rg you most definately not a failure ur daughter is thriving and gorgeous! Just think is nice for dh to spend some time with dd and get ur head down or have a bath! looked at ur feeding thread - that kellymom site is excellent, found a great article about cluster feeding and fussy evenings made me feel [happy]

Pixiefish · 01/01/2008 14:44

sarahlou- don't know what helped dh and I- things just got better. He went to see a solicitor at one point- we did hae other issues though but it was all made a hell of a lot worse by being parents for the first time. I think we both realised what we had to lose and what dd had to lsoe if we did split up

jetgirl · 01/01/2008 17:12

RG - I know what you mean about resenting Dh for being able to just get on and do things whenever instead of waiting for an opportunity to, say, go to the loo! He doesn't seem to understand that when I need to unload the washing machine, I must do it then, or else I won't get the chance to do it. So I ask him to do it, and he says 'when I've finished this game' [on the flaming PS3] or whatever else he's doing, and he can't understand why I get frustrated because he won't just get on with it!

Silk - I'm with you on sometimes wanting to hurt DH because there is just no way he's as sleep-deprived as me, as he snores 'peacefully' beside me while I'm feeding William.

Sarah - you and your DH sound perfectly normal to me! I have found that explaining to DH exactly what I'm feeling helps, either that or 'forgetting' to wash his clothes for a few days! Makes me feel better anyway! BF is also really tiring, and even if men are awake during the night feeds, they're still not actually doing them. After one good whinge I was given flowers and a chocolate fudge brownie, so it definitely had it's plus side

Anyway, enough ranting - Happy New Year everyone! We had a very quiet one at home - DH fell asleep on the sofa before midnight! We've enjoyed a nice family day, went for a walk this afternoon, and DD has done some painting which we'll send as her thank you letters. Going to cook dinner now - or at least start to cook it, then William will wake for a feed and DH will have to finish off! he does have his uses!

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 01/01/2008 21:45

Happy New Year everyone - I've been trying to keep up ( though not very well) but haven't had time to post lately. Elliot's still not in much of a routine and is hideously windy/fretful/a feeding machine from 5-9 almost every night so I've been going to bed early with him and just feeding him to sleep (yes, I know... rod/back..been there/should know better, what can I say? I like feeding him to sleep and it works ). Like many of you, I'm getting a bit irritated with DH complaining he's tired, but that's par for the course. I'm trying to keep in mind that this is the hardest time and it'll not be for long. Take care all and here's to a wonderful 2008

DanJARMouse · 01/01/2008 21:54

Evening all

We are still trying to settle and unsettled boy... not sure whats up but yesterday and today he has been seriously high maintenance and is STILL not asleep yet tonight.

Really hoping that when he does crash he will be out cold for the night, although if last night was anything to go by, I guess I need to think about going to bed soon!

WOndering if being at dads and there being different noises/people/smells is whats doing it, thank god we are going home tomorrow.

Daniel is at the hospital in the morning for his hearing test - he failed the newborn one at a day old, so its round 2 tomorrow. Really hope its ok, im sure it will be, but there is always that element of worry!

HOpe you are all doing well and your first day of 2008 has been a good one.... just think in 11 months time we will have been celebrating 1st birthdays! OMG!

DanJARMouse · 01/01/2008 23:16

have added a couple of pics taken today!

ara · 01/01/2008 23:34

Awww he's gorgeous jarm!

Phoebe and i have decamped to the sofa after couple of failed attempts to get into bed. aah.

She in normally sparko for most of the evening and feeds at around ten, then 3-4 ish and then around 7am but today for some reason she has fed pretty much solidly from 4pm till now - i am bloody knackered! After she;s finished a boob she sleeps for ten mins then we start all over again. If i try sneak her into her basket she wakes immediately - just wants to be crammed up against my boob for some reason.

RG and Sarah - with you on the DP/H thing - i feel like i'm being pinned to the sofa/chair/bed ATM. RG - my DP keeps going for a smoe too and i want to spit blood in his direction becauseit's time when he could be giving me a 5 min break instead!! Feel bad complaining tho as he has transformed into super-housekeeper since the LO arrived and has been doing champion job keeping me fed. I'm so glad he;s bing so good around the house as it would tip me over the edge if it all went to shit in here after all the work we put into it when i was pg.

Can someone pls invent an [exhausted] emoticon...........yawn........

ara · 01/01/2008 23:36

Oh! Happy New Year everyone! ....iy's all starting to blend into one big long day and i'm losing track!

sarahloumadam · 02/01/2008 13:28

Well after bitching about my DH yesterday he was a dream husband, cooking, cleaning and complimenting me! Whoops, maybe he read the thread!

Hope you are all well, nothing much to report here, DS is lovely and snoozey, snuggly today. Long may it last. We had a dance earlier which he thought was great fun and I got lots of smiles and coos. Gorgeous.

Anyone else got a very farty baby? Adam does trumps that an adult male would be proud of! It didn't alarm me until other people have been at the volume of them then I started to think maybe it is not normal! It doesn't seem to bother him anyway, in fact he looks rather pleased with himself.

ara · 02/01/2008 13:30

Sarah - Phoebe does proper mansize ones too - she gets that from DP....obviously...

RGPargy · 02/01/2008 13:39

Morning everyone

Had a lovely sleep last night. Went to bed around midnight and Ellie slept til just gone 5am!!! I think that's the longest sleep she's ever had in her little life! Certainly gave me some time to recharge my batteries properly. So then i fed her and she was off again until just after 8am. Brilliant!

