My darling boy's birthday today

We gave him a Fisher Price Little People garage as his main present, which he loves, as well as loads of Bob the Builder trucks and Thomas the tank engine bits.

He's currently having a nap, then we're having a little birthday tea later.

A good day SM x

DH and I have been considering whether or not to have another child. We'd always planned two, but tbh at the moment I cannot imagine having another. I was broody a while ago and DH was keen but then we changed our minds, wanting Evelyn to be older, but I change my mind quite frequently!

DontlookatmeImshy · 16/02/2008 23:02

Hello all,

Well I am home but not quite how I wanted to be. Kept hoping to be released but kept having small bleeds first thing in the morning. On Sat and Sun night I also had alot of pain in the night and assumed I was constipated (since I hadn't been for a while ). They gave me painkillers and some stuff to help me sleep and that eased it.

On Monday the pains started mid afternoon and gradually got worse, we were joking with the midwivws about needing an enema if I didn't go soon and they even showed me a staff toilet I could use where I wouldn't get disturbed by other people tryng to get in to use the loo/shower all the time. By about 9.00pm I was fed up of sitting on the loo and dh helped me waddle back to the bed. I had to stop a couple of times cos of the pain and we joked about if anyone saw us they would just think i was in labour. We saw one of the midwives again and I asked if I could have an enema So they got me one and still nothing happened!!!.

Half an hour later I had had enough and they sent for one of the doctors. She asked me a few questions and felt my stomach when the pain got bad and said "Actually I think you might be having your baby love" . They got me back to the bed to check me over and then she said "We need to get you down to delivery, you're 8cm dilated!!!!!"

Anyway after another 2 hours and copious amounts of gas and air (blimey that was good stuff lol, I was laughing my head off and away with the fairies) ds2 was born at 35w+2 just after midnight on Tuesday morning weighing 5lb10. Next morning the midwives kept coming in to see me and saying things like "Blimey, that was some constipation!"

Ds2 is in SCBU . He's doing really well, it's just hard having to leave him every night and poor ds1 isn't getting enough of mummy and daddy's time either. We don't know when he'll be out but are quietly hoping it night be some time this coming week.

Anyway thats it for now. Will catch up on all your news as soon as I can.

Take care all.

mawbroon · 16/02/2008 23:14

Wow!! Congratulations DLAMIS . How lovely, another ds

5lbs 10 is really quite a respectable weight isn't it. I hope you get to bring him home soon. I can't begin to understand how hard it must be to have to leave him at the hospital.

Congratulations again, delighted for you.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 17/02/2008 09:16

WOW DLAMIS
Sorry to hear you new DS is in SCBU, but really glad to hear he is doing well. The weight is v good for the time (lots of people I know seem to have had 5lbs ish babies at full term, Evelyn was just a heifer)

Keep us posted when you can, best wishes and huge congratulations

mawbroon · 17/02/2008 15:09

Another lovely day here today.

We went to the beach and Johnny had a lovely time. He took home some shells and on the way home was clutching the little scallop shell saying "Johnny love this shell, so shiny" How sweet

Then we had lunch here where there is a little soft play for the kids. I think next time we have any kind of family outing, we will go there, it was really nice.

I have my first mindee since restarting tomorrow. I am hoping to get some more business soon, but I think the nature of doing it as temporary/emergency cover means that it will take a while to get going.

Yokefleet · 18/02/2008 09:05

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO DLAMIS AND FAMILY. I hope your little one is back home with you soon xxxxx

MB - Hope all goes well with your new mindee today and how lovely it must be to be getting sentences from your lo! MInd you the single words have taken so long to start from Thomas that I am very happy with every new word we do get!! He is getting much better with them now and is copying more words off us now too.

SM - I hope that you get the ok from the Drs soon.

Ponto - Glad to hear the second scan went well and I think its lovely to have a suprise waiting for you at the end of the labour! We won't be finding out again this time.

Myjobismum - Congratulations on the pg, I am another one on her pg (16 weeks) How are you feeling? The sickness is starting to slow for me now thankfully though I have been much worse this time round!

