Hello all, disgraceful radio silence but Edward arrived by elective c-section (complete previa) on 13 November.
Just wanted to say RG that Edward didn't poo for 6 days and was prescribed a gylcerine suppository. Not particularly nice (for him as well as me I suppose) but it worked v. well... He then didn't poo for a further 5 days but managed one on his own today - and it was a bit of a poo tsunami. So long as they're still weeing and eating eagerly and not in discomfort and their tummies are soft, people seem not to be too bothered, although by the 6 day mark there was a bit of concern. And so long as the poo when it does arrive lookes like chicken tikka and isn't hard or dark, ie they're not constipated, hopefully all is well. Good luck with yours when it arrives .

Hi all.

RG - the gel pads are great, they're called feme pad, and come with a storage bag so you can keep them in the fridge withour covering them in food! Best present my mum gave me. Peeing in the shower also helps, and avoid using any products to clean the area, just water is fine.

Geek - I ended up in labour ward too, it's not as nice as Broadlands is it? But I suppose if you need to be there it's for the best. I ended up there with both of mine.

Pixie - your advice re positioning was really useful - I see what you mean about second-timers being used to feeding bigger babies, it's a real adjustment having to feed a newborn again. William's favourite boob is my left one, but he does feed fine from both, just needs a little persuading to go for the right one at times!

I've had a couple of good nights. William won't tend to settle until about 12, then will have a feed at around 1, then again at about 5 - four hours sleep in a row is a real treat! He's been really alert today so I'm hoping he'll have another good night. There's nothing worse than sleep deprivation, especially when you've got to spend the day with a 2 year old who seems to think that sleep is for wimps!

I had my final mw visit on Sunday, I was quite sad to say goodbye really, I've been so lucky to have her. She checked my bits and was very pleased with her repair job! Health visitor is coming tomorrow so I need to make the house look reasonable - housework has not been top of my list lately

RGPargy · 11/12/2007 22:49

I think my latch is wrong and Ellie is only sucking on the nipple, therefore not getting enough milk at every feed. That would explain why she's wanting to be fed every 30 minutes coz the poor little thing is hungry! I feel really upset that i've been starving her. The noises in her tummy are hunger pangs i think. I always thought it sounded like it but now i know that's what it was.

To top it off, DP has chicken pox now.

Hooray I can finally come over from the dark side...... Jack Henry was born on Monday 6:55pm weighing 7lb 8oz. I was eventually induced as I was 13 days overdue. Jack was born 6 hrs after my waters were broken, a very painful intense labour!!
I had a (fabulous) epidural but my blood pressure went crazy low, Jacks heart rate dropped very low and he was quickly delivered with that suction thingy which I can't remember the name of... oops! I thankfully didn't have any tears/stitches so I am feeling pretty comfortable, just tired!!

Well aren't I excited to be on this thread... posting 3 times! OOps!!

Forgot to add Jack is Bfeeding wonderfully and I am blissfully happy!!

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 12/12/2007 06:25

Ccongratulations Superloopy I'm so pleased everything's going well for you and Jack.

RGPargy - Poor you I bet a poorly DP is the last thing you need at the moment too ((hugs)). At least you know what was wrong with Ellie. Is she latching on any better now?

RGPargy · 12/12/2007 08:33

Super - Congratulations and welcome!!!

Iris - I wouldn't say her latch was any better, although i am trying to actively position her better but tbh i'm not sure i even know how. I'm so tired and exhausted (night number 3 of no sleep and constant feeding) that everything's a blur really lol. I put her in her car seat with the intention of trying to knock her out with a car ride at 3am but when i got to the car it was so frosty that i decided against risking going out in the slippery weather and just brought her back in again. She had fallen asleep by this time and stayed asleep for a whopping 30 minutes!!

sarahloumadam · 12/12/2007 09:36

Congrats and welcome to the postnatal thread Superloopy! Sweet name!

RG - has your mw watched Ellie latch on? If she is just latching onto your nipple it would be pretty painful and you would see little dimples in her cheeks. Maybe she is just having a growth spurt or establishing the milk supply. I had some fairly rough days and nights with Adam in the first week - his record was 2 hours+ feeding and his sleeping pattern was similar. I really hope you get some well-earned rest today and some reassurance from your mw asap. Is she coming to see you soon?

Iris - think you are right re the swaddling effect. Adam doesn't actually like being properly swaddled and does an escape act coupled with cute snuffling noises but the towel round the edge seems to comfort him and make him feel secure - so much so that he doesn't seem bothered about falling asleep in his mum's arms anymore . We have been having so many visitors that I haven't been getting much of a look in with cuddles and I am starting to glare at people and get twitchy when they hold onto him for too long! I haven't managed not to snatch him off anyone yet but I fear it is only a matter of time.

