Wheely bug not "but"

scarybee · 16/10/2007 21:15

Oh blimey. Am I a really bad mother if I say I haven't even thought about xmas and was seriously considering just getting wrapping paper?!

Those peek-a-blocks look good though. I've never heard of them. I wonder if I can get them in my local woolies?

Much as I'd love to come next week, I can't swap days at work or at nursery sadly. Have a glass of wine for me!

Oh yes and mossy I do work in the City but am neither glamorous or high-flying (ask foxy or dolly or diva!). I work in marketing at an accountancy firm and at the moment I don't even have a job title!

I am quite proud that I have managed to go to work 2 days in a row without sick on my clothes though.

spongecake · 16/10/2007 21:29

and mossy- v glad re your dh, sounds nice. is bertie still going to mil once a week?

im here

eidsvold · 16/10/2007 22:39

christmas - dd3 is getting a shape sorter, a soft worm night light that plays tunes when you press its stomach, a baby book with lullaby cd,
and a car buddy book - attaches to the seatbelt like a protector. She will also get new pjs - tradition in our house that everyone gets a pair of pjs. Bought her a bib the other day for her first christmas and I will need to get her stocking. THe other stuff is already bought and put away. Possibly some things to fill her stocking.

Bethoo - those sites that evenhope/covenhope suggested are great. I spent hours madly researching using ancestory.co.uk during the two week free trial - it is just too expensive to pay to use it when I have to convert from aussie dollars to uk pounds.

I also had some birth certificates to start with - my fathers and grandmother's and great grandmother's.

it is easy to go on the wrong path especially when using the census data at times - you really have to check who you have is the right one.

Some of the other sources I have used for aussie relies are cemetery/grave searches, national archives, general google etc searches.

eidsvold · 16/10/2007 22:41

have peek a blocks from dd2 that will be brought out for dd3 as well. Crate of dd2's baby toys with the odd one from dd1 as well. In fact dd3's favourite cuddly that she cuddles to go to sleep is a boots clown with teether ring on hand and chewy feet called Benjy that dd1 had to start with. Funy enough - neither dd1 or 2 were as taken with Benjy as dd3 is. Her little face lights up when you give him to her.

morocco · 16/10/2007 23:02

omg xmas talk already - hadn't even thought about dd, prob a car boot job poor love, seems pointless getting anything new, we have so much stuff already. wheelybugs look so great but i know the boys would monopolise then wreck it .
dr who fans alert!! boots (esp internet) are selling 2 remote control daleks and a cyberman for £15 plus you can combine on their buy 2 get 1 free offer so it's only a tenner. that's xmas sorted then at our house

c'mon ladies, check those babies tongues!! i'm glad some others are not tongue poker outers either. i was vaguely wondering about a mild tongue tie but can't be bothered booking gp unless sure - do they do anything anyway?? bethoo, did you ask to have it cut or did the gp suggest it? i guess it was quite noticeable? i've always wondered about dd's tongue cos we never get to see it really but maybe she is just v polite!!

piffle, glad you're back

Mossy · 17/10/2007 06:44

So tired, been up since about two with poorly Bertie who has been refusing to sleep, so I've come downstairs for a coffee and a porridge for some renewed energy. I think his nose is just too stuffy to feed... any ideas, I was thinking of expressing a bottle to see if that was any easier for him to take?

Piffle glad you're back, why did you flounce, please tell me it wasn't anything any of us said?

Morocco I think it's actually quite difficult to find a GP who will snip a tongue tie, I know lots of people at our bf support group who've had problems... I know there's someone in Chester who will do it though, but if it's not causing feeding problems it probably is pretty mild, I would have thought.

Sazzy that's great Elliot's saying Mama!! How cute!!

I'm just figuring out how much longer I can ignore Bertie grizzling.

Sponge we're doing it once a fortnight now, much easier on me... when it was once a week it was ridiculous having to express that much milk.

Bugger the grizzle is now a wail... will have to go up again.

Rosyspookily · 17/10/2007 09:24

Hasan wouldn't perform and copy me sticking my tongue out but I have seen him stick his out and blow raspberries.
Not said mama yet (look forward to that, it's so sweet) he says Ga! alot though.

Can hardly keep up, but I've been reading and empathising with everyone.

Piffle · 17/10/2007 09:29

Mossy no way anyone from here!
It was a dare thread from someone on Bad Mothers Club (to post on MN)about taking your kid to A+E etc
I was just a little sensitive but it was damned rude.

But anyway tops to hear your dh has returned to himself again - let's hope it continues...

Am shamed by you who work and go to the gym and research family trees and undertake entensive activities...

I'm so crap

Oh dd is still off, she is fine but was getting ehr ready for school and was combing her hair and thought, oh she feels a bit warm... took her temp tis only 39.6

So calpol and bed rest, you'd never know though she is quite happy although very weary..

Piffle · 17/10/2007 09:31

oh tongues
Finns comes out MILES he sticks it out when concentrating on a task.. like taking out my hairclips

Am off to curtain twitch, our neighbours moved out yesterday and the new neighbours who bought the house apparently have SIX daughters...... they move in today...

bethoo · 17/10/2007 09:42

Morocco - it was spotted when i was still at the hospital by a midwife, i personally think that is why his body temp and blood sugar was so low (had to be kept in) as he obviously could not latch on properly. once the mid wife cut it though his temp and blood sugar was normal though they denied it had anything to do with it but i have my thoughts! it was quite a thick one they said. it attched his tongue to his bottom gum so it could not basically move. some children have tongue tie that does not bother them, my friend has it and she just cant stick her tongue out as far to lick an ice cream!

kittywitch · 17/10/2007 10:18

Piffle, wow 6 daughters, that's A LOT of hormones !

