Hello all

hope you've all had a good sunday, i have just cooked and devoured roasty.

Sorry to hear some of you have had crappy nights, Ollie went down at 9.00ish but was up at 1.00ish and then 3.00ish and then 5.00ish when i then had to change his suit as he had weed thru it, and he screamed the house down.....nice on a Sunday morning

choudru - very jealous of Sara, but shes always been a good sleeper, and as long as hes putting on weight and has lots of wet and dirty nappies i think shes doing brilliantly - Ollie seems to only feed for short bursts, but he's putting on weight nicely so obviouly getting what he needs

RG - sorry you had a s**t night, mind you if Ellie then slept from 3.00 till 8.00ish that good isn't it ? i don;t always wind Ollie, in fact at night i lay him on his side on my L shaped pillow and he feeds for a little time and then i unlatch him and he crashes out still lying on the pillow and i just lay him back in cot, often when i was putting him up on my shoulder and winding him he would get really fussy but now he drops back off again, is it always necessary to wind babies ?

Hi Berrybliss and Loopy and everyone else, have been looking thru your baby pics and they all look scrumptious, Ollie really starting to chuckle now, oooh they're gorgeous aren;t they

RGPargy · 06/01/2008 23:14

Berry - awwww lovely pictures!!

Lizzie - 1, 3 and 5 is quite good really isn't it? Ellie didn't sleep from 3 til 8, she slept from 3 til 6 and then came up for a feed and went down again from about 6.30ish til 8. Sorry, i probably had a knackered brain when i tried to explain earlier! I think you are supposed to wind babies because they dont move around very much so it just sits in their little tummies and gives them jip. Some babies suffer with it more than others. If Ollie is bothered with wind at all then i dont suppose it would do any harm NOT to wind him!

Haven't attempted the night time routine tonight. Ellie's been down here with us and she's not been too bad really. Off to bed now tho so will see how we get on tonight!

N'night everyone. Fairy dust sleepy sprinkles going out to all our little babies!

xxx

im knackered!

Daniel was good last night really, but the sleep deprivation is catching up on me!

The girls have been such a nightmare these past few days, sleep wise and behaviour wise..... anyone out there with less than 3 kids, DONT have anymore!

I think Daniel has a cold, he is always chilly, sicking up mucousy type stuff, and just generally not himself.... hopefully it wont last too long.

Anyone elses's babies getting big??? Daniel is almost 6 weeks, but is filling his 0-3mnth stuff length ways. He is still a skinny boy but omg, so so long! I swear he has doubled in length since he was born! (Probably not but it seems like it!)

HV is coming on Thursday when he will be 6 weeks exactly, she will weigh him etc then so it will be interesting to see how much he weighs - last time he was weighed was 21st Dec and he was 9lbs, so that would be nearly 3 weeks.... im placing bets on him being roughly 12lbs!

fiona76 · 07/01/2008 10:05

Morning!!

Jarm- Anabel is also filling up her 0-3 month stuff. She was only 8lbs 2o at 4 weeks and she is now nearly 7 weeks . She put on quite a bit since last weigh in but she's not that heavy. She is really long though. She was only 5lbs 15o at birth but 55 cm long. She not being weighed again until 9 weeks so it will be interesting to see how she s going.

Sparkly- I had a rough night as well. DD wouldn't settle and then she woke about 4 times. She has pooed through 2 outfits already today. I think she didn't appreciate the casserole we made on the weekend it was filled with veg, beef, onions and cooked in red wine and tomatoes. I don't think her system can deal with it very well.

Berry- Ironing- whats that????

RG- DD doesn't sick up either. She's not that good at bringing up wind but itonly bothers her sometimes(like last night).

DH has just got home early from work so I'll go and make him a bacon butty like a good wifey

LizzieO · 07/01/2008 10:13

Hi girls

Just dropped DS off at Nursery, warned them about potty training and they were v laid back about it, said they had spare pants etc for accidents too. My worry is that DS will be too shy to tell them when he needs a wee, but will see how he gets on

Ollie having a nap just now, was good last night went from 4.00pm to 07.30pm (giving us interrrupted time to eat Sunday dinner , then went from 9.30pm waking for feeeds at 1.00 and then 5.00

SGK - sorry to hear about your rubbish night with Callum, hope you can get some rest today, its v stressful and upsetting when they just cry and cannot be settled

JARM - Ollie too is very long, apparently his weight is below average but his length is above average, i think he is going to a long and lean boy. I need to buy some more sleepsuits in the 3-6month age

hope you all have good days

Pixiefish · 07/01/2008 12:05

just to say i'm still here

sarahloumadam · 07/01/2008 15:05

Adam is long and wide! He weighed 10lbs 11 at 4.5 weeks, gets weighed again tomorrow so god knows what he weighs now - a stone?! He is filling his 0-3 suits v.nicely.

sparklygothkat · 07/01/2008 17:48

Callum is still in newborn, but this is his 5th size of clothes, started in 3lb, then 4lb, then 5lb then 7.5lb and now upto 10lb

OP posts:
DanJARMouse · 07/01/2008 18:30

SGK - have you got enough 0-3 boys stuff? Ive got some spare if you want me to sort it out?

sparklygothkat · 07/01/2008 18:32

silkcushion · 07/01/2008 18:57

Hello Pixie - I saw you there.

