rosy-a beetle!that beats the cardboard in the nappy of Elsie.i keep finding the cats chasing beetles and other things around the house and i think to myself 'i really ought to give this place a proper clean'.but it stays in my head and doesnt get done.

bethoo-how old are you if you dont mind me asking?it doesnt matter how old a man is as long as he's over 18,surely?

fox/mossy-i think i would like to do the psychology access course with a view to doing the nursing training, but i would have to be right in the head first.hahaha.

muppetisacat · 26/11/2007 18:45

hello everyone... not much time to post... hope everyone is doing okay

was the beetle alive? I wonder what was going through it's mind as it got chewed!

fitfox · 26/11/2007 19:41

Well Monti has worked out how to turn my mobile phone on!!

Snoo - just realised I cannot spell psychology . It sounds very rewarding and interesting anyhow.

Muppet - beetle was probably thinking - help I've been swallowed by a toothless monster!!

Evenhope - your description of you DD sounds exactly like Monti's typical night. He has four teeth bursting through at the top atm - they are just breaking the skin. He beat me up for 2 hours last night - pullng my hair, climbing on me etc and kept making squeaky noises so I could't even hear Cranford properly I could find the Medised either

kiwibella · 26/11/2007 20:11

Rosy that lucky beetle!!

It's a tough decision evenhope... what you can afford vs what you can afford to lose out on. That's what swayed me in to giving up work anyways. I have no idea how we will live once I am finished but, for my sanity, I don't care .

Maybe your dd will settle once she has started at nursery. Surely they have some sort of routine to their day? Hope that you get some rest.

Same Foxy - these teeth are so awful for our babies.

Mossy... a naming ceremony is a great excuse for a gathering . Doesn't have to be a boozy event and everyone can bring a plate. Our biggest expense was hiring a venue!

Piffle · 26/11/2007 21:59

helo all was avoiding coming on here until I was sure I would not moan...

But news of the Finnster
Standing up in his cot... Ho hum, yep so down to the bottom level we go asap.

He had decent night last night, but is bad again tonight - he has 1/4 teeth through... is off food as well except the kind I provide - am thoroughly enjoying that aspect as he has been a bit ambivalent of late.
He is crawling much better and pulled himself up on his sister today.. nearly pulled her over bless she is only 6 kgs heavier than him!
Right off to read posts, but in advance
hope all dh's are being angels
Hope that no babies are ill or mummies either
that all employers are being obedient and considerate

And that every baby sleeps through the night...

okay well you know

MrsSlocomb · 26/11/2007 22:17

I've got bloody mastitis AGAIN wtf?
Sorry, hello all
I've sort of been lurking, it's been busy here, bugs , snot, etc.

Mossy · 27/11/2007 07:30

Mrs S you poor thing are you going to get some ABs from the Dr?

Piffle clever Finn! Scary though too! Hope your Sinusitis gets better soon.

Rosy I was pmsl at the thought of that beetle! Now that is really baby-led weaning!

Evenhope it's a tough decision. We're in a similar boat here except that - luckily I suppose (said grudgingly) - we have mil to take Bertie so at least we know that okay he might get the odd sip of tea (grr) he is definitely with someone who adores him and will dote on him. I would much prefer something p-t and I do think we can afford it (if we just stop with the flippin' organic everything and posh wine) but dh doesn't.

So I'm applying for a mixture of full and p-t stuff and if I just happen to get a really good p-t job well.....

Snoo I think you would be a good nurse. Although I've heard that to be a maternity nurse you don't need any qualifications at all why not try that one? Oh hang on, no, you're overqualified as you have children.

Foxy lol at you using your free time to come on MN

Bethoo have you been getting much more sleep then? We have been decorating the front room for Bertie and intend it to be finished some time in the next few weeks; I am going to try and see if he settles better but if not...

Oh Horlicks he is wailing I had better go and get him...

OP posts:
Rosylily · 27/11/2007 07:32

It still makes my skin crawl but the full beetle saga started the day before with ds1 clobbering it with his shoe. It was a massive 1 inch thing.

I told him to get rid of it but did he?...no! So when Hasan spat out the beetle and we realised what it was- ds1 was a picture of horrified disgust and guilt.

Anyway, I feel sick now just thinking about it.