Feeling much more positive today due to some much needed sleep. We're taking no prisoners today tho so DP was out at first light buying a vibrating chair (bought the Fisher Price Link-a-doos thing) and some Gripe Water (she's 4 weeks today) although the woman in Toys R Us swears by cooled boiled water so we may well give that a go too. I dont think Ellie has colic, but i do think she has terrible wind retention. Someone on the other sleep thread mentioned about it and gave me a link to a website and she does have classic wind symptons, rather than colic symptons. Famous last words! We shall see what happens tonight!

Jarm - Daniel is GORGEOUS!!!

Hope everyone is having a nice day today so far.

Anyone else not registered their DCs yet? Must phone up and book an appointment at the registry office!!! whoops!

RGPargy · 02/01/2008 13:42

Sarah & Ara - yes, DD does mahoooosive trumps too! I thought she was the only uncooth (sp?) baby here, but seems she is not alone!

As for DP, he has been lovely with my teariness yesterday. I felt that the world was against me - DD would cry when i held her, cry when i put her down, cry during and after a feed, cry when i cooed at her - i just couldn't win!! Today however, she has been smiling and talking to me and even copied my mouth shapes, which was lovely!

DanJARMouse · 02/01/2008 15:33

Daniel had his hearing test this morning, and finally after much faffing around we got the all clear - honestly thought we may have a problem at one point but all appears well!

Daniel is a true fart-machine! Certainly takes after daddy!

Just won a swing on ebay for Daniel - he loves being rocked/swung in his car seat or pram, so hopefully this will give mummy and daddy some spare time! Just waiting to see how soon I can pick it up.... i need some sanity!

Daniel did well last night though, was up twice, but thats because he seems to have settled into 3hrly feeds rather than 4hrly! So we are doing 1am and 4ish!

RGPargy · 02/01/2008 15:49

That's a relief Jarm. Ellie has hers very soon - next week i think! Hope he likes his new swing!

silkcushion · 02/01/2008 18:01

good news on Daniel's hearing test. I love that first photo of him.

Ellie- good girl for giving mummy lots of lovely sleep followed by baby cuteness all day.

Megan is also a right little farter!

RGPargy · 02/01/2008 18:35

Farters United!!

fiona76 · 02/01/2008 19:34

RG- I was reading your other thread the other day and wanted to comment on the boob issue. I have G cup boobs and am also size 20-22 and find feeding lying down quite comfortable. I latch her on first and then lie down this takes a little practise as sometimes she falls off but we have both got better. I only feed her like this first thing in the morning but its lovely and snuggly. I sometimes have to put my finger on my boob to hold it away from her nose so she can breathe but shes also got used to that. If you pull them towards your tummy they tilt and can breathe easier. I think their noses are especially shaped to breathe with even the most massive boobs.

DanJARMouse · 02/01/2008 20:02

The first one is the best photo we have of him so far! He is bloody lovely, even if i am slightly biased!

RGPargy · 02/01/2008 20:28

Thanx for that Fiona. I'm glad i'm not the only one who has to make their own breathing indentation!!

We've been trying a different position over the last couple of days - i've been having her kind of laying on top of me rather than laying flat in a cradle and i find it alot easier to feed her that way, plus (fingers crossed!) she doesn't appear to have as much wind as before. I could be proved totally wrong tonight tho - we shall see!

ChocolateHobnob · 02/01/2008 21:47

RG, do you use a feeding pillow? That really helps me... I am hopeless without...

Oh and I tried cooled boiled water twice. Once it worked fantastically and induced SIX burps!!! The second time, it did nothing.

DD has a nasty cold, caught from me. I fear this is going to be a sleepless night. I hate seeing her wet eyes and agitated state...

Hope you're all doing okay!

aikigypsy · 02/01/2008 21:50

Hi everyone!

I haven't been on the internet much lately, but I thought I'd check in. I've only read the last page and am right there with you all on the fussy, feed-me-again-now nights, and the farts and the partner/husband who takes his time getting to things and sleeps about twice as much as I do .

We're in Ireland now, came over New Year's eve. It was quite a journey, but Nova slept from just after takeoff (from New York) straight through until we arrived at my mother-in-law's house, nearly eight hours. I was actually a bit worried, but she seems to be fine.

We've done much more going out and traveling than I'd had in mind, but I feel all right.

Maybe I'll post a photo tonight.

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 10:29

Choc - Haven't tried the pillow thing. I really do want to but we keep spending all this money on the baby and i'm feeling guilty about it so dont want to keep spending money on "unnecessaries" IYKWIM. I'd heard about cooled boiled water too. Some woman in Toys R Us was talking to DP and she swore by it!

Aiki - Welcome to the UK! Wow, 8 hours straight is some sleep! At least she didn't know anything about it and you could enjoy (?) the journey without her waking up and fretting! Looking forward to seeing a pic!

I think i might have found the answer to the screaming abdabs at night. I cant remember who it was (i think it was Sarah?) but someone suggested putting my little finger into Ellie's mouth when she's fretting to see if that helps. Well i did it last night and the relief was INSTANT!! Ellie sucked on my finger and stopped crying and then fell asleep!!! So i sat there for a while with her still sucking away and managed to put her to bed. After a while she started stirring again so i put my finger back in her mouth and she went off again. You know what's coming dont you?!! The dummies are now steralised and ready for use - i will be using them tonight when she's fractious again. I'm assuming that after a month solid, our breastfeeding is well and truly established and that she wont get nipple confusion or anything - that is my only worry.

Have a nice day ladies!

silkcushion · 03/01/2008 11:29

good luck with the dummies Rg (v difficult to imagine how we coped without them now)

Aiki- let's see Nova. Have a great time in Ireland

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 11:33

Silk - DS survived on a dummy too! There's no way i could have gone through his babyhood without one so i think going 4 weeks with DD without a dummy is great! Deffo only keeping it to evenings tho, if i can help it.
