My darling boy's birthday today

We gave him a Fisher Price Little People garage as his main present, which he loves, as well as loads of Bob the Builder trucks and Thomas the tank engine bits.

He's currently having a nap, then we're having a little birthday tea later.

A good day SM x

Starting on the TWW now. Hey ho...

I have been trying Johnny back on dairy products this week. I was giving him the odd thing now and again over the last few months will no ill effects, but it is a build up that causes problems for him. I tried giving him some dairy every day this week and it seems like he is still intolerant, but not as sensitive as he was when I tried him last Feb. The poor wee mite pooed his pants when we were out. He was really upset. Back to goats/soya/rice products instead for him.

Hope everyone is well.

ponto · 01/02/2009 21:31

Hi Elf, good to see you, how are things?

MB, poor Johnny, it must be hard work avoiding dairy, though I suppose you're used to it by now. Is he allergic to eggs too? He did really well at the dentist's, Alice has been with me several times but is yet to open her mouth!

Yokefleet, I hope the rest of 2009 improves after the awful start! Bryony is teething too, and we are having fun and games with weaning. She started out really well, but now only wants to eat fruit and yogurt, just like Alice did. I may have to search on the old thread to find out how we solved it - finger foods I think.

mawbroon · 03/02/2009 14:02

Yes, allergic to eggs as well. He does seem to be outgrowing that one though, but we are still on complete elimination.

Ah well, today we both have temperatures and Johnny has spent the last hour and a half asleep. I have had to wake him because we are going out to school to get mindee. Even though he is ill, this will still mean that he won't go to sleep at 7pm. Oh well, never mind.

DontlookatmeImshy · 06/02/2009 19:03

YF - Wow 2 teeth already for Daniel. Ds2 only has 2 on the bottom and onr coming through on top but it's not one of the front ones. It's one to the side although we'd have a rough couple of weeks so i think there may be some more very soon. Oh the joys of teething eh?

MB - hope you and Johnny are feeling a bit better. Ds1 has been ill today, temperature and shivers and doing nothing except sitting on the settee having cuddles. Ds2 has had to fend for himself this afternoon. Will keep fingers crossed for you on the TWW.

Ds1 is still enjoying pre-school. He does the same as Johnny MB. He's quite happy to leave us when we get there although he must give me and ds2 a kiss goodbye or he gets upset, but when we pick him up he runs over with a big smile, although he did go through a phase where he wouldn't come over to me and wanted to stay for the afternoon session and i had to drag/carry him out

Ds2 is growing well at last. He's still in 6-9month old clothes despite being 1 next Thursday!! Eek. When did that creep up on us?
He's allergic to eggs too and is having proper allergy testing at the hospital on the 16th. He's busy cruising round the furniture and keeping me busy but it's all good fun.

Dh keeps talking about no.3.

mawbroon · 10/02/2009 23:20

Noooooooooo, it can't be a year DLAMIS, no way!!! Sorry to hear your ds2 is allergic to eggs as well, that's a bit of a pain for you, although you are probably well used to it and will take it all in your stride.

Is anyone else's LO going through the "black is white" stage? If we go upstairs on the bus, Johnny wants to sit downstairs. If we go in the front door, he wants to go in the back door. If I say we are doing X, then he wants to do Y. If a no37 bus comes, he cries because he wanted it to be a no7. And so on, and so on. I am assuming that it is a phase and this too will pass.

That's about it really. I am going to the doc on Friday because I still don't feel great. I am beginning to wonder if it's glandular fever rearing it's head again because I only get the sore throat/temp thing when I am really tired (that'll be most evenings then!). But it was 1997 that I had glandular fever, so not sure if it can lurk that long in the system.

We had a lovely weekend in York. We got a cheap deal on the train and stayed Saturday night. We went to the train museum which Johnny absolutely loved, and had a wander about York. We popped into York Minster and there was a choir singing and the organ playing. Wow, what a sound! Johnny said he liked it too. We were all asleep by 8,30pm at the hotel which i think was the part of the weekend which I enjoyed most!!

No joy on the TWW btw, AF came today. Oh well, at least my LP seems a tiny bit longer since I started on the progesterone cream.

Hope you are all well and surviving this freezing weather.

Yokefleet · 12/02/2009 21:33

MB, hoping for a positive result next time. Yes Thomas is going through a stroppy phase too but then again he always does after he has been poorly for some reason. Funny that you went to York and the musuem as we went 24th Jan for a family wedding in York so went to the museum in the morning, Thomas loved it, his face lit up and he couldn't believe just how big they were. Hope you are feeling better soon, I had glandular fever as a teenager and remember just how it knocked me out so I hope its not that recurring for you.

