@Magpie21 That is so weird as my DS has been the same over the last few days. He is teething though so he is a bit grouchy compared to usual.
I've noticed that when I pull the hood down he enjoys looking at the trees and its distracts him for a bit. I think it's a combination of being bored and teething pains. I also hope it's just a phase as our daily walks have been keeping me sane

Busylizzie85 · 22/09/2020 17:46

@babbafett @Magpie21 I've been wondering whether to change my pram to the next stage as ivy gets bored and frustrated not seeing anything I think! I know it's not advised this early but she is very nosey and enjoys watching what's going on!

@babbafett @Busylizzie85 I did think it must be linked to her age and newfound curiosity. The trees above are just not cutting it! 😅 I tried the baby carrier and that also went down like a lead balloon. I think my LO is a bit too small for the upright pushchair attachment but I will check.

babbafett · 22/09/2020 18:19

@Busylizzie85 I'm thinking the same but I was hoping to avoid it a bit longer. I have to walk through a busy area before I get to the park. I prefer having him tucked away in his pram. Its surprising how many people, even with covid, want to get up close to babies! It probably doesnt make any difference but in mind its safer.

Magpie21 · 22/09/2020 19:50

@babbafett Yeh, good point. They do feel nice and protected in the bassinet.

How many minutes of tummy time is everyone managing a day?

Busylizzie85 · 22/09/2020 20:47

Not as much as we should be @Magpie21 she gets really restless very quickly! I think we only manage maybe 10-15 mins a day 🙈

Missgemini · 22/09/2020 20:59

My son hates tummy time, but he does lift his body with his arms in the few mins he does it, so I'm not too worried about it.

SRS1311 · 22/09/2020 21:12

I try and do 5-10 minutes of tummy time 2 or 3 times a day...but he really doesnt like it, he cries a lot and protests about it!

Gigitree · 23/09/2020 02:13

Same as @Missgemini she does t really like it so we only do a few minutes at a time, but she can do a mini push up so I don’t think we need to work too hard at extending the amount of time just yet. I find it hard to find the window of time where she’s not too tired or too full from her milk. Typically I’ve found the best time is first thing in the morning. Also when I’m dressing her if she has something that fastens at the back I’ll pop her on her tummy for a few mins while I do the buttons and let her stay like that for as long as she’s happy, which is only a few mins 😂😂

Magpie21 · 23/09/2020 05:17

@Gigitree I know what you mean regarding finding the right moment.

We are probably managing 10-15 mins for day and she seems very strong so I am encouraged by that but I'd like to increase it a bit as I'm worried about her getting a flag head. My LO never particularly had a very rounded back of her head but I know the tummy time will help. @SRS1311 @Busylizzie85 @Missgemini

I'm really starting to feel a bit of pressure on myself to move the daytime naps away from me - My ironing pile is out of control! And more importantly she needs to sleep independently during the day. Does anyone else find themselves in this position at the moment? Il start with one nap a day and see how it goes..

Gigitree · 23/09/2020 12:12

I know what you mean @Magpie21
Thankfully she will have one longer nap during the day and I can usually successfully transfer her to her cot once she’s in a deeper sleep. But the other naps either happen on me or in her car seat/pram.
Her late afternoon nap that happens anywhere between 4-5.30pm is always the shittest nap ever, she fights it so hard getting all worked up and scratching me and needing all the rocking and shhhing in the world and then she will only nap for 25/30 mins - I can’t see how I will ever get this nap to happen independently 🤦🏼‍♀️

Magpie21 · 24/09/2020 10:44

@Gigitree oh yes..my LO has started flinging her arms around and pulling my hair in the last couple of weeks. She is not helping with the post partum hair loss!

I'm full of questions this week..I'm 7 days 'late' for my second period (Defo not pregnant). I didn't expect to ping back to a perfect cycle but I did get all the signs of a period last week and then nothing arrived. Has anyone else had their second period and was it on-time.

SRS1311 · 24/09/2020 11:06

@Magpie21 I'm still waiting for my first period, baby will be 12 weeks on Monday. Not sure if this is normal to wait this long...Hmm

Magpie21 · 24/09/2020 11:46

@SRS1311 I think it depends on whether you breastfeeding and probably other things that I don't know about!

I got my first one at 8 weeks and I had stopped breastfeeding/expressing at 4 weeks.

I guess I shouldn't be complaining about not being on a period 😅

mangoforbreakfast86 · 24/09/2020 13:42

Hi ladies, my little girl is 14 weeks old and I am considering stopping breastfeeding for a number of reasons. One of the main ones is that both of us have been suffering on and off from oral and nipple thrush since she was born. We have had thrush more than we haven’t and it makes feeding difficult, painful and stressful. I know it would make me a happier and better mother but I am feeling so guilty as I promised myself I would make it to six months. I feel I have let myself and my little girl down even though I know the most important thing is that she is fed. Has anyone transitioned from bf to ff? Is it normal for me to feel this way? I feel so teary and emotional today. xo

Magpie21 · 24/09/2020 15:18

@mangoforbreakfast86 Sorry to hear that you are feeling blue. It's completely understandable but you have done amazingly well to feed your baby from the breast for 14 weeks! That's a significant amount of time not to mention the thrush that's you have both had to contend with.