Megan is HUGE! She was only 7lb 9 when she was born so fairly average really. Since then she's gained weight steadily - 10lb 4 week before xmas. She went from newborn into 0-3 mths at 5/6 weeks. She is 9 weeks this wed and is now on to 3-6 mths. I am - she'll cost us a flippin fortune in clothes at this rate.

She is still not v well but Doctor said her chest was clear this morning when I took her. I didn't want to be a paranoid mummy but she had really started coughing and wheezing. He did, however, say she has eczema on her face and arms/legs . She has hydracortisone cream now. The hv had said it was just dry skin and not to worry!

Well day 3 of the post baby diet and I have so far managed not to eat a load of shite . I feel like someone has poured me into my jeans and I'm spilling over the top - it's disgusting!!!!!

Hope our littlies sleep well tonight.

jetgirl · 07/01/2008 19:27

Thanks for kind words about our dog. Saw my mum yesterday, it was the first time she'd ever admitted she's not coping with something, which made me sadder than the death of the dog We took DD and William round, and their company seemed to cheer her up a bit.

We have booked our first family break, and are going to Brighton for 3 nights in Feb. I love Brighton, and am really looking forward to it, my little sis lives there too so it will be good to see her.

RG - have you tried infacol? We found it quite effective when DD had her first few bottles of EBM.

berry - I'm with you on the constant washing, but not the ironing, since William was born the only thing I've ironed was a pair of trousers I wore for lunch out. Please don't tell me you're ironing baby clothes - life is too short!

DanJARMouse · 07/01/2008 20:10

Im not coping at all well today. Not sure what the hell is going on with Daniel but he has only has 2 30min naps all day, he wont settle no matter what we try. DH has just taken him out for a drive to try and send him into a deep sleep. Im knackered, I feel REALLY ill, have had dodgy tummy and felt a little sick - so hope it isnt this novovirus thats going around, i honestly dont think I could cope.

DD1 has been horrendous today too, the only peace we had was the 2.5hrs she was at nursery, throwing tantrums left right and centre for no reason, the worst one was really scary, it was as if she had no control over her body or anything.

Really hope Daniel sleeps tonight so I can rest up, and fingers crossed all your little darlings sleep too!

RGPargy · 07/01/2008 20:27

Hi everyone!

Lizzie - your pics are fabulous!! Loving the specs pic. Made me and DP chuckle.

Sparkly - sorry you had a pants night. Hope tonight is better for you.

DJarm - I hear ya on the sleep depravation front! I'm knackered too! All this waking up every few hours just really takes it out on the body and mind doesn't it.

Ellie is getting mahoosive it seems! She's been in her 0-3 month stuff for a while now. All her newborn stuff is too short for her and make her toes curl up lol. Now her 0-3 stuff is getting a bit snug so i'll have to go out and buy a batch of clothes for her soon. She's only got 2 babygrows in that size at the moment! She looks so chunky now and she's not even 5 weeks yet.

Fiona - you're lucky that DD doesn't suffer with her wind much.

Pixie - Hello!

Sparkly - Bless Callum still being in newborn. I bet he's still looking so tiny!

Silk - diets - ugh. Not ready for those yet, although i am trying to eat more home made stuff to eliminate the crap from processed foods. It's a start i spose! Hope DD gets better soon, poor little mite.

Jet - awww your poor mum. Brighton should be fab! Enjoy! Infacol - we were trying it, but i must confess we weren't doing it correctly. We would always forget to give it to her before her feed and then when she got hysterical with pain we would give her some and it would seem to calm her down a bit. However from last night we have been religiously giving it to her before her feeds so let's hope it's going to be effective. Only time will tell i guess as it takes a couple of days to build up in their system doesn't it?

Ellie had her hearing test today and thankfully all is ok (i knew it would be). Got talking to this woman in the waiting room who had a two week old baby with her who was absolutely TINY!! I was convinced she was a premie til she told me that she was full term and was 6lb 6oz at birth. She looked so small in comparison to Ellie, who looked like a real bruiser next to the little one.

