DH keeps saying he will take all 3 kids on his own and I can have a weekend to myself, but Im not sure Im ready for DH to have that responsibility - or more like Ill miss them all like crazy and be grumpy all weekend!

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 15:30

DJarm - dont think i could have a weekend without the kids either! Even when i was pg and just had DS to worry about, when we'd go away for the weekend, i would be constantly worrying about him!

Ellie seems to have developed a few little red pimples on either side of her face. I wonder if it's something to do with my perfume? I have been spraying it on the insides of my forearms because of BF. Anyone else had this?

Pixiefish · 08/01/2008 15:37

just caught dd1 trying to feed dd2 with tuc biscuits- i'd popped to the loo!!!!!! argh

fiona76 · 08/01/2008 16:39

Pixie- Are they dog biscuits??

RG- Its probably just baby acne my DD has it too I think it lasts a few weeks then disappears.

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 16:47

Pixie - i know Tuc biscuits are lush but at DD1!!!

Fiona - i thought it might be that but was curious as to why it's suddenly come up, i.e. since last night, and why it was just on the side of her face by her sideburns lol.

LizzieO · 08/01/2008 17:56

Hello all

Not a bad night last night, Ollie went down at 8.30 tho' didn't really settle till 9.15ish, then grizzled again around 10.00ish so i fed him, he was up a couple of times during night for feeds tho' only short ones, d'ya know i can't actually remeber the times he awoke now, i think tiredness has taken over [confused emoticon]

Anyway busy day for me today, dropped DS off at Nursery this am, then off to Ollies 8 week check at docs, then dropped in at NTC coffee morning thing, there were only 5 of us but nice to meet new mums and chat. Then had friend and son and baby girl over this pm for play session. Feeling a lot better for it, yesterday i just stayed in all day (apart from pciking up DS from nursery) and felt pretty miserable by the eve.

Now i have started to even contemplate dieting its is immediately making me want to stuff my face with chocs and biccies [fatgirl emoticon]

Fiona - thats crap waiting an hour, i think i would have lost patience well before then, i'm going to sound ignorant here, but is it hard to fall preggers when breatfeeding ? i really need to start thinking about contraception, durex doesn't do it for me, i don't want to go on pill (haven't been on it for years) the coil makes me shudder, i already have painful periods so don't want them made worse. DH has said he would get vasectomy but i don't really want him to have to go thu that. I was even considering steralisation but obviously need to look into that

Easy - know what you mean about babies being able to tell you things, ie, "right i'm going to have a 3 hour snooze between 2.00 and 5.00 now mum", or "don't bother planning to do anything today cos i'm not gonna kip more than an hour at a time"

RG - LOL about Club-Gate, thats the kinda thing i would do, espesh your then having to eat two more from new packet to cover ya tracks hee hee. Are the pimples milk spots perhaps, Ollies have been coming and going since birth

DJarm - know exactly wot ya mean, altho' the thought of the weekend without kids wld be tempting you wld miss them and the mayhem like crazy !

Ollie constantly wriggling around to top of cot, uncovering himself and waking up, we have been putting him to sleep on tummy, (i know advice is to put them to sleep on back but he just would not settle at all on his back, i think it was causing him probs with digestion and wind, when my DH was little advice then was to put babies to sleep on tummy, so he can now only sleep on his tummy) Anyway Ollie only really comfy on tummy and as he has really strong neck and can lift his head up and about and clear from mattress we have gone with it. consequently he commando crawls to top of the cot and uncovers himself. Considering Gro-bag anyone else him use them ?

hope you all have good eves

Lxxxx

silkcushion · 08/01/2008 18:40

Lizzie my dr said there is a 5 yr coil that pretty much stops yr periods as opposed to making them worse. Not sure what it's called but maybe it could be an option.

Rg - club biscuits lol. That's exactly the sort of thing I do. except I'd probably scoff them all throughout a day. Now I want a club biscuit!!!!!

Megan was weighed today and she is 11lb 14oz
no wonder she looks huge all of a sudden. We have to take her to the hospital tomorrow afternoon for a follow up visit. If you lot remember (prob not) the mw kept hearing funny heartbeats before she was born and I kept getting sent in for monitoring. When she was born they ehard it again and did an ecg. She has an extra beat apparently no one seems too concerned though so I'm hoping it will be straightforward.

fiona76 · 08/01/2008 18:41

I have just joined weight watches on line . I feel like I have to do something about the way I am feeling about my weight.

