(Well if you only drink one night a week it would be rude not to .)

runnyhabbit · 06/10/2007 12:16

Afternoon all

Can I share a very proud secret with you all?
W is now 17lb 5oz (think I already told you that) and has solids for about 3/4 weeks. But I have only been breast feeding him from one breast since he was 2/3 months old. I am so proud of myself!

I had surgery on one breast about 10 years ago (nothing life threatening, but needed to be done iyswim) and they told me then that I might have problems b/f from that side. I am so pleased that I managed to bf from that side for as long as I did, but am even more amazed that I've been able to continue just using one side.

No-one apart from dh and my mum know about this. As dh says it none of their business and as long as W is putting weight on then everyone's happy.

Very self absorbed post, I know, but I am just so, so pleased with myself And am thinking about ending the bf in the next few wks, so wanted to write down how happy I've been about bf, in case I start feeling guilty about stopping.

PillockInThePumpkin · 06/10/2007 12:58

runny, so pleased for you, you deserve to feel proud

Wow runny! Fantastic weight as well.

PillockInThePumpkin · 06/10/2007 13:12

did you bf ds1 for this long then runny?

runnyhabbit · 06/10/2007 13:18

J wasn't bf very long labour/birth which ended in ventouse. Hospital wrapped him up so didn't get skin to skin, I was knackered and had catherter(sp?) in all night so couldn't get up to him during the night (he was born at 10.56pm) Was badly jaundiced so was hospital for 5 days after the birth.

Really wish I'd known about MN then. Think it would've been a different story. Get quite emotional thinking what if? but I take one look at my beautiful (loud) toddler and think to myself he doesn't know any different.

runnyhabbit · 06/10/2007 13:20

The mw in hospital were very blunt in their attitude to bf. I know they were short staffed, but I really think if I could've have spoken to someone one on one after J was born....who knows? Try not to think about it too much.

weepotion · 06/10/2007 13:28

runny - huge congrats to you. sopleased that you got to do this time what you werent suported to do tht elasttime. dont let what happened the last time take awy from what you have been able to acheive for both of them. bf can be an emotional rollercoaster and i understand what you mean about giving up - but you have done a fab job.
i am going to donate milk to local scbu when i give up so the ending is a positive step.

PillockInThePumpkin · 06/10/2007 13:29

it is very difficult not to think 'what if' sometimes, but I always think that if I hadn't had the rather more negative experience first time round, I probably wouldn't have put as much effort into improving it this time

OP posts:
runnyhabbit · 06/10/2007 13:44

exactly pillock I was so determined to have a better birth, and to bf this time. Truly believe that the homebirth helped in that respect. And that the team of community mw were excellent.

CaptainDippy · 06/10/2007 13:45

Well Done runny - you derserve to feel proud - absolutely bloody marvellous - soooo encouraging.

I'm knackered, been to NCT Nearly New - picked up lots of bargains mainly winter clothes for girls in the right size (totally out of season with hand-me-downs ) and a lovely farm jigsaw, hwihc girls are doing with daddy now. Off out to a Birthday Party soon - Ikea tomorrow as bed frame we tried to buy last time is finally in stock - hurrah!

Hope everyone is having good Sats - great to hear from you Elkie!

Pinions · 06/10/2007 13:52

Hooray Runny!!

You will be able to join the rest of us a Xmas tipple (or two) this year, can't believe Xmas is just around the corner, it only seemed like minutes ago we were all discussing which types of cheese we could eat . Can you believe that between us alone we have brought around 40 new people into the world .

Anyway, off to do things in the "real" world, just wanted to say hi!

PillockInThePumpkin · 06/10/2007 13:56

"hwihc" dippy, have you been on the wine this morning to make up for missing out last night?

oooggs · 06/10/2007 14:20

hi all nightmare last night as dts woke Jack screamed for an hour so ended up settling Erin in her cot and putting Jack in the pushchair in the garage and rocking him to sleep. It worked and dh put him in the cot when he got home.

Erin has asked to go to sleep in cot after lunch and I know Jack is tired but he really fights it so I put him in James' old powertrack (which has just been cleaned ready to sell) and rocked him in the garden and he is still there asleep (it is very warm down here today!!!) Claire Verity eat your heart out.

So no longer selling single pushchair keeping it for Jack and daytime sleeping. I can't do cc with him as he shares a room with Erin and she is suffering along with everyone else.

Sorry self absorbed, hope everyone ok

Pinions · 06/10/2007 15:27

......if anyones around and can help me out of my dilemna, still trying to choose a lightweight stroller, please have a look at the ones I am trying to compare and any experience of ones (obaby atlas??) that you definitely wouldn't buy.