DLAMIS -YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING.... 1 YR OLD WERE DID THAT GO!!!! Mind you Daniel is now 6 months old and it has flown too. He is teething and got a nasty cold (wheezing is really bad) Thomas has had a cold again which has put him in a really bad mood but at least he hasn't been as poorly as he was at New Year.
Not much else happening here really, I have just done my 6th exercise class of the week (and am now knackered!! lol) Have been going to the Rosemary Conley slimming/exercise class since Oct07 been everyweek once a week but my weight has stayed the same now for the last 4 weeks so I decided to try really hard this week with extra exercise to try and get it going down again (fingers crossed for Wed's weigh in!! will be gutted if I don't lose again!!)

Better go as we bought the full set of "The West wing" last week and are quickly working our way through them!

DontlookatmeImshy · 13/02/2009 17:48

Mb- The egg thing isn't really a problem as i give ds's the same now anyway so i don't really even have to think about it, (eggs are banned from the house anyway after ds2's second skin exposure). We think ds1 might have or be growing out of it though. He ate some cake for the first time last weekend and had no reaction at all.
Sounds like a lovely weekend. I remember going to the train museum when i was little. We really should take ds1, he loves trains.
We have the "black is white" thing going on too. Must be their age. Just chant the mumsnet mantra "It's just a phase"
Hoep you're feeling better today.

YF - 6 months! I thought he was further behind ds2 than that. Just goes to show how fast it goes 2nd time round.
It's a nightmare when they teeth and have a cold together.

Ds2 seems to be over the worst of his latest teething session although he has started biting when I'm feeding him. Hopefully it'll just pass, i remember ds1 doing it. Was quite sad at toddler group last week when one mum said she was going to give up bf'ing cos lo's (5months) teeth were coming and she was starting to bite. Tried to encourage her by telling her it would pass but she didn't seem convinced.

Chicken pox is going round pre-school at the moment so we may have that to deal with soon as well. Ho-hum

mawbroon · 14/02/2009 22:23

That's good news about ds1 DLAMIS. Johnny's last skin test was just on the borderline for trying the egg challenge, so the consultant said just to leave it for now which was fine with me. I must say that I hardly give it a thought and he's never had an accidental exposure, so it's pretty much second nature for me now. Johnny is very good too, at parties etc, he won't eat anything until he has checked with me first.

We have gone through a couple of phases recently where I think Johnny is cutting down on bf. Sometimes he only wants one side and refuses the other one if I ask him. It seems that milk is slipping down his priorities. It's only first by a little bit now, instead of first by a mile.

He seems to have taken a big growth spurt recently and I realised that all his socks are way too small! We bought some Thomas socks in Sainsbury's when we were shopping and he got ridiculously excited about them so that will be fun tomorrow when he gets to wear them.

Any mechanically minded boys out there? Johnny has taken to telling everyone how the pistons in an engine work and demonstrated with his hands. He explains the difference between diesel and petrol engines to anyone who will listen!!

mawbroon · 24/02/2009 20:36

Anyone else been called in for booster injections yet? We are going tomorrow and I bet we have to fanny about going to the hospital again for the MMR one because of Johnny's egg allergy. [big waste of time]

We are having visitors in a couple of weeks time, including Johnny's cousin from the US who he has never met. He is ridiculously excited about her coming. She is 5 and probably doesn't like boys!! I hope he is not crushed.

I have the feeling that this summer will be one of bumps, scrapes and bruises. Johnny was always mega cautious, but now he is hanging about with my 6yo mindee, he is turning into a right wee boy. He will be coming in muddy from head to toe with ripped breeks soon I think!

ponto · 24/02/2009 21:22

MB, Johnny sounds like he is growing up fast! Also sounds like he is going to be a mathematician with his love of numbers. Alice can count up to 10, but then says '11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 17, twenteen'. Bless!

We are very much in an arts and crafts phase at the moment. Alice is always wanting to draw and glue things, which keeps her quiet but is very messy! I feel a bit mean as she is always asking to do painting but I only get the paints out about once a month as I can't bear the tidying up afterwards (usually she paints her arms up to the elbows as soon as I look the other way!)

mawbroon · 24/02/2009 21:32

Oh I don't envy you the messy stuff ponto!

I got the craft stuff out the other week when I was minding. Mindee wanted to paint (he always makes a big mess!!) but Johnny asked for the colouring pencils becuase painting is too messy!! He doesn't like even a drop of water landing on him. Princess and the pea springs to mind....

Yokefleet · 26/02/2009 14:39

hello all!

