Really pleased you got a decent night RGP - amazing what a dummy can do!

We had a good night too. Daniel slept from about 7.15pm til 12.30am fed, and then slept til 4am, fed again and slept til 8am!

ok, so we were up "twice" but cant complain too much because he had a good chunk of sleep in the evening and didnt have his usual "witching hour" that was starting to creep to about 3hrs every evening!

He is a bit unsettled this morning though, so think I may have to resort to pushing him in the pram or rocking in the car seat, the girls arent leaving him alone in the swing so we have to limit how long he goes in there!

RGPargy · 04/01/2008 10:43

Think the wind retention is deffo real - Ellie just had a feed and was then seemingly in pain, even with the dummy in. At least i know i'm not completely crackers!

So glad you had a good night too DJarm! It makes the world a much nicer place doesn't it?!

Easywriter · 04/01/2008 15:16

Babies and wind eh? Why is it sometimes/always so hard to get up?
Marnie is sleeping at the moment, she's in a moses basket which we use downstairs during the daytime as she sleeps in our bed at night.
I'm a bit in dread over when she out grows it which will be SOON as she doesn't like being upstairs during the day. Anyone got any ideas besides installing a cot. Maybe I'll find her a nice draw to sleep in .

RGPargy · 04/01/2008 15:21

Easy, Ellie sleeps in her basket upstairs, which she'll also grow out of soon () but downstairs we have now got this little chair that lays flat that she sleeps in during the day HERE. As she's so little, she is actually flat in it. When she gets bigger tho she might have to either snooze in the pushchair or upstairs in the cot. It wont be long til she's in the cot at night anyway!

RGPargy · 04/01/2008 15:22

I should add that the pushchair is also a lay flat one, in case you're thinking that i'm subject my child to sleeping sitting upright!!

Easywriter · 04/01/2008 15:36

I know you wouldn't dream of doing such a thing RG!

The chair looks cool, from the pictures it seems like it lasts a while too.

Who makes it (the home website hasn't come up or any clues, it's just a picture of the chair).

RGPargy · 04/01/2008 15:41

Oh sorry, for some reason i thought i'd told you!

It's the Fisher Price Link-a-doos chair. Toys R Us do it, but you'll find it all over the place no doubt.

DanJARMouse · 04/01/2008 15:44

We have a carrycot with the pram, and Daniel sleeps in it day and night at the moment!

Wont be long though and he will be in the cot I guess, hoping he learns to sleep in the swing a bit more for now!

LizzieO · 04/01/2008 17:20

Hi everyone typing onehanded at the mo' with Ollie on my arm and DS right by my side - oh for 5 mins peace to myself

silkcushion - we too went thru phase of putting Ollie to bed then having to run up every 30 mins to rock him etc to try and get him back to sleep, our evening were non-exsistent, eventually we did what we did with DS, ie put him up to bed then let him cry, it isn't nice listening to your baby crying but now he cries initially but then goes to sleep until his next feed ie 3 to 4 hours. We now have our evenings back.

Sarahloumadam - we had to put Ollie in his cot as he too was wriggling to the top of his basket then getting really frustrated, he looks absolutely tiny in his cot but he seems to like it, he still wriggles up the cot though and out of his covers, apart from tethering his leg to bottom of cot not sure what to do, i suppose we cld use those Gro-bags

Potty training still proving an absolute mare, DS will only go on potty if i remind him religously every 45 mins to sit on it, otherwise he just wees straight through his pant and also poos in his pants and doesn't seem the slightest bit bothered, its making me want to cry, it now been over a week and he just doesn;'t seem the slightest bit interested.....any tips anyone ?

ok DH waiting for me to take baby back so he can go to the loo,

hope you all have a good evening

LO xxxxx

RGPargy · 04/01/2008 17:39

Lizzie - how many weeks is Ollie now? In a way i cant wait to put Ellie in her cot coz then she'll get to use the room DP so lovingly decorated for her!

No advice re potty training i'm afraid. That's one area of parenthood that is still buried deep in the grey matter that is called "selective memory". I do think persistence is the key tho. Good luck!