Hope you all have peaceful nights! x

RGPargy · 07/01/2008 20:29

Oh DJarm, sounds like you've been through the wars today.

Tomorrow is another day and i hope it's a little brighter for you. Get well soon sweet.

sparklygothkat · 07/01/2008 21:51

yes still tiny He was 8lb 15oz on friday.

Pixiefish · 07/01/2008 22:26

that's what dd2 was as well sparkley. She is in 0-3months and is luckily putting on weight for the last 3 weeks.

I've written a sort of diary about the whole experience- cathartic- tbh it's had quite an effect on me and if it wasn't for my bfing counsellor i think i'd have been bullied by everyone else (apart for dh) to jack it in and stop bfing.

Hearing the HV call dd2 a 'failure to thrive' baby was horrendous and had me in tears for ages. I was also really worried that she had some serious horrible disease- it all goes through your mind.

We've hasd to see various HCP's twice/three times a week and i feel that we've rushed from one weigh in to another for all her little life. i really feelthat i've missed the first 9 weeks in appts and weigh ins and worry- she's been weighed twice a week for thwe l;ast 7 weeks!!!

sparklygothkat · 07/01/2008 23:14

Pixie, I can fully relate to you and everything you put. Callum is nearly 16 weeks old and was classed as 'a severe failure to thrive' baby. He only started gaining weight 3 weeks ago when we started giving him the high engery formula twice a day. He is still BF but I could have easily given up if I wasn't so bloodly minded.
At one point I thought he had a heart condition or CF, even now I wonder if we are masking a problem with the HE formula. He was weighted twice a week up till xmas week, but I get the feeling that the SCBU will be coming back soon...

OP posts:
Pixiefish · 07/01/2008 23:26

sparkley- I convinced myself she had cf at one point as well.
The worst of it for me was finding out that I wasn't producing enough milk fo her. Still not got a hell of a lot hence the formula but she's on 150ml over 2 feeds so 75ml twice a day. i think that jut gives her the extra strength she needs to get her milk from me

sparklygothkat · 07/01/2008 23:35

Callum is on between 100-150ml a day (depends on him) over 2 bottles. He still has green stools, and has had a cold for weeks, but the GP is happy with him. He has the bottle after a BF in the morning and one at night. He is slowly creeping back up the chart. He started on the 50th percentile, dropped off the chart and is now on the 0.2th.

I am actually in shock!! He is actually upstairs in his moses basket and is asleep before midnight!!

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 07/01/2008 23:39

The thing is I don't have a problem with my supply, I was going mad knowing I had enough milk but he wasn't gaining weight. I want to stop the formula now and see if it makes a difference but TBH I am scared that he will lose weight again and then I will know that either my milk supply is crap or there is something wrong with him IYKWIM.

OP posts:
silkcushion · 08/01/2008 07:38

Pixie and SGK - at the phrase "failure to thrive" what a terrible way to describe yr babies and make you feel inadequate. Sometimes I wonder at the lack of compassion demonstrated by some HCP.

RG - I've clearly overstated my diet intentions. Isn't a real diet yet just an attempt to eat 5 a day fruit/veg and stop snacking on any crap I can get my hands on. HAd started living on digestive biscuits as they were easy to eat whilst dealing with lo.

Jarm - hope to day is better for you

fiona76 · 08/01/2008 08:53

I went for my 6 week check up yesterday. The first crap thing that happened is they made me wait nearly an hour- They know I have a 6 week old baby -I think thats really bad.
Then when I was finally seen the female doc asked me about contraception so I told her I wanted the mini pill for a few months becasue we want to try for another baby in April or May. I asked her what I could do to increase chances of conception when I was exclusively breast feeding. She said oh your baby will nearly be 6 months so you could just stop BF. I said I don't want to stop BF at 6 months and was wondering if she had any advice on conception and BF. She said there is no benefit to BF after 6 months and it just makes you tired. I was a bit pissed off TBH. That is her opinion and she made me feel like BF after 6 months is done only for the benefit of the mother.

I don't appreciate when HCP put their own opinions on to you. I just want medical advice. I also had minor surgery when DD was 3 weeks old and the doc told me if I got an infection I would have to give up BF which is rubbish- at worst I would have had to express during infection and then carry on after. I do not have any problem with FF but I think HCP should respect what mums are trying to do and not say thoughtless things to new mums.

On a lighter note at the 7am feed this morning as DD and I were snuggled up on our bed feeding she managed to poo through all her clothes and on to our sheets and a bit on the duvet cover so I had to completely strip the bed and now have 3 loads of washing to do. Oh the joys of motherhood!!