Mossy, sorry you've been kept awake, hope Bertie gets better soon.

brill news about your dh, lets hope the good mood continues .
It's snot/cough/temp, asthma city here. It has been on and off for a month now, the rounds of illnesses never seem to stop.
I find the nights the hardest there is always someone awake, either wetting the bed, or crying, or both!
Dd3 is so full of mucus that she's sicking it up
Ronnie is nearly crawling now, he can balance on both knees and sometimes shuffle a little way forward on them, but mostly falls flat on his little nose.
He doesn't want to sleep during the day at all but now I force him to go to bed. I put him there, he screams, then he sleeps for 1/2 an hour, better than nothing I suppose.
He's certainly the most difficult baby I've come across. I've a feeling things will improve once he's on the move.

Hello to everyone else

foxensteinscreature · 17/10/2007 10:30

Oh sorry to here about LOs being ill - its that time of year isn't it?

DS1 vommed all over the school playground last night so I have kept both kids off school today - meaning I can be a Waynetta Slob Had a fab lie in until .30am - what rare bliss.

Morocco does your DD BF OK? Just thinking about the poss mild tongue tie

Diva - come back (soon to be )Misses - stop playing hard to get!!

Scareybee - how does it feel being back at work then?

foxensteinscreature · 17/10/2007 10:30

9.30am lie in not .30am

kittywitch · 17/10/2007 10:36

God, I'm all pre men AGAIN, keep forgetting about it, feel like a swollen bag of water (wibbly wobbly emoticon))

scarybee · 17/10/2007 10:44

Sorry mossy - meant to say how delighted I am to hear your DH is back to normal. Long may it continue

Elliot doesn't really poke his tongue out very much but he did go through a raspberry blowing phase. He doesn't copy me but he doesn't really copy me doing anything though.

Fox - you know it's not too bad this being back at work lark. It's very nice to drink a hot drink in peace I must say

Sorry the babes are ill. We seem to be getting over the worst of it now except E still has a hacking cough. Mossy - have you tried tying a muslin to the corner of Bertie's cot with a few dots of Olbas Oil on it? I find that is quite helpful. Also there is the snot-sucker which is invaluable (if rather disgusting).

ps I feel honour-bound to point out that Elliot isn't saying mama with any sense of what it means - it's just his syllable of the week!

pps Hello Diva!

covenhope · 17/10/2007 18:44

Mine sticks her tongue right out (though not usually copying me)

Mossy have you tried rubbing snufflebabe (like Vick) on Bertie's chest and back? DD couldn't feed last week because she was all bunged up and that seemed to help her.

She's doing a "miaow" now DH says it doesn't sound like miaow at all, but she makes the noise after me so that is clearly her intention.

It's his turn for bath duty today because I've done it every day since last Friday. Had to laugh watching him undress her as she was in lots of layers- bodysuit, top, skirt, knickers, socks and cardigan. She thought it was funny too. Now he's arguing with her because she won't stay on her back to have her nappy on (and if he'd done anything for her at all this week he would know that )

Mossy · 17/10/2007 21:35

Evenhope, yes, I went and bought some Snufflebabe today, seems to have helped a little... although we'll see, last night I was up from about two in the morning as Bertie was only catnapping as he wasn't feeding so well.

I put him to bed at half seven so the proof of the pudding will be whether I get to write this message!

Sazzy I didn't think about the Olbas oil, but hopefully the snufflebabe will do the same trick?

Kitty you know, I think that about Bertie too, that sometimes his crying is due to frustration that he can't move around by himself yet? I know that sounds mad, but he is so much happier when he's in his sling especially on long dog walks that I wonder if his inability to move himself around is why he is so fussy?

Piffle I hope your dd is back to normal soon, poor love.

Can't believe all of you are talking about Xmas already. Mil has bought dh and I a leather settee for the front room, we went to Ikea today to order it. She is buying Bertie lots of Night Garden toys and books and the like.

I have no idea what I'm getting anyone. I might cop out and do a calender of Bertie photos for people... cheap and cute. Now I just need some month-related outfits!!

I need to start looking for a job soon as we need me to be in one by January. Arrgh scary stuff!!!

OP posts:
morocco · 17/10/2007 22:12

bleurgh kitty, i hate it when the kids are all snotty and pukey. emily did a good job of covering the bed/bedroom in puke last night, yuck.

thanks for the tongue tests!! it's good to know some kids do and some are not so bothered. dd feeds fine now but i had loads of probs with cracked nips the first month and she used to make those clicky sounds for months, you know the ones they say are 'bad latch' noises? anyhow, i guess that's why i thought i'd ask on here not gp cos if it's not affected her weight gain/latch it seems a bit pointless. i only started thinking of it again on this bf course i've started.

am knackered from work today, 2 nursery classes with drive to and from creche either end, run run run run run. and still late for everything.

foxensteinscreature · 17/10/2007 22:24

Rosy - thanks, it does help motivate me when there is eye candy there! i do not have telly so it takes up an hour of my afternoon. i can only train if little man lets me!

foxensteinscreature · 18/10/2007 10:34

Bethoo - I eny you being able to g to the gym specially as its full offit men

Talking of which I didn't get much slept last night. Before you al start sniggering, Monti woke at 4am I resorted to putting Maisy on for him and lying there like a jelly, to knackered to move.

I'm working from home this morning (as you can see) so I was able to get acouple of hour's sleep between 5.30am-7.30am

LOL Rosy - I did a PGcy test yesterday! I had a false alarm as it was negative. I was half relieved half dissappointed!!