Going into town today, the DH wants to show him off to his work mates and I am going to attemt to get some xmas shopping done. I am staying at home and doing nowt tomorrow. Hope you all have a good day.

sarahloumadam · 12/12/2007 09:36

I mean I have managed not to snatch him...

RGPargy · 12/12/2007 12:26

Sarah - No the mw hasn't watched Ellie latch on, but observed her feed. She doesn't have dimples in her cheeks when she's sucking (lately, anyway) but looks like she's "chomping", IYSWIM. No pain from feeding at all and if she isn't on right, it does hurt so i remove her and latch her on again. MW said if Ellie still hasn't had a poo by today to ring back and she would come out and weigh her. Not sure that's going to help her have a poo, but hey!

fiona76 · 12/12/2007 14:02

Hi everyone. RG Do you pinch your nipple and shove it in ellies mouth? It sounds like you are latching fine if you weren't it would hurt. Has she lost much weight? I tried a new method last night of letting anabel cry for 5 mins (was horrible) then went in and picked her up and rocked her for 5 mins then put her down and she went straight to sleep. i was expecting to have to do it more but she wnet to sleep for 6 hours. Don't know if it will work again but it was a treat to catch up on sleep. I hope you can sort out that baby RG cause sleep deprivation is so hard.

I had a growth thing removed today it grew while I was pregnant in 3rd trimester so probably hormone related but I have a strong family history of melenoma so they wanted to get rid of it. The doc said if I get an infection I have to stop breast feeding. I bloody hope not any one know anything about this. I reckon I should be able to express off if I get an infection but not sure.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2007 14:20

knock knock.......

I'm a (RL) friend of littleoldme

just to let you know that her baby was born this morning by em c section. mum and baby well. I've not seen her yet, but can't wait to meet the new arrival

DanJARMouse · 12/12/2007 15:32

yay for LOM!

Cant wait to hear some details!

Hi all, not doing too badly here, Daniel had to have his heel prick test done again today as they didnt get enough blood last week It was horrible, he is just like me and wont give up blood easily, the MW had to do it the old fashioned way in the end and really nick his heel to get him to bleed - he cried so much it was horrible.

He was very over-tired earlier so I took him to bed and we both had a lovely 2hr nap - was bliss! He is sleeping ok at night, but only if he is next to me, cant get him to settle in the co-sleeper cot or anywhere but on the bed next to me.... not something I wanted to do, but what choice do I have - sleep vs no sleep and I know what wins! Only issue being is that my arms and neck are sore from laying in the same position for hours on end! Im usually such a wriggler in my sleep!

Putting the christmas tree up tonight - if I can find space for it! Not sure how im going to fit it in, but Im sure I will. Not really feeling the christmas spirit yet though - the thought that in 2 weeks time it will all be over is a little scary! Still so much to do!

LK2boyzma · 12/12/2007 15:46

Hi all,
I have been trying to catch up, but only made it to page 8. I hope everyone is getting on well.

After a long struggle, I think I have managed to post a photo of Tyler on my profile. He is feeding well having had loads of pain in the beginning. My boobs seem to fill up quickly and get very unconfortable, really sore actually. Does anyone else experience this?

LOM- Congrats to youand the long wait has come to an end at last

choudru · 12/12/2007 16:24

LK2 - Tyler looks very chilled out!

Great news about LOM I can't wait to hear the details and to meet her little man

Congrats to Superloopy as well - welcome on board!

JARM - that sounds awful - poor little thing and poor you!

Took Sara to get weighed today. She's only put 2oz on. The health visitor said it's normal for babies to put loads on one week and not much another so I'm trying not to let it bother me. I think because of DS being underweight because of him being a premmie, I am on the verge of getting a bit stressed about Sara slowing down in weight-gain.

I was advised to make sure I was eating well to ensure my milk is high in calories. Easier said than done though - once I have sorted out DS and Sara for feeds/changes/naps/baths etc, my own lunch seems to fall by the wayside.

I told HV Sara's feeding pattern - roughly every 3 hours, with a 6 hour gap at night and she said that was perfectly fine. So will stuff myself for a week and see if that improves things.

RG and others still suffering with sleepless nights - hang in there! I was in that situation 2 weeks ago. But over the past 4-5 days, Sara has really turned a corner. She sleeps for longer at night and during the day - thanks to her vibrating bouncer - she spaces out her feeds more, rather than feeding constantly. Your babies will be doing the same very soon!

I spoke to my mum yesterday about Sara having a crying session every evening. She said that a lot of babies do that and they grow out of it after a couple of weeks. I feel more able to cope with it if I know she grow out of the habit soon.