Thomas sounds like Alice with the counting! he also misses 13 & 15 out. Hes not mechanically minded like Johnny though but he just loves the outdoors, tbh we hardly ever do anything arty as these days we are rarely at home during the day with play dates, play group and going to the park. (at least the house stays tidy a bit longer as we aren't at home!! lol)

Re booster jabs, no not heard anything here yet.
Thomas isn't starting nursery til after Easter but he still isn't doing great with wiping his bum after a #2 (sorry tmi!) just hoping that he is sorted in time.

Better go as Daniel is after Thomas' hair again!

mawbroon · 26/02/2009 23:32

Hooray, got the MMR at the docs with no hassle. And, of course, there were no ill effects....

Any of the children crying at the tiniest things just now? Johnny was in the backpack eating an apple the other day. He had been chomping on it for about half an hour and he dropped it. He became inconsolable over it. Also, just before that, he had wanted an old style no8 bus to come and a brand new one came, and he was devastated. He was really really upset by it! Wee soul. I don't know what that is all about!

Interestingly, a few weeks ago, he would have been wailing for milk when he was this upset. Yesterday, he was crying and asking for a cuddle and to read a book!! I don't really remember the last time he fed during the day, but is still feeding morning/night/during the night. It's had a good effect on my cycle though, I ovulated on day 12 which is the earliest ever since I started charting 20 months ago! fingers crossed

Yokefleet · 28/02/2009 21:46

fingers crossed for you soon MB. Thomas is also crying at the slightest thing quite often if he gets a green straw with his drink when he would like a blue one, it drives me up the wall, all I seem to do these days is carry around a crying teething baby or a crying whinging 3 yr old! lol

mawbroon · 28/02/2009 23:17

Yes YF, the straw thing. That is exactly the kind of thing that he would be inconsolable about just now. Glad to hear it's not just Johnny!!

Johnny is very interested in Thomas at the moment (he likes to look at the leaflet that came with his trains which has all the pics on it). He was pretending to be a baby, so I asked him what baby's name was. He said "Neville" who is currently a fave from Thomas. So, I had to call him Neville all afternoon. I bet if Johnny ever gets a brother, he will ask me to call him Neville!

DontlookatmeImshy · 05/03/2009 15:57

Fingers crossed for you this month MB

Not heard anything about Boosters here yet. Ds2 has an appt at hospital soon for allergy testing. I turned up last month only to discover I'd gone a month early!. Got the day and date right, just the wrong month If i have to take him in for his 1st mmr then i'll try and get them both in at the same time. Otherwise i think i'll just have ds1 done at the doctors too.

As for the crying thing, thank goodness ds1 isn't the only one. I was beginning to think i had gone horribly wrong with this parenting lark but it sounds like it's just another phase. The worst one was in sainsburys. Ds1 was holding my shopping list. Suddenly he let out this huge screaming wail and starting wailing in this high pitched voice and pointing at one of the cleaners sweeping up. He was frantic but i couldn't understand a word he was saying. All i could think of was he'd trapped his fingers in the trolley or something. When i finally managed to calm him down he was still pointing at the cleaner (who was now at the other end of the aisle) and saying 'mummys list'. Finally worked out he'd dropped my shopping list and the cleaner had swept it up. So i had to chase this cleaner down the aisle and round the corner and ask for my list back before ds1 could be consoled!

Ds2 had a stinking cold. Took him to the docs for discharge coming out of his ear. It looked like snot but i though it can't be - not coming out of his ear?, but the doc said he had a perforated ear drum so everything coming out of his nose was also coming out of his ear too! Yuk. No wonder the poor little fellas had a rough few days/nights. Put him AB's just in case there's any infection and he seems to be better now, thankfully.

Anyone else's making up silly words. We finally got ds1 talking and now he's coming out with gibberish. I try and ignore it but dh joins in and they sound like a couple of Klingons (and ds1 hasn't even seen Star Trek!) Oh well as the MN mantra goes "IT's just a phase, It's just a phase"

mawbroon · 24/03/2009 22:30

Anyone still lurking? I haven't been on much as I have been ridiculously busy these last couple of months, but it seems to be settling down now for the meantime.

Johnny is doing great. Asking lots of interesting questions, really getting to grips with some triky (when you're 3) concepts.

We had a houseful of visitors last week for 8 nights, including his 5yo cousin from America. Luckily they got on well! This week, he is saying stuff like "in America, they call trousers pants" which is quite cute really.

We measured him on the kitchen wall (we have lots of lines and it's amazing how much he has grown since we moved to this house almost 2 years ago!. The latest measurement shows about 1cm growth in the last month or so. Doesn't sound much, but he seems to be growing constantly!

