The swing has transformed me! Ive gone from sitting on my arse with clingy velcro baby to sitting on my arse with no baby!

Daniel has had a bath, a feed and is asleep in his carrycot now, hoping he stays that way for a bit because he has been awake a lot of today - probably had 2hrs sleep tops!

ara · 03/01/2008 19:28

hello everyone -

RG - haven't read your thread but am off over there after i've written this! being doing a lot of research on bf with big boobs - i'm in j-cups atm which are too small (no...!) and Phoebe is pretty overwhelmed by them i think - i too make a breathing space where her nose is, and often lie down to feed her as find it quite unwieldy trying to do it sitting up. Phoebe also sems to be getting bad trapped wind - i can burp her for ages and nowt comes out, but then out of nowhere she does the most enormous burps and it's making her quite mithery and shouty which hasn't really been like her so far.

I managed my first BF in public today in Rosslyn Chapel of all places!! went to see it with MIL who disappeared when i whipped my boob out! she said later that i was v discreet tho and no-one seemed to notice at all which is great (not that i'm at all self conscious about doing it in public, just that my boobs are so massive that it's v difficult to get a nipple out without the whole thing toppling out of these bleeding BF bras - don't want to flash unnecessarily!).

Sparkly - Phoebe has strated cluster feeding every evening for past few days - it's exhausting me! at least i'm getting a fairly reliable sleep from about 12-7 with one short feed in the middle tho.

Huge amounts of snow here - kids sledging and having snowball fights when we went out today!

ara · 03/01/2008 19:29

hmm swing sounds good jarm - my arse is beginning to get sofa spread quite badly!

littleoldme · 03/01/2008 19:31

DJARM _Sorry if you know all this already - Just wanted to say that I was on anti ds about 18 months ago. They really upset my stoamch intially but I stuck with then and they were a major help. They didn't make everything better but they calmed me down enough so I could work things out. Stick with it if you can. XX

Love to everyone else. I'm mostly lurking at the mo as I'm absolutley buggered.

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 20:30

Evening girls!!

Bloody hell, you lot are like buses! No posts for ages, and then suddenly - WHAM!!

Thought i'd take this opportunity to catch up because Ellie is asleep in her cot and has been for the last 30 minutes after a bath. The secret? The good ol' dummy. We are carrying on as normal with baited breath, waiting for her to stir.... She was getting fractious this evening around 5.30 so i thought i'd give it a go in front of DP (who's dead against them) and he couldn't believe the change in her when i stuck it in. It was like someone had flicked a switch in her. She was so much more relaxed after a while of just chilling out in her little chair. Her contently sucking my finger 3 times has done for me. She now has a dummy for our sanity!

DJarm - so glad the swing is working out for you and Daniel. Hoorah!!!!! I too have a sofa bum, although i think i had one to start with, but that's not the point. Sounds like Daniel is (hopefully) getting back to the 7-11-3 routine doesn't it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! I dont think Ellie will go more than 3 hours without a feed (and usually wakes up spot on 3 hours) so we'll probably end up with a 7-10-1-4-7 routine. UGH!! that sounds HORRIBLE!! Hopefully as i've now introduced the dummy, she might skip a night feed.

Pixie - did DD1 enjoy the massage in the class in any event? I think more than anything i'm doing it to get me out of the house and possibly meeting other mums in my (sort of) area.

Jet - so sorry you had an uber pants night. I (and everyone else on here!) totally know how you feel. Hope you have a better night tonight. At least he is putting on weight and is healthy, which seems to make it all worthwhile, doesn't it. DD being good as well makes being really really tired a bit more bearable too i should imagine.

Easy - hello and Happy New Year to you too!

Sparkly - i dont think anyone gets their LOs in bed for the WHOLE NIGHT at 7pm! We should be so lucky!

Fiona - i cant believe how calm she is now with a dummy, especially as she's only used it for like 3 hours! I just hope we're not running up and down the stairs all night sticking said dummy back in her gob. Still, that's gotta be better than trying to console her all night! Sounds like you've got a real plan for getting back into shape. My ideas are just pie in the sky at the mo, but that's probably because i'm just going to be exercising at home once the conservatory is re-arranged to accommodate the TV and video so i can do my exercise DVDs/videos.

Lizzie - hello and Happy New Year to you too! It's worrying about teh talc thing isn't it. With DS i used it all the time, especially after a bath and i loved him smelling all lovely. Johnson's Baby Powder just has that smell, doesn't it? Since i've been aware of possible health implications tho, i've not used it. Such a shame. Potty training - UGH! I remember it well - kind of! It's a very hard phase but when they crack it, it's wonderful! Keep at it!

sparklygothkat · 03/01/2008 20:33

lol I didn't mean asleep all night, i meant upstairs at 7pm, Callum is with me downstairs till midnight at least..

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 20:37

Oh right! Sorry! DD is normally with me all night until we go to bed at around midnight too. Having a lucky night so far tho with DD in bed by 7.30!

Pixiefish · 03/01/2008 20:44

RG- the baby massage was fab- go for it

Easywriter · 03/01/2008 20:52

(Obviously) not entirely sure about the bf with big boobs discussion but thought I'd share a few experiences I've had with you.