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 19:32

Evening all

Clubgate - well i've got one left of the second packet i bought so i might as well have it and tell DP that it was tuff chuff and he was too slow!!

Lizzie - I'm thinking about getting Ellie a grobag when she's a little older. She doesn't do wriggling aroung at the moment although i swear it wont be long til she tries to turn over!

Silk - They were orange clubs too. Yummy!! at 11lb 14oz Megan!!! Wow!! Good luck at the hospital tomorrow afternoon.

Fiona - Drastic action, eh? Oh well if you need to do it then go for it.

Pixiefish · 08/01/2008 20:08

Rg- you can get grobag's for them from when they're baout 7lb

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 20:18

Pixie - yeah I know, but as she normally stays put (and so do her covers) i thought i might as well wait for a bit.

BBBBRRRRR!!!! It's freezing!! This house is so bloody cold!

jetgirl · 08/01/2008 20:33

RG - lol at clubgate , that is just the kind of thing I would do! William had his hearing test today, all was well.

Pixie - DD offered William some apple today, though kept her chocolate buttons very close!

fiona - at your having to wait. My doctor is always excellent, extremely efficient and I've never had to wait for her, her colleagues on the other hand are rubbish. I remember having to wait an hour to see a doctor when DD was just a few weeks old, it's ridiculous.

DD decided to BF her baby doll today. She was trying to life up her top while holding the doll so I asked her what she was doing. 'She wants some milk, mummy, from my booby!' So we sat and BF together while watching the Tweenies

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 20:42

jetgirl - awww bless your DD!!! How sweet!

Pixiefish · 08/01/2008 21:15

Jetgirl- dd does thqat with her panda or her Tad frog- bless ehr

ChocolateHobnob · 08/01/2008 21:43

Hi all

Pixie, crap healthcare expression and I can imagine how awful you felt.... But you've given DD so much - be proud! And you, Sparkly...

Fiona, at your GP. Mine was 10 mins late which is okay... got her 8 week check on Friday, will see how late that is.

RG, I LOVE Orange Clubs!!!

Rebecca is pooing for Britain! Yesterday she even pooed in the bath (gross). She's okay though- and she had loads of sleep today so fingers crossed it helps tonight. DH has just taken over Operation Put Rebecca to Sleep, which began at 7 30 (it's a slow process...).

Do you all have your los sleeping in your room still, in their baskets? what do you plan to do when they get too big for the baskets?

Hugs to all!

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 22:31

Hi choc

With regard to poo - Ellie still doesn't poo every day. She normally goes every 4-5 days between poos, which i'm not totally sure is normal especially as she strains in between and seems to be in a bit of pain, but only lets out a fart. She's got her 6 week check next week so i am going to mention it to the GP and see what he says about it. It's not like she's constipated because her poos are always liquid. Who knows, we shall see.

Choc - poo in the bath - yuk!!!!!

As for sleeping arrangements, Ellie is still in our room in her basket which seems to be getting smaller by the day! When she's grown out of it tho we'll have no choice but to put her in her own room next door. We'll have to keep the door shut too because of the two cats (they'll try and snuggle up to her in her cot). We cant put the cot in our room because it's a cot bed and is huge! Far too big to fit in with us unfortunately.

Not sure i'm going to carry on with a specific bedtime routine atm. She seems to settle better and quicker if she falls asleep downstairs with us and then we take her upstairs when we go up (she's normally asleep). She was due for a feed at 9.30 but is still happily sleeping away so i think i'll leave her for now in the hope that she'll wake up really hungry, have a good feed and go down for a good 4 hours or so. Wouldn't that be lovely!!

Pixiefish · 08/01/2008 22:48

Chocolate- dd is in bed with me with the cot next to us to stop her falling out- I expect she'll stay in with us until she stops feeding int he night and then I'll put her in with dd1 although if she's anything like dd1 she'll still be in bed with us when she's 4 lol. dd1 has only recently moved into her own bed and she's 4 at the end of january
