yeah actually we take them off her but they do immediately soothe a fractious baby.

Megan wouldn't sleep last night from midnight til 2am. Not crying or distressed but awake. That's the problem with having them in yr room isn't it? There was no way I could sleep - dh was snoring away happily though

Any snow down yr way? None in Gloucestershire - we're contemplating going out for a walk

DanJARMouse · 03/01/2008 11:38

RGP - Good luck with the dummy! Daniel has a dummy for getting off to sleep sometimes, mainly in the evening too.

Got his swing this morning, so DH is just doing the nappy thing and then we will pop him in it and see what he thinks - if its anything like the bouncer, he will hate it and I would have wasted £30 but hey ho, at least I didnt fork out the £89 they cost new!

DanJARMouse · 03/01/2008 11:39

No snow here yet either.... but being right on the coast, we will be lucky if we do get any. The wind is bitter though - will be staying in today and sending DH out to take DD1 to nursery!

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 11:41

Oh how annoying when they're wide awake and the last thing you want to do is entertain them at stupid o'clock in the morning! Ellie was awake at one point last night in her basket and i just knew she would stir but DP and i laid there sniggering while i pretended to be snoring in the hope that she'd get the message. No such luck!!

No snow in my part of Kent yet, although it is bloody cold! It wont be too long before it's hear no doubt. We always get it sooner rather than later. I dont care tho. I've got a lovely baby and cozy house and nowhere particularly important to go.

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 11:43

DJarm - good luck with the swing!! They are horrendously expensive from new aren't they?! DD now has her little vibrating chair and i have to say that the vibrations pretty much do nothing other than wake her up more but she is happy to snooze in the chair and likes the rocking motion of it so it's not all a waste of money. Plus you can use the chair til toddler age so it'll get good use.

DanJARMouse · 03/01/2008 11:44

well so far so good, its been all of about 3 minutes but he's in it and looking around.... no crying yet!

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 11:46

That's a start at least!!!

Ooo forgot to say - i've booked in for a session of baby massage starting on 15th Jan. Anyone else done this? My friend works for the organisation that runs the 5 week courses so i was lucky to get the last place in the building where she works. I'm really looking forward to it!

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 12:00

Just started to snow!

DanJARMouse · 03/01/2008 12:29

He is asleep in the swing! OMG! RESULT!

Still no snow though

Pixiefish · 03/01/2008 12:55

did baby massage with dd1 although never did it at home- just never got motivated enough

i bought a swing for dd2- it's a mini one and was about £60. tis very handy

jetgirl · 03/01/2008 14:33

Last night was the worst yet, and the lowest I think I've ever felt. William was sick three times, each after a substantial feed, and didn't settle until gone 3.30 when he finally decided to keep it down. By this time I was seriously grumpy and tearful, and absolutely starving so I just had to eat. He then woke again at 6 so sleep was negligible last night

Anyway, feeling much brighter now. Had 6 week check this morning and doc was v pleased with him, she also advised a bit of cbeebies to keep DD amused while i have a nap! Nice to have a gp who is human! Then went to get William weighed for the first time in three weeks, he'd put on 1 1/2 pounds and is 11lbs 5oz now, so that made me feel like everything is working at least and I must be doing something right.

DD has been an angel today, was brilliant at docs, and amused herself really nicely at clinic while i fed William. That's improved my mood too.

No snow here, but then we're coastal so prob won't get much.

Easywriter · 03/01/2008 14:40

Hello everyone and happy new year. I can't face trying to catch up after 6 weeks of not switching on the computer so you'll just have to slap me when I get it wrong.

Sorry to hear about your bad night jetgirl, my dd sleeps like a log... you've gotta be kidding, she sleeps just like a baby, I've had a fair few bad nights too! Nightmare when you've got other children to keep amused all day too isn't it!

When Marnie has a bad night and it's early evening and I'm dying, I just get the girls into bed and then tuck myself up too. (Just in case another bad night follows which hasn't happened once...terrible, terrible)

Easywriter · 03/01/2008 14:41

Sorry, which has happened once

sparklygothkat · 03/01/2008 14:44

what I want to know is HOW you lot manage to get your babies to sleep at 7pm upstairs. Callum is still feeding back-to-back till at least midnight, last night till 1:30am!! How do you do it?? I am begining to feel the tireness now...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

RG- Glad you got some joy with the dummies. I started using one after a few days so you have done so well. They are very soothing for the LOs who just want to suck, suck, suck.
I am also going to book for baby massage my childrens centre does them so I'm going to ring up this afternoon.