Just for the record I've got ma-hoo-sive boobs. (Which Marnie pumped up even more with the growth spurt she's just had such that had I dared leave the house it would have been with a Trinny and Suzannah shameful 4 boobs!)

Someone said to me (another mum) that part of my fear/worry of bf in public could be because my boobs were now even bigger than normal but that I should try to relax as almost everybody is a bit more fearful as their boobs are bigger too. (Crazy that this should positively affect me, but it did.)

Also, I made sure the first few times I bf were in places like a local Surestart cafe or a cafe rammed to the gills with bf mums. A bit contrived I know but just for the first few times, it really helped with my confidence and allowed me to sort out some of the teething problems (like showing too much flesh).

I hope everyone who's abit in fear of it persists with trying. It's not too bad. (I haven't bf anywhere particularly exciting like ara but for me, bf at the christmas dinner table in front of BIL and MIL was pretty daring - and fine too, no nipples/boobs on display!)

I'm just trying to get to grips with real nappies. Today is the third time we've tried to use them. Marnie has a bit of umbilical cord which is growing too fast and so have been putting it off whilst that sorts itself out. How are other real nappy users getting on with them?

silkcushion · 03/01/2008 20:55

Phew - I've made it - the dsc have gone home. Feel like the house is my own again.

DH has gone to Tescos to get some nice food and a bottle of wine. I think he was hoping for "relations" but I just told him I feel deeply unsexy. No make up, frizzy hair (see profile picture - updated), squidgy stretch marked tummy, hairy legs - feeling a bit sorry for myself. DH said get in the bath/shower, dd is in bed asleep (hopefully til 10ish) and I'll sort tea. Good dh!

I bought a yogalates dvd in tesco yesterday - tried it whilst dh took the kids home and Megan was sleeping. I was wrecked! And I only the did the warm up and half the first section - abs - what abs? where have they gone? I have no abdominal strength whatsoever - I'm suprised I can sit up without falling over actually

jetgirl · 03/01/2008 20:55

I'm feeling vaguely human now - hooray! DD has been such a start all day, which has helped, as did unburdening on here earlier . William seems much happier this evening, he has been burping better than he has before and suddenly seems much more settled. He tends to stay downstairs with me until I go to bed, sometime between 10 and 11, at the mo he's fast asleep in the pram, and I may go to bed and get DH to bring him up when he goes to bed, just so I can get some proper sleep in, instead of lazing in front of the tv . I know I could be imposing some kind of routine, but we never bothered with DH until she went into her own room, and she coped fine, so I think I'll stick with what worked last time (unless I start to lose it!)

Feeling pleased too as have finally got around to using the washable nappies - I'd forgotten how cute the big bum look is on babies! And DD is finally taking to her potty and asking to use it (don't ask how many months that's taken!)

Better eat some of the Christmas chocolate before I go to bed, I'll probably need the energy some time in the night!

jetgirl · 03/01/2008 21:00

easy - x-posts! What type are you using? We use the motherease ones and they seem fine, in fact they seem more comfortable on William than they did on DD. Am not bothering with liners as our ancient toilet can't cope with them, and they seem to wash fine.

silk - am contemplating my Davina McCall DVD again. Mum and I are doing a 6km run in May for the British Heart Foundation, so I need to get back into shape at some point. Haven't even started the exercises hospital gave me, my excuse is I've lost the pack and won't be able to find it until after the xmas decorations come down!

Easywriter · 03/01/2008 21:03

Lollipop nappies, both bamboo and whatever the other fluffy man made ones are

oops gotta go for a minute

silkcushion · 03/01/2008 21:08

I ran the race for life year before last. I loved it having never run before (well not since school cross country that is). I feel massively unfit now though. Started playing badminton again when dd was 3 weeks but not at my usual club at an easier one to get back into it.

Always have the post xmas unfit/overweight feeling in January but isn't it worse when you've got a newly acquired flabby tummy? i'm a bit worried it won't dissappear. i'm used to be fat but I've always been firm as well.

I also bought a Davina dvd (but it looked a bit more cardiovascular than the yogalates so I'll try it tomorrow when I've hopefully had some sleep).

Glad yr feeling human again

sparklygothkat · 03/01/2008 21:14

am doing Race for life this year. I am majorly unfit and worried tbh!!

OP posts:
RGPargy · 03/01/2008 21:18

Easy - my first BF in public will be in a BF environment too. I dont think i cant NOT show too much flesh/nipples as i have to hoike my boobs around to get the nipple into the correct position (the burdens of having "loose" boobs with absolutely zero perkiness!). We shall see tho. I might be able to work something out.

Silk - DP is also hoping for relations tonight because after having chicken pox, he's finally been able to shave his head and have a facial shave too (he'd have knocked the scabs off and left bad scarring if he'd done it before). I might oblige if DD stays quiet for a good period of time! As for DVDs, doesn't Davina to a postnatal work out too? And surely we're meant to wait til six weeks before exercising, aren't we? That's what i am lead to believe so that gives me two more weeks to build up my sofa-bum.