DanJARMouse · 04/01/2008 17:59

I know what you mean about using the rooms that have been decorated... daniels really cool cars and trucks room is being used as a rather large wardrobe/dumping ground!

Will probably wait until at least the end of next week before trying the cot again, I like to wait til 6 weeks if I can, didnt manage it with DD2 though - she was in her own room by 5 days old lol She was such a mutterer in her sleep!

Luckily daniel doesnt mutter that much, tends to mutter for a bit before drifting off and mutters before screaming to be fed!

The bath routine at night is really helping now, Daniel has had his bath, is in his pj's and now asleep in the carrycot. Expecing him to wake for a feed at about 8ish though!

Got a friend coming round tonight, havent seen her since the day daniel was born - she visited me in hospital!

Where have the last 5 weeks gone?!

silkcushion · 04/01/2008 18:06

rg and jarm congrats on having decent nights.

lizzie - good luck with the potty training. no ideas her i'm afraid. must be a nightmare for you though.

pixie - thanks for that - i wasn't sure what to think about this crying.

dd cried until 2.30 - we had no idea how to soothe her. she would settle for a couple of minutes and then start shouting/crying again. But she then slept until 5.30am, had some water and went straight back down not waking again until 8.30. after that feed we snuggled up til 11am Think maybe she is feeling rubbish as she has had a cold for over a week. Lots of snot and seems to be struggling a bit. Have just been to get saline drops from the chemist - hoefully they will help.

Hope you all have good evenings/nights

RGPargy · 04/01/2008 18:21

DJarm - thankfully we've managed to keep Ellie's room neat and tidy because all her stuff's in there so it HAS to be tidy or i'd never find anything!

Now that Ellie has a dummy, she gets herself off to sleep very easily - i'm feeling redundant!!! Normally she would have mummycuds to get off to sleep but she doesn't even need that now! Perhaps she's just growing up, eh?

jetgirl · 04/01/2008 20:18

I actually got 5 hours solid sleep last night - amazing! William also spent more time asleep in his crib than ever before, so maybe he's realised it's not so awful after all!

Lizzie - have no tips about potty training I'm afraid. We tried in July but it was clear that DD just had no bowel or bladder control. She just now seems to recognising when she needs to poo, but still no bladder control. Perhaps you could give it a break for a week or so then come back to it. I'm led to believe that not pressurizing them helps. Thought I might have a look at Gina Ford's book.

Silk - hope the saline drops work. I got some for William and they seem to be doing the trick, he certainly feeds more easily now.

Djarm - we're using disposables at night too, definitely easier to change when semi-conscious, and I think more comfy for baby too.

DH and I are going to snuggle up and watch a film now, haven't done that for a bit.

ChocolateHobnob · 04/01/2008 21:49

Lizzie, good luck with the potty training!

RG, I bet she will still need mummy cuddles... dont speak too soon...

Good day here - went out for lunch and Rebecca slept through it. We had a crap night though - she thoroughly hated the sleeping bag and kept batting herself in the face and waking herself up. She's back in it tonight, so we shall see... do your babies hit themselves in the face still?! She's 7 weeks.

Got to sleep now as she is - amazed people are watching films and doing normal things...

RGPargy · 04/01/2008 22:31

Choc - yeah, mummycuds needed here tonight after all, but only because we are slightly out of sync with the routine (all one day of it!) because DP got home late from work, dinner was late, and she didn't get her bath etc etc so is probably over tired. I've ended up swaddling her in the hope that she'll settle fairly quickly. She's not being fractious, just completely wide awake!!

Oh and yes, she hits herself in the face AND scratches her face to bits. I had to cut her nails today because she was clawing chunks out of herself!

sparklygothkat · 04/01/2008 22:35

callum had his six week check today (corrected age of 8 weeks) and the gp is very happy with him, he said he is a healthly, happy little man, as callum kept grinning at him... he now weighs 8lb 15oz!!!

great news, Sparkly!

choudru · 05/01/2008 00:12

Evening all,

Got back today from a couple of days at my mums. Was kind of nice but today DS puked up all over mums carpet, my PJs and himself. Legged it upstairs to bath him and myself, while my sis cleaned the carpet and my mum rinsed out the clothes. Nightmare. Felt like crying actually - bit silly but I shall blame it on the last of the hormones.

