Anabel has also been cluster feeding in the evenings. The night before last she went until 2am adn then woke every 3 hours but last night she slept from 11.30 until 7 I still woke at 3.30 ready to feed her and then sprayed milk all over the bed.

Those havin trouble with wind try a teaspoon full of cooled boiled water I know it sounds weird but they give good burps after. Also i heard fennel seeds can help not used these myself yet though.

ChocolateHobnob · 10/12/2007 17:47

Hi all

Nbg - Ethan sounds lovely! And don't desert us!

Choudru, you sound like you're doing really well.

RG and Silk - my sympathies, been there, done that, know how it feels, and have resorted to taking out car in middle of night to get DD to sleep! Oh dear. However she seems better at the mo - touch wood - she is napping better by day and sleeping better by night. Oh and last night was a sleepathon! Little insomniac went to bed at 11 and didnt wake up till 6!!!! How good is that?! Sadly I did wake up from 3 onwards wondering why she wasnt awake and being paranoid Mummy sitting up in bed and peering into the Moses basket neurotically. And when I got up my breast pads were soaked, I had cannon ball breasts! but never mind, she slept through.
We went to register her this morning and took her into work to meet mine and DH's colleagues (we work in the same place, but different sections) and they loved her and she got more pressies!

For anyone struggling I recommend the Fisherprice swing... The swing is wonderful. Rebecca does fall asleep in it - more catnaps than long sleeps but when she isnt asleep she still loves it and it gives me a chance to have lunch etc!

Hugs to all and LOM - I miss you too and I know how induction feels, and how being so late feels, I really do, and I see why you're avoiding Mnet but if you do read this then we are missing you and dying to see you here very soon sweetie!

Lizzie - I assumed it was wind but now i'm not so sure. I dont think it's because she's a cuddle-monster.

Ellie hasn't had a poo since Saturday morning and when she screams i can hear her tummy making all sorts of noises, but nothing happens. I mentioned it to the mw today and she said if Ellie hasn't had a poo by tomorrow afternoon, to give the hospital a call who will then send out a mw to have a look at her. She said that her tummy wasn't distended or painful to touch or anything so that's something at least. Ellie has lost 6% of her birth weight. She now weighs 7lb 14oz. I know it's normal for them to lose weight in their first week so i'm not too concerned. She's being weighed again on Saturday and i have been advised to feed her at least every three hours so that's what i'll be doing. I was also told that if i feed her more it might encourage her bowels to open.

Choc - i know what you mean re the peering into the basket. I'm always doing it!!

Choudru - great idea re the advanced bookings!!

Loopy - wish i had the courage to co-sleep with Ellie but i'm so paranoid i'll squash her or she'll fall out of the bed!

Pixie - Sorry DD2 hasn't put on the weight you were hoping for.

DanJARMouse · 10/12/2007 21:48

RGP - daniel didnt poo for just over 24hrs and then wow - you should have seen the explosion... just so you are prepared!

Re sleeping - we are having trouble getting Daniel to sleep anywhere but on the bed next to me, snuggled into my breast! Think its my fault for feeding him lying down, i then fall asleep so he just stays there - i wake up with boob hanging out and he is snuggled up to it! Got a lovely co-sleeper bassinet though, and really want him to sleep in it, so will make more of an effort tonight - if i can keep my eyes open!

He has been a little feed monster today, have felt like a dairy cow, but he has now been sleeping for about an hour so guess he is full.... until later! Gave him a bath in order it might wake him up a bit to feed all evening and then sleep all night, but nay, he just fed and went to sleep again!!!

Pixie - hope you are ok sweetheart, will be thinking of you x

choudru · 10/12/2007 23:06

JARM - Baths always make my kids extra sleepy.

RG - Sara sometimes goes ages without a poo but then blasts it out as so delicately described by JARM

Was going to post properly but Sara crying so will log in tomorrow.

Hope LOM is getting on with things and producing her LO.

Nighty night.

RGPargy · 11/12/2007 06:33

Morning

LOM - hope you are ok sweetie.

DJarm - HOw did the basinette thing go?

Well it's a couple of hours short of 3 days since Ellie had a poo. I know that if she had one, i wouldn't be spending the entire night for the last 2 nights consoling her and nursing her as she crunches up in pain. I've spent the night downstairs on the sofa with Ellie in her basket next to me all night tonight because i thought it would be easier if i'm prepared to be up all night, rather than getting into bed and assuming i would actually get some sleep! I think i managed to get about 30 minutes sleep all night so i am thoroughly knackered and likely to burst into tears at any moment.