I am the most indecisive person ever.

Hi all

Runny - That's fantastic well done you for doing that you deserve to be really proud of yourself

Sorry self absorbed post coming up.

I took Izzy to be weighed yesterday she has only put on 9oz in a month, she is 6 months old now and weighs 13lb 4oz. She's dropped from about the 25th centile to about the 2nd centile. Was made to speak to the nursery nurse, who said she must now have 3 meals a day...no problem I'd been doing two, but was putting off breakfast because of trying to fit it in with getting J to preschool. To be honest she is not that interested in solids, doesn't really open her mouth so it's a bit of a battle. Sorry off on a tangent. Then she said that I should add melted butter and cream to her meals to increase her calorie intake I've never heard of that before and am not happy about doing it. What do you all think?

Not really sure what to do, she is a happy, sleeps really well at night and is happy during the day produces wet/dirty nappies etc.

Sorry I'm going on it's playing on my mind a bit. DH says I should ignore them and not go back. I'm just a bit worried as I am short and spend 10 years or so going to the 'growth clinic' twice a year just to be told...you're not heavy enough/tall enough etc...it made no difference going except to stress me and my parents out and I'm not sure I really want to go down that route with Izzy.

Advice please. Sorry to go on and on.

busywithIzzy · 06/10/2007 15:42

Sorry Pinions I'm awful at making decisions as well and I haven't used any of those pushchairs so can't advise.

Pinions · 06/10/2007 15:58

Not overly qualified but what I would say would be, as a precaution just to try and feed her at the moment as much as you can, and also start to give tiny (fingernail size) pieces of bread in between meals to fill out,(and also drinks from a beaker, very weak squash) cos that is what we have had to start doing. Not only that but you can spend about what seems like an hour giving a meal at the moment - don't ask! T is never full it doesn't seem to matter how much food he has think he's having a major growth spurt.

I wouldn't overly worry but at the same time for piece of mind if it were me would feed, feed, feed. Speaking off the top of my head please hope I haven't offended? Someone else will come along shortly anyway!!

Right ladies really off now cos already have spent too much time on mn what a slippery slope byeeee......

Someone have a few online drinks for me tonight .

Pinions · 06/10/2007 16:00

And no to butter and cream.

Eddas · 06/10/2007 16:12

busywithIzzy · 06/10/2007 16:30

Thanks Pinions No offense taken.

Eddas sounds Ffab

busywithIzzy · 06/10/2007 16:31

That's double 'F' fab by the way

VamPesha · 06/10/2007 16:33

Dont get the o atlas thingamy bob 0- its really heavy, difficult to steer and totally crap!

OTOH - if anyone wants to by a 2nd hand one from me...

I have a maclaren um something now that i love, a cheaper one than you're lookinbg at there, will have a look in abit.

BWI - I think its quite common for babies to drop down the centiles abit when they first go onto solids. Its not actually much of a drop from where she was before so I wouldn't have thought anything to worry about. If you were always on the small side then makes sense she will be too And personally I would have thought moe milk is the best way of getting more calories into her rather than introducing an extra meal at this stage. Also Olihan suggested a few things on my blw thread - 'Cereal soaked in cream, real butter on toast, slices of avacado or banana, rich creamy sauces on pasta' and even if you're not blw she's prob still old enough for finger foods and having these foods whizzed/mashed.
TBH I kinda wish I'd not been to baby clinic and had him weighed, its just stressed me out and put so much pressure on me when actually my boy still seems completely fine and soooooo happy all the time!

Only other thing thats stuck in my head from last night is 'banana bibs' ! We had one of them earlier! We also have bandana bibs!

Oh CD - I had an email back from grass roots that was sitting in my spam box for a few days before i noticed it

VamPesha · 06/10/2007 16:44

Sorry x posted with pinions (blardy children always interfering ) I think if she's really hungry then what pinions said sounds great but if she's not soo much then you need to find ways of getting as much cals as poss into her in what little she is having iyswim? Although i dont think there's that much need to push it as she's only dropped one line (?) and as i said i think thats quite common and should soon pick up naturally as she adjusts.

I would alsdo just say everything I've been reading says if you're bfing they dont need other drinks as the fore milk is all they need. If you're worried about her weight then I would avoid giving other drinks as she may fill up on these with very little calories. But cant remember if you're also giving formula, if you are then she would need some juice/water too.

And have been interrupted by dc again so no doubt will have x posted again!