Been up since 5.15am with ds2. I tried to go back to sleep but have been tortured ever since by various demands. Feeling grumpy!

Hope everyone is doing okay this morning.

Mossy · 27/11/2007 07:36

Kiwibella I do think Bertie ought to have a naming ceremony... as you say it needn't cost the earth.

Bertie is still not showing any signs of crawling... he much prefers to sit up and play, doesn't like being laid on his back or front really, loves being held up to stand and has really strong legs...

Is that quite normal at seven months or should I be trying to "hothouse" him into crawling?

OP posts:
Rosylily · 27/11/2007 08:04

Normal Mossy. Don't forget Bertie is a month younger than most of the other babies too.

LunarSea · 27/11/2007 09:43

Mossy - of Toby's contemporaries at the baby groups I've taken him too, there's only been one other who has been crawling by 7 months, and about 20 who haven't been. More like 8-9 months seems normal, so you've got plenty of time yet.

Toby's decided that this house isn't big enough - for him to go very far with his walker without running into a wall or som efurniture that is! So we've started taking him out for walks up the road (nice safe quite cul de sac) with it! He absolutely loves all the attention he gets from the neighbours/other children.

Not much action on the teeth front, or on the growing hair front here though, so he still looks like a baby rather than a mini toddler.

Had an appointment through for his 8 month check the other day. Have any of you had it done already? What do they do these days, as I'm sure it's probably different now than it was with ds1 5 years ago. Then they did a hearing test at 8 months which consisted of 2 hvs, 1 in front and 1 behind, and they had to see if the baby reacted to noises behind them. ds1 was so intersted in what the person behind him was doing that he wouldn't watch the one in front, so they kept failing him on his hearing. Cue referal to audiology dept, who said their was nothing wrong with his hearing except being too intelligent to fall for the distraction test

Mossy · 27/11/2007 09:57

Lunar pmsl @ Toby not falling for the trick!

Rosy / Lunar glad you think it's normal, I did think it probably was but all these crawling babies... plus, he can roll... but rarely does it whereas my friends' babies when they were his age absolutely loved their new skill and practised it constantly!

OP posts:
Piffle · 27/11/2007 10:03

mossy it happens almost overnight
and they cotton on very quickly...
I saw a pic of another one of our march babies standing in her cot the other week and though holy moly, thank god it's not us...
so what a couple of weeks later and hello to Finn the cot stander.

And trust me, the later they learn to crawl.. the bloody better AFAIC :

bethoo · 27/11/2007 10:07

Morning everybody,

Snoo - i am 30. dilema really as this guy is cute and mature for his age and seems interested though my dp is trying to make it work and i do not know how i feel about him anymore. i am trying and to be honest nothing has happened with the cable guy though i do enjoy his company, it is a breath of fresh air. we actually talk unlike dp who just moans and criticizes everything!!!

MOssy - since moving Hayden into his own room he more or les sleeps through the night, he wakes, has a grumble but is back asleep in seconds. naturally when i put him in the cot he screams but gradually he screams less. to be honest i miss him in bed so if he wakes up at 6 i bring him into my bed and give him a feed. have been temepted to wake him up just to get him into my bed!

Lunar- i had my 8 month baby test and it may be just me but everytime i come away i feel inadequate as a mother as they always point out how underweight etc he is as if i am purposely starving him!! they hold out toys and observe how he holds them and if he can pass them from hand to hand, ask if he is saying mama and dada (my lo was not!). and all the usual measurements, head circ, length and weight. naturally i have a review as he was below the centiles! good luck.

i hope those who are looking for work get a nice job like mine. i am currently at work and i have done the work and now have 4 hours to spare!!

DeathBySnooSnoo · 27/11/2007 16:56

lunar-they dont do hearing tests at 8 months where i am any more.

dd2 had an 8 month check but my HV was ok then.i havent had any contact with my HV this time,i think we've been forgotten

bethoo-i am 30 and dh is 24.it sounds like you dont really have many feelings left for your dp(especially if you are looking at other men as potential boyfriend material)so why not just end it and have some fun?