Will get the mw to come out and do something today. She must be able to give her a suppository or something???

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 11/12/2007 08:06

RG - he lack of sleep makes everything doubly hard doesn't it Have you tried drinking orange juice or eating prunes? (to transfer the bowel opening tendencies of them to her through your milk)

Elliot (along with all the others) seems in agony with wind every evening and rarely brings much up so I end up just feeding and feeding until he falls asleep. It's horrible to see them inpain isn't it.

Bloody cold here today. Think I'll give going out a miss as Elliots snuffly and has been coughing(DS will just have to dance to boogie beebies instead)

silkcushion · 11/12/2007 08:06

rg i'm right there with you. knackered, bleary eyed and tearful.
dh nearly got his head kicked in when he pointed out she went down for him at 8pm no problem at all. i managed not to say anything but i'm not sure how. almost too tired to be annoyed.

hope ellie has a poo soon. i gave megan cool boiled water last night. it brought lots of wind immediately and a big poo at 2am (which she never does in the night). Guess it's worth a try. if you don't want to use a bottle try feeding from a cup - she'll lap it up like a kitten

good luck

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 11/12/2007 08:32

RG - another thought (sat here pumping like daisy ) stroking her tummy (clockwise) can help - esp in a warm bath. Or gently massaging the soles of her feet (clockwise too) hope she poos soon.

silk - my DH does that too it's a phrase taken from the book 'how to induce inadequacy and make your DW hate you' though in all fairness, blokes don't get quite so anxious and our LOs sense it

RGPargy · 11/12/2007 09:17

Iris - DP mentioned drinking prune juice last night (yuk!) but i didn't think the content filtered through to the milk, only the flavour?? Thanx for the stroking tips. I'll deffo give that a try. I will try and get her into a bathtime routine too as when i gave her a bath last time she was out like a light. She's had a tiny poo this morning (more like a large skid mark lol) so i'm going to carry on feeding her as much as possible. I think that maybe i wasn't feeding her enough. Bad mummy!!

Silk - how typical of DH to have no problem! Hope you get some rest today too.

I was meant to be taking DS to a job agency today and also the cat to the vets but i'm so tired i'm going to send DS on a bus and cancel the vets. It's only a bloomin' check up anyway which no doubt they'll charge me another consultation fee for! I'm sure the cat will be fine for a few days!

Gonna crash on the sofa soon and hope that Ellie actually sleeps today. She must be really tired too, poor little mite.

DanJARMouse · 11/12/2007 10:03

Bassinet didnt happen, i slept downstairs with him snuggled up to my boob all night - although didnt get a lot of sleep... DH and I stayed up til nearly 2am watching episodes of House!

RGP - Hope Ellie sorts herself out for you today. If you get worried, phone the MW xx

RGPargy · 11/12/2007 10:13

Thanx DJarm. I was on the sofa all night too - literally!!!

Minicooper · 11/12/2007 10:40

Hello, all, first posting on ante-natal - just haven't made it onto the computer til now. RG, I sympathise hugely - Eva is exactly same (re settling, not re poo!) She wouldn't settle at all last night - went down (thank goodness) for 2 hrs between 10.30 and 12.30, so got some sleep, but then just cried all night - presumably wind, but soooo hard to see them in pain. What do you do with a baby with wind???? She's on infacol now and I do burp her after every feed, but am pretty much at the end of my tether. Also keep getting in a state thinking that DH is going to give up on his 2 crying girls - what a thing to come home to! Any ideas anyone?

RGPargy · 11/12/2007 10:54

Hi Mini and welcome!!

I think so far we've all had the sleepless crying nights haven't we?!! You'd never think that my little angel (who, incidentally has been fast asleep for the past 2 hours) could keep me up for 2 nights on the trot! I also started to give her Infacol but tbh, i'm not sure it's making much of a difference. I do need to buy another bottle tho because i forgot to put the lid on, then went to grab the top of the bottle quickly and the whole bottle flew across the floor, leaving a trail of Infacol everywhere!

I think also that your sleep deprivation is what's causing you to get paranoid about DH leaving you and your DDs!! He probably knows how hard it is for you so dont beat yourself up about crying babies - it's what they do!!

I would suggest that you cat nap on the sofa as and when you can (if you can) so that you can recoup mentally and physically. It's amazing how much better you can feel after just an hour's napping. Could you get DD1 looked after for a couple of hours or does she go to play group or anything? (sorry, dont know DD1's age). That way you could at least get a bit of rest. Chin up - i'm a blubbering wreck too.