We had a lovely week last week, my niece was on half term so we spent lots of time out away from home which was really nice. The weather has been fab apart from Friday but even Friday was dry which is an improvement!
My niece is back to school today but I think we are going to go and pick her up to have lunch with her today as Thomas had got used to playing with her everyday again!

Yokefleet · 19/02/2008 14:24

Hope everyone is well, I am just back from the midwifes for the 16week check, all is well and we heard the babies heartbeat which was nice. We now have the scan at 20 weeks and don't see the MW again until 28 weeks I was suprised that it was that long but anyway never mind!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 19/02/2008 18:47

Just a quick post to say I have updated my profile with new pics of Evelyn if you fancy a looksie

Will post later with her two accidents already this week later.

stinkymalinki · 19/02/2008 20:19

Congratulations DLAMIS I hope your new DS is doing well, and is home with you all soon.

We're having a rough time of it again at the mo (there's a thread in the Heath section if anyones interested). DH has had several recurrent chest infections since last September, finally had a chest x-ray last week, and rather than it being lung-related, it actually showed an enlarged heart and LVH, the beginnings of heart failure. He's only 40 and theres no previous family history! we both seem to be doomed with our health!!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 19/02/2008 21:13

OMG re your DH - will go check your thread, I'll have nowt useful to add but ((hugs))

Yokefleet · 20/02/2008 08:36

Oh god Sm sorry to hear that, I will go look for the thread now too. I don't know what to say hun

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 20/02/2008 12:32

Evelyn's accidents this week:

Monday, walking with the childminder holding onto the buggy, chatting to CM when she turned away and walked straight into the metal tail gate of a lorry half parked on the pavement. Poor CM could see it going to happen but not enough time to yank her back. Big bruise on her cheek, bright blue at the moment.

Tuesday, walking home with me, on our road and I stupidly let her slip out of my hand to walk a few steps away, she turns and is singing "you cant catch me, ner na ner na ner na!" and as she turns away, she trips. Indeed, she is right, I cant catch has and she topples to the floor face first. Have never seen so much blood, and she now has the fattest lip in the world.

Terrible mother, me

Yokefleet · 20/02/2008 18:27

oh Elf, Evie has had a bad week, accidents happen I just hope that the week goes better from today!

MB - How is it going with the new mindee?

SM- How did your oh get on at the drs today?

mawbroon · 20/02/2008 20:54

New mindee went well YF, thanks. He was only booked for 2 half days, so will wait and see if his Mum gets back to me for more!

Stinky - I posted on your other thread, but wanted to say that I am sorry to hear about your dh. It must be terribly worrying for you both.

Elf - poor wee Evie. For it all to happen at one time is just bad luck. I hope the swelling goes down soon.

Johnny has found his independence all of a sudden. He has been charging about all over the place and doesn't seem scared any more of climbing up the front doorstep, or up and down the chute etc. He will probably turn into a complete tearaway now

We went for haircuts on Monday. I have hacked some bits off Johnny's hair, but it was time to get it done properly. The hairdresser said he was the first toddler she'd ever done who had sat on the chair on their own and didn't make a fuss and let her get the cut done quickly. He looks soooo grown up now. The hair was still a bit babyish I suppose, but my baby has long gone and been replace with a big boy!!

stinkymalinki · 20/02/2008 21:38

Thank you for all your kind words. DH is being sent for an urgent ECHO (basically an ultrasound of his heart), a load of blood tests, and has been referred to a cardiologist. Other than that, all we do is wait...

Re hair cuts- you're a braver woman than me Mawbroon! i cut Joey's hair myself with the electric clipper as he wriggles far too much for anyone to go anywhere near him with scissors

OP posts:
mawbroon · 21/02/2008 21:40

Any news stinky?

stinkymalinki · 22/02/2008 20:11

Not yet, unfortunately. He's had his blood test but no results as yet, although one of the cardiology doctors i work with thinks these tests are just a formality and that the GP is stalling! DH seems to be dealing with it all ok - i think he's just relieved to finally have a diagnosis!