Some brilliant news on the dairy front! He seems to be able to handle it again. I haven't tried huge amounts, but he has been able to eat cheese and yogurt with no ill effects. HOORAY. Fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Hope you are all well.

ponto · 27/03/2009 21:52

I am still checking in from time to time. Great news about the dairy MB

I'm not noticing Alice growing so much as she usually wears dresses, whereas dd1 mostly wears trousers and they're all at half mast again - will have to switch to shorts for the summer.

DLAMIS, hope everyone is well again in your house.

Alice had her MMR and pneumovac boosters last week, I felt very mean taking her but she didn't cry for long and still has her sticker on her coat. She then had a terrible sickness and diarrhoea bug over the weekend, so couldn't come out for mother's day lunch with my parents - dh volunteered to be on mopping up duty for the day!

mawbroon · 01/04/2009 22:28

spoke a bit too soon about the dairy.

He is farting for Scotland and his poos are very light coloured, long and thin compared to the logs he was doing before. Hmm, will have to reconsider....

After the Easter hols, Johnny will be going three sessions a week to nursery. I was so worried when he started that he would just hide in a corner ignoring everyone, but he seems to have fitted right in and loves it which is great.

The trousers have been given the heave ho. I gave up long ago trying to get him to wear anything other than trackie bottoms and t shirts because he would have hysterics if I tried to get him to wear anything that wasn't soft, or anything with a collar. Now he says "I don't want to wear trousers, I don't like the legs" so he is getting to wear shorts now that it's not so cold. Right enough, he would always take his trousers off as soon as we got home and go about in his pants, so perhaps shorts are an improvement.

Hope everyone is well. Elf, have you changed your name to NotMyELFtoday or is that someone else?

mawbroon · 01/04/2009 22:28

Was seriously thinking of asking Johnny what he thought about kilts. How cute would that be?

NotmyELFtoday · 05/04/2009 22:48

hi all.
I did change my name. Was trying something out for a bit, and quite like it
I need to catch up properly, but have worked like a maniac for the past few weeks as its year end - am shattered! Evelyn is also unwell, got a snotty nose and cough. Chicken pox is doing the rounds here as well, not sure if she has them, it will be the 4th time she's been "exposed" to them.

mawbroon · 09/04/2009 14:43

Hi Elf, nice to see you on here.

Johnny has slapped cheek since saturday. I thought he was much better, but today he was behaving like a demon, so I took him onto the couch for milk and a cuddle where he promptly fell asleep on top of me for 2.5hrs!!! He is now playing quietly on his own, so I reckon he was really needing it. Doesn't do me any harm to nap on the couch either!

My sister is due her baby any day now. Very exciting. She lives close by so I will be around if she needs me.

ponto · 15/04/2009 22:08

Hope you all had a good Easter. We had a fun Easter egg hunt in the garden, the house is still full of chocolate. Alice has eaten half a Lindt chocolate bunny today, but it didn't seem to put her off her meals. She has an incredible appetite at the moment, she keeps asking for food about every hour! I have given up worrying about the girls' chocolate consumption for the week, I will just be glad when it's all gone and not sitting around to tempt me!

Poor Johnny with his slapped cheeks MB. Hope he feels better now.

Are any of you on Facebook? My postnatal thread for dd3 has a facebook group and it's nice to be able to look at each other's photos - a bit odd not having the anonymity of MN though.

DontlookatmeImshy · 16/04/2009 14:02

Hope Johnny's feeling better soon.

WE've had a nice easter. We bought the ds's a v. small egg each and then then got spoilt rotten by the lovely ladies at church. Fortunately ds1 is like me and can 'take it or leave it' so no chocolate gorging here and they should last a while .

We went out yesterday and ds saw one of those big lawn movers for cutting large public areas of grass-the ones that people sit on a drive.
Anyway he said we should get one and dh said something about getting one for mummy and ds said.

"No ladies not allowed to do it, only mans can go on that"

Me and dh were like at out male chauvenist toddler

We assume it's because he's only ever see man on them

mawbroon · 16/04/2009 22:23

Johnny is recovered fully, thanks. but now I have it. It is terrible. I have had a raging fever since Monday and have a banging headache and sore throat.

The doc says I will be ill for a few more days and might be knackered for up to five weeks!

It always seems that we get ill in the holidays. I had one mindee for the school holidays, but only for about 10 hours a week, so it was almost like a holiday for us. I was going to do all sorts of lovely things with Johnny, but hey ho, can't be helped.

Johnny has spent the last three days with Granny. We have never spent so much time apart. He seems to be coping with it ok and I'm not so worried as I would have been a few months ago.

There's always something, eh?

I'm on facebook btw