Minicooper · 11/12/2007 11:08

Hee, hee, RG, have only one DD - the second crying girl is me!!!! Think you're right on paranoia brought on by lack of sleep tho! Eva's normally an angel by day but not settling at all today - think we both miss her dad! I loved paternity leave - a bit like a honeymoon but with a lot less sex and sleep!

sarahloumadam · 11/12/2007 11:27

Big hugs to all of you re sleepless nights, nothing worse! We have had some relatively settled nights recently so I am just anxiously awaiting the next growth spurt! No advice except to say do NOTHING, have a shower, put on some fresh pjs and stay on the sofa all day (easy for me to say - I've only got the one DC )

The towel in the moses basket does seem to be working a treat. I have also noticed that if he is fussing and I turn a dim light on he settles - could he be scared of the dark? Bless!

Adam looked like he was getting a bit of a sore bum so gave him some fresh air time today. Of course he just weed everywhere. So far today he has weed into a drawer (beneath his changing station!), on dad's hand and all over his changing mat and muslin when airing his bottom.

How's Daniel's skin JARM? Adam's is improving slowly, we tried grapeseed oil but in the end the best thing just seems to be plain water.

Think we are going to pick up a xmas tree today. My parents are coming to stay next week and don't feel prepared at all. They are fairly chilled but I am worried they are going to be bored - staying for 10 days!

fiona76 · 11/12/2007 13:00

Anabel was screaming until 4am last night. DH ended up in spare bed and she slept beside me in bed from 4-7am. DH ready to sell her I think

Going to buy baby whisperer today like the sound of that, and go to boots for dummy- are they a good idea? never thought i would use them but kinda of desparate.

RG ananbel didn't poo for 3 days after birth my mum put vaseline around her bum with a cotton bud don't know if it helped but she pooed eventually.

DanJARMouse · 11/12/2007 13:11

Fiona - Daniel wont take a dummy!! We have tried and tried, but he wants me or nothing! Cant complain really as we have only just got DD1 off hers and she is 3yrs old!

HV has been in this morning, weighed Daniel - he has regained his birth weight and an additional 2oz so is now 8lbs 6oz - 8oz gain in 1 week, so am very proud of myself. Im sorry to gloat when I know a lot of you are having problems, but its a big step for me, as the girls were both bottle fed so could tell they were getting enough etc. Thinking of all you who are struggling xxx

Am off for a nap now as DH has taken Daniel to the library - so I can sleep and Daniel will fall asleep in the car seat! He needs to - was a little tinker last night and hasnt really slept all morning!

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 11/12/2007 13:20

sarahlou - glad the towel round Adam is working. It's amazing what a bit of swaddling does isn't it. I suppose it makes them think they're still being held. It's the only way I can get Elliot to settle at night;swaddling and feed, feed, feed. I really am starting to feel like a milk machine and had forgotton just how much I leak (thank goodness for breast shells - I got over 1/2 ounce off one boob in leaks this morning )

Trying to get some pre Xmas cleaning done at the mo before putting the decorations up. The washing I'm generating is ridiculous (and I'm starting to wonder whether I'm developing some kind of comulsion

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 11/12/2007 13:23

or compulsion even

Ready · 11/12/2007 13:41

I have tracked down GeekinPigTails here, I think, and hope... - Geek do come and see us on the old thread won't you - Hope everything is going well? I started a thread in search of you, but it inevitably got lost. Thinking of you. Ready x

RGPargy · 11/12/2007 14:12

Mini - ooooh right, sorry! Sleep deprivation messing with my brain there! Paternity leave sounds good. Unfortunately DP is self employed so only took off Weds, Thurs & Fri from work but was off sick yesterday too.

Sarah - some sound advice there re doing nothing! It's really not worth trying to do stuff at this stage coz it just makes you frustrated if you cant do what you set out to do.

Fiona - I've got a couple of dummies here but i'm so reluctant to use them. I'm worried that it'll cause nipple confusion as i'm breastfeeding. Anyone had any experience of that with a dummy? Re the pooing - Ellie has actually passed three meconium nappies - it's just the normal stuff she's not doing!

DJarm - great news re Daniel's weight! That's a healthy gain in a week! Ellie has lost some of her birth weight and now weighs 7lb 14oz instead of 8lb 6oz. She's getting weighed again on Saturday so hopefully she'll have put some of that back on.

Iris - i might try swaddling at night time. She's fine during the day!!! I dont yet feel like a milk machine and only tend to leak out of one side and then it's only if i'm braless and feeding! I'm ok if i've got a bra on. How odd!