OP posts:
DontlookatmeImshy · 23/02/2008 16:22

Finally got chance to catch up on the thread! We got home Tuesday afternoon, big relief but a bit scary at the same time. Ds2 is doing well and has put on 5oz. Ds1 seems to quite like him - keeps stroking his head and kissing him and wanting to hold him. Unfortunately he is still unsettled from the chaos of the last few weeks and is awake roaming around the landing at silly hours of the morning and refusing to go back to sleep.

Stinky - So sorry to hear about your dh Hope you get some kind of definate news soon.

MB - rofl at your ds talking about hydraulic excavators. Is he sleeping through yet? I know what you mean about feeling when dh's complain about being tired. They really haven't got a clue have they?

Ponto - can't remember whether i've already conratulated you yet so congrats anyway How old are your first two?

Myjobismum - Congrats to you too

YF - I was suprised not to see the midwife for so long after the scan too. Where we are you are supposed to alternate between seeing the doctor and the midwife, - not sure thats any good for continuity of care though!

Elf - poor Evie. Hope the bruising/swelling goes down soon.

mawbroon · 23/02/2008 20:31

Glad to hear that you are all home now DLAMIS.

We are experimenting with dropping naps this week. I just reached the end of my tether with sleepless nights. So far, we have seen a really good improvement at nights. He is sleeping a lot longer before waking. Last night was 7pm until 5.30am which was a killer, but is still way better than before, but I am confident that he will go longer still. If however he starts night waking again then we will go back to napping because by tea time, he is just a disaster and is totally exhausted. It makes the days much longer now though and we don't have to rush home for lunch/nap so we have been out and about much more which has been good fun.

I met with some other MNetters last week. FAQ was up in Edinburgh for the week, so I met with her and two others during the day with dcs and then five of us went out last night for drinks. We had a fab time - I really enjoyed myself. If anyone is ever coming to Edinburgh then give me a shout!!

mawbroon · 25/02/2008 10:42

Aaaaargh, dropping naps has done wonders for the nights, but it's 10.45 am and I have Johnny asleep on my knee. He obviously still needs some nap, but I'm damned if I can figure out what! I have had 4 full nights sleep this week though.......

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 25/02/2008 13:51

Saturady Evelyn slept 8 until 9.30, she woke up saying she was still tired. She napped from 1:30 - 4:00, then slept 8:00 - 8:00
Not sure what is wrong, suspect she may be coming down with something, but she is enjoying her lot of sleep.

mawbroon · 25/02/2008 18:02

Oh dear, it does sound a bit like that Elf... I hope it's nothing serious.

Johnny has been pestering for milk all day and it's the end of the world when I have refused. We went out to the museum and got home just after 3pm. He sat on my knee having milk for ages and then passed out with exhaustion. I still think he needs to nap tbh. I will maybe try letting him nap every 2 or 3 days and see how we go. I have very very quickly got used to him sleeping through!!

stinkymalinki · 25/02/2008 19:57

Mawbroon - we had the same issues with Joey and napping. He now only has a nap 3-4 times a week (usually every other day or so, as and when he gets really tired), which works much better for him (and us)

DH got his appointment through for his ECHO, but i need to speak to one of the doctors at work about it, as its for 3 weeks time which doesn't exactly sound 'fast-tracked' or urgent to me! At least he's now in the system, i suppose.

OP posts:
mawbroon · 25/02/2008 20:25

I think every other day might be the way to go. He's gone a whole week now with only cat naps and it's obvious that he is absolutely knackered.

Agree that 3 weeks doens't sound terribly urgent, does it stinky?!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 27/02/2008 12:34

Interesting night last night with the earthquake! Luckily Evelyn was in bed with us, she'd woken at 12:30 and come into our bed, so she slept through, which I dont think she would have done in her own bed (thin wood, thin mattress, not like my wrought iron bed and heavy thick mattress!)

I posted this on another thread, but my thought process was so bad last night as I really didn't believe it could be an earthquake, so I thought this:

  1. It cant be an earth quake, must be an air crash near my house
  2. Hmmm, no plane wreckage strewn across the street, must be a burglar trying to get in using extreme force
  3. Oh, quick scan of house shows no burglar... maybe it is an alien ship and attemped abduction...
  4. Maybe I should check Mumsnet?