I have my 6 week check up on monday and I am starting with some exercising next week. Post natal aquasize on wednesday, post natal exercise at the hospital on thursday. The physios run a exercise thing and you can go along for 6 weeks after your 6 week check up. My children centre also do yoga so I'll find out about that. I'm going to NZ for a month in march and then going back to work (part time) so I should enjoy the time off and DD enjoys being out and about.

fiona76 · 03/01/2008 15:09

Sparkly- Callum must still be doing lots of catch up growing he is getting bigger now so hopefully will settle down on his feeds. Do your other kids go to bed easily?? Are they all back at school again now? Hopefully it will be a bit quieter during the day for you and you and callum can cozy up and have an afternoon nap.

Easywriter · 03/01/2008 15:14

Wow! Are babies really sleeping from 7, what all the way through?

How!?

LizzieO · 03/01/2008 15:18

Happy New Year everyone

Has been a couple of weeks since i last logged on, so hope i haven't missed anything major. Ollie is doing well, he is now 10ib 9oz and 8 weeks today, at the moment we are putting him to bed at 20.00 to 20.30 pm, he then wakes at about midnight for BF then again at 4.00ish, then 6.30ish, so i can;t complain i guess, tho i think DS was more or less sleeping thru at this stage, tho' he was formula fed.

Bit worried to hear about talc health worries, i have been using it on Ollie epsecially his bum, and positively douse myself and DS with it after baths etc is it really that hazardous to use !!!! how come it doesn't carry health warning.

Had v good crimbo tho got that tummy bug virus thing on crimbo night which lasted till day after boxing day, wasn't sure whether i should still be BF but figured that i didn't really have a choice, Ollie seemed to get thru ok without getting ill

As trying to potty train 3 yr old DS, what a nightmare, he just doesn't seem to get it, unless i pop him on potty at regualr intervals he just wets / poos himself, am using stickers / prizes / praising / telling him off / pleading, oh well he starts back at nursery next week so maybe he will start to get better then

am going to try and log on at least once a day now

have a good evening everyone xxxxxx

sparklygothkat · 03/01/2008 15:27

Callum is now 8lb 10oz, and has fed like this since he came home in october. He has managed to sleep 3 times from 12-6am, but has gone back to feeding back-to=back in the evenings, and wakes at 5am, 7am, and 9am. Kids are back to school next week...

DanJARMouse · 03/01/2008 15:31

Daniel seems to settle anytime from 8-10pm, than wakes usually about 1 and 5am, although we switched to Dr Brown anti-colic bottles last night and he fed at 9pm and 2.30am and then through til 6.45am.

Today he has been pretty much bang on 4hrly with 6.45am, 11.15am and 3pm so hoping to get back into the 7,11,3 routine that I love so much because it means we are only up once in the night instead of twice!

Not had any snow here, just started to rain in fact, DH has taken Daniel to go and pick up DD1 from nursery, and DD2 is asleep on the sofa, Im only just up anyway - started my anti-depressants last night and feeling very wobbly today - as well as very sick since I took it last night, so not sure about taking them again!

Hope you are all ok, and can i just say again - the swing is ACE - I can actually sit and have a cuppa or wash the dishes without velcro baby wanting to be held! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO

Easywriter · 03/01/2008 15:37

MArnie seems to be fairly normal on balance it seems.

She has no routine, she does as she pleases (as do other dd's ).

I don't mind though as I tend to keep her with me so she's usually calm whether she's asleep, awake or on the breast. (Thank goodness).

I took her with me to see Viva la Diva (with Darcey Bussell and Katherine Jenkins) a few weeks ago and she only cried for about 3 seconds (obviously couldn't be ar*ed - a family trait) I was v. grateful. Needless to say the boxing day panto was a cinch!

We've fallen into cosleeping as I am incredibly lazy (and I just can't get her to settle in the moses basket for longer than about half an hour at a time at night).

Pixiefish · 03/01/2008 16:06

Sparkly- Swyn does that- cluster feeds all evening but will then sleep for 5 maybe 6 hours solid at night.

Had her jabs and 8 week check today- she's 8 15 now soshe has gained 6 oz in this last week which is what she should be gaining.
Have emailed my breastfeeding consultant to see what I need to do now- wheter I continue with the supplementer for a bit or start cutting back or what

silkcushion · 03/01/2008 16:31

sgk - no idea how to stop evening cluster feeding. Maybe try feeding more earlier in the day if he'll take it?

sparklygothkat · 03/01/2008 16:34

he has his 6 week check (a bit late) tomorrow. Will ask my HV how to get him settle earlier in the evenings

JARM - I have a swing and it was the best thing I ever bought - expensive but soooooo worth it - DD loves it!

Pixie, good news! I'm so pleased for you and DD.

No time now as DD is calling (she has a cold and is a bit clingier than usual) but more later and hugs to all!