Planning a quiet weekend hopefully. Will be having a nice social week next week - finally getting to meet LOM's little Thomas on monday Plus my best friend is coming to stay for a week or so. Miss her like mad since we moved from London so will be utterly fabulous to have so much time with her. Can't wait!

Sara has been sleeping 7 hours at night lately which is more than I could wish for. But not pleased with her weight gain - 6oz in 2 weeks. Nothing to worry about (she's had a cold so hasn't been feeding very well) but I'm just worried about my milk supply suffering so have been expressing twice a day. Really need to eat better to produce more fatty milk.

I haven't caught up on all of the posts yet. Need to drag myself up to bed since Sara is asleep and I have just finished expressing. I need to get to bed because if I start reading posts, I'll be here for an hour.

Will catch up properly tomoz. choudru scatters magic fairy dust over all babies to make them sleep soundly tonight

sparklygothkat · 05/01/2008 00:17

ch. I know your baby is sleeping well, but if you can, you could express at 2am to help your supply, but if your supply is well established (sp??) then her sleeping through will not affect your milk supply.

jetgirl · 05/01/2008 09:26

choudru - thank you for the magic fairy dust! it worked on William

DanJARMouse · 05/01/2008 10:42

Morning all!

Another fab night here really, Daniel fell asleep at tea time last night, woke at 9.30pm for a bottle, slept til 3am, woke for bottle, slept til 6.15am, woke for bottle, slept til 9am!

Cant complain really, still not feeling myself as such, but I will get there eventually.

Had a great night with an old friend last night, she popped in to see us, and didnt leave til 11.30pm! REgretting it this morning because Im shattered, but its all good!

RGPargy · 05/01/2008 10:56

Morning all

Didn't have too bad a night with Ellie, although she was out of routine so it screwed her up a bit i think!

She finally went off at 11.30 and didn't wake for a feed until 2.30, then again at 5.30 and again 8.30 so cant complain too much! She's starting to feed for half an hour stints lately so I'm hoping it'll mean she'll go four hourly soon. Either that or she's just having a growth spurt!

The decorations are down now - hoorah! It's nice to have the house looking tidy(ish) again. I think after a while christmas decs look messy, dont they?

DP has gone off to make music in our mate's studio so i have the day to myself. I'll probably just spend the day tidying up the pigstye of a kitchen and conservatory. Such a tip!!

Have a nice day everyone.

fiona76 · 05/01/2008 11:23

Choc- I have started using go-go- bag (sleeping bag) but I still swaddle DDs arms over the top of bag so she is fairly immobile and sleeps well.

I have bought and read Gina Ford yesterday and started the week4-6 routine today because DD wasn't sleeping during day much and was really grumpy by late afternoon. We have the bath, bed routine sorted as we started that when she was 3 weeks and she sleeps really well at night. So far I like the routine but I had to wake her at 10.30 last night as she normally sleeps through until 2amish but that meant I was waking twice at night to feed her (again at 5ish). She woke for a feed at 3.30am and then I had to wake her at 7am. She had a lovely nap at 9 and woke up all smiley and cute so I'm liking it so far. I think I wasn't feeding her for long enough at each feed so then I had to feed evry hour and a half to 2 hours during the day which was so exhasting and she mustn't have been full enough so didn't want to nap.

Anyway I'm pleased with how its going. I'm a bit of a control freak/nerd so it feels good to have a plan to follow after weeks of crazyiness and my baby is happy and chilled.

By the way I started using my washable nappies this week and its going well but I don't have enough yet to use them exclusively. I have had poos down the side of the leg but that is also happening with disposables at the moment. i will still use disposables at night for the time being.

RGPargy · 05/01/2008 11:30

Fiona - glad DD is sleeping well at night

I'm still in disposables here and am not so sure i could actually go onto cloth nappies, particularly after an "incident" yesterday involving me changing DD when she wasn't quite finished but thankfully i had put a flannel under her bum just in case and she ended up going all over that! there's no way i could have scraped the poo off and washed it, so the flannel went straight in the bin! I dont mind tho coz it was only 20p, but the thought of washing stuff like that......