As for dummies - tried Sara a few times and she seems to be getting better at taking it. I waited until she was about 4 weeks. I don't really use it to be honest - just as a distraction during her evening crying sessions sometimes. I just need a method to be able to soothe her when she cries while we're out in a shop or somewhere.

I wouldn't use it with Ellie just yet RG if you're not sure how her latching on is yet. I think they officially recommend waiting until 6 weeks (or until breastfeeding fully established).

Bought my chrimbo cards yesterday so I'm going to spend a bit of time writing some out while the little ones nap.

Hi everyone!

CONGRATULATIONS LOM!!! So glad you have finally met your LO!!

Thanx for all the tips everyone, and so sorry to have been all doom and gloom the last day or so.

Good news tho. The mw came over today and weighed Ellie. She has put on 40g in two days, which is spot on as apparently they're meant to put on 20g per day. She said that she would come again on Saturday for another weigh in. The MW also spoke to her boss who said that as she had put on weight she wasn't too worried about the non-poo situation as she might just be a non-pooey baby, but would review again on Saturday. So once the mw had left i started to get Ellie dressed again. I checked her nappy (as usual) and guess what? SHE HAD DONE A BIG POO!!!!!!!!!! Never thought i'd be so happy to see a pile of sh*t lol.

On the BF front, the MW checked my latch and checked Ellie's suction etc and said that everything was absolutely fine and to just keep doing what i was doing. Incidentally, i fed her at about 7pm (after her poo) and she is STILL ASLEEP!! This time yesterday she'd had three feeds between now and 7pm so hopefully she'll settle better now her bowels are empty.

So all in all, i was obviously being a concerned paranoid over-tired wreck but it's paid off now. The only thing i'm worrying about now is poor DP with his chicken pox.......

And now for other news!

DJarm - heel pricks are horrid aren't they. I was surprised tho at how much Ellie didn't scream at hers. She made more fuss about being naked and being weighed than she did about the heel prick!

Not sure i'm in the Xmas spirit of things yet either. We haven't bought a single present between us yet so really need to get cracking and also put the tree up. With DP laid up in bed tho, it looks like the onus will be on me to do it, which is a shame because we wanted to do it together

LK - awww Tyler looks lovely - very chilled!! My boobs seem to be always full at the moment. The nipples get a bit sensitive, but not sore as such.

Choudru - glad you are finding a suitable comfort time for Sara and her dummy. Dont think i will try Ellie with one yet. Think i was just straw-grabbing last night. Glad Sara has got over her night time feeding frenzies too. I asked the mw about this and she said it goes back to caveman times. Apparently due to the risk of daytime predators, babies used to cluster feed all night to stock up as the risk of finding somewhere safe to feed during the day was quite minimal, what with all those dinosaurs and sabre toothed tigers about etc That's made me happier too about why Ellie is feeding like this at the mo. Glad it's only temporary!

Loopy - thanx for the numbers. Very useful to have! Sorry to hear that you are also in a sick household full of screamers. Cant believe you've done all your Christmas shopping!! Very of you!!! I've not even bought a single Christmas card yet!! Glad you are liking your sling. I have to confess to not even trying mine yet. I will try it at some point in the near future tho!

Right, i really should put something in the oven for dinner. I've been really neglectful of eating properly for the last week so i must make sure i eat better so i keep my milk nice and rich for Ellie.

Have a nice rest of the evening everyone!

Lots of love,

Much happier mummy RG.

loopyredangel · 12/12/2007 23:45

Have only got around to visiting, baby Jack Tyler was born on 2nd November at 12.32pm 9lb 4oz, quite small compared to my first DS. Was delivered by csection after 9 and a half hour labour. My scar tissue is still very painful, anyone else had a csection and still really sore 6 weeks on?

silkcushion · 13/12/2007 00:53

congrats on Ellie's big pile of s**t Rg

Megan has turned into a poo monster today!

Had another bad night but got 3 hrs sleep with her this morning. When I woke up she was looking at me and gave me a huge gummy smile. It makes it all worth it

Just changed another dirty nappy, doing a final feed and hoping little Meg might go to bed

RGPargy · 13/12/2007 01:06

Silk - i'm with you on the sleep thing!! Just given Ellie a feed so i'm now gonna try and have a kip on the sofa and hope that Ellie stays asleep for at least an hour!!

DanJARMouse · 13/12/2007 06:52

Hi all

shit day yesterday followed by a crappy night. My dream sleeper has turned into the never ending duracel bunny.... been bloody hard work and i am knackered.

hoping today will be better but cant be sure, guess i will be neglecting the girls again today and sleeping when daniel sleeps

RGPargy · 13/12/2007 07:45

Hi DJarm. dont feel bad - the girls will be fine. Just make sure you rest when Daniel rests. They all go through the phase of becoming nocturnal at some point or other but hopefully it only lasts a few days.