Elsie is also teething, she is off her milk again.another advantage of bf they dont tell you about-boobies are alot softer than silicone(unless you are jordan and they are made of it lol)and more comfy to drink from when teething.

mossy-i dont think you need to 'encourage' babies to crawl.i think you should just leave them to do things at their own pace, like with BLW.Elsie rolls to get where she wants, with a bit of commando crwling now and again.she is way quicker than any of my others to start getting about.

i am far too over qualified to be a maternity nurse, although from what i hear my a-level in performing arts could be quite useful for that job

muppetisacat · 27/11/2007 17:46

started AIBU thread 'cos i am at ASDA advertising

also, 'cos think maybe i shouldn't be pro-longing the old Father Christmas idea...

... people are saying my ds1 (7) is prolly too old to believe anyway...

MrsSlocomb · 27/11/2007 18:10

muppet, my 9 ad 8 year old boys still firmly believe in father christmas. I tell them that he only comes to those who believe and how sad for all the children who don't have that wonderful belief.

fitfox · 27/11/2007 20:24

hOW ARE YOU mRSs? Ooops - how is your lump? I hate the way mastitis suddeny looms out of nowhere

Snoo - LOL at performing arts and maternity nursing. Sounds like you are having serious thoughts though about what you want to be doing in a couple of years time

Moss - I'd recommend p/t - f/t is quite stressful as you feel you are squeezing everything in in your domestic life, just so you can sit in work all day. I love my reduced hours long may they continue (helped by lodger income I must admit). Have to revew with my Boss in March but am determined not to get press ganged into f/t again until I am ready.

Lunar - love your little Toby!! Thanks for the description of the check up - haven't had Monti's done yet...'cos I forgot

Monti hs 4 new teeth today hurrah - he sleptvery well last night. He's crawling vey fast with those fat ittle legs pumping around the house and loves to pull himself up and look smug He loves chasing DS1

spongecake · 27/11/2007 20:33

my lo is wide awake laying on the floor waving toys about. . he is normally asleep at 7.30 so am hoping this is a one off!

snoo snoo, agree you would be fab doula or maternity nurse.. is that same as midwife? what about a teacher though? you can go to uni or do open university like me. i just thought well i will be older, so i might as well be older with a degree

personally would hate to do anything councelly, would get too depressed i think.

bethoo, lol at you sneaking lo back into your bed

piffle, your new plans sound really great, lucky you!

there is a great book called "what colour is my parachute" if anyone needs some help with a change of career or what to do. it should be in any library. i like the excercises myself!

mossy, why don;t you just start your own recruitment co from home? seriously!

DeathBySnooSnoo · 27/11/2007 23:28

sponge-the maternity nurse thing was a joke/bitchy comment about the likes of claire verity.i think they are things rich people employ to look after newborn babies.i couldnt be a doula or anything like that,i dont particularly like children or babies, plus i have developed a phobia of pregnant ladies since having Elsie.

i never found it depressing when i was working at mind.it was fun most of the time, although i often felt more like one of the gang than one of the staff

Rosylily · 28/11/2007 06:57

career for snoosnoo

TheBlonde · 28/11/2007 07:52

Hi all
Sorry for lack of posting I do pop by occassionally and see what's going on

at the beetle tale

not much going on here, DD is crawling now but commando style. She and DS are interacting much more now and he enjoys making her giggle

had a rare night out last night so feel distinctly hungover today - I am such a lightweight these days

I have booked the 8 mth check having not seen the HV since about 8 weeks. Make sure you get the free books

bethoo · 28/11/2007 12:57

Snoo - i do have feelings for dp, but as you know he was a b to me during the pregnancy and it is only after recently when i told him ot sling his hook that suddenly he realises that he loves me which makes it all the more difficult to leave him as he really is trying but i feel as though i cant believe his sincerity after the past. but give him his dues he is trying! i suppose i am bored with the usual routine we have! this other guy i have only known a few days since i got Virgin! i doubt it will ever get serious, just as the good occasional companion i suppose. i just enjoy his company and am not ready ot jeopardise what i have with dp, does that make sense? i know that some may think iam being unfaithful but surely not if there is no intimacy? Am i being selfish?

bethoo · 28/11/2007 12:58

i would not want to go into the AIBU threads as no doubt i would get called everything under the sun and be judged by many who do not even know me or my circumstances or maybe i know they are right!!!