I switched completely to formula at 3-4 weeks and have no regrets whatsoever! I'm proud that my baby is fed, happy and healthy ☺️ I look back and know I did the right thing for us both. My LO is a great weight and sleeper, so I'm a big fan of the formula (we use Aptimal)!

It seems like you have thought this through and know it will be the best with for you and your baby. I'm sure that by this time next week you will feel so much better xx

Gigitree · 24/09/2020 15:39

@Magpie21 same here! I had my first period then I was due this week due my next period and deffo no chance of being pregnant but I’m still waiting for it to arrive! I guess these things just take a while to get back to a normal pattern?

@mangoforbreakfast86 as has been said you’ve done amazing breastfeeding all this time especially considering the thrush problems. I know it’s so hard emotionally, but as they always say happy mum happy baby. Your baby will have got so much goodness from you already from these first few months.
I couldn’t breastfeed as my milk never came in so I had no choice, but my baby is thriving on formula so please don’t feel guilty about making the switch, your baby will continue to thrive and flourish.

Busylizzie85 · 24/09/2020 16:13

@SRS1311 I know from breast feeding you don't get one all the time your still feeding.

@mangoforbreakfast86 I was in a similar boat with feeding, I started to switch over a week ago at 14 weeks, ivy would scream at most feeds and was generally unhappy. I have cried many times over the decision but a week on I'm feeling a lot better about it and Ivy is so much happier on it. I've tried to take it slow and it's a new thing to learn and try and get right but slowly we are getting there! I'm hoping it improves her sleep as we seem to be going through a regression with naps abs night time sleep at the moment 🙁
Don't be hard on yourself, your doing what is best for you and your LO and there happiness is everything.

OP posts:
mangoforbreakfast86 · 24/09/2020 16:19

@Busylizzie85 Esme does the same - she will scream at my boobs especially late afternoon. Can I ask how you made the transition? Did you drop a feed at a time gradually? Also how do you work out how much formula to give? It’s a whole new world for me.

Esme has also started sleep regression. For the past couple of nights she has been sleeping in cycles of 45 minutes which I think is making me even more emotional. xo

mangoforbreakfast86 · 24/09/2020 16:22

@Magpie21 @Gigitree thank you so much for your kind words. They really mean a lot to me. I adore Esme but I’m finding motherhood much harder than I anticipated xo

Gigitree · 24/09/2020 16:37

@mangoforbreakfast86 same here, I knew it would be tough but it’s so much harder than I expected. I have previously suffered with anxiety and depression based around low self esteem and I think birth & the early newborn weeks have tapped into that self doubt/ low self esteem which has made things so much harder than I anticipated.
I think we all just need to be gentle with ourselves and realise that it’s all just a phase and it won’t be this hard forever and focus on the positives, baby snuggles, their smiles/giggles, the smell of their little heads etc.

Busylizzie85 · 24/09/2020 17:08

@mangoforbreakfast86 i have been doing it slowly so starting with one feed and then a couple of days later another one and so on! I initially just gave her a few ounces and I have been upping it so now she'll take between 5-6 which I think is normal 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'll be honest I have been doing it blind as like many others have had no support other than this group chat which is a life saver! She's not in any kind of pattern with it I'm hoping that comes in time and my boobs are taking a while to sort themselves out, last night they were very painful and I was glad when she woke up to have a fed to relive the fullness. (I'm still going to feed her boob during the night for a while I think until she if she ever sleeps through)
I am trying to learn as I go along and probably been making a lot of mistakes especially with her sleep. She started so well settling herself and being great at night to now only sleeping if I settle her on me and only sleeping for max 45 mins during the day. Night time has got worse and last couple of nights she won't settle cried, gone to sleep and then woke up another couple of times crying before finally settling down. She's also got in to a habit of raising her legs up abs crashing them down in her crib at night it's so loud 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Magpie21 · 24/09/2020 18:25

@Busylizzie85 oh my goodness I could have written the same post regarding the sleep. My LO started doing the leg thing this this week too. It's so loud! She'll only settle on me now compared to before. Also she has started to need a night feed again after going weeks and weeks without one. I assume she is having a bit growth spurt so hoping it's a phase!

I second what you said about the support. I have had so much practical advice from this chat. It's nice to know we can all post and someone will reply xx

Busylizzie85 · 24/09/2020 20:44

@Magpie21 it's makes me laugh but it's sooooo annoying! It is funny how they suddenly discover they have legs and feet, she's fascinated with her toes.
She's not ever gone through the night without a feed even now she wakes up between 12-1 and 3-4 I think some of it is she just needs help re settling.

Zoey92 · 24/09/2020 21:08

Just reading & trying to catch up.
LO is currently kicking her legs as i write this, shes fast asleep!
@Magpiefeather my LO has started with a bottle again during the night too usually about 2:30am.

Shes also stirring really bad from 4.30am not completely awake but lifting the legs and throwing them down waving her arms about sometimes she'll settle back down others it goes on a while before she goes back over. Im knackered from it not going to lie!