Jet - glad you're feeling more human. You should deffo eat some christmas chocolate! Great idea!

DanJARMouse · 03/01/2008 21:18

We finally managed to get the reusables on Daniel today too - the wrap we had been using was too small for him and cutting into his legs gutted because he didnt get a chance to wear it!

Will prob still use disposables at night - so much easier to do quickly in the dark!

DanJARMouse · 03/01/2008 21:23

I like my sofa-bum though! And I had a sofa bum before I had daniel, so why change it?!

I will admit, I need to start watching what I eat - Im still chocolate brownie mad and it isnt helping the waist - especially now im not Bfing!

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 21:26

DJarm - DP and i are intending to be a bit more healthy from now on (ish). If i can get this dummy thing to work, i'll have time to prep meals again, which will make a huge difference as the last few nights we've been living off takeaways again. Not good!!

sarahloumadam · 03/01/2008 21:49

Hi all just a quick post, want to get a bath between Lo's cluster feeding. Think we are on the same feeding schedule as you Sparkly - knackering isn't it!

V.interested re your dummy experience RG, have been v.tempted myself. Only thing stopping me is Adam has been very whingy on the boob last couple of days, think his latch has become a bit lazy or else maybe I have thrush? Want to get it sorted before i introduce a dummy.

Went to buy a cot today as Adam really likes to stretch out and his moses basket isn't big enough so he ends up banging his arms against the sides and then gets cross and shouts at me! He is a big baby too! Looks a lot older than 5 weeks. Not sure how my and the DH (both average sized short-arses) have produced this long pudding!

I was thinking about doing Race for Life this year. Did it a couple of times a few years back and it really motivated me to stay fit and I really enjoyed it. I am back in my pre-pregnancy jeans but my shape has changed so I look like a badly stuffed cushion! Glad it is winter cos at the mo I can't be arsed.

Thinking of all you cluster-feeding moms! x

ChocolateHobnob · 03/01/2008 21:59

Hi all

RG - I hate dummies but am using one with Rebecca to help her get to sleep and it works wonders!

Easy, hello! And Lizzie. And anyone else I've forgotten who's not been around recently...

On the public bf, I went to Debenhams yesterday and bought a couple of Miriam Stoppard bf bras - they have a sort of double cup, so the bottom half comes down to expose the nipple and allow you to feed while the top half stays put and gives you some discretion! They are 18 pounds for a pack of two (reduced from 25) and they are comfy so far. They go up to a G cup and not sure what back size but I noticed they had up to at least 40.

Shattered tonight and trying Rebecca in a sleeping bag instead of swaddling blanket for the 1st time - could be a disaster - wish me luck!

Have a good night, all..

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 22:09

SArah - Ellie was fussing at the breast too and i thought it was because of trapped wind etc but it was because she wanted to suckle but didn't want the milk! Hope you get the thrush sorted out soon. DD also likes to stretch out in her basket and i dont think it'll be too long before she outgrows that and has to go into her cot. That'll be a real landmark as the cot is in her room (no room in ours) so she'll be all on her lonesome! Am also badly stuffed, but more sack-like than cushion-like!

Choc - i hate them too, but needs must etc Are those miriam bras the ones called Nuture? They've got them online for £20 in a 40FF which i reckon should fit, although i cant really say i care at the mo as i only have one nursing bra which i'm wearing daily (rinsing them out daily too, of course!).

Right, think i'm going to take advantage of a very quiet little girl and go up to bed.

Have a good night everyone - hope you all manage to get a few good hours of kippage.

silkcushion · 04/01/2008 00:07

DD has just had a screaming fit after her late night feed.

We've been really hardcore and left her to cry a bit. Checked her after every 5 mins. She is really giving it some but stops as soon as we walk into our bedroom. Do you think this is her playing us a little bit? She's 8 weeks old. Not sure whether there is actually anything wrong - doesn't appear to be.

Off to try and settle her again - I bet this goes on til 1/2am

Pixiefish · 04/01/2008 08:23

silk- she's too young to be playing you up. She hasn't learned any of those behaviours yet. She's screaming because she's on her owna dn then stops when you walk in because she thinks she's got company/ she hears a noise and wants to hear what it is

RGPargy · 04/01/2008 08:45

Oh silk, sorry to hear about your pants night, but as Pixie says, it's deffo not her playing you up. She's probably just lonely.

Have one of you ladies been to my house in the night and swapped babies with me? I seem to have a rather contented baby here - i'm sure i had a screamer yesterday!!!

We had one of the best nights last night. DP and I went to bed around 10ish and i gave Ellie a dreamfeed (if that's what you call giving them a feed when they're still asleep). She then woke up at 2am and again at 6am. Neither time did she wake up screaming, but just kind of letting us know she was there so i got up and fed her before she made a fuss and generally she had a much bigger and better feed than she would have, had she been screaming when i got to her.

She even brought up alot of wind too when i burped her, which is something she never does!! I'm beginning to wonder if all this self-diagnosed reflux and/or wind retention is actually non-existent and all she actually wanted was to be soothed with a dummy!
