Piffle · 01/11/2007 13:59

this is from dd's special developmental guidelines btw
this is for 7-10 mths...

Responds to own name
Begins to respond to "no"
Distinguishes emotions by tone of voice
Responds to sound by making sounds
Uses voice to express joy and displeasure
Babbles chains of consonants

Piffle · 01/11/2007 14:04

If you are worried talk to the dr and get a referal.

Piffle · 01/11/2007 18:25

I sent Eids a msg via Facebook to point her to that thread, she is on aussie time so hopefully she can get to it later if she has time (she is always so frantic and busy GOLD star mummy she is )

PickledOnionMossysterMunch · 01/11/2007 18:29

OMG Bethoo... have a look at my post here. Slow weight gain please reassure me.

I'm not the only one. You know I'm so bloody confident normally about everything, I'm always the first one to tell other MNers on the bf threads that everything's probably okay and their baby is just meant to be small and today a f*cking HV really got to me, it wasn't my normal HV. I have actually started to get a bit panicky, thinking there might be something medically wrong with him, or maybe I have low supply, or maybe he is actually ill...

Why do we let them get to us? Bethoo I tell you what, I'll tell you that your little man is absolutely fine and dandy and you tell me the same about mine. How's that for a deal?

Hello everyone else too!

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 01/11/2007 19:13

Bethoo Hayden is gorgeous (so are you BTW!! )

spongecake · 01/11/2007 20:48

bethoo your baby looks lovely the hv has probably just done a course or is new. my hv told me that the research can be quite old as to what is normal/ average, also it depends on the sample size and location used. ask her, see what she says.. anyway my hv said that all babies grow and develop according to their inbuilt dna so not to get too het up with charts etc (just like pregnancy)

when i was in hospital when pgnt, they said there was a risk to the baby. i asked what risk, ie risk of what exactly, and they just kept repeating "its a risk" i lost it and shouted , what, a risk it will rain tuesday?" yeah, i checked out shortly afterwards.

sorry for the rant..

am about to go on fb, still find it really difficult

PickledOnionMossysterMunch · 01/11/2007 21:14

Bethoo your photos are gorgeous, your little man is lovely and his head looks just fine to me... what I want to know is where you get the time to look so damn nice!

Hello sponge yes get your ass on FB immediately!

spongecake · 01/11/2007 21:41

back from fb... no one is there- or maybe i don;t know what i am doing (more likely)

have avoided evil moment long enough.. am about to sort out & sew my black out curtains to the nursey tab tops.

am totally confused re real nappies, any advice (for chubby baby) welcome!

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 01/11/2007 21:47

Yeah Sponge

Top tip: Buy some Pampers

Sorry not helpful I know....

...how childish

eidsvold · 02/11/2007 03:32

eids has seen that thread thanks guys - just not had time to post at length but have responded. Sometimes I need to take some time to think about what I want to post etc.

bethoo tell the hv to go suck eggs.

He looks perfectly healthy. He is just ditty.

We had the same thing with dd3's check up - she is falling across the percentiles - now on the bottom. Gp said - just check in a month and we well see how she is BUT she looks healthy and happy. She is quite long though.

If hayden is not looking for extra food etc, is happy and content - lots of wet and pooey nappies then that is fine.

Dd2 went from top percentile to bottom in weight - BUT still had her huge head and looked a little off for a bit - all out of proportion.

I told the Gp that dd2 had done what dd3 is doing and when she checked she had - DD2 soon caught up and was back doing fine.

As to babbling - lots BUT we do lots of things with dd1 for her speech therapy and I guess we do the same with the other dds and so dd2 is actually ahead of the average 3yo - in terms of her verbal skills. Dd3 has said mumma and dadda but not with a real purpose in that she knew who mumma and dadda were just they were sounds.

FWIW - boys tend to lag behind girls in speech development.

hope that helps to make you feel better.

Hope all is well with everyone - just been hectic here of late and getting worse with end of year break ups for school, kindy, dh things etc.

I am off to a pamper morning tea next week however and will take the time to sit and enjoy a massage etc along with scrummy morning tea for a few hours before it is back to it.

eidsvold · 02/11/2007 03:34

spongecake - dd3 is too small at the moment for the ones I orignally made and I have just finished sewing up a few to tide us over - from a really easy pattern - will see if I can find the link.

Otherwise - we use terry squares - easy to wash and dry.

eidsvold · 02/11/2007 03:35

this is it - just enlarged the diagram and off I went.

very very easy to sew.

PickledOnionMossysterMunch · 02/11/2007 07:35

Eids, now I am more in awe of you than ever. You make your own nappies?

Wow!!! Huge respect!!

Sponge I use tots bots and they are great on Bertie. He is little so is still only in size one nappies. But size two - I have some of those as well - are quite roomy. I bought second hand though from the nappy lady classifieds (and some from ebay when they used to let you sell nappies).

Unfortunately I have just checked the nappy lady web site and they don't have anything for sale any more. You could try the "wanted" section of MN, or if you're on freecycle you could try locally?

I personally find the cotton tots bots with some nice wraps are just great. I actually cut up one of those ikea throws for liners, cut into slightly hourglass shaped pieces to put in the nappy. But you can buy liners if you want, both reusable, and also you can buy flushable liners too.

In terms of fastening, you can get two types of tots bots / other shaped cloth nappy. You can get one with a velcro fastening, or one that you fasten with something called a nappy nippa. I prefer the latter, as you can have the nappy as tight or as loose as is needed, whereas with velcro you're limited.

HTH. Or you could be like Eids and make your own....

Piffle · 02/11/2007 10:31

I dig fleece liners bog easy to make and as cheap to buy too.
Thats said I am so on and off about using cloth, my washing pile is colossal.

bethoo · 02/11/2007 12:32

Pickledmossy - i am in the same boat and you have nothing to worry about. Hayden is at the bottom of every bloody chart and i am putting it down to genetics rather than his food consumption. i was so worried about his weight gain yesterday i was throwing all sorts of finger food at him, jaffa cake in one hand cheese ritz biscuit in the other followed by choc raisin and jelly on his high chair so he had fun, more went to the dogs and all overthe chair!
as long as he is developing mentally you have nothing ot worry about, even then babies develope at different rates. i remember someone on this thread lo was crawling at 6 months! Hayden is commando crawling, wish he could not as the minute my back is turned he is shuffling towards the end of the bed or harrassing my dogs!
so do not worry and breast fed babies do not tend to pile on the weight as fast as bottle fed babies and ask yourself would you rather have a healthier slim baby or a fat one? i know what i would rather have!

bethoo · 02/11/2007 12:33

Pickledmossy - i also thought i look terrible on the pics as i look old and wrinkly. that is why i never smile (bit like Posh Spice really!) but cant look miserable when holding my little pride and joy!

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 02/11/2007 19:17

Bethoo have you got a bit of Oirish in you? You look a bit Irish with those fab cheekbones!

Have had a mad day at work - getting stuck on trains, hiding in cupboards to express, having to rush home to meet colleagues in my house. Embarassingly a colleague went to the loo in my house and the loo was blocked by a rocket sized poo, which DD had very generously left

kittycrackles · 02/11/2007 20:40

He, he Foxy. how cringe worthy!!. We had a poo event here too. One of ds1's mates did a huge one that wouldn't flush away. I tried not to get involved, somehow they managed to get rid of it
